'Wednesday' Season 2 Behind the Scenes, Costumes, Filming Locations, Sets
Image
Since it shattered records around the world with Season 1, Wednesday is no longer just a TV series; it’s a sensory universe in which every detail, big and small, matters in its chilling, tactile, and delightfully dark look and feel. With Tim Burton directing the series and creators Al Gough and Miles Millar back at the helm, you know that every costume, hairstyle, fireplace, and piece of zombie prosthetics was dreamed up with wicked inventiveness and with a keen eye to storytelling. They’re cranking up the volume on everything in Season 2 as our antihero Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) faces ever more sinister danger and uncovers shocking secrets at Nevermore Academy.

“Season 1 was a table-setter, and we saw a lot of the world, but there’s still a lot of the world left to see,” says Gough. In Season 2, Millar says, “We had a broader canvas and more toys...

Michelle Pfeiffer Turned Down One Of The Best Horror Movies Ever For A Sweet Reason
Image
Michelle Pfeiffer first worked with director Jonathan Demme on the 1988 crime comedy "Married to the Mob." Pfeiffer played Angela De Marco, a put-upon wife of a rising mobster played by Alec Baldwin. When he is killed, Angela has to find a way to live a normal life away from New York's gangland. It proves to be difficult: Every time she thinks she's out, they pull her back in. Demme was impressed with Pfeiffer's performance, and immediately wanted her to star in his next directorial project, an adaptation of Thomas Harris' 1988 airport novel "The Silence of the Lambs."

As we know all know, Demme ended up making "The Silence of the Lambs" with Jodie Foster. "Lambs" tells the story of an FBI rookie named Clarice (Foster) who seeks the aid of an incarcerated cannibal serial killer named Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins) to capture another serial killer (Ted Levine) who is still at large.

Who Plays Wednesday's Grandmama Hester? Explaining Joanna Lumley's Place in Addams Family Tree
Image
Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) has taken down a Hyde, unraveled a generations-long conspiracy, and even traversed the dangerous hairpin turns of teenage friendship (terrifying!). Yet in Wednesday Season 2, the titular sleuth finds a “thorn in her side” even she didn’t expect: her mother, Morticia Addams (Catherine Zeta-Jones). Zeta-Jones tells Tudum, “Morticia and Wednesday’s relationship lends itself to times of separation.”

But there will be no absence to make the heart grow fonder in the new episodes of the fantasy drama. In Season 2, Morticia and her husband Gomez (Luis Guzmán) move onto the grounds of Nevermore Academy as Morticia becomes the chairperson of the school’s fundraising committee. Now Wednesday’s parents are no longer a crystal ball phone call away — they’re tangoing right in her backyard. Morticia’s new gig allowed the Wednesdayteam (including director and executive producer Tim Burton and co-creators Miles Millar and Alfred Gough...

‘Wednesday’ Season 2 Featurette Goes Inside Tim Burton’s Stop-Motion Sequence
Tim Burton
Tim Burton returned to his stop-motion roots in the Season 2 premiere of “Wednesday” with The Tale of the Skull Tree.

A new featurette exploring the sequence can be seen below, along with the animated tale itself, about an ambitious boy who creates a mechanical heart to save his own live.

“I really enjoyed every day with it, because it was fun and creative,” says Burton. “Seeing these puppets come to life, there’s just something very magical about it.”

“Wednesday” Season 2 Part 1 is now streaming on Netflix, with Part 2 to follow on September 3.

Jenna Ortega stars as Wednesday Addams, who must navigate family, friends and old adversaries, propelling her into another year of delightfully dark and kooky mayhem. Armed with her signature razor-sharp wit and deadpan charm, Wednesday is also plunged into a new bone-chilling supernatural mystery.

Emma Myers, Steve Buscemi, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzman, Isaac Ordonez, Joy Sunday, Billie Piper,...

Watch: Director Tim Burton Geeks Out Inside the Video Club in Paris
Image
"All monsters have an emotional core to them... They are the most human characters in the movie!" He's right! The latest iconic filmmaker to visit the iconic Video Club in Paris is Tim Burton, the macabre master & cinematic genius who has been bringing us incredible stories for nearly 5 decades. Burton stopped by the video store in Paris to record a video for Konbini in promotion of the release of Wednesday - Season 2 on Netflix, which is now streaming as of this week. (He also made an animated short film which you can watch here.) This is one of my favorite Video Club videos yet - Burton seems like such a jolly, geeky film nerd who is having the time of his life talking about movies in this place. He brings up a few of his all-time favorites: Ishirō Honda's The War of the Gargantuas, Mario Bava's Black Sunday, and...

‘Wednesday’ Season 2 Scene Took Eight Months of Moving Puppets Frame by Frame
Image
In the season premiere of Wednesday season two, director Tim Burton returned to his stop-motion animation roots for a visually stunning flashback sequence that took eight months to complete.

The 90-second black-and-white sequence tells the tale of an ill-fated Nevermore Academy student. The character — who bears some resemblance to Burton — is a young genius who designs a clockwork heart to replace his own fragile one but is then destroyed by one of his own inventions.

The style of the sequence resembles Burton’s 1982 animated short Vincent (below), which he made while working as a Disney animator, as well as his later feature-length animated work such as The Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride.

“I loved it,” Burton tells The Hollywood Reporter of the sequence. “This is the kind of a show where we get to play around with things, and that was special to me. In fact, kind of went...

James Gunn debunks major DC rumor about The Batman Part II
Image
Could The Batman II be adding the second half of the Dynamic Duo? The sequel could introduce a key Batman character if one report turns out to be true.

The Batman was a monster hit in 2022 as Matt Reeves brought a fresh take to the Caped Crusader. Robert Pattinson played Bruce Wayne and his masked alter ego in a tale focusing on a flawed and troubled Dark Knight protecting Gotham from threats like The Riddler (Paul Dano). It all culminated in a massive flooding of Gotham City.

The story was expanded on in the HBO drama The Penguin with Colin Farrell reprising his film role as the crime boss. That ended with a hint of Batman returning. Work on the sequel has been delayed by various factors, such as the 2023 Hollywood strikes, with the current release date set for October 1, 2027.

Not much is known about the film so far aside...

Tim Burton And The Rock Band Sparks Almost Made A Movie Of A Famed Manga Series
Image
Although they had already scored many hits over the years, the rock band Sparks enjoyed a massive visibility increase in 2021 with the release of Edgar Wright's "The Sparks Brothers," a documentary about their decades-long career and prolific output. Brothers Ron and Russell Mael have been performing together under the banner of Sparks since 1972 and have, as of 2025, released 26 original studio albums. Those familiar with the band can tell you about their unabashed quirkiness. Sparks is whimsical, often humorous, and frequently employs puns and jokes in their music. One of their albums is called "Kimono My House." Another is titled "Angst in My Pants." The stern and strange Ron writes the music, while the charming and handsome Russel sings. They're still touring, and both brothers are in their late 70s.

For decades, Sparks possessed filmmaking ambitions and was eager to write a movie musical. They finally got their wish in 2021 with the release of "Annette,...

What’s Next for Wednesday? Jenna Ortega and Emma Myers Leave Fans Guessing About Season 3
Image
Jenna Ortega and Emma Myers welcome you back to the macabre world of Wednesday. Season 2, Part 1 just dropped on Netflix, with four episodes of gothic-filled adventures. Having saved Nevermore Academy from a woeful fate, Wednesday and Enid are facing a myriad of darker and more complex challenges.

Ortega and Myers sit down and reminisce over their days of shooting all over Ireland. Launching questions back and forth, they also discuss their opinions on the show’s future. Regarding season 3, Ortega had this to say about the Addams Family (via Tudum):

I would like to see the Addams family dealing with a bit less conflict. They’re a happy family. In Season 1 we saw a lot of Wednesday versus Morticia. And then in Season 2, Morticia versus Hester. I would love for them to just be the happy, disgusting, off-putting family that we know and love for a bit.

Wednesday Season 2 Gives A Tim Burton Alum A Standout Guest Starring Role
Image
This post contains spoilers for "Edward Scissorhands" and "Wednesday" season 2.

Tim Burton's distinctive vision defines Netflix's "Wednesday," which is back with a two-part second season that promises to double the Gothic mysteries offered by the first one. Sure enough, Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) is pulled into a mysterious case as soon as she returns to Nevermore Academy, which serves as the perfect site for ooky-spooky monsters (and the odd stalker) to come out and play. Season 2 leans into Burton's aesthetic blueprint to create its own visual identity, which comes to life through muted yet colorful palettes, macabre Gothic architecture, and Wednesday's gloomy presence (which both contrasts and complements her surroundings).

But Burton's vision encapsulates much more than the world we see onscreen, as it also includes socially accepted characters that vehemently oppose those who exist along societal fringes. The Normies introduced in season 1 are a good example of this,...

Wednesday Soundtrack: Every Song Featured In The Netflix Series
Image
Soundtracks in Netflix’s Wednesday aren’t just background noises, but they help shape major scenes, carrying on the morbid, mischievous, and stylishly gothic tale ahead. So while we cannot wait to hear what songs the second season of the show will have, here is a comprehensive list of every original track and every licensed song featured in Season 1 of the Netflix show, from classical pieces to modern pop and rock.

Wednesday, created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar and produced under the direction of Tim Burton, is a stylish supernatural mystery series starring Jenna Ortega as the darkly brilliant Wednesday Addams. With Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia, Luis Guzmán as Gomez, Gwendoline Christie as Larissa Weems, and Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester, the show follows Ortega’s character as she navigates psychic visions, high school politics, and monster hunts at Nevermore Academy.

The first season of the series contains several...

Pee-wee’s Bike Debuts at the Alamo on 40th Anniversary of ‘Big Adventure’
Image
Pee-wee’s Big Adventure fans can now feel like a loner and a rebel as a notable film prop makes it public debut at the Alamo.

The original screen-used stunt bicycle from director Tim Burton’s popular comedy was unveiled Saturday at the historic fort in San Antonio, Texas. The bike’s debut took place on the 40th anniversary of Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, which Warner Bros. released in theaters Aug. 9, 1985.

This bike, which the Alamo acquired earlier this summer, is central to the plot of the Paul Reubens-starring movie, in which the comedian’s character, Pee-wee Herman, sets out on a journey to track down his stolen red-and-white Schwinn that leads him to the Alamo. Pee-wee’s Big Adventure collected $40 million ($122 million today) and became a cult classic that spawned two sequels. People reported in May that the bike sold at auction for $125,000.

Pee-wee’s bike will be on view inside...

With Superman, DC Has Its First Undisputed Victory Against Marvel In 17 Years
Image
As we reach the final weeks of the 2025 summer movie season, let's take a look at the current state of the comic book movie genre. What was once the most reliable cash cow for Hollywood throughout the 2010s has since cratered in box office returns. Sure, Marvel Studios had at least two $1 billion hits this decade, with "Spider-Man: No Way Home" and "Deadpool and Wolverine," and DC's "The Batman" was a critical and commercial success. But otherwise, the genre has fallen considerably from its peak.

That said, 2025 has arguably been the best summer of comic book films in several years. Marvel Studios kicked off the summer with "Thunderbolts," which proved to be one of its better post-Phase 3 Marvel Cinematic Universe. "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" finally gave us a quality film adaptation featuring Marvel's First Family. Unfortunately, despite these two films undoubtedly being some of the best that Marvel has...

This Wednesday Season 2 Premiere Scene Gives Jenna Ortega Her Best Moment Yet
Image
This article contains minor spoilers for "Wednesday" season 2.

The Addams Family, as created by cartoonist Charles Addams, are characters whose malleability are built into their design. Not the malleability of the characters themselves, mind you, but rather their environment. The core of "The Addams Family" involves seeing these macabre, spooky, kooky people being put into places and situations of extreme normalcy, the better for them to comment on and satirize their surroundings. In addition to the commentary and comedy that springs from the juxtaposition, the Addamses exist as a perennial symbol for non-conformity. In no uncertain terms, they always let their freak flag fly.

This is why, 87 years after Addams created the characters, the Family continues to have longevity and popularity. The latest live-action iteration of the Family, Netflix's "Wednesday," sees creators Alfred Gough & Miles Millar, along with filmmaker Tim Burton, subvert the "Addams Family" formula in a way...

Tim Burton Nearly Directed This Martin Scorsese Classic
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

There is a pecking order in Hollywood that determines which actors and directors get first crack at the hottest material in town. When agents and managers (relying on the perspicacity of their underpaid assistants and readers) come across a script that could be a launching pad for a billion-dollar franchise or an awards season thoroughbred, they fire that sucker off to their top client (even if they're not exactly right for the lead role). This is how you get Tom Cruise embarrassing himself in "Far and Away" with the worst Irish accent you'll ever hear outside of a community theater production of "The Plough and the Stars" (and even then).

But every A-list screenwriter's gotta start somewhere, and if you find yourself in a fertile creative environment that hasn't been completely overrun with apex industry predators, you might uncover a...

‘Wednesday’ Star Hunter Doohan on Killing [Spoiler] and Why Missing Lady Gaga on Set Felt Like a ‘Hate Crime’: ‘I’m the One Gay Guy on the Show!’
Image
Spoiler Alert: This story contains major spoilers from “Wednesday” Season 2, Part 1, now streaming on Netflix.

Hunter Doohan would like to report a “hate crime.”

The actor, who plays Tyler/Hyde on Netflix’s hit series “Wednesday,” says he missed Lady Gaga when she filmed her guest spot on Season 2. “I’m the one gay guy on the show, and I didn’t get to meet Gaga,” Doohan tells me in the latest episode of the “Just for Variety” podcast.

Feigning outrage, he says, “This is bullshit.”

But he did get to meet Christina Ricci’s son when they shot their deadly Willow Hill Psychiatric Hospital scene. “I think he was disappointed that it was me and not Jenna [Ortega],” Doohan cracks.

There are many twists and turns throughout Season 2, Part 1. The last episode not only features Tyler transforming into the Hyde and shockingly killing his master Marilyn (Ricci), but he...

Beetlejuice Conjures Up a Haunting New Figure From Trick or Treat Studios
Image
Tim Burton returned to the small screen this past week with Wednesday Season 2. However, in terms of the director's gothic list of films, one of the most beloved projects in his macabre backlog is Beetlejuice. The Ghost With the Most, played by Michael Keaton, has been a horror icon since 1988. Even more so since the long-awaited sequel was released last year. Now, as fans wait for a definitive answer on a third film, Beetlejuice returns with a new figure from Trick or Treat Studios.

Trick or Treat's 1:6th scale statue is Beetlejuice in his iconic black-and-white striped suit that was seen in both films. This is just a prototype at the moment which was previously shown off at Toy Fair 2025. However, that said, the likeness to Keaton's ghoulish complexion is definitely there. There's no pre-order information or a release window yet, so Beetlejuice fans are going to...

‘Superman’ and ‘Fantastic Four’: How Hollywood Finally Pulled Off Comic Book Camp
Image
Summer 2025 was always going to be a critical season for superhero cinema. Fans and critics alike knew that the fate of Warner Brothers’ DC Studios depended on the success of James Gunn’s “Superman” and that “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” would launch Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the franchise saw wilting box office returns across Phases Four and Five. Fortunately, both movies garnered fan appreciation and performed respectably at the box office.

The films could owe their successes to solid scripts, iconic characters and ubiquitous marketing. However, they also share a distinct quality that has evaded comic book adaptations over the past couple of decades. Both “Superman” and “Fantastic Four: First Steps” feel like… comic books.

Comic books are, of course, a broad medium that can vary from the action packed to the avant garde. They also offer bright colors, quippish dialogue, and cartoonish superheroes showcasing...

Having played in theaters worldwide for just a week, Paramount's comedy reboot The Naked Gunis inching towards its first global box office milestone. The movie has already passed the $30 million mark, and will likely cross the $50 million milestone this weekend. Wednesday 2: Slurp’s Origin & Connection With Augustus Stonehearst, Explained
Image
The first part of the second season of Wednesday has ended on a major cliffhanger following the Willow Hill asylum chaos, with Wednesday out of commission and two monsters—Tyler the Hyde and, most importantly, Slurp the zombie—on the loose. Slurp is an original, series-exclusive character who perfectly fits Tim Burton’s macabre gothic vision, and from the way his presence in the story is highlighted through several narrative connections in the past and present, it is obvious that he will have a much more significant role to play in the final part of the second season. I would like to share my speculation about Slurp’s ties with the existing Outcast crisis and how the connection can shape a new threat in the final part of the season.

Spoilers Ahead

Origin of Slurp

Slurp’s past is beautifully showcased in the very first episode of the ongoing season of Wednesday,...

Tim Burton's 'Corpse Bride' Gets a Stunning Monster High Doll for Its 20th Anniversary
Image
Tim Burton has made a ton of memorable horror films over the years, like Beetlejuice and Frankenweenie. However, one of the director's most beloved works of the 21st century has been Corpse Bride. The stop-motion animated gothic romance is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Now, Monster High has joined the party with a new doll based on Corpse Bride.

A part of their Skullector Doll series, Mattel’s latest Monster High addition is the Corpse Bride herself, Emily. The figure comes with a spiderweb mesh and silky blue bridal gown and the 10.5-inch scale piece has 11 points of articulation. It's also the first sculpt from Monster High that features a skeletal arm, leg, and rip cage. As Mattel put it:

“We’re celebrating the 20th anniversary of Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride with a supernaturally stunning Emily doll that fans of the film will be dying to add to their skullection.

KPop Demon Hunters May’ve Hid an Alice in Wonderland Tribute in Plain Sight
Image
Netflix‘s breakout animated hit KPop Demon Hunters may contain a hidden tribute to Alice in Wonderland. Yumyan, aka the Derpy Tiger, the feline companion of Jinu, shares several striking similarities with Cheshire Cat from Tim Burton’s 2010 movie Alice in Wonderland. The parallels suggest that the character may be a subtle homage to Lewis Carroll’s world of Wonderland.

Like Cheshire Cat, Derpy is a large, non-verbal, feline creature. It was initially aligned with the antagonist side, but later reveals a loyal side. In Alice, the Cheshire Cat is a beast controlled by the Red Queen. After Alice shows kindness, she becomes an ally. Similarly, Derpy is introduced as a courier working for Jinu, the leader of the demon boy group Saja Boys.

He is dim-witted but fiercely loyal. In one scene, he offers Rumi’s bracelet to his master Jinu and tries to remind him of his humanity...

It’s well known that the horror genre has a thing for tall women in recent years - Lady Dimitrescu, anyone - but the very first larger than life woman to frighten audiences on the Silver Screen is getting a face lift which might very well redefine the movie’s legacy. Not only is director Tim Burton adding his own unique imprint on the film. Suicide Squad and Barbie Star Margot Robbie is reportedly in talks to produce, and possibly star in, the upcoming Remake of the 50s cult classic Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman, which could be key to redefining the film's murky legacy.

Announced in February, Burton’s remake is neither the first, nor even the first proposed, remake of Attack. Released in 1958 by Warner Brothers, Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman grossed enough in the box offices that, although a sequel was never produced, remakes were...

‘Wednesday’ Season 2 Carves Out a Darker, Deeper Nevermore
Image
“Wednesday” has returned to dish out another dose of deliciously dark gothic charm. The storyline stretches its slithery tendrils into new territory that has its title character, embodied by Jenna Ortega, face foes old and new (and family) to uncover the latest supernatural mystery endangering Nevermore Academy. What it meant for production designer Mark Scruton and his team, which included designer Philip Murphy, was to expand familiar visual haunts with surprising new twists.

One of those twists, at least from a production standpoint, was shooting the season in an entirely different country. Romania was swapped for Ireland, with Ashford Studios stepping in for the stage work and areas of Dublin, Wicklow, and Offaly for practical backdrops. But fear not, Nevermore still oozes its signature moody trappings — labyrinthine corridors, eerie stained glass, and foreboding woods — but now there are fresh corners of the school revealed, which echo the gear-turning soul of the Industrial Age.

Every Wednesday Season 2 Question The First Four Episodes Leave Unanswered
Image
This article contains spoilers for season 2 of "Wednesday."

The second season of Netflix's "Wednesday" is a pleasant surprise. Not only does it bring back so many of the strongest elements of the successful first season — chief among them Jenna Ortega's superlative performance as Wednesday Addams — it also jettisons the aspects about that season that weren't working, replacing them instead with more delightfully tried and true elements. The series is now much more of an "Addams Family" show, with the entire clan more present. It also allows director Tim Burton to infuse more of his signature touches on the series, including a neat stop-motion animation sequence and a perfect blend of humor and horror.

Another noticeable change to the show is how it shifts focus a little bit more toward an episodic rather than serialized structure. Where the first season was written and paced in a similar fashion to...

“Run away, get divorced”: Emma Myers’ Dating Life and Relationship Advice
Image
Netflix’s Wednesday Season 2 finally claws its way onto Netflix after nearly three years of fan anticipation. Emma Myers, best known for playing Enid Sinclair, the technicolor contrast to Jenna Ortega’s deadpan Wednesday, reminded everyone that she’s not just a fictional best friend. She’s got a sharp mind, blunt opinions, and a very real take on love. First, the big one: if your partner has a “work wife” or “work husband”? Myers said don’t just walk

Run away. Get divorced. Don’t look back. That is awful. That’s cheating.

With the verbal impact of a Molotov cocktail thrown into a toxic office romance, Myers draws a hard boundary around emotional exclusivity. But that’s not her only red flag. If you’re dating in chaos or toxicity? She’s out.

That’s pretty toxic. I would not want to be working somewhere where it blew up first day…...

‘Pee-wee’s Big Adventure’ at 40: Tim Burton and More on Paul Reubens, Ditched Sequels, and Creating a Pop Culture Classic
Image
It’s been 40 years since Pee-wee Herman lost his bike, and to be honest, we’re still not over it.

Released in August 1985, “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure” not only introduced audiences at large to Paul Reubens’ wild comic creation, it also welcomed us into the heightened world of Tim Burton. Then just an animator with a couple of credits under his belt, Burton was personally picked by Reubens to bring Pee-wee’s living-cartoon aesthetic to life on screen.

Turns out, it was a match made in heaven. Together, they sent viewers on a rip-roaring road trip following Reubens’ grey-suit-and-red-bowtie-loving manchild as he hitchhiked across America to find his beloved stolen bicycle. With Pee-wee’s unpredictability and Burton’s eye for detail, “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure” defied expectations and more than tripled its $7million budget. What’s more, it propelled the duo to household-name status.

Four decades on, a lot has changed. Reubens returned for a Burton-less sequel,...

One Wednesday Theory Flips the Entire Addams Family Lore on Its Goth Little Head
Image
What if the Addams family has been hiding a bigger secret all along? What if they really are a secret coven and Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) is meant to be their next High Priestess? Well, this theory definitely stands if we take a closer look at Wednesday herself. She is the clearest sign of this hidden legacy.

Her psychic visions, her instinctive pull toward dark forces, and her sharp sense for danger all feel like traits of someone stepping into a leadership role. If this theory proves true, the Addams family would be more than just eerie and mysterious. They would be the guardians of a hidden magical coven.
