Uma Thurman Says She Didn’t Realize ‘Pulp Fiction’ Would Be As Iconic When She Was Making It
Image
Though now widely recognized as a seminal film with indelible cultural influence — sparking references, parodies and homages aplenty since its 1994 release — Pulp Fiction, created on a small seven-figure budget, wasn’t something star Uma Thurman initially realized would have such a watershed impact.

In a recent interview with The Times U.K., the Oscar nominee discussed her four-decade-plus career and turn alongside Charlize Theron in Victoria Mahoney’s The Old Guard 2, released July 2 on Netflix.

“I knew it was special, you could tell from the writing, the uniqueness,” Thurman said of the Quentin Tarantino- helmed and written feature, “but it was a relatively small film.”

Amid its debut at Cannes, where it won the coveted Palme d’Or, Thurman had already been acting for 10 years. At 24, she starred as Mia Wallace, the wife to Ving Rhames’ crime boss and an aspiring actress, for which she was Oscar nominated...

Embark on a journey to Silverado with a new 4K Blu-ray for the film’s 40th Anniversary
Image
Blu-ray.com has reported on Sony’s newest physical media release for the 1985 western Silverado. The Lawrence Kasdan film is packed with an all-star cast that includes Kevin Kline, Scott Glenn, Kevin Costner, Danny Glover, John Cleese, Jeff Goldblum, Jeff Fahey, Rosanna Arquette, Linda Hunt & Brian Dennehy. The movie will come in a Blu-ray/4K Blu-ray combo pack and is scheduled to be available on October 7.

Our Eic, Chris Bumbray, raved about the film in a retrospective column and video, in which he stated, “Silverado is so much fun that it’s insane to think that the movie never spawned a western franchise that would have sustained a whole series of films. Kasdan should still be making Silverado adventures thirty years later. For one thing, this was Kasdan in his prime, so the writing and craftsmanship is right-on.”

The description reads,

“This spirited Western stars Academy Award®-winner Kevin Kline,...

Futra Days Review: Ambition, Romance, and Static on the Screen
Image
We’ve all been there, scrolling through dating profiles, trying to engineer the perfect connection based on a few curated photos and a witty bio. It speaks to a very modern anxiety: the desire to eliminate risk from romance, to know the outcome before we invest our time and emotions. Futra Days takes this impulse to its logical, sci-fi extreme.

The film introduces us to Sean, a Los Angeles music producer who meets Nichole, an aspiring singer with an infectious energy. Their initial spark is undeniable. But instead of letting things unfold, Sean enlists the help of an experimental clinic that promises to send him into the future. His goal is to see if Nichole is his destiny. This quiet, introspective indie film sets itself up as a thoughtful exploration of love in an age that demands certainty.

‘Baby It’s You’ Blu-ray Review (Fun City Editions)
Image
Stars: Rosanna Arquette, Vincent Spano, Tracy Pollan, Matthew Modine, Robert Downey Jr. | Written and Directed by John Sayles

You have probably heard the statement ‘You can’t help who you fall in love with’. Sometimes you just can’t help it! Even Elvis sang about this with his classic song ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love with You’. You probably heard ‘girls love the bad boys’. A lot of times, this is true. There have been many romantic films about those kinds of love stories.

In 1983, Academy Award-nominated screenwriter and director John Sayles Passion Fish (1992) and Lone Star (1996), helmed the romantic comedy-drama Baby It’s You. And now Fun City Editions, who have been releasing some great Blu-rays like Party Girl, Falling in Love, and Breaking Glass, have released Sayles’ rom-com, giving it its time to shine on Blu-ray!

Futra Days review – esoteric sci-fi romance offers lovers time-jump ‘happiness heists’ to save relationships
Rosanna Arquette, Liam Lynch, Tania Raymonde, Orian Williams, Emily McEnroe, Jonathan Sheldon, Paul Hicks, Dhani Harrison, Kimberly Estrada, Kenny Copeland Jr., Farhad Ahmed Dehlvi, Matthew Johnston, Brandon Sklenar, Maren H. A man gets catapulted into the future to help him understand the future of his crush, but the sloppy chronology and gratuitous stylistic touches leave this film a little too infatuated with itself

With studio projects abandoning Los Angeles as a shooting location, it’s the low-budget crowd that are still holdouts, presumably out of necessity. Futra Days is another in the line of esoteric films about overheated Angeleno creative minds that the pandemic seemed to encourage; the likes of the hermeneutic sci-fi Something in the Dirt or family found-footage He’s Watching. But running time-travel rings around a dysfunctional relationship, Ryan David’s sophomore effort is just a bit too infatuated with itself.

Jaded record producer Sean is wondering whether a new crush on thrift-shop worker and aspiring singer Nichole (Tania Raymonde) will go the distance. So he signs up to a “happiness heist”: being catapulted into the...

As she plays a woman with a time machine in new sci-fi mind-bender Futra Days, the Desperately Seeking Susan and Pulp Fiction actor will answer your questions about her extremely varied career

Rosanna Arquette – the older sister of actors Patricia and David – found fame as the bored housewife to Madonna’s bohemian drifter in 1985’s Desperately Seeking Susan. Elsewhere in your cinematic memory, she helped save Uma Thurman from accidentally overdosing in Pulp Fiction, and had her fishnet stockings ripped off by James Spader in David Cronenberg’s Crash.

But Arquette has been in all sorts of films, opposite all sorts of actors: she co-starred with Joe Pesci and Danny Glover in trip gone wrong comedy Gone Fishin’, Tim Roth and Renée Zellweger in mystery film Liar, and Christina Ricci, Vincent Gallo and Mickey Rourke in Buffalo 66. In the 2000s, she starred in the thriller Diary of a Sex Addict,...

Madonna at an event for 55th BFI London Film Festival (2011)
Desperately Seeking Susan - Jennie Kermode - 19774
Madonna at an event for 55th BFI London Film Festival (2011)
There’s a certain level of celebrity in which everything is expected to come together naturally, genius in one field extending to at least a measure of ability in others. Singing, dancing, modelling, producing – all these things, Madonna Ciccone could do. As for acting – well, that was where it all went horribly wrong. If you haven’t seen Shanghai Surprise, well, it’s probably best to keep it that way. Desperately Seeking Susan is the one film that gets away with including her, largely because director Susan Seidelman has her play something close to herself, whilst also limiting her screentime. This also serve to preserve the mystique she was then working hard to develop, and she glitters on the sidelines as the soulful work is left to Rosanna Arquette.

Arquette plays Roberta, a meek little thing who gets pushed around and exploited by practically everyone, not least her scuzzy husband Gary (Mark.

Hollywood’s entertainment industry has seen a lot of filmmakers debut over the years, but perhaps none as iconic as Quentin Tarantino. A force to be reckoned with, the way he has shaped the trajectory of his career is truly commendable, with his flicks standing out for their nonlinear narratives, snappy dialogue, and a blend of violence and pop culture references.

This includes the one film that rode such unprecedented heights of success that it had Tarantino become a household name overnight: Pulp Fiction. Not only did that movie grant him unparalleled fame, but it also won him some of the biggest accolades of all time. And if you have been missing it too much, now it has also been made available to watch on Hulu!

This Star-Studded Quentin Tarantino Film Is Finally On Hulu
Image
Few films can compare to the sheer star power Quentin Tarantino assembled for Pulp Fiction. In addition to a dynamite script and deft direction, the flick serves up a dazzling mixture of up-and-coming talent and household names. The film helped to revitalize John Travolta’s career and aided in launching Samuel L. Jackson and Uma Thurman to superstardom. One thing is for sure, Quentin Tarantino has an eye for talent and an uncompromising creative vision.

Catch Pulp Fiction on Hulu now!

If you haven’t seen Pulp Fiction in a while and count yourself ready for a return visit to the gritty crime anthology, you’re in luck. Hulu added the film to their lineup on earlier this year.

Pulp Fiction is Tarantino’s sophomore feature film. Many consider it his magnum opus. However, with a filmography like his, it’s tough for me to name just one picture as his best.

The Women Who Helped Bring Carly & Nina’s Epic Catfight to Life on General Hospital
Image
We were not prepared for the fight that went down between Carly and Nina during the Monday, May 19 episode of General Hospital. A slap, maybe, but not a full-on smackdown. While nobody condones violence, this throwdown was years in the making. The animosity between these two formidable characters was only going to end up in a tussle of epic proportions despite the shaky alliance they forged to extract Drew out of Willow and their grandkids’ lives. Shortly after this catfight for the ages, Gh’s social media people released a couple of photos. They spotlighted two women who helped bring this clash of the titans to life.

Behind the Scenes Look

Nina couldn’t believe Carly (Laura Wright) pushed Michael (Chad Duell) and Willow’s divorce/custody case to trial before Michael even healed from his extensive burns. Carly was done with Willow (Katelyn MacMullen). She didn’t want her...

Debra Winger movies: 10 greatest films ranked worst to best
Image
Oscar-nominated Debra Winger is one of the most enigmatic actresses of her generation. She burst onto the film scene in 1980 with "Urban Cowboy" and in the course of the next three years, she was nominated for four Golden Globe Awards as well as two Oscar nominations (for "Officer" and "Terms"). To many female moviegoers in particular, Winger embodied the kind of tough, self-sufficient woman that they aspired to become, yet there was always room within Winger's characters for love with the right person.

Post-1983, Winger continued to work steadily, earning a fifth Golden Globe nod for 1993's "A Dangerous Woman" as well as a third Oscar nomination and second BAFTA nom for 1993's "Shadowlands." However, after 1995's romantic comedy "Forget Paris," Winger virtually disappeared from high-profile films, choosing a semi-retirement with occasional film work now and then. The idea of retiring at the peak of one's career was almost unheard...

“Dead Language,” the feature adaptation of 2014’s Oscar-nominated short film “Aya,” is heading to Cannes, where WestEnd Films will launch world sales.

The film was recently announced as screening in Tribeca’s Viewpoint Section in June.

Shot under the radar, “Dead Language,” stars Sarah Adler, Ulrich Thomsen, Yehezkel Lazarov and Lars Eidinger. It was co-directed by husband-and-wife filmmakers Mihal Brezis and Oded Binnun, based on their original short, which also starred Adler and Thomsen.

The B-Side Ep. 160 – Debra Winger (with Murtada Elfadl)
Image
Welcome to The B-Side! Here we talk about movie stars! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones that they made in between.

Today we talk about the great Debra Winger! Our B-Sides include Legal Eagles, Betrayed, The Sheltering Sky, and Forget Paris. Our guest is the inestimable Murtada Elfadl, Culture Writer, Critic, and Film Curator.

We discuss Winger’s stratospheric rise to stardom, her indescribable performance in Terms of Endearment, and her (unfair?) reputation for being “difficult.” There’s also plenty of discussion about Rosanna Arquette’s documentary Searching for Debra Winger, a film in which Arquette speaks with many famous actresses about aging in Hollywood. The motivation of the piece was partly motivated by Winger’s exodus from the business for over half a decade in the mid-1990s.

There’s also conversation about Shirley MacLaine’s 1984 Oscars speech, Tom Berenger being...

Jane Fonda Says ‘Woke Just Means You Give a Damn About Other People,’ Calls on Hollywood to Fight With Empathy in SAG Awards Speech
Image
Jane Fonda is urging Hollywood to confront these fraught times with empathy.

“What we, actors, create is empathy. Our job is to understand another human being so profoundly that we can touch their souls,” said Fonda, who was honored on Sunday night with SAG’s life achievement award. “And make no mistake, empathy is not weak or woke. By the way, woke just means you give a damn about other people.”

During her lively speech, Fonda made oblique references to the political environment and the Trump administration’s drive to cut federal jobs. “A whole lot of people are going to be really hurt by what is happening,” she said. “Even if they’re of a different political persuasion, we need to not judge but listen from our hearts.”

Fonda also spoke to the power of unions — like SAG-AFTRA — to protect people during unsettling moments in history. “I’m a big believer in unions.

‘Ex-Husbands’ Review: After Loss, a New Lease on Life, Perhaps, for a Father and His Sons
Image
Noah Pritzker’s Ex-Husbands is about how things end: relationships, marriages, chapters in lives, and lives themselves. It’s also about things not ending—the way marriages and marital problems roll on and parents remain flawed, fallible people. And whichever side of this equation Ex-Husbands is musing on, it’s full of memorably mellow humor.

New York dentist Peter Pearce (Griffin Dunne) is nonplussed to learn that his father, Simon (Richard Benjamin), has decided to file for a divorce after some six decades of marriage. Delivered in a disarmingly matter-of-fact manner, their conversation sets the comedic tone for the rest of the film. Ex-Husbands is the sort of funny movie that has few actual jokes. It makes us laugh just by having characters spell out the absurdities they’ve encountered in the simplest terms, like a man in his 80s talking about how excited he is to get back in the dating game.

How the Oscar nominations addressed the Los Angeles wildfires
Image
The 2025 Oscar nominations were finally unveiled on Thursday, after being delayed due to the wildfires that have ravaged the Los Angeles area in recent weeks. The announcement ceremony, hosted Rachel Sennott and Bowen Yang, was streamed live from the Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

Before the announcement commenced, Academy CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang addressed the tragedy. “On behalf of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, I want to welcome you and extend our deepest sympathies to everyone impacted by the fires here in southern California,” said Kramer.

“This has certainly been a difficult time for Los Angeles, where many members of our film community industry work and live, but the last several weeks have proven what we already know to be true. Our film industry and Los Angeles are resilient,” Yang added. “And for almost a century the Oscars have brought us together to unite and celebrate our global film community.

Películas de medianoche: un paseo por las ‘cult movies’ más noctámbulas.
Image
De Martin Scorsese a Walter Hill.

© mundoCine | Filmin | Universal Pictures

“Nero Fiddling While Rome Burns”: Stephen King Doubles Down On 2025 Oscars Cancellation Call After Hearing From Ceremony Supporters
Image
After Stephen King called for the cancellation of the Oscars, the revered author spoke out again on the matter, solidifying his stance on the topic. King previously declared that he won’t be voting in this year’s Oscars and called for the cancelation of the awards ceremony, joining the movement sparked by other prominent voices in the industry like Rosanna Arquette and Jean Smart. The 97th Academy Awards, which will be held on March 2, will celebrate the films of 2024, with frontrunners including Anora, Conclave, Dune: Part Two, The Brutalist, Emilia Pérez, A Complete Unknown, The Substance, and Wicked.

On King's Threads account, he doubled down on his recent comments. While he acknowledges the responses that defend the Oscars as a celebration of life, and he says that this makes a “degree of sense,” but he can’t help but describe the Academy’s decision to move on with the...
