Michelle Pfeiffer first worked with director Jonathan Demme on the 1988 crime comedy "Married to the Mob." Pfeiffer played Angela De Marco, a put-upon wife of a rising mobster played by Alec Baldwin. When he is killed, Angela has to find a way to live a normal life away from New York's gangland. It proves to be difficult: Every time she thinks she's out, they pull her back in. Demme was impressed with Pfeiffer's performance, and immediately wanted her to star in his next directorial project, an adaptation of Thomas Harris' 1988 airport novel "The Silence of the Lambs."
As we know all know, Demme ended up making "The Silence of the Lambs" with Jodie Foster. "Lambs" tells the story of an FBI rookie named Clarice (Foster) who seeks the aid of an incarcerated cannibal serial killer named Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins) to capture another serial killer (Ted Levine) who is still at large.

As it stands, we are currently without a "Yellowstone" story blessing our screens now that "1923" has come to an end. But don't worry, folks; there's a whole host of spin-off shows on the way, including the Michelle Pfeiffer-starring series, "The Madison," and the Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) spin-off show, "Y: Marshals." One story's development that perhaps even pre-dates the airing of "Yellowstone's" final episode, though, is a show chronicling the future ventures of fiery-hot power couple, Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) and Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly).
Although it was a team effort to bring "Yellowstone" to its final episodes after the disruption caused by Kevin Costner's turbulent departure, Reilly and Hauser clearly carried the most weight in its closing chapters. It should come as no surprise, then, that they've got their own story to tell now that they're happily married and starting a dynasty of their own. But...

On August 1, at the age of 77, one of the Hollywood’s most impressive filmmakers died. Reports dropped on several sites, but the news cycle went on, and Jonathan Kaplan’s name faded from the headlines. I believe his work, however, deserves longer reflection.
IndieWire’s own Anne Thompson connected me to Kaplan’s daughter Molly, who in turn directed me to some of Kaplan’s closest friends and colleagues. Thanks to their participation, I was able to stitch together remembrances that better describe Kaplan than a simple obituary or list of credits could accomplish.
We are talking about a resume, though, that includes some buzzy titles — “Unlawful Entry,” “Bad Girls,” and a series you might have heard of called “E.R” among them. He was nominated for five Emmys. He directed Jodie Foster to her first Oscar win in 1988’s “The Accused.” “Love Field,” in 1992, brought Michelle Pfeiffer her third nomination.

David Ellison finally has his prize.
On Thursday, the Skydance Media founder closed the $8 billion merger with Paramount Global that he orchestrated, enduring political turbulence and skepticism about the viability of the company’s TV and movie empire for over a year. In order for the deal to pay off, Ellison, who will serve as chairman and CEO of the newly rechristened Paramount Skydance, must maintain strong partnerships with the creative community. Before the sale, Paramount has lacked the financial resources of competitors like Disney and Netflix, but it has been the home of top talent. Keeping them happy and busy cooking up ideas for new film, TV and streaming franchises will be critically important if Paramount Skydance wants to outmaneuver other studios.
On the film front, look for the new regime to try to maintain or even extend some crucial first-look deals as Josh Greenstein and Dana Goldberg, who will oversee the studio,...

Even though Yellowstone came to an abrupt end after five seasons last year, there's still a lot to look forward to in the still growing franchise from Taylor Sheridan. The story will continue with the forthcoming spinoff series Y: Marshals on CBS, which will star Luke Grimes reprising his role on Kayce Dutton alongside franchise newcomer Logan Marshall-Green.
Of course, the Yellowstone spinoff that fans have been most excited to get their hands on is the one featuring Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser returning as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler. The upcoming series, which was rumored to be titled Dutton Ranch, was supposedly set to make its premiere on either the Paramount Network or Paramount+ in November 2025. However, that's not the case now.

Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone franchise is expanding with an all-new spinoff, but this one won't be another prequel. Y: Marshals will follow Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) leaving the Yellowstone ranch to join an elite group of U.S. Marshals to protect Montana and bring justice to the region. As the title suggests, he won't be alone, as another actor has elected to join the popular western saga.
It's been announced that Logan Marshall-Green has joined the cast of Y: Marshals. He will play Pete Calvin, a close friend from Kayce's military past, in the upcoming CBS series. The network announced the show earlier this year, which will have a 13-episode freshman season. As of this writing, an official premiere date has not been settled, but Y: Marshals is expected to debut during the 2025-2026 broadcast season on Sundays.

Darren Aronofksy's extremely polarizing horror filmmother! has found a new streaming home on Paramount+, giving subscribers a chance to re-evaluate a release that divided audiences in 2017. Some were swept up in Aronofsky's star-studded metaphor, but just as many were disgusted by how far he was willing to go to make a point.

Per Deadline, Logan Marshall-Green has been cast to co-lead Y: Marshals as Pete Calvin, a friend from Kayce's time in the military. The actor is best known for his work in the horror movies Devil (2010) and The Invitation (2015) as well as Leigh Whannell's Upgrade (2018) and Ridley Scott’s Prometheus (2012). He also played the first Shocker in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and will next appear in Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated The Odyssey, which is scheduled to hit theaters in July 2026. Marshall-Green also shares a striking resemblance to fellow Spider-Man actor Tom Hardy, with the two often being mistaken for one another by fans.

Darren Aronofsky movies aren't known for being particularly straightforward, and his 2017 horror film "Mother!" is no exception. Jennifer Lawrence stars as the titular Mother, who spends the movie's runtime trying to fix up and take care of a dilapidated Victorian house while her husband, Him (Javier Bardem), mostly wanders around making things worse. The allegorical tale also stars Ed Harris as "man" and Michelle Pfeiffer as his wife, "woman," who visit with their family and wreak all kinds of havoc on the home. "Mother!" is a truly wild yet misunderstood horror film that's operating on multiple levels at once, telling a creation myth with a heavy environmental lesson about humanity's impact on the Earth while also delivering an examination of singular creatives and their process. It's a Bible story, an allegory about global warming, and a meta-commentary on making movies, all wrapped in one two-hour package.

"The Simpsons" has surely featured the best guest stars of any TV show in history. Some of that is simply by virtue of having run for a full 36 seasons, but in the early years especially, the show had so much cachet as a cultural force that big-name stars simply couldn't stay away. Though there is one type of guest star "The Simpsons" has yet to land, the long-running series has hosted everyone from A-list actors such as Michelle Pfeiffer to musical icons such as Johnny Cash.

The sun never sets on the Taylor Sheridan empire — and that includes Landman. Thanks to this week’s Paramount earnings call, we now know exactly when Billy Bob Thornton’s oil-field saga will return for its sophomore run: Landman Season 2 officially arrives on Paramount+ this December. The news came as part of a broader update on Sheridan’s ever-expanding universe. Tulsa King Season 3, starring Sylvester Stallone, will debut September 21. Mayor of Kingstown returns with Jeremy Renner in October. Then, just in time for the holidays, Landman resumes its tale of power, politics, and pipeline warfare in the modern-day American oil industry.
Set in West Texas and based on the Boomtown podcast, Landman follows Thornton’s Tommy Norris, a fixer-turned-executive navigating a brutal world where fortunes are made — and lost — one deal at a time. Season 1 ended on a high-stakes note with the death of MTex Oil exec Monty (played by...

DC is in the good graces of moviegoers again thanks to James Gunn's Superman. The film starring David Corenswet has restored faith in the brand. Not too dissimilar to howTim Burton’s Batman changed the course of that brooding character and company as a whole for decades to come. Now, as DC breathes fresh life into the superhero genre, Burton’s Batman returns with new figures from Mezco Toyz.
A part of Mezco's 5 Points nostalgic series, Wave 2 of Batman (1989) collection includes three figures: Cape Glide Batman, Museum Mayhem Joker, and a Joker Goon. The latter of which is two figures in one. Batman's figure is based on the opening scene, while The Joker takes inspiration from the middle of the movie, during which The Dark Knight has to save Vickie Vale from The Clown Prince of Crime at the museum. These debuted at San Diego Comic-Con and are scaled at 3.75 inches tall.

While it was previously expected to come out this year, the Beth and Rip-led Yellowstonespinoff looks to be shifting its release window. The series marks one of three spinoffs in the works for the Taylor Sheridan-co-created Western franchise, with the others being the Michelle Pfeiffer-starring The Madison, which is still without a release window, and Luke Grimes-led Marshals, which will air on CBS in 2026.
During the latest Paramount earnings call for Q2 of 2025, the studio laid out their plans for the rest of the year and beyond, including the roster of Taylor Sheridan-helmed shows. Among this list was the Beth and Rip-focused Yellowstone spinoff, now officially titled The Dutton Ranch, and is now slated to premiere in 2026. And thanks to the Paramount earnings call, we now know when to expect the next installments of Paramount+ favorites “Tulsa King,” “Mayor of Kingstown” and “Landman.”
The third season of the Sylvester Stallone-led “Tulsa King” will be released on Sept. 21, with “Mayor of Kingstown” Season 4 starring Jeremy Renner coming in October and “Landman” Season 2, starring Billy Bob Thornton, headed to Paramount+ this December.
Additionally, there was mention of “The Dutton Ranch,” the “Yellowstone” spinoff with Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly, which is expected to debut in 2026. There are more spinoffs on the way – “Y: Marshals,” starring Luke Grimes (which will head to Paramount’s flagship linear network CBS); “1944,” a continuation of the historical prequel series that began with “1888” and continued with “1923;” and “The Madison,” the still-shrouded-in-mystery spinoff starring Matthew Fox and Michelle Pfeiffer. The rollout of those has yet to be detailed.

There are the famous Avengers — guys like Thor and Captain America. Then there are the less obvious ones. We're talking about the guys on the periphery. Sometimes they're less important. At other times, they're literally too small to see. They're the ones who spend time off the radar (because they're on house arrest). They're often mistaken at restaurants for Spider-Man. In a compound word, they're Ant-Man.
Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) is an unsung hero of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In his own franchise, the reformed convict cheerfully does the right thing. He also plays a critical role in the larger "Avengers" timeline and is passionately Team Captain America. But what are Lang's best and worst moments in the MCU? Let's rank the "Ant-Man" movies from worst to first. We'll include his appearances in other full-length feature films besides his eponymous entries — but not multiverse shows like "What If...?"

In terms of cinema, there's nothing more frustrating than jumping aboard a potential franchise, only to see studio heads pull the plug due to poor critical reception, underwhelming box office, or negative fan backlash. Surprisingly, this happens a lot, with an assortment of properties left dangling without a proper resolution to their storylines.
Typically, the fault lies with the producers, who too often put the cart before the horse and spend far too much time setting the stage for future sequels and spinoffs rather than focusing on laying a solid foundation for their property. And so, we're left with a bevy of incomplete films that vanish into the void -- often leaving a lot of unrealized potential on the table.
We've perused the cinematic landfill for examples of this unfortunate filmmaking staple and found 15 noteworthy cliffhangers that were never resolved. So grab some popcorn and take a look -- and don't worry,...

Most of Marvel Studios’s films are the cinematic equivalent of breadcrumbs, which have been dropped into theaters strategically so as to keep one looking for the next sequel or crossover, when the endless televisual exposition will eventually, theoretically yield an event of actual consequence. Occasionally, however, a Marvel film transcends this impersonality and justifies one’s patience. Weird, stylish, and surprisingly lyrical, Ant-Man, Iron Man 3, and Doctor Strange attest to the benefits of the old Hollywood-style studio system that Marvel has resurrected: Under the umbrella of structure and quota is security, which can bequeath qualified freedom. On the occasion of the release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, here’s a ranking of every film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) to date. Chuck Bowen

At the time of filming, Ford was already a legendary figure, known for his unforgettable roles in Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Blade Runner, and more. Pfeiffer, 16 years his junior, had grown up watching Ford on the big screen and held a deep admiration for his work. Their pairing created instant intrigue for fans and critics alike. Pfeiffer’s comments highlight not only Ford’s magnetic on-screen presence, but also his off-screen charisma and dedication to the craft. A romantic scene from Bradley Cooper‘s 2014 period drama Serena has a striking resemblance to a nearly identical moment in Al Pacino’s underrated movie Frankie and Johnny (1991). Directed by Garry Marshall, the movie stars Al Pacino and Michelle Pfeiffer in their titular roles. In both movies, the male lead suddenly declares his love and proposes marriage, using near-identical lines: “I think we should get married.”
In Frankie and Johnny, Al Pacino‘s character, Johnny, comes across from Pfeiffer’s Frankie and earnestly proposes a nearly identical line.
I’m in love with you. I love you. I’m totally and completely mad for you… I think we should get married. I definitely want to have kids. Four or five if possible?
The moment may seem awkward, but it carries significant emotional weight within the context of the movie. Similar to a scene in Serena, the declaration feels abrupt. Especially...

Though now widely recognized as a seminal film with indelible cultural influence — sparking references, parodies and homages aplenty since its 1994 release — Pulp Fiction, created on a small seven-figure budget, wasn’t something star Uma Thurman initially realized would have such a watershed impact.
In a recent interview with The Times U.K., the Oscar nominee discussed her four-decade-plus career and turn alongside Charlize Theron in Victoria Mahoney’s The Old Guard 2, released July 2 on Netflix.
“I knew it was special, you could tell from the writing, the uniqueness,” Thurman said of the Quentin Tarantino- helmed and written feature, “but it was a relatively small film.”

In 2019, a single decision left a deep cut in pop culture history – The Simpsons pulled its iconic Season 3 premiere, Stark Raving Dad, featuring none other than Michael Jackson. Six years later, the sting still lingers. What was once a fan-fave, emotional, and musically memorable episode became collateral damage in the wake of HBO’s Leaving Neverland documentary, which spotlighted abuse allegations against the late pop icon.
“This was a treasured episode. There are a lot of great memories we have wrapped up in that one, and this certainly doesn’t allow them to remain,” said long-time producer James L. Brooks (per The Wall Street Journal), acknowledging how deeply personal the choice was for the creators who’d worked closely with Jackson to craft it.
The episode marked a surreal and powerful crossover between two cultural titans – The Simpsons at the peak of its golden age and Michael Jackson, still the biggest music icon on Earth.

At first glance, Jerry Zucker wouldn't seem like the kind of filmmaker to have a ghost of a chance at crafting a Best Picture-nominated film. But that unlikely event came to pass 35 years ago when the codirector of spoof comedies like Airplane! and The Naked Gun made the supernatural romance Ghost. Released on July 13, 1990, the film went on to become the year's biggest domestic box-office hit and a surprise Oscar powerhouse.
Zucker rose to Hollywood fame as a member of the Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker trio that included brother David Zucker and their friend, the late Jim Abrahams. Together, they wrote The Kentucky Fried Movie before helming seminal comedies Airplane! and Top Secret!.
Hot on the heels of their 1986 non-spoof comedy hit Ruthless People, the team locked down a two-year deal with Paramount Pictures. That deal launched with a bang thanks to The Naked Gun, based on their short-lived TV series, Police Squad.

As Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe expands, fan-favorite actor Finn Little will return as Carter Dutton for the Beth & Rip spinoff, which is currently in development. The spinoff series does not have a title as of yet. However, we know the project finds Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser reprising their roles as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, respectively.
According to a report from Deadline, the Beth & Rip spinoff should remain in the present-day timeline, keeping with Yellowstone’s canon. Yellowstone follows “the Dutton family, led by John Dutton (Kevin Costner), who controls the largest contiguous ranch in the United States. The ranch is under constant attack by those it borders—land developers, an Indian reservation, and United States of America’s first National Park.”
Finn Little debuted in Yellowstone’s fourth season. He is a troubled teen who meets Beth at the hospital where her ailing father receives care. Carter...

The Yellowstone franchise has already branded out with several prequels, but it will be getting a spin-off set after the controversial events of the series finale. Featuring the show's fan-favorites Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, another key character will be seen in the new Yellowstone follow-up. Paramount+ has been secretive about the streaming series, but reports continue to flow out of the highly-anticipated project.
According to Deadline, Yellowstone actor Finn Little has joined the upcoming spin-off focused on Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser). Little will reprise his role as Carter, the young teen that was first introduced in Season 4. Considering that he had a close relationship with Beth and Rip, it makes sense that Little will have an elevated role as a series regular this time around. Plot details remain scarce regarding the currently untitled series, but expect it to take place in the modern-day timeline and,...

Exclusive: Finn Little will reprise his Yellowstone character, Carter, as a series regular in the as-yet-untitled Beth and Rip spinoff for Paramount+, sources tell Deadline. He joins his former co-stars Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser, who are leading the Taylor Sheridan series as their characters from the original series, Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, respectively.
As Deadline revealed in December, the show is expected to remain on the same present-day timeline, with the new offshoot sharing the most DNA with the mothership of any show in the universe to date.
The original series follows the Dutton family that controls the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the United States.
