2025 has been one of the weaker years for the film industry as high-budget films like Captain America: Brave New World and Snow White have failed at both impressing the audience and at the box office. This Underrated Sci-Fi On Netflix Starring Emma Stone Is Gaining Attention Again! (Photo Credit – Netflix)
Netflix quietly dropped Maniac back in 2018, and while it did not make much noise at the time, it is now enjoying a second life. Some viewers are circling back, realizing they may have overlooked one of the platform’s more curious and clever sci-fi offerings.
The show arrived with names like Emma Stone and Jonah Hill leading the way, which should have been enough to grab attention. But Maniac, with its ten-episode arc, did not climb the trending charts or get a second season. That was not a surprise, though, since the creators never planned for more. It stood alone, slipping past many people who were probably caught up in bigger, flashier releases.

Warning: contains spoilers for Prime Video’s 2025 adaptation of War of the Worlds.
Last week, Prime Video dropped its new straight-to-streaming take on War of the Worlds. H.G. Wells’ original novel was published in 1898, which means it’s in the public domain, and contemporary artists can do whatever they want with the source material. Apparently, that includes turning it into dogshit.
If you’ve somehow missed the novel and its many adaptations — including a recent series that ran for three seasons and starred Gabriel Byrne, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Elizabeth McGovern, but which hid from us all on the usually forgotten premium movie network Epix — War of the Worlds is about a terrestrial invasion by aliens from Mars, who feed on human blood. The novel is a first-person narrative, and thus lent itself to Orson Welles’ interpretation. In his 1938 radio play, a broadcaster reports on the invasion beat by beat,...

Josh Duhamel (Ransom Canyon) and Jeremy Ray Taylor (It) are lying low in a brand-new image from the pair’s upcoming action comedy feature, London Calling. Joining some other great titles as part of Collider’s Exclusive Preview event that’s kicking off the upcoming fall slate, the image teases a taste of the action (and style) that audiences can expect to see from Allan Ungar’s (Bandit) latest project, which is set to crash into cinemas on September 19. With supporting performances from Rick Hoffman (Suits) and Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones), the movie will see Duhamel’s struggling hitman on the most high-stakes mission of his life as he babysits the son of his new boss and is tasked with teaching him the ropes of the industry.

All hell breaks loose when Arnold Schwarzenegger battles the ultimate evil in the supernatural action/thriller, End Of Days. When burned-out former New York City cop Jericho Cane (Schwarzenegger) is assigned to security detail for a mysterious stranger, he thwarts an assassination attempt.

Odell draws on more than 200 interviews with people who know or have worked with Paltrow. Notably, Paltrow herself did not participate in the interviews.
Variety has reached out to Paltrow’s rep for comment.

The Usual Suspects isn’t just a crime thriller—it’s a twisted mind game that still leaves viewers gasping even 30 years later. Directed by Bryan Singer and written by Christopher McQuarrie, this 1995 neo-noir film is packed with mystery, mind-bending storytelling, and one of the greatest plot twists in movie history.
You think you know exactly what’s going on, until you don’t. The story follows five criminals brought together for a police lineup. But what starts as a simple heist turns into something much deeper, darker, and more confusing, especially when a mythical crime lord named Keyser Söze enters the picture.
The film unfolds through the narrative of Roger “Verbal” Kint, played by Kevin Spacey in an Oscar-winning performance. As his character recounts the events leading up to a fiery massacre on a boat, the audience—just like the detective questioning him—is forced to piece together the puzzle.

Four Letters of Love is a strange one. In one respect, that is by design. The film, based on the novel of the same name by Irish author Niall Williams, plays in the metaphysical sphere, dabbling in the age-old idea of fated love. His fated pair are Nicholas Coughlan (Fionn O’Shea) and Isobel Gore (Ann Skelly), two young Irish people whose entire lives have been leading up to the moment of them finding each other and acting on their kismet chemistry.

Meanwhile, in another town, Isobel’s carefree life is undone by her brother Sean suffering a stroke. Unable to cope, their parents, Margaret (Helena Bonham Carter) and Muiris (Gabriel Byrne), send Isobel to a Catholic reform school,...

Adapted by Niall Williams from his book of the same name, the quaint British romantic drama Four Letters of Love has finally made its debut in UK and Ireland theaters, officially releasing last Friday, July 18. Directed by Polly Steele with cinematography by Damien Elliott, the film stars a host of iconic British actors, led by a pair of famous faces from arguably the UK's two biggest movie franchises.
First is Helena Bonham Carter, best known for portraying the twisted Bellatrix Lestrange in the Harry Potterfranchise, who plays the role of Margaret Gore. She is joined in the headline ensemble slot by Pierce Brosnan, most famous for playing Agent 007 James Bond, starting in 1995’s Goldeneye. The two are joined in the ensemble by the likes of Golden Globe winner Gabriel Byrne, the young actress Ann Skelly, Fionn O'Shea, Father Tedstar Pat Shortt, and more.

By the Academy’s definition, an adapted screenplay can stem from any source material crossing into another medium. That includes not just literary works but also sequels, remakes, and even spiritual continuations. Yet, despite this broad creative leeway, it is book adaptations that often turn out to be the trickiest. Cinema born from literature has historically found itself under scrutiny because of one lingering debate: should a film be judged by how it reimagines the text, or on its own standalone merit?
It’s a dilemma Wes Anderson essentially bulldozed with his 2023 series of Roald Dahl shorts—quirky, self-contained fables that wore their theatricality like armor. Four Letters of Love positions itself as a soulful drama steeped in the traditions of Irish romance, yet its appeal is calibrated for a global palate. Set in a version of 1970s Ireland, the film presents two parallel lives seemingly guided by cosmic will.
We follow Nicholas Coughlan, a boy left behind when his father abruptly abandons a civil service job in Dublin, convinced by a sliver of sunlight that his true calling is to be a painter. Simultaneously, on a remote island off the west coast, the idyllic childhood of Isabel Gore is fractured by a family tragedy that sends her down a difficult path.
The narrative is built not on chance, but on the certainty of fate. Director Polly Steele frames this story as a modern fairytale, a sweeping, heartfelt exploration of love and divine intervention set against a mythic landscape. Its unabashedly romantic and poetic spirit is...

Helena Bonham Carter, Gabriel Byrne and Pierce Brosnan feature in sugary story of destiny and dreams, which brings together two troubled young people and a prize painting
Niall Williams has adapted his own international bestseller for this slushy romantic drama set in the west of Ireland, about love and destiny and dreams never given up on. For me, it pushed the bounds of absurdity and melodrama one step too far, though it undoubtedly has an audience. Something here reminded me of the romdram hits of author Nicholas Sparks, and particularly Message in a Bottle – although to be fair it should be borne in mind that Williams published his novel a year before Sparks’ book came out.
Two young lives unfold in parallel, fated to be brought together. Fionn O’Shea is Nicholas Coughlan, whose civil-servant dad William (Pierce Brosnan) has an epiphany at work one day when a lozenge of sunlight...

Warner Bros.’ “Superman” debuted atop the U.K. and Ireland box office with £6.9 million ($9.4 million), according to Comscore.
The James Gunn-directed reboot, starring David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, was below the $15 million opening enjoyed by predecessor “Man of Steel.” The ongoing heatwave conditions in the region appear to be keeping audiences outdoors, choosing sun over cinema, as evidenced by the drop in blockbuster collections, which experienced a decline of 35% week-on-week. The massive popularity of Wimbledon, which concluded Sunday evening, could also be a contributing factor.
Universal’s “Jurassic World Rebirth” dropped to second place with $4.4 million in its second frame, pushing its cumulative total to $26 million. Warner Bros.’ F1” remained in the top three, adding $1.5 million in its third outing for a running total of $21.4 million.

A best-selling novel first published in 1997, Niall Williams’ Four Letters Of Love charmed readers around the world, and one of them was Helena Bonham-Carter. Film projects rarely come together at speed, however, and it was only last year that the big screen adaptation finally went into production. As a consequence, Bonham-Carter appears not as the heroine but in the supporting role of her mother. Pierce Brosnan likewise takes a back seat as the hero’s father, so don’t be led astray by their joint headline billing. The young stars in the central roles work well enough, however, and there’s another nice supporting turn from Gabriel Byrne as the heroine’s father.
There are always interesting storytelling possibilities in exploring who people were, and what they did, before they fell in love. At a structural level, it allows one to explore the ways in which two people might fit together without the distraction.

Rachel Brosnahan, the actress who is widely renowned for her breakthrough role as Miriam “Midge” Maisel in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, has earned a one-way ticket into one of the up-and-coming Dcu, through James Gunn’s upcoming Superman. And since then, talks about her pretty much refuse to die down.
The forthcoming flick will see her embodying the character of the fan-beloved Lois Lane: A world-famous investigative journalist at Daily Planet, who works alongside (and ends up being the love interest of) Clark Kent, aka the Kryptonian superhero Kal-El (played by David Corenswet in the new movie).
Judging from the reviews that the trailer and the early screenings have received so far, Brosnahan has ostensibly left no stone unturned in giving one of the finest performances of her lifetime as Lane. But while that one’s to look forward to, you might want to see more of her after watching her in Superman.

While July might drum up images of hot dogs, cookouts, beach trips, and heat waves, the month also marks a halfway point that fans of a certain holiday will surely be celebrating. On the 25th, many networks like the Hallmark Channel pop off with festivities reveling in the time-honored tradition of Christmas in July. This year, Netflix is getting in on the action, but in the scariest way possible. While Hallmark will be bringing audiences tales of love and merriment, Netflix is set to add one of the best holiday horror hits to its lengthy lineup of content. Beginning on July 16, audiences can tune in to see what happens to those who end up on the naughty list when the Adam Scott (Severance) and Toni Collette(Hereditary)-led Krampus terrorizes subscribers.

Making movies is challenging, and making a splash at the box office is even harder. On paper, a John Wick spin-off starring Ana de Armas as a lethal soldier of the Ruska Roma sounds like a guaranteed money-maker. However, audiences are fickle, and going to the cinema is expensive, even if you’re sneaking snacks from the Bulk Barn and requesting sparkling water instead of Coca-Cola. Despite positive reviews and solid word of mouth, Armas’s Ballerina stumbled at the box office. Thankfully, Ballerina is already Jetéing to the top of the PVOD charts.
According to FlixPatrol, Ballerina finished second on iTunes in the United States on July 1 and July 2. The action-packed film finished third on Vudu and seventh on Amazon on July 2.

A John Wick spinoff movie that made $105 million at the box office is now available on digital platforms after spending one month in theaters. The action franchise started in 2014 with John Wick, starring Keanu Reeves as the legendary assassin who comes out of retirement to seek revenge against those who killed his dog, a final gift from his recently deceased wife.
Since then, the franchise and its intricate mythology have expanded significantly with three sequels and John Wick: Chapter 5 currently in the works, all directed by Chad Stahelski. Other than the mainline movies, there have also been various spin-offs that have expanded the franchise. This includes the Peacock miniseries The Continental, exploring the origins of the titular hotel and assassin safe haven.
There are also several John Wick spinoff movies in the works, including one focused on Caine with Donnie Yen reprising his role from John Wick: Chapter 4 in addition to directing.

Although John Wick is set to have a highly-anticipated fifth installment, the franchise is rapidly expanding beyond the reach of Keanu Reeves' titular character. The first major spin-off, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, hit theaters earlier this year to generally positive buzz. The acclaimed spin-off is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a 76% rating, while audiences especially loved it, registering an impressive 93% on the Popcornmeter scale. Of course, it is hard to compare to the action film series that has grossed $1 billion, but Ballerina was able to recapture the magic and introduce a new assassin, played by Ana de Armas. After less than a month in theaters, the spin-off is headed to home entertainment.
From the World of John Wick: Ballerina is now available to purchase or rent on digital platforms and Premium Video on Demand (PVOD) as of Jul. 1. A streaming platform release date has not been announced just yet.

Ballerina Worldwide Box Office: Here’s How Much It Needs To Break Even(Photo Credit –Facebook)
From the World of John Wick: Ballerina is a critically acclaimed movie, but it is far from being a financial success. Ana de Armas’ movie recently crossed the $100 million milestone worldwide, but its reported budget is less than its current worldwide collection. Keep scrolling for the deets.
Despite the positive reviews, the action thriller is underperforming at the box office due to several reasons, including the absence of Keanu Reeves in the leading role, multiple releases, and people’s hesitation about a female-led action movie. The franchise became popular due to Keanu, and his absence might have upset the fans. On the other hand, multiple movies are running in the theaters, which is also affecting the business.

From the World of John Wick: Ballerina has just crossed a significant global box office milestone, but it's not reaching the same heights as the John Wick sequels. Directed by Len Wiseman, the latest installment in the hit action franchise stars Ana de Armas as Eve Macarro, an assassin who sets out for revenge following the murder of her father. De Armas is joined in the Ballerina cast by Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane, Anjelica Huston, and Gabriel Byrne, but these names weren't enough to raise the film beyond a modest box office opening of $24 million domestically.
Per The Numbers, Ballerina has now crossed $95.1 million worldwide, comprising $45.4 million domestically and $49.7 million from overseas territories. As the film nears the $100 million mark, it still falls short of all the John Wick movies, save for the debut installment in 2014. Check out a chart of the franchise's box office performance below:

The John Wick franchise's best and most successful movie is keeping up the momentum from the release of Ballerina by storming its way onto the streaming charts. John Wick: Chapter 4 has become a streaming hit on Peacock -- and it's not the first time.
Per Flix Patrol, John Wick: Chapter 4 is now #10 on Peacock's movie chart in the United States, joining a list led by Despicable Me 3, the Adam Sandler classic Happy Gilmore and Dreamworks' animated comedy Dog Man. This is the second time Chapter 4 has entered Peacock's Top 10 in a few weeks, having topped the streaming service's chart in May 2025 as well.
Chapter 4 is the magnum opus of the John Wick franchise for many movie enthusiasts. The 2023 neo-noir action thriller saw Wick (once again played by Keanu Reeves) trying to gain freedom from the High Table and its uncompromising frontman Marquis da Gramont (portrayed by Bill Skarsgård).

Following an underwhelming debut last week, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina is proving once again that audiences aren’t particularly interested in prequels, especially if they focus on new characters. Ballerina is performing along the lines of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, which debuted to positive reviews a couple of years ago but failed to crack the $100 million mark domestically. Starring Ana de Armas in the titular role, Ballerina serves as the first theatrical spin-off to the massively successful John Wick franchise, which has grossed a combined total of over $1 billion worldwide. The stakes for Ballerina were sky-high for two reasons.
Firstly, Lionsgate is coming off of a truly terrible 2024, when its combined revenue across multiple titles struggled to cross the $200 million mark domestically. Secondly, the main John Wick franchise seemingly ended following the fourth film. A new movie has since been announced, but if the series wants to expand,...

From the World of John Wick: Ballerina just crossed a major milestone for the franchise. Led by Ana de Armas, the movie follows the assassin Eve Macarro as she attempts to avenge her father's death by killing the cult leader the Chancellor (Gabriel Byrne). The movie ties directly into the John Wick movies, as Keanu Reeves appears as the titular star, supporting Eve in her quest to defeat the Cult. Directed by Len Wiseman (Live Free or Die Hard), Ballerina debuted with an underwhelming $24 million at the domestic box office, which is also the second-lowest opener in the franchise.
According to a report by Variety, Ballerina will drop to fourth place in its second weekend in theaters. After earning just $2 million on Friday, it is expected to earn $8.7 million this weekend, which would represent a 64% drop from its debut last week. It should reach $41.1 million domestically and is poised to...

Now comes Ballerina …From The World Of John Wick. No less! Let me burst the bubble by telling you there is very little of John Wick in this fifth and most annoying chapter. What we do get is an abundance of Wick-the-f…k episodes.
Many times, I was left gritting my teeth while the female John Wick, the prospective assassin and full-time ballerina Eva Macarro (the gorgeous Ana de Armas), was put through the grind by a screenplay that screams for attention but doesn’t deserve it.
The lost-and-found plot about two sisters separated during childhood by a vicious clansman simply known as the Chancellor (Gabriel Byrne) is pure hokum, straight out of a Manmohan Desai potboiler in the 1980s; even the tattoos...

Ballerina Movie Review: Ana De Armas And Keanu Reeves’ Combo Makes This One An Intense Watch (Photo Credit –Facebook)
What’s Good: Ana De Armas’ intense act, Keanu Reeves’ cameo, action sequences, cinematography.
What’s Bad: There could have been more depth into the trauma and character arc of Ana De Armas’ Eve Macarro, which shapes up her hunger for vengeance, the camaraderie between Eve and John Wick could have been explored more.
Loo Break: This one is too engaging to take one in the middle.
Watch or Not?: It is a treat for all the John Wick fans out there plus a much needed addition in the women-centric action movie genre.

A little over a year ago, it was announced that Pierce Brosnan would be starring as an aging werewolf hunter in the film Wolfland. Described as an "epic odyssey" with Brosnan's son Sean behind the camera, there's been little news on the project since then, and now we know the unfortunate reason why.
Speaking with MovieWeb's own George Edelman about his upcoming Western, The Unholy Trinity, the subject of Wolfland came up. Word came in 2024 that Brosnan was set to lead the project as Devlin, a former werewolf hunter who helps a young teenager. However, since then, Brosnan has had a number of things on his plate, including voicing Pontius Pilate in The King of Kings, playing Ron Ritchie in the upcoming film The Thursday Murder Club, and starring in the hit Paramount+ series, MobLand. This story contains Spoilers for Ballerina.
Ballerina director Len Wiseman shared one of his original ideas for the John Wick spinoff’s ending sequences, which would have introduced another character. The filmmaker is no stranger to the action genre, after previously directing two Underworld movies, 2007’s Live Free or Die Hard, and 2012’s Total Recall.
During a recent interview with EW, Wiseman opened up about his alternate ending idea, which involves Eve’s supposedly dead mother. This scrapped ending’s surprising twist will not only reveal that Eve’s mother was alive all along, but it would have also shown Eve’s mother as the one who ordered the hit on her.
"At one point I had [in the script] that she meets her mother, and we never got there,” he said. “We were maybe going to shoot the scene, but that's always something that we hear, her mother's dead, but in this world,...

Major spoilers ahead for Ballerina. From the World of John Wick: Ballerina director Len Wiseman shares his theory about who put the contract on Ana de Armas' Eve Macarro at the end of the movie. The latest installment in the John Wick franchise follows Eve as she seeks for revenge for the murder of her father. The Ballerina ending sees Eve accomplish her mission, killing the Chancellor (Gabriel Byrne) in Hallstatt, but she's not out of the woods yet. Just before the credits roll, Eve sees on her phone that there's a large contract on her head, but it's not clear who placed the hit.
In a recent interview with EW, Wiseman comments on this ambiguous Ballerina ending, revealing that he thinks a specific figure from Eve's past could be responsible for the contract. According to the director, an early draft of the script had Eve interacting more with her Cultist mother,...

This article contains spoilers for Ballerina.
Ballerina is the first spinoff movie that takes place in the world of the John Wick films, but it definitely won't be the last. Aside from the other spinoff film that's currently in development starring Donnie Yen's John Wick: Chapter 4 character Caine (which the action star is also directing), it seems that Ana de Armas' Eve Macarro has a violent future ahead of her in a possible sequel. Len Wiseman, the director of Ballerina, took the time to talk about how the ending of the film would shape any future stories revolving around the character, as well as the fallout of her actions.
The ending of Ballerina sees Eve finally take her vengeance on the Chancellor (Gabriel Byrne), the leader of an unnamed cult that killed her father when she was a young girl, as shown in the beginning of the film.

This article contains spoilers for "Ballerina" and the John Wick franchise.
The head hotshot of "Ballerina," Eve (Ana de Armas), might be able to stand her ground against a cult and its leader (Gabriel Byrne), but it's clear after her tense altercation with a man sent to kill her that she can't get the best of John Wick (Keanu Reeves). At least, not at this point, anyway. As revealed in Len Wiseman's spin-off shoot-'em-up set in the world of the "John Wick" franchise, the story of "Ballerina" takes place between the third and fourth films, long before the showdown the end of "John Wick: Chapter 4." That's a long time for Eve to go it alone and become more of a killer than she already is, perhaps just in time for when the Baba Yaga comes back from the dead for a fifth film.

The official convoluted yet more beguiling title to the 2025 movie Ballerina directed by Len Wiseman is From the World of John Wick: Ballerina. We all know that this is because firstly, ‘Ballerina’ is a terrible film name and John Wick is a fantastic fan favourite franchise.
Ballerina isn’t the first spin-off to use the moniker of one of Keanu Reeves most popular and pain-inducing characters. The excellent prequel TV miniseries The Continental, which detailed the rise to power of one of John Wick’s key characters Winston Scott was also tagged as being ‘From the World of John Wick’.
But what does that strange subtitle actually mean? Well, what started as a seemingly middle of the road revenge story in 2014, penned by Derek Kolstad, has turned into a sprawling epic all action quadrilogy. It was elevated above other martial arts and trigger happy flicks by its lead actor, some...

This article contains spoilers for "Ballerina."
After more than a decade of adventures with the world's most skilled assassin, the "John Wick" franchise is finally moving beyond Mr. Wick and Keanu Reeves. Lionsgate has released "Ballerina," aka "From the World of John Wick: Ballerina," the first spin-off in the larger John Wick Cinematic Universe. While Reeves does appear in the film as John Wick, the movie is mostly centered on a new protagonist, Eve Macarro, played by Ana de Armas.
As anyone who has ever seen any of the "John Wick" movies can surely tell you, these movies are practically overflowing with interesting supporting characters, and director Len Wiseman very much keeps that tradition alive with "Ballerina." One such character that Eve comes across on her journey of revenge is Daniel Pine, played by none other than Daryl Dixon Himself, "The Walking Dead" star Norman Reedus.

From the World of John Wick: Ballerina not only introduced a new assassin, but new, even crazier ways to kill people in this world.
Following Ballerina's theatrical release, director Len Wiseman spoke with IndieWire about joining the John Wick universe and creating set pieces that matched star Ana de Armas' strengths. This meant giving protagonist Eve Macarro a new arsenal of weapons, such as utilizing a pair of ice skates as lethal blades in the third act. Choreographing that fight meant buying a pair of regular skates, where he “put blood all over them and shot a few moves in my garage where she would use them like gauntlets on her hands,” then sharing his ideas with the stunt team at 87eleven so they could expand upon it.
Crucial to this collaboration, he added, was ensuring the fight doubled as an extension of de Armas' performance, stating, "Sometimes, the...

Warning! Spoilers for "Ballerina" follow.
The villains of the "John Wick" films are largely incidental. They can be effective challenges for Mr. Wick (Keanu Reeves), but no one goes to these movies for the bad guys. We go to see John blow them away. Does the new spin-off "Ballerina" change that?
The primary villain of "Ballerina" is a man called the Chancellor. True to his title, the Chancellor leads a community of assassins based in the Austrian mountains. Eve's (Ana de Armas) late mother was a member of the Chancellor's community but tried to leave with her husband, Javier (David Castañeda). The Chancellor came to retrieve Eve and murdered Javier, but Eve escaped to be raised by the Ruska Roma mafia.
Our Ballerina now wants revenge on the man who murdered her father. It's a tale as old as time — definitely much more old hat than tearing through the New...

The following contains spoilers for From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, now playing in theatersBallerina director Len Wiseman already has plans for a potential sequel. The fifth movie in the John Wick franchise diverges from Wick's (Keanu Reeves) story to focus primarily on Eve Macarro (Ana de Armas), as she attempts to avenge her father (David Castañeda). Though Eve does manage to achieve her revenge, she is left in a precarious position in its final scene, as the Cult elects to place a bounty on her head, due to her involvement in the Chancellor's (Gabriel Byrne) death.
While the movie teases Eve's next steps, Wiseman has thoroughly planned out where Eve's story will take her. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the director explained that "you don't walk off into the sunset very easily," so Eve will have to "deal with the consequences of her actions." Though she has found refuge in the Continental,...
