“Doing my research” (watching the Netflix documentary The Toys that Made Us), I was surprised that He-Man was the best-selling toy, but only for a brief few years, before falling off a cliff into obscurity. Mattel’s attempts to bring it back over the years have been met by a collective shrug. It is also worth mentioning that the brilliant Filmation cartoon was a marketing effort to sell toys and merchandise. Unlike the Turtles, which was a weird, dark comic book that was tweaked to turn it into a hit, He-Man was a product of marketing efforts.

I think Gerard Butler is one of the finest action stars of our generation. The new live-action Masters of the Universe movie from Amazon MGM Studios recently wrapped principal photography, with several main and supporting cast members sharing behind-the-scenes photos featuring teasing glimpses of their respective costumes.

This latest take on the classic animated series/toy line features a sprawling cast and a lot of characters (some have yet to be announced), and it sounds like we may also get an appearance from the original live-action He-Man, Dolph Lundgren.

Speculation that Lundgren, who played Eternia's muscle-bound protector in the much-maligned 1987 movie, might be set to make a cameo in the reboot first began when the actor shared some social media posts mentioning a "secret" project he was working on in London early on during production, and the '80s action star was asked about the rumors during an interview with Mensjournal.com.

Production on the new “Masters of the Universe” movie has wrapped, and to mark the occasion, star Nicholas Galitzine (“The Idea of You”) offered up a first look at him in costume as He-Man, the most powerful man in the universe, who must battle the evil Skeletor in this adaptation of the Mattel toy franchise.

Travis Knight, the CEO of Laika and director of the animated “Kubo and the Two Strings” and 2018’s “Transformers” spinoff “Bumblebee,” directed the new “Masters of the Universe” movie from a screenplay by Chris Butler.

“Well, that’s a wrap on ‘Masters of the Universe.’ It has been an honour shouldering the responsibility of playing Adam and He Man,” Galitzine posted on Instagram. “It’s been the role of a lifetime and I put everything into it. There’s not much I can show you, but I am so proud of the movie we’ve made.

The content gives fans a glimpse at what things were like during production, with smiles, costumes, and action from the set.

Kojo Attah plays Triclops in the movie, joining a cast that includes Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, Hafthor Bjornsson as Goat Man, Camila Mendes as Teela, and Jared Leto taking on the role of Skeletor.

Fans awaiting the 2026 live-action reboot of Masters of the Universe will soon be able to revisit its classic predecessor on a new streaming platform. The 1987 Masters of the Universe movie starring Dolph Lundgren is heading to Prime Video on June 1, 2025.

Based on the Mattel toy franchise, Masters of the Universe was directed by Gary Goddard and starred Lundgren as He-Man and Frank Langella as Skeletor.
