Now that the new Naked Gun has been released, it reminded us of how great parody films can be (check out Bumbray’s review Here). I felt it was time to look at other films in the parody genre. Because, sure, everyone knows Airplane, Hot Shots, or Scary Movie, but there are plenty of others that are worth your time. From the financially unsuccessful to films that didn’t get a fair shake until decades later, it’s time that we run the gauntlet.

So let’s take a look at some of the most underrated Parody Films ever made.

Ironically, this film was actually just announced to be getting its own TV series and has always been amongst John Ritter’s best. Following a husband and wife as they’re sucked into their television sets, they must survive the twisted versions of the shows that they now find themselves in.

"The Simpsons" has surely featured the best guest stars of any TV show in history. Some of that is simply by virtue of having run for a full 36 seasons, but in the early years especially, the show had so much cachet as a cultural force that big-name stars simply couldn't stay away. Though there is one type of guest star "The Simpsons" has yet to land, the long-running series has hosted everyone from A-list actors such as Michelle Pfeiffer to musical icons such as Johnny Cash.

As such, Richard Dean Anderson of "MacGyver" and "Stargate Sg-1" fame might not seem like the most notable guest appearance. 20th Century Studios wants to welcome audiences back to the enchanted Night at the Museum franchise with a reimagining from Die Hart and Stuber writer Tripper Clancy. 21 Laps tapped Clancy for the gig, keeping plot details under wraps. While plot elements are scarce, Deadline says the Night at the Museum reimagining will feature a new story and all-new characters.

While specifics as to the plot are under wraps, the film is said to be a new story set at the museum with all-new characters. Shawn Levy and Dan Levine will produce for 21 Laps, with Emily Morris overseeing the project for the company.

A frequent collaborator of 21 Laps, Clancy has also worked with the company and Netflix as co-ep of the series I Am Not Okay With This, as well as in developing Bolivar, a hybrid TV series based on the beloved children’s book with Kumail Nanjiani and Emily Gordon.

Real hospitals experience turnover all the time; ask any real medical professional. People go elsewhere after they finish their residencies, or doctors migrate to become attending physicians — it's just part of the reality of the job. With that said, I'm not going to sit here and pretend that "Grey's Anatomy," the long-running medical drama created by Shonda Rhimes, is particularly medically accurate, because I'd like to think that bombs don't end up in body cavities all that often in real operating rooms and I really hope that fatality rates are lower amongst actual doctors than they are among the staff of the Seattle-based surgeons on this series ... because those doctors die a lot, and it's pretty alarming. This definitely doesn't stop "Grey's Anatomy" from being entertaining, and the show's outstanding ensemble cast is what makes it such a fun watch — and that definitely includes Sara Ramírez's extremely talented orthopedic surgeon Dr.

After beginning the season with a fake-out series finale and adding Disney+ exclusive episodes along the way, The Simpsons concludes its 36th season this Sunday on Fox with plenty of gas still left in the tank. Hank Azaria performed the voice of Apu, the Indian Kwik-e-Mart manager on The Simpsons, since the show started. But then a wider discussion started to take place about whether it was appropriate for white actors to voice characters of color.

This cumulated in a 2017 documentary, The Problem With Apu, by Indian comedian Hari Kondabolu. Kondabolu believed the portrayal of Apu was racist against South Asians and a lightning rod for bullying. Though The Simpsons pushed back against the accusation, going so far as to release an episode where the characters comment on how past works can be seen as "politically incorrect," Azaria announced in 2020 that he would not be playing Apu anymore.

Now, he's spoken about that decision on an episode of Pablo Torre Finds Out. It's been a long and interesting journey for Azaria, and one where he's explored how things previously seen as innocuous can become offensive later on.
