Rick Hurst, the actor known for playing Deputy Cletus Hogg on The Dukes of Hazzard, has died. He was 79.

According to the actor’s wife Candace Kaniecki, he died unexpectedly on Thursday in Los Angeles, TMZ reported. His cause of death was not immediately disclosed.

Hurst’s co-star Ben Jones, who played Cooter Davenport on the 1979-’85 CBS sitcom, announced his death on Facebook after Hurst was scheduled to appear at Cooter’s Place in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee next month.

“It doesn’t seem right that Rick Hurst passed away this afternoon. When something so unexpected happens, it is ‘harder to process,’ as the current expression goes,” he said in a statement. “I have known Rick for over 45 years and there wasn’t a minute of that time that he didn’t leave me smiling or laughing. Sure he was a professional comedian, but mostly he just had a heart as big as Texas.

Rick Hurst, who portrayed the good-hearted Deputy Cletus Hogg on the long-running CBS action comedy The Dukes of Hazzard, died Thursday. He was 79.

Hurst’s death was announced by the Cooter’s Place museum in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. He had just canceled a scheduled July 3-7 appearance there.

“To fans, he was more than a character — he was family,” reads a Dukes of Hazzard post on Instagram. “His gentle smile, impeccable comedic timing and kind-hearted spirit made every scene brighter.

“Offscreen, Rick was known for his generosity, humility and love for connecting with fans at events across the country. Whether it was a reunion special or a meet-and-greet at Cooter’s, he never stopped sharing his joy with the people who adored him.”

"The Dukes of Hazzard" was one of the biggest shows in the '70s, but where are the actors now? Did they all live to see old age? Sadly many of the show's main stars have since passed on, but their memory lives on in the timeless television series. The series centered around Bo and Luke Duke, played by John Schneider and Tom Wopat. They delivered vigilante justice for their county, protecting it from the corrupt political power-player, Boss Hogg. They are saddled with trying to save the Duke family farm from Hogg's grasp, which forces them to devise get-rich-quick schemes and lands them in various hijinks.

Many of the supporting actors were already middle-aged when the series aired, so sadly, Denver Pyle who played Jesse Duke, James Best who played Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane, Sorrell Booke who played Boss Hog, and Waylon Jennings who played The Balladeer have all since passed.

Never say never. Former Dukes of Hazzard stars John Schneider, Catherine Bach and Tom Wopat reunited with fellow castmates Byron Cherry, Jeff Altman and Rick Hurst at Gallatin Comic Con 2023 in Tennessee recently where talk of a possible reboot of the hit ’80s TV comedy series surfaced.

“As far as a Dukes reunion,” Bach teased in an interview with Fox News Digital, “anything is possible.”

Bach starred as Daisy Duke, Schneider as Bo Duke and Wopat as Luke Duke in the hit action-comedy-drama series that aired for seven seasons on CBS from 1979 to 1985. The series, inspired by the 1975 film Moonrunners about a bootlegger family, revolved around the adventures of cousins Bo and Luke, modern-day Robin Hoods who continually tried to outwit a corrupt sheriff and “greedy rich, city slickers.”

The series also was not without controversy due to images of the Confederate flag that had been used in the show.

The famous General Lee car from the 80s TV series The Dukes of Hazzard was left smashed in the wake of Hurricane Ida's destruction. At John Schneider Studios in Holden, Louisiana, one of the General Lees had been parked in the driveway where an uprooted tree had fallen on top of it. Publicist Brian Mayes posted an image of the car's destruction on Twitter, asking for prayers and support for Schneider.

The original stars of CBS’s popular series “Dukes of Hazzard” are speaking their mind about the recently renewed criticism of the show’s use of the Confederate flag.

John Schneider and Tom Wopat, who played Bo and Luke Duke in the series which ran from 1979 to 1985, addressed the controversial symbol of the Confederacy that is painted atop the show’s famous car, a Dodge Charger nicknamed the General Lee.

“I have never had an African American come up to me and have any problem with it whatsoever,” Schneider, 60, said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “The whole politically correct generation has gotten way out of hand.”

Wopat, 69, was more understanding of the current generation’s call to remove the flag from pop culture.

Michael Cimino could have done worse for his first directing gig — a big Clint Eastwood-Jeff Bridges buddy picture with guaranteed major attention. It’s a simple crime caper for simple audiences, and he pulls it off in style. The Sunday movie supplements celebrated Cimino as a great new talent. His picture still looks handsome and it runs like a Swiss watch — the writer-director even has his vulgar comedy down pat, giving bad guy George Kennedy a few memorable choice bits to play.

“Dukes of Hazzard” star Tom Wopat has been accused of sticking his finger between the butt cheeks of an actress working with him in a small-town production of “42nd Street,” according to a report.

The 65-year-old actor was rehearsing his show in Waltham, Mass., on July 23 when he walked behind the woman and committed the vile act, she told police, TMZ reported.

When confronted about the allegation, Wopat denied touching the woman and said, “F— them all,” the gossip site reported, citing a police report.

Wopat also was accused of wrapping his arm around another woman’s hip, pulling her toward him during rehearsals, the police report said.

And he also allegedly pulled sunburned skin off a woman’s arm during rehearsals, authorities said.

If there is one thing that America does well it’s the road movie, really it should be no surprise as they do have quite a few of them. From Vanishing Point to Easy Rider these movies tend to be iconic to their fans and share moments in movie history that are hard to forget. For me though one of the best has to be Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, a film where Clint Eastwood does what he does best and Jeff Bridges put on an Academy Award nominated performance as a young upstart who just wanted to be an old crooks friend.

Even though Eastwood is obviously the star of the movie it really comes alive with the first appearance of Lightfoot (Bridges) onto the screen, stealing a car in an easy grift.

22 Jump Street is in theaters this weekend, and its one of the few TV-to-Movie franchises that has gotten it right. This comes after so many have gotten it really wrong! Adapting a hit television show to the big screen seems like it would be an easy thing. The source material is great, there's an existing audience, it should be money in the bank. But bigger does not mean better. There's more than enough examples of great TV turned into garbage cinema. So much so, there was a fair amount of difficulty and debate narrowing it down to ten, epically awful movies. Criteria had to be established. There must be a method to this madness. Terrible films like The Smurfs, Scooby Doo, Yogi Bear, or The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas still has an appeal to younger audiences who might actually be entertained by it. It does have some value. "The Dukes of Hazzard" premiered 35 years ago, Jan. 26, 1979 on CBS and for the next seven seasons, John Schneider and Tom Wopat were drivin' and slidin' into our hearts -- plus, Catherine Bach, rowr. To celebrate its illustrious anniversary, here are our 1980s TV theme songs (non-animated, because that's a whole other category).

1. "The Dukes of Hazzard" -- It counts because it aired mostly in the '80s. And who doesn't love the golden pipes of Waylon Jennings?

2. "Growing Pains" -- What a great duet. Do you recognize the woman? It's Jennifer Warnes, of "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" fame.

3. "Perfect Strangers" -- This soaring number makes you feel like you can conquer the world right? Or at least leave your home in Mypos for the big city in America.

4. "Cheers" -- This is like comfort food in song form. They just don't make TV theme songs like they used to.

The King of police procedural dramas has returned. Jessica "Jess" King (Amy Price-Francis) proved in Season One of King that she has what it takes to lead Toronto's Major Crimes Task Force, taking down murderers, rapists, and drug traffickers. Things will get a bit more challenging for her in Season Two, however, with new team members to break in, crimes that hit a bit too close to home, and plenty of baby-daddy drama. Actress Catherine Bach created her own iconic Daisy Duke look for hit TV show The Dukes Of Hazzard because she didn't want to be seen as a Dolly Parton knock-off.

The sexy star has revealed she was far from happy with series creator Gy Waldron's vision for her character and begged him to let her style Daisy.

She tells Access Hollywood, "They gave me a poodle skirt with a little turtleneck (top) because the creator of the show... was in love with Dolly Parton and that was on her album cover.

"I'm like, 'Ok, I'm not gonna channel Dolly Parton.' I said, 'Please, can I have a chance to show you what I think she should look like.' And he said, 'Ok'. I came in the next day with different clothes and he said, 'Ok, we got a deal'."...

The Dukes Of Hazzard star Catherine Bach has credited grief therapy sessions for helping her get over the 2010 death of her lawyer husband Peter Lopez.

The actress, who created the iconic TV role of Daisy Duke for the longrunning 1980s TV hit, was left devastated when Lopez shot himself in the head in the backyard of the home he shared with his wife and two daughters.

And, as she returns to work on U.S. daytime soap The Young and the Restless, she admits counselling helped her get back to normal after the awful tragedy.

Speaking to next door neighbour and friend Billy Bush on U.S. news show Access Hollywood Live, Bach explains, "I pushed through it with the help of really good friends and church and therapy... I'm gonna use this moment to tell people out there who are having tough times to look in your area for grief therapy because you can find your way through the most terrible thing."

And Bach admits she still isn't 100 per cent convinced her husband simply took his own life: "There was nobody more stable than Peter. Something happened to this man... I'm sure it will come to light... I trusted him and I trusted his judgment."...

A popular hillbilly is coming to Genoa City!

EW has learned exclusively that a former star from CBS’ The Dukes of Hazzard will join The Young and the Restless beginning Feb. 7. And the actor is…Catherine Bach!

Best known for playing Daisy Duke, Bach will join the daytime sudser as Anita, the scheming mother of Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan). Her first day on the set is Jan. 10.

Bach appeared on Dukes from 1979-1985 and is best remembered for sporting those trademark high-cut jean shorts. Remember her Daisy Duke poster? It sold millions.

The new remake of The A-Team will put a modern spin on a popular television series of the eighties, bringing nostalgic feelings to old fans of the show while introducing a new generation to one of their fathers' favorites. The A-Team is just the latest in a very long line of classic TV shows that have received a big screen makeover.

The appeal of these small-screen-to-big-screen revamps is twofold.
