Now that the new Naked Gun has been released, it reminded us of how great parody films can be (check out Bumbray’s review Here). I felt it was time to look at other films in the parody genre. Because, sure, everyone knows Airplane, Hot Shots, or Scary Movie, but there are plenty of others that are worth your time. From the financially unsuccessful to films that didn’t get a fair shake until decades later, it’s time that we run the gauntlet.
So let’s take a look at some of the most underrated Parody Films ever made.
Stay Tuned (1992)
Ironically, this film was actually just announced to be getting its own TV series and has always been amongst John Ritter’s best. Following a husband and wife as they’re sucked into their television sets, they must survive the twisted versions of the shows that they now find themselves in.

"The Simpsons" has surely featured the best guest stars of any TV show in history. Some of that is simply by virtue of having run for a full 36 seasons, but in the early years especially, the show had so much cachet as a cultural force that big-name stars simply couldn't stay away. Though there is one type of guest star "The Simpsons" has yet to land, the long-running series has hosted everyone from A-list actors such as Michelle Pfeiffer to musical icons such as Johnny Cash.
As such, Richard Dean Anderson of "MacGyver" and "Stargate Sg-1" fame might not seem like the most notable guest appearance. But the actor's cameo on "The Simpsons" was about more than simply securing yet another celebrity to add to the long list of guest stars. As it happens, Anderson's "Sg-1" character, Colonel Jack O'Neill, is a big fan of the animated sitcom, to...

A well-known entertainer runs into financial difficulties. The IRS is coming for him. If he has an affinity for it, maybe he tries his luck on the open water. So goes the story of Krusty the Clown — though it shares some features with the story of Billy Joel, and we need to talk about them.
The relevant incident in Krusty’s life comes in Season Seven of The Simpsons. In the episode “Bart the Fink,” after Bart (voice of Nancy Cartwright) opens a checking account, he figures out that he can get an autograph from Krusty the Clown (Dan Castellaneta) if he sends Krusty a check and gets it back with Krusty’s endorsement. But Krusty doesn’t sign it: He stamps it to an offshore bank, and, long story short, Krusty turns out to be a massive income tax cheat. When the IRS starts seizing property — even turning Krusty Burger into IRS Burger,...

Earlier this month, Hulu announced that the upcoming “King of the Hill” revival will see Ronny Chieng take over the recurring guest role of Kahn Souphanousinphone from the show’s original run. The decision meant that the Asian character, previously one of several parts voiced by Toby Huss, would be voiced by an Asian performer for the first time.
Now, IndieWire can exclusively reveal five new guest stars for the show’s long-awaited 14th season, several of which are similar recastings of old recurring characters with actors of color. In addition, Keith David and Anthony “Citric” Campos have joined the series as new characters.
David will play new character Brian Robertson, who rented the house of main character Hank (series co-creator Mike Judge) in between the events of the show’s original seasons and the revival, and integrates into Hank’s friend group. Campos will play Emilio, a chef at...

Michael Mann’s filmography is filled with slick thrillers that feature stunning cityscapes and moody, synth-heavy soundtracks. Be it “The Insider” or “Manhunter,” he has proven his command over the medium with similar aesthetic choices. “Heat,” the 1995 thriller, remains one of his most compelling works. It is even more iconic because of its two leads – Robert De Niro and Al Pacino.
For both of their fans, it is an absolute treat to see them share the scenes. So, their restaurant conversation is one of the most memorable and cherished scenes in cinema history. While both actors are at the top of their game, the film is highly affecting because of its complex moral dilemma.

After rising to fame with his lovable role as Andy Dwyer on NBC's Parks and Recreation, Chris Pratt has since transitioned into a major Hollywood star, especially within the science fiction genre. He became widely recognized for portraying Star-Lord in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy and Owen Grady in the Jurassic World trilogy, both blockbuster sci-fi franchises.
Despite his early success, Pratt's more recent ventures into sci-fi movies have been met with less enthusiasm. The shift began with Passengers, a film criticized for its problematic plot. Instead of elevating his status in sci-fi, it marked the start of a disappointing trend. Pratt's attempts to recapture his blockbuster success with similar films have generally failed to resonate with critics and audiences alike.

Real hospitals experience turnover all the time; ask any real medical professional. People go elsewhere after they finish their residencies, or doctors migrate to become attending physicians — it's just part of the reality of the job. With that said, I'm not going to sit here and pretend that "Grey's Anatomy," the long-running medical drama created by Shonda Rhimes, is particularly medically accurate, because I'd like to think that bombs don't end up in body cavities all that often in real operating rooms and I really hope that fatality rates are lower amongst actual doctors than they are among the staff of the Seattle-based surgeons on this series ... because those doctors die a lot, and it's pretty alarming. This definitely doesn't stop "Grey's Anatomy" from being entertaining, and the show's outstanding ensemble cast is what makes it such a fun watch — and that definitely includes Sara Ramírez's extremely talented orthopedic surgeon Dr.

Ben Stiller and Hank Azaria Hilariously Call Back to ‘Along Came Polly’ Feud to Mark Summer Solstice
Today marks the summer solstice, and Hank Azaria wants to make sure his “Along Came Polly” co-star Ben Stiller knows all about it.
Earlier today, Azaria took to X to share photos of his hardly-dressed French “Along Came Polly” character Claude in honor of the solstice. Stiller, in response, was not happy as a hippo.
“Happy first day of summer… are you for scuba? ” Azaria’s post reads.
“No I am not.” Stiller jokingly replied. You can view Azaria’s initial Tweet below.

Owen Wilson’s ‘Stick’ is the newest addition to a lineup filled with chaos, charm, and underdogs you’ll root for.
I started “Stick” on a random weeknight, just looking for something light to throw on while making dinner — but halfway through the first episode, I hit pause. My wife needed to see this, too. So we started over together and ended up binging as many episodes as we could. It’s got real “Ted Lasso” vibes: heart, humor, and a lovable (and heartbreaking) lead in Owen Wilson. And honestly, it reminded me that when sports comedies are done right, they’re unbeatable. In that spirit, here are the seven best sports comedy TV shows streaming right now.

Despite what The Discourse™ may have you believe, there is superhero media that exists outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In fact, superheroes existed long before the MCU ever did. Shocking, we know.
In all seriousness, any true-blue superhero fan likely didn't begin their obsession with the MCU or even with Marvel, potentially. The world of metahumans extends far and wide, from comic book favorites like DC and Dark Horse to entirely original creations from other mediums. However, with the cultural omnipresence of the superhero blockbuster, it can often feel like the MCU is all there is, to the point that the phrase "superhero fatigue" was coined to describe folks' exhaustion with the genre.
To put it bluntly, superhero fatigue isn't really a thing, in the same way "comedy fatigue" or "horror fatigue" aren't a thing. People have loved superheroes for over a century and will continue to love them,...

If I say the name Joey Tribbiani today, everybody on Earth who was born before 2000 and owned a television immediately pictures Matt LeBlanc with his mischievous smile and jet-black hair, uttering some nonsense line or asking a beautiful girl how she's doing. And that's exactly how it should be. In retrospect, the NBC sitcom's casting was pitch-perfect, and one of the reasons "Friends" turned into the pop culture phenomenon it's been regarded as for decades. But even back in the '90s, before the show kicked off, up-and-coming actors knew the main roles in this series were golden opportunities to stand out and boost their careers — even if they hadn't suspected the monumental global impact the program would have on the comedy genre and broadcast television itself.

Because Matt Groening's animated sitcom "The Simpsons" has become such a ubiquitous part of popular culture, it often serves as a remix station for everything that happens to be floating through the mass consciousness. The makers of "The Simpsons" have always had a keen eye toward TV and film history, sometimes drawing from their own childhood experiences as media-overconsumers, and sometimes just because they pay attention to what's currently out there. The Simpsons themselves are also TV addicts, so it makes sense that TV shows of yore should occasionally leak into their everyday lives. It's as if a vital barrier between TV and reality had broken down on "The Simpsons," and classic TV had slowly become a part of their lives. This is no more evident than in the "Simpsons" Halloween specials, which put the characters in classic "Twilight Zone" episodes.

Popular comic actor Hank Azariapaid tribute 1998's Godzilla on the anniversary of its release, but his tribute was anything but flattering. As The Simpsonshas been on the air since the 1980s, the Matt Groening-created show's starring cast members have has their voices become synonymous with their characters. However, as there have been some characters getting recast on the show, some fans might be wondering if that might happen with one of the show's main cast members.

After beginning the season with a fake-out series finale and adding Disney+ exclusive episodes along the way, The Simpsons concludes its 36th season this Sunday on Fox with plenty of gas still left in the tank. After all, it was just weeks ago that a four-season renewal for the show was announced, which would bring the series to a nice, round 40 seasons. Could that landmark number be the point at which Springfield shuts its doors for good? Or are the Simpsons now legacy characters destined to run forever like their owner Mickey Mouse?
And, if The Simpsons does continue on, what of its cast? This past season, Pamela Hayden, the voice of Milhouse and other beloved characters, retired, making her the first original cast member to do so. Others wonder if, by the time Season 40 rolls around and there are 800 plus episodes in existence, there will be anything left for the show to say?...

It’s been four months since Zachary Quinto (American Horror Story) shed his scrubs and clocked out after the debut season of Brilliant Minds. Since then, fans of NBC’s newest medical procedural have been waiting on pins and needles for a reveal that will tell them whether the series will return as part of the network’s fall slate. It’s been tough on those who watched other newbies like St. Denis Medical and Happy’s Place landed their renewals at the start of the year, but we’ve finally got an answer today, as NBC has chosen to continue Quinto’s tenure as neurologist Oliver Wolf.
Initially introduced to audiences as part of NBC’s fall lineup for 2024, Brilliant Minds comes from Michael Grassi, who based much of the story on the very real life of neurologist Oliver Sacks and his non-fiction book series, The Man Who Mistook...

Season 36 of The Simpsons certainly hasn’t shied away from bringing back random characters that many viewers forgot all about during the Clinton administration. For example, the White Lotus parody episode “The Yellow Lotus” featured the return of sketchy salesman Nick Callahan. And the series premiere, “Bart’s Birthday,” was chock-full of cameos from decades-old minor characters like Larry Burns, the real Seymour Skinner, that guy with the big hand and even Homer’s coyote spirit guide/Guatemalan insanity pepper hallucination.
The show continued the trend with this week’s episode “Full Heart, Empty Pool,” which found Homer and Grampa inventing a brand new sport called “Noodleball.” The game, basically pickleball with pool noodles, is played in empty swimming pools. But once it takes off, Noodleball becomes a target for angry swimmers, one of whom points out that “even the very tall need a place to swim.”

Even after 36 years, The Simpsons is somehow still revealing new information about beloved characters we’ve known for decades. Like how we all just found out about Superintendent Chalmers’ seemingly insatiable libido. Well, this week’s episode uncovered more details of Moe Szyslak’s backstory, specifically, it shed some new light on his increasingly confusing genealogical history.
In “Abe League of Their Moe,” Moe is able to lure a wildly talented Macedonian baseball player to sign up to play for the Springfield Isotopes, beating out rival pitches from celebrities such as New York Mets fan Chris Rock and Danny Trejo, who’s working on behalf of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
How does this happen? Because Moe speaks Macedonian. The bartender reveals that he learned the language from his grandmother. This was back when he was an infant wearing a bread bag for a diaper, and she would accuse him of...

After more than 25 years, it truly feels like one of Ben Stiller's best films, "Mystery Men," could have been the band of underdogs that surpassed even the likes of "The Suicide Squad" or "Guardians of the Galaxy." Riffing on comic book superheroes before "Deadpool" made it cool, "Mystery Men" is adapted from a team of misfit heroes that debuted in "Flaming Carrot" #16 and showcases an array of comedic talent. These low-level and incredibly odd crimefighters consist of Mr. Furious (Ben Stiller), The Shoveller (William H. Macy), fork-throwing Blue Raja (Hank Azaria), the superhuman fart factory The Spleen (Paul Reubens), Invisible Boy, who can only disappear when no one is looking (Kel Mitchell), and The Bowler (Janeane Garofalo), whose weapon of choice is a bowling ball containing the skull of her late father.

It is now eight years since Hank Azaria stepped away from voicing his controversial The Simpsons character of Apu, but the conversation around why he stopped playing the character – and why he almost didn’t – continues to be a fascinating insight into the way racism is viewed and handled in the entertainment industry and by the public. Speaking on the Pablo Torre Finds Out podcast, the incredible actor, who continues to voice many characters on The Simpsons, explained that there are still people who don’t understand why he cannot voice Apu.
On the surface, there is a strange contradiction around depictions of race, gender, sexuality and pretty much anything that isn’t straight and white in the world. White actors cannot provide voices for Black, Asian, or Indian characters, but they can “put on” voices that mimic European accents without any push back. Straight actors playing queer roles are...

Hank Azaria performed the voice of Apu, the Indian Kwik-e-Mart manager on The Simpsons, since the show started. But then a wider discussion started to take place about whether it was appropriate for white actors to voice characters of color.
This cumulated in a 2017 documentary, The Problem With Apu, by Indian comedian Hari Kondabolu. Kondabolu believed the portrayal of Apu was racist against South Asians and a lightning rod for bullying. Though The Simpsons pushed back against the accusation, going so far as to release an episode where the characters comment on how past works can be seen as "politically incorrect," Azaria announced in 2020 that he would not be playing Apu anymore.
Now, he's spoken about that decision on an episode of Pablo Torre Finds Out. It's been a long and interesting journey for Azaria, and one where he's explored how things previously seen as innocuous can become offensive later on.

Marge Simpson’s (Julie Kavner) twin sisters Patty and Selma Bouvier (Kavner) have been a staple on The Simpsons for years. They are known for their dry humor, chain-smoking, and hatred towards Marge’s husband, Homer (Dan Castellaneta). In the past, the two never seemed to care too much about their appearance. However, now the twins are gaining some time in the spotlight for their weight loss transformation. Sunday’s (April 6) episode, titled, “The Last Man Expanding,” saw Patty and Selma, as well as another supporting character, all slimmer because of a popular weight loss drug. Comic Book Guy (Hank Azaria), who is known for wearing a blue t-shirt that is way too small for him, wore a smaller version of his shirt and red shorts, which fit him a lot better. He was seen carrying a “family-sized” version of the drug down a sidewalk with a big smile on his face.
