Infinity Festival, an event blending entertainment, technology and gaming, is returning to Hollywood for its eighth annual edition October 9-10.

This year’s edition will be based mainly at two key venues along L.A.’s fabled Museum Mile: the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures and the newly opened Sony Pictures Imageworks Mid-Wilshire campus. Two senior Imageworks execs, Cto Mike Ford and production chief Mandy Tankenson are returning as the festival’s co-chairs.

Deadline is presenting media sponsor of the festival. Presenting sponsors include tech firms Hp, Nvidia and Amd.

This year’s festival will also feature the Belgian Economic Mission under the Guardianship of Hrh Princess Astrid, Representative of His Majesty the King, as a special delegation. The princess will officially open the festival, joined by a delegation of 500 Belgian media, entertainment, sports and gaming industry leaders.

Scott Cooper’s Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere starring Jeremy Allen White will play as a Spotlight Gala in New York Film Festival (September 26-October 13) on September 28.

Not too long ago, I did a JoBlo Originals video on the 1994 Jeff Bridges/Tommy Lee Jones action flick Blown Away. In it, I mentioned that the movie had just been re-released by Kino Lorber on 4K Uhd—a cause for celebration. Or so I thought. Josh Brolin is currently starring as Archer Graff in the horror movie Weapons, which is receiving overwhelmingly positive reviews. Brolin’s performance in the movie received praise and reminded me of this mostly forgotten 15-year-old Western, starring the actor in a villainous role.

Hollywood is currently in love with legacy sequels that come decades after the original. What’s up with that?

We already knew Hollywood loved its sequels. Just look at how many Iron Mans, Nightmare On Elms Streets and Godzillas there are. We’re spoilt for choice when it comes to our favourite characters.

Especially now. Hollywood has fallen in love with a different kind of sequel; the legacy sequel or the – ready for this? – legasequel. These sequels come sometimes 20 or 30 years after their predecessor and try to recreate the magic all over again. Some succeed better than others. They’re designed to reboot a franchise as much as continue it, bringing it to the promised land of a new audience.

It’s hard to say which film specifically started the trend, but it’s certainly not a new phenomenon. Psycho got its sequel in the 80s, over 20 years after Alfred Hitchcock...

Disney briefly explored integrating advanced AI technology into two major upcoming live-action films—Moana and Tron: Ares—only to ultimately scrap both initiatives due to legal, creative, and ethical concerns.

Deepfake Idea for Moana

For the live-action Moana remake, Disney considered using AI to deepfake actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s face onto his cousin Tanoai Reed, who would serve as his body double.

Johnson wanted to reduce the days he needed to appear on set, and had approved the concept, but the complicated technology required extensive negotiations with AI partner Metaphysic. After approximately 18 months, Disney decided not to include any of the AI-generated footage in the final film.

AI is here to stay, but how it should and shouldn’t be used is still a subject of much debate, particularly in the entertainment industry. According to a report from the Wall Street Journal (via Deadline), Disney had considered some ambitious ideas for using AI on several upcoming projects, including Tron: Ares and the live-action Moana movie.

According to WSJ sources, Disney executives “pitched the idea of actually incorporating AI into one of the characters in the sequel to the 1980s hit movie Tron as a buzzy marketing strategy.” The character would have been a sidekick of Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), but the idea didn’t move forward because the executives were told “that the company couldn’t risk the bad publicity.“

When Disney started making the live-action version of “Moana,” they had an interesting idea about how to handle Dwayne Johnson’s role as Maui. Instead of having Johnson on set all the time, the studio planned to use his cousin, Tanoai Reed, as a body double for some scenes. Reed is also very muscular, standing 6-foot-3 and weighing 250 pounds, so he was a good fit for the job.

The plan was to use AI technology from a company called Metaphysic to create deepfake images of Johnson’s face that could be put over Reed’s performance. This digital double would let Johnson be “in two places at once,” making filming more flexible.

People familiar with the idea say executives thought it would be a cool way to market the movie, which is set to come out in October and is all about an AI soldier entering the real world.

The pitch was to bring back Bit, the small animated sidekick from the original “Tron” movie that starred Jeff Bridges. "Tron: Ares" should be the most hyped movie of 2025. It's the long awaited sequel to the cult classic "Tron: Legacy" and features new music by Nine Inch Nails. But the one thing that seems to suck the air out of the room anytime there's a new "Tron: Ares" trailer is the inclusion of Jared Leto as the titular Ares, a dangerous computer program who enters the real world. A big part of that comes down to the sexual misconduct allegations lobbied against Leto earlier this year, which the actor's team has denied.

However, even before such allegations came to light, Leto had burned a lot of the goodwill he amassed after his Oscar win for "Dallas Buyers Club" with his bizarre conduct in the name of method acting. He even freaked out the "Morbius" cast and crew by walking around with crutches and engaging in other forms of unsettling behavior...

Botched auditions in Hollywood — especially about beloved and extremely popular movies and TV shows — have become somewhat of an intriguing and sought-after lore over the years. So here's another one for those who can't get enough of them. "Outer Banks'" Madelyn Cline — who also popped up in the recent legacyquel of "I Know What You Did Last Summer," which we reviewed here — had the opportunity to appear alongside such acting legends as Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, and Josh Brolin, but she royally messed it up due to inexperience and nerves. Of course, I'm talking about the Coen Brothers' 2010 western "True Grit" — the second and more faithful adaptation of Charles Portis's 1968 novel of the same name — that earned no less than 10 Oscar nominations 15 years ago (it's somewhat outrageous it didn't get to win any of them).

Blow Out is a neo-noir mystery thriller film written and directed by Brian De Palma. The 1981 film follows Jack Terry, a sound engineer for a slasher film, who accidentally records evidence that proves that a seemingly ordinary accident is actually murder, and he soon finds himself hunted because of it.

A critically panned Ryan Reynolds action title is coming to streaming. Reynolds is now probably best known for playing the Marvel Comics character Deadpool in the X-Men film franchise and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, he has a number of prominent titles under his belt, including National Lampoon's Van Wilder, The Adam Project, and Pokémon Detective Pikachu.

Many Ryan Reynolds movies have found critical and commercial success. In fact, the star's movies have collectively made $7.99 billion at the box office so far. He also has 10 different titles on his resume that have been Certified Fresh by the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, including Mississippi Grind (91%), Buried (87%), Free Guy (80%), and Definitely, Maybe (71%).

However, not all of his releases have been well received, either by critics or at the box office. These include his 2011 superhero disappointment Green Lantern (which has 15% on Rotten Tomatoes and grossed $220 million against a reported budget of $200 million...

San Diego — Comic-Con 2025 showed that fan fervor is still running high at the annual five-day convention in San Diego, even when Marvel and DC aren’t taking up all the oxygen in the room. As major studios skipped this year’s outing, the con’s premiere venue was still lively and engaged crowds that cheered for breakout panels from 20th Century Studios’ “Predator: Badlands,” Amazon MGM’s “Project Hail Mary” and Disney’s “Tron: Ares” – proving that there is still genre fare outside of superhero movies to get the con’s most sought-after room hyped.

Indeed, as TheWrap previously reported, Comic-Con’s two biggest draws over the last two decades – Marvel and DC movies – opted to skip panels in the famed Hall H of the San Diego Convention Center this year. That didn’t seem to matter, as this reporter observed the 6,500-person room was frequently packed to capacity even...

Jared Leto appears to still be embracing his well-known method acting style, a practice that drew plenty of attention during his time on Suicide Squad. But this time around, and luckily for the Tron: Ares cast, Leto wasn't playing someone as menacing and disgusting as the Joker.

During the film’s San Diego Comic-Con panel, Leto’s co-star Jeff Bridges shared a humorous story about their time working together. In his usual laid-back drawl, Bridges remarked, “He’s one of those guys. Everyone has different methods and modes, man.”

The crowd laughed as Bridges continued with a light jab: “I didn’t want to offend him as a thespian, but I thought, ‘I wanted to have a certain intimacy with you. I know your name is Ares. Can I just call you Air?’ He said, ‘Yeah man! You can call me whatever you want!’ We had a great time.

The movie, which pits a small-town sheriff (Joaquin Phoenix) against his mayor (Pedro Pascal), set during the early days of the global pandemic, is fierce and raw. Considering this is from Aster, the director of “Midsommar,” “Hereditary” and “Beau is Afraid,” it is also confrontational and strange and deeply funny, with the action set at the precipice of the complete breakdown in communication that accompanied lockdown. (Indiewire called it “the first truly modern American Western.”)

And if you come out of “Eddington” looking for more offbeat westerns to watch, we’ve got seven that should fill that void nicely.

Paramount “Bad Company” (1972)

In the 1960s and 1970s, there was a slew of what were referred to as “acid westerns” – westerns that were set in the distant past but that embraced the counterculture of the period, including, of course, recreational drug use. (Hence the “acid” in “acid western.

In 2010's "True Grit" — one of the best Westerns of recent years — Matt Damon plays Texas Ranger Laboeuf, whose pursuit of murderer Tom Chaney (Josh Brolin) leads him to join forces with U.S. marshal Rooster Cogburn (Jeff Bridges). Laboeuf is a by-the-book lawman who also happens to be a bit of a windbag who likes the sound of his own voice. As such, I'm not sure Tommy Lee Jones would be all that flattered to learn he was a big part of the inspiration behind Damon's performance.

Back in 1995, Damon appeared alongside Jones in "The Good Old Boys," a TV movie that also marked Jones' directorial debut and which he co-wrote with J.T. Allen. The film was based on Elmer Kelton's 1978 novel of the same name, in which a West Texas man named Hewey Calloway witnesses his town developing rapidly, much to his distaste. He dreams of a...

"Avengers: Doomsday" is set to release in theaters on December 18, 2026. The cast of "The Fantastic Four: First Steps," "Thunderbolts*" and several returning faces from the "X-Men" films are uniting with many of the Avengers to face down the newest threat to the Marvel multiverse, Doctor Doom. The Marvel Cinematic Universe's former big two stars Chris Evans (Captain America) and Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man) are returning — only Rdj will not be playing Tony Stark, but Doom himself!

Beyond that, we don't know what the movie's story is or what comics it may pull from ... and it seems the filmmakers may not either!

It's easy to forget these days, but Taylor Swift is technically an actress. She's starred in a 2009 episode of "CSI," in "The Lorax," and even in the cinematic masterpiece that was 2019's "Cats." Perhaps most overlooked among her filmography is her small role in 2014's "The Giver," where she played the titular Giver's tragic daughter Rosemary. 

Rosemary, it's revealed, was once the dystopian community's designated Receiver of Memory. Like everyone else in this community, she grew up with her emotions and overall humanity suppressed. When she was thrown into the chaotic world of emotions that regular humans live through, she was too overwhelmed and asked to be Released. Like most capitalized verbs in a young adult story, "Released" is more unpleasant than it sounds: she essentially asked to be euthanized, and the town granted her request.

Jeff Bridges is opening up about working with Jared Leto for Tron: Ares.

The two Oscar-winning actors appeared alongside co-stars Greta Lee, Jodie Turner-Smith, Evan Peters, Gillian Anderson, Hasan Minhaj, Arturo Castro, and Cameron Monaghan to promote their new Disney movie at the 2025 Comic-Con International on Friday (July 25) held at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, Calif.

During their panel, Jeff revealed what it was like working with Jared, who is a known method actor, on the movie.

“He’s one of those guys. Everyone has different methods and modes man,” said Bridges to laughs during Tron: Ares’ laser-heavy presentation at San Diego Comic-Con Friday.

“I didn’t want to offend him as a thespo,” Bridges continued, addressing Leto, who is known as a method actor. “But I thought, ‘I wanted to have a certain intimacy with you. I know your name is Ares. Can I just call you Air?’ He said, ‘Yeah man! You can call me whatever you want!’ We had a great time.”

Leto, for his part, recalled the first scene he had with Bridges. “I just blurted out, ‘cut!’ Everyone was surprised, because I don’t often do that.

“Tron: Ares” blew the roof off of San Diego Comic-Con at its panel on Friday evening, with an eye-popping, ear-blasting laser-light show set to the pulsing original score by Nine Inch Nails. The panel also included two extended clips from the film, and ended with a Nin music video of the original song “As Alive as You Need Me to Be.”

Jeff Bridges and Jared Leto came to San Diego Comic-Con to promote the upcoming “Tron: Ares,” the third film in the sci-fi franchise, and as part of the presentation they treated the Hall H crowd to two clips featuring the iconic light cycles — plus a new music video from composer Trent Reznor’s Nine Inch Nails.

The footage shows Ares (Leto) and Athena (Jodie Turner-Smith) chasing Eve (Great Lee) in the film’s first light cycle chase that takes place in the real world. Eve manages to evade them and also manages to steal Athena’s light cycle in the process, much to her amazement.

In another clip, they previewed the immersive world of the grid in another chase sequence involving Ares and Eve trying to escape the grid into the transfer portal.

The final promo clip is the new music video for the film from Nine Inch Nails.

Like both of its predecessors, "Tron" and "Tron: Legacy," however, it appears that there are two very important elements driving "Tron: Ares" — its soundtrack and its neon-soaked visuals. Despite being snubbed for an Oscar nomination (because the Academy thought using a computer for visual effects was "cheating" back in 1982), "Tron" helped blow the lid off of what can be done in special effects and paved the way for more computer-generated imagery (CGI) in movies and TV. It only makes sense, then, that its sequels would also be visually stunning, and "Legacy" absolutely nailed the assignment back in 2010. So, what about "Ares"?
