In an interview with Rolling Stone to promote the book release of “Ghosts of Hiroshima,” which he plans on adapting into a movie, the Oscar-winning “Titantic” and “Avatar” director said an arms race relying on AI is a dangerous thing.

Recently, they’ve headlined the 4K releases of some Hong Kong action classics, which also includes a new streaming channel of said 4K releases. Now, they are announcing a new 25th Anniversary 4K Blu-ray of the Arnold Schwarzenegger horror-actioner End of Days. By 1999, Schwarzenegger had been experimenting with more family-friendly movies in his career, which included Junior, Jingle All the Way and the much derided villainous turn in Batman & Robin. For his edgy comeback, who can Arnold fight that is as larger-than-life as he is? How about the devil himself?!

In total, Fubar’s minutes of viewing declined by 73 percent from season one to two. During its premiere week, the series landed at No. 8 among Netflix’s original shows for its second season.

The series was a hit for the streamer in Season 1, back in 2023, but failed to perform as well during its second season, which premiered on June 12 — more than two years after its initial run. The show managed to make Nielsen’s streaming originals top 10 for the week of June 16, after its premiere, but then fell off the chart the following week.

Here was the logline to the series: “Luke Brunner is a veteran CIA operative who, up until recently, was on the verge of retirement. After his last mission in saving another operative – who just so happened to be his daughter – he’s back and face to face with new villains. The action/comedy series starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as Luke Bremmer, a CIA operative on the verge of retirement who discovers a family secret and is forced to go back into the field for one last job. Unfortunately, the cancellation isn’t a big surprise, as the second season came and went with minimal impact, with the show barely occupying the last spot in Netflix’s Top 10 in its first week.

It follows a surprisingly soft return for the series, which, likely fueled by Schwarzenegger’s global star power, had a strong debut in May 2023 and also stars Monica Barbaro who became an Oscar nominee between Seasons 1 and 2 for A Complete Unknown.

In fact, Cruise, Reeves, and Yen are all over sixty. A few of the most legendary action stars, all of whom are still cranking out movies—like Sylvester Stallone, Jackie Chan, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Liam Neeson—are well over seventy. And Harrison Ford, Indiana Jones himself, is in his eighties.

So what, you might say—people get old. Deal with it. And that’s absolutely true. But there’s a huge vacuum in Hollywood that no one really addresses: where are the younger action heroes? Who is going to pick up the mantle once the legends are gone?

Of the names listed above, I’d expect Statham, Reeves, and Cruise to keep making action movies well into their seventies and beyond.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has had a prolific but inconsistent career. On the one hand, he has been part of some huge action movies, including The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Both are regarded as sci-fi action classics, and have maintained interest even after decades.

On the other hand, the actor has had his fair share of flops over the course of his career. Such is the case, for example, with his 1985 version of Red Sonja. Despite its basis in existing comic book material, the film ended up making only $6.9 million worldwide. The following year, he released Raw Deal, which made only $16.2 million.

Schwarzenegger has particularly struggled in recent years, decades after his career peak. His 2017 film Aftermath, for example, did not even get a wide release in the United States and made less than $1 million from international markets. Now, one of his other 21st century bombs is doing well on streaming.

In a recent interview with Empire Magazine, the Top Gun: Maverick and Twisters star revealed he's not particularly drawn to roles that involve capes, cosmic powers, or mutant abilities.

“I just don’t identify with people with superpowers for the most part,” Powell explained, discussing what led him to take on the role of Richards in the upcoming remake of The Running Man. “I like the ordinary guy against extraordinary odds. The entire world is hunting this man, trying to kill him. Can he survive? Can he save his family? That’s a great, simple story.”
