Blow Out is a neo-noir mystery thriller film written and directed by Brian De Palma. The 1981 film follows Jack Terry, a sound engineer for a slasher film, who accidentally records evidence that proves that a seemingly ordinary accident is actually murder, and he soon finds himself hunted because of it.

Though now widely recognized as a seminal film with indelible cultural influence — sparking references, parodies and homages aplenty since its 1994 release — Pulp Fiction, created on a small seven-figure budget, wasn’t something star Uma Thurman initially realized would have such a watershed impact.

In a recent interview with The Times U.K., the Oscar nominee discussed her four-decade-plus career and turn alongside Charlize Theron in Victoria Mahoney’s The Old Guard 2, released July 2 on Netflix.

“I knew it was special, you could tell from the writing, the uniqueness,” Thurman said of the Quentin Tarantino- helmed and written feature, “but it was a relatively small film.”

Blu-ray.com has reported on Sony’s newest physical media release for the 1985 western Silverado. The Lawrence Kasdan film is packed with an all-star cast that includes Kevin Kline, Scott Glenn, Kevin Costner, Danny Glover, John Cleese, Jeff Goldblum, Jeff Fahey, Rosanna Arquette, Linda Hunt & Brian Dennehy. The movie will come in a Blu-ray/4K Blu-ray combo pack and is scheduled to be available on October 7.

Our Eic, Chris Bumbray, raved about the film in a retrospective column and video, in which he stated, “Silverado is so much fun that it’s insane to think that the movie never spawned a western franchise that would have sustained a whole series of films. Kasdan should still be making Silverado adventures thirty years later. For one thing, this was Kasdan in his prime, so the writing and craftsmanship is right-on.”

“American Honey” breakout Sasha Lane and “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3” star Elias Kacavas have joined the cast of the horror-satire “Corporate Retreat.” The pair will appear in an ensemble that includes Alan Ruck (“Succession”), Rosanna Arquette (“Pulp Fiction”), Ashton Sanders (“Moonlight”) and Odeya Rush (“Lady Bird”). The film is currently shooting in Los Angeles.

Lane’s recent credits include “Twisters” and “How to Blow Up a Pipeline,” as well as the limited series adaptation of Sally Rooney’s “Conversations With Friends”.

Kacavas recently starred in the “Pretty Little Liars” reboot series. He also starred in the film “Winter Spring Summer or Fall” alongside Jenna Ortega, and was also featured in the HBO series “Euphoria.”

Odeya Rush has joined the cast of “Corporate Retreat.” The ensemble for the horror-thriller includes Simona Tabasco (“White Lotus”), Alan Ruck (“Succession”), Ashton Sanders (“Moonlight”), and Rosanna Arquette (“Pulp Fiction”). Principal photography on the film is set to begin in June.

Rush is known for her performances in several critically acclaimed projects, including Greta Gerwig’s “Lady Bird,” for which she shared a SAG Award nomination for outstanding cast, as well as Apple TV+’s “Cha Cha Real Smooth,” opposite Dakota Johnson and Cooper Raiff. Per Variety, Ruck joins Rosanna Arquette (Pulp Fiction) and Ashton Sanders (The Equalizer 2) in the new horror flick, Corporate Retreat. Written by Fisher and Kerri Lee Romeo, the horror-thriller follows "a group of corporate employees at a tech company whose team-bonding retreat devolves into a bloody fight to survive the tests of a vengeful executive." Corporate Retreat will serve as Fisher's second feature directorial effort following his 2019 film, Inside the Rain. The film is produced by Uri Singer, who is best known for films such as White Noise and Tesla.

The Criterion Mobile Closet is making yet another stop on its nationwide road trip.

Following its appearance at SXSW and at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall during the 62nd New York Film Festival, the Mobile Closet van is now coming to Los Angeles. Film lovers can stop by Vidiots from April 26-27 anytime between 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Additionally, the closet will be featured at the Aero Theatre from June 6-7 between 11 a.m.-8 p.m. as part of American Cinematheque’s “Bleak Week: Cinema of Despair” programming.

In past pop ups, the Criterion Mobile Closet has drawn enormous crowds, with fans waiting hours for the chance to get their own experience in the famed space. They join the previously announced Lilly Krug (Plane) in the satirical horror-thriller, which is set to begin principal photography in June.

Described as “a gory mix of The Menu and Saw,” the film centers around a group of corporate executives whose team-bonding trip turns into a bloody fight for survival against a vengeful retreat leader.

Uri Singer is producing via his Passage Pictures.

“We are so thrilled to welcome Rosanna and Ashton to Corporate Retreat,” Singer said in a statement. “They are incredibly talented performers who will bring tremendous depth to these characters.”

Corporate Retreat centers on a group of corporate executives whose bonding retreat takes a deadly turn as they face off against a vengeful retreat leader. Fisher co-wrote the script with Kerri Lee Romeo. The project is being produced by Passage Pictures, with Uri Singer serving as producer.

Arquette, known for her roles in Pulp Fiction, Desperately Seeking Susan, and After Hours, brings a wealth of experience to the cast. Her recent television credits include Presumed Innocent (Apple TV), Florida Man (Netflix), and Big Sky (ABC).

Sanders, who gained widespread recognition in Moonlight, also starred in Native Son, Judas and the Black Messiah, Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody, and The Equalizer 2.

Fisher’s previous directorial work includes the romantic drama Inside the Rain.

A24’s The Moment has begun shooting in London and is set to star a cavalcade of Hollywood stars as well as Charli xcx.

Fresh off of winning three Grammys for her 2024 album Brat, Charli xcx is now in London filming A24’s mystery project The Moment, as reported by Screen Daily. A24 has been particularly quiet about the project, which was announced in January 2025 and no plot details have been made officially available but Screen Daily has heard rumours that the film is about a pop star preparing for their first tour.

Charli xcx will be joined by Alexander Skarsgård, Rosanna Arquette, Trew Mullen, Isaac Cole Powell, Rish Shah, Kate Berlant and Jamie Demetriou in the film. Aidan Zamiri, who has directed several music videos for Charli xcx as well as FKA Twigs and Billie Eilish among others, is directing and co-writing the script with Bertie Brandes.

Jane Fonda is urging Hollywood to confront these fraught times with empathy.

“What we, actors, create is empathy. Our job is to understand another human being so profoundly that we can touch their souls,” said Fonda, who was honored on Sunday night with SAG’s life achievement award. “And make no mistake, empathy is not weak or woke. By the way, woke just means you give a damn about other people.”

During her lively speech, Fonda made oblique references to the political environment and the Trump administration’s drive to cut federal jobs. “A whole lot of people are going to be really hurt by what is happening,” she said. “Even if they’re of a different political persuasion, we need to not judge but listen from our hearts.”

Exclusive: Walters Media Group, the recently launched shingle of veteran producer Gary Michael Walters, has acquired the film rights to The Third Parent, the acclaimed creepypasta from writer Elias Witherow. The 2025 Oscar nominations were finally unveiled on Thursday, after being delayed due to the wildfires that have ravaged the Los Angeles area in recent weeks. The announcement ceremony, hosted Rachel Sennott and Bowen Yang, was streamed live from the Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

Before the announcement commenced, Academy CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang addressed the tragedy. “On behalf of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, I want to welcome you and extend our deepest sympathies to everyone impacted by the fires here in southern California,” said Kramer.
