Everyone knows the story of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck's lifelong friendship; how they broke into Hollywood together by writing and starring in "Good Will Hunting," winning an Oscar and establishing themselves as two of the most significant forces in the industry for decades to come. That's the short version, anyway. The slightly longer version begins with the boys growing up together in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where they lived just two blocks apart and attended the same school. After high school, Damon enrolled in Harvard, where he wrote the beginnings of "Good Will Hunting" before dropping out and traveling to live with his buddy, Affleck, out in Los Angeles.

The Warner Bros. division is moving forward with a follow-up to its horror hit Final Destination: Bloodlines, hiring that movie’s co-writer, Lori Evans Taylor, to pen the next installment.

The hiring comes after Bloodlines, released in May, grossed over $286 million at the worldwide box office, $138.1 million of that domestically. That movie was the sixth installment of the horror franchise and the first one since 2011.

Prime Video has been on a serious roll lately, especially when it comes to action comedies, and I am so here for it. It’s one of my favorite genres, and Prime Video has been dropping a steady stream of big, funny, explosion-filled movies (including the latest one starring Eddie Murphy!). It honestly feels like they’re using these as warm-ups before the next “James Bond” movie — which Amazon now fully controls — and if that’s the case, keep practicing so as not to mess with one of the best franchises of all time. Between these newer titles, some underrated sequels, and a few all-time crowd-pleasers, I went back through everything and pulled the seven best movies streaming on Prime Video right now. Whether you’re into treasure hunts, buddy comedies, or full-blown musical magic, here’s where I’d start.

A show about Elvis as a secret agent from "Archer" writer Mike Arnold and singer-screenwriter John Eddie sounds wild enough to become a hit — or, at the least, a cult favorite. When I first saw the filmography lineup today, I knew we were in for a tricky ride.

The performance of Heads of State continues a strong viewership performance for the streamer in recent times, with other movies such as Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans’ Christmas action comedy Red Onedrawing in 50 million views within days of its release and The Accountant 2, starring Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal, which garnered 80 million views within its first month.

Two-time Oscar-nominated director Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting, Milk, Drugstore Cowboy) will receive this year’s Campari Passion for Film Award at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival.

The honor recognizes film professionals whose creative work “reflects a deep and enduring passion for cinema.” Unlike a lifetime achievement award, the Campari Passion for Film Award celebrates artistic vision and the drive to leave a lasting imprint on cinematic storytelling.

Van Sant will receive the honor in Venice on Sept. 2, ahead of the out-of-competition world premiere of his new film, Dead Man’s Wire. The based-on-a-true-story thriller stars Bill Skarsgard, Dacre Montgomery, Colman Domingo, Cary Elwes, Myha’la and Al Pacino.

Veteran American filmmaker Gus Van Sant will be handed the Campari Passion for Film Award at this year’s Venice Film Festival.

The award ceremony will take place on September 2 in the Sala Grande, just before a screening of his latest film Dead Man’s Wire, which screens out of Competition.

The film stars Bill Skarsgård, Dacre Montgomery, Colman Domingo, Cary Elwes, Myha’la, and Al Pacino. The film was written by Austin Kolodney and produced by Elevated.

The film tells the story of Anthony G. “Tony” Kiritsis, a former real estate developer who, in 1977, took a mortgage banker hostage in a downtown office. Kiritsis, believing he was cheated out of money, armed himself with a sawed-off shotgun wired to a “dead man’s switch” around his own neck, demanding a $5 million apology, and immunity from prosecution.

Gus Van Sant will be celebrated by the Venice Film Festival with its Campari Passion for Film Award.

Van Sant is a key figure of American indie cinema from the 1980s onwards, whose body of work includes “Drugstore Cowboy,” “My Own Private Idaho,” the Columbine shooting-inspired “Elephant,” Nicole Kidman’s “To Die For,” Oscar winner “Milk” and “Good Will Hunting,” which launched Ben Affleck and Matt Damon into stardom.

Van Sant will be on the Lido with hostage thriller “Dead Man’s Wire,” starring Bill Skarsgård, Colman Domingo, Dacre Montgomery and Al Pacino, which is screening at Venice out of competition. He will receive the prize on Sept. 2 before the gala screening of “Dead Man’s Wire.”

“Gus Van Sant is a unique filmmaker in the landscape of contemporary cinema, who combines a deeply independent perspective with a remarkable ability to connect with audiences,” said Venice artistic director Alberto Barbera in a statement.

Mike Tollin’s upcoming doc, Unraveling George will have its World Premiere at the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival on August 1, with wide distribution and a series of special events planned for early 2026. Tollin directed the doc with Marlon Wayans narrating and producing the doc. Charles Barkey also will exec produce.

The doc features are Ben Affleck, Nike CEO Phil Knight, Jerry West, Ahmad Rashad, Dirk Nowitzki; Hall of Fame coaches including Pat Riley, Doc Rivers, Lefty Driesell, John Calipari, and Jay Wright.

The 23rd edition of the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival kicks off Friday with a documentary about Civil Rights leader, entrepreneur and Hall of Fame Coach George Raveling.

Directed by Mike Tollin and narrated by Marlon Wayans, who played Raveling in Air (2023), Unraveling George will make its world premiere at 2pm at the Mv Performing Arts Center, kicking off the festival’s Aug. 1-9 run.

“George Raveling is a mentor, a friend and a confidant, and I would not be Michael Jordan without him,” says the 6x NBA champ in the trailer for the doc.

Ben Affleck revealed his favorite scene from the Dceu as Batman, and it is not in any of Zack Snyder’s movies. Affleck began his tenure as the Caped Crusader in Batman v.
