Image
A Stormtrooper helmet from “Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope” fetched $256,000 at an auction held Sunday at Comic-Con in San Diego.

According to Julien’s Auctions and Turner Classic Movies, the helmet was an original stunt helmet used during filming. “This helmet is believed to be featured in scenes on Tatooine as a ‘Sandtrooper’ helmet.”

The description noted that only six stunt helmets were “known to have survived and are accounted for in private collections – this being one of the six.”

Other items that were sold at the auction include an original stunt lightsaber prop used by Ewan McGregor as “Obi-Wan Kenobi” and an original bladed lightsaber prop used by Liam Neeson, who played Qui-Gon Jinn in “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.” Each sold for $38,400. Image
A screen-used Stormtrooper helmet from Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope was sold for $256,000 at an auction held Sunday at Comic-Con in San Diego.

The helmet was previously exhibited at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, last year as part of an exhibition titled “Defending America and the Galaxy: Star Wars and Sdi.” According to Julien’s Auctions and Turner Classic Movies, which organized the event, this original stunt helmet was used in the production and is believed to be featured in scenes on Tatooine as a “Sandtrooper” helmet. It’s said to be one of only six stunt helmets known to have survived and are accounted for in private collections.

An Easter Egg From George Lucas' First Sci-Fi Movie Appears All Over The Star Wars Franchise
Image
It's worth pausing to note that George Lucas has never directed a feature film that is set in the present. "American Graffiti," released in 1973, takes place in 1962. His many "Star Wars" movies, although containing starships and androids, are similarly set "a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away." In all these cases, Lucas sees the past as an idealized time, when life was simpler and more pleasant. In the case of "American Graffiti," the past was the calm before the storm, back when life was nothing but potential energy and the future was ready to be explored. In the case of the "Star Wars" films, it was a time when brave heroes rose up to battle fascism and evil empires regularly tumbled.

The future, Lucas feels, is a dour time, and nothing good will happen to humanity when we get there. At the end of "American Graffiti," for instance,...

7 key takeaways from the official Star Wars galaxy map
Image
If you have ever wondered how far Naboo is from Coruscant or where in the galaxy Lothal or Ferrix are located, you finally have an answer that you can consider canon.

Lucasfilm has released an official map of the Star Wars galaxy, the first of its kind to include all the planets we have heard of in the franchise and more. It was revealed on the official website's cartography page, initially created for Jason Fry’s 2009 reference book Star Wars: The Essential Atlas. Based on the 2021 Star Wars Celebration poster designed by Christopher Ibbit of Dk, the map shows the galaxy divided into regions: Core Worlds, Colonies, Inner Rim, Outer Rim, Hutt Space, and others.

The map comes with a 59-page database of all the systems, their respective sectors, regions, and grid numbers. It is impossible to scan for any given planet without further zooming in,...

12 Actors Who Had Multiple Star Wars Roles
Image
For many years, the majority of "Star Wars" actors were identified by one signature role, save some of the shorter, alien-costumed actors like Jack Purvis, who played both the chief Jawa and Teebo the Ewok. That was when the entirety of the franchise was a mere trilogy of movies. Now, it's a never-ending spout of content featuring three trilogies, two theatrical spin-off movies, multiple streaming shows, and a cargo load of animation. With the expansion of the property across multiple media, reliable thespians have been called back by Lucasfilm, not only to reprise their old characters, but to double, triple, or more as multiple characters. We're not just talking about animation, in which versatile voice actors have been a tradition since the heyday of Mel Blanc. Many "Star Wars" actors in live-action projects have played more than one role, and this list is for them.

That's right -- this does...

Steven Spielberg Snuck A Star Wars Easter Egg Into Raiders Of The Lost Ark
Image
It's easy to forget that George Lucas was the original creative force behind the Indiana Jones franchise. His love of early 20th-century adventure film serials led him to "Star Wars" -- a response to his inability to secure the actual "Buck Rogers" rights -- while 1981's "Raiders of the Lost Ark" was conceived from similar inspirations. In fact, Lucas came up with the idea in 1973, four years before "Star Wars: Episode IV -- A New Hope" hit theaters. Even the name "Indiana" was taken from Lucas' dog -- the same one who inspired the character of Chewbacca.

After "Star Wars" became a massive success, Lucas didn't have the time or drive to make his swashbuckling archeology story a reality, and he ended up handing the project off to his close friend Steven Spielberg and "The Empire Strikes Back" collaborator Lawrence Kasdan. The result, like "Star Wars," was a huge hit,...

Why Star Wars proves practical effects beat CGI every time
Image
Before Kevin Feige’s Marvel multiverse, before blue Na’vi forests or digitally de-aged heroes, George Lucas had the Star Wars team making movie magic the old-fashioned way, with puppets, miniatures, matte paintings, and costumes that looked like they’d lived through galactic wars.

Now, nearly five decades later, those practical effects, praised by the American Society of Cinematographers, still hold up better than most CGI.

Back in 1977, Lucas didn’t just launch a franchise. He rewrote the rules of movie-making. Star Wars: A New Hope merged dogfight-inspired model battles, complex costume design, and groundbreaking practical effects into a cinematic experience that was arguably more immersive than any prior film.

My mom still talks about how incredible it was to “fly” onto Tatooine and see the twin suns for the first time during Star Wars’ initial theatrical run.

The Cantina scene alone featured dozens of alien species brought to life through latex masks,...

After Ahsoka, Another Star Wars Show on Disney+ Is Reportedly Moving Forward With a Second Season
Image
Ahsoka may no longer be the only recent live-action Star Wars series to receive a second season. A new rumor claims that Lucasfilm is in development on another season of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

According to Daniel Richtman (via The Direct), Obi-Wan Kenobi Season 2 is now in development at Lucasfilm. Unfortunately, the scooper did not indicate when the second season might go into production or be released on Disney+. Originally envisioned as a solo film, Obi-Wan Kenobi was redeveloped into a limited series following the financial failure of Solo: A Star Wars Story. With the physical media release of Obi-Wan Kenobi labeling it as "The Complete Series" as opposed to "Season 1," it's clear that Lucasfilm initially had no intention of continuing the Disney+ show despite fan interest.

Set a decade after the Jedi Order was purged during the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, the first season...

George Lucas' First Print of Star Wars Screened After Decades Thanks to a ‘Miracle'
Image
For the first time in decades, the original print of Star Wars, when it was simply titled Star Wars, and not Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, was screened in London recently. The British Film Institute (BFI) showed Star Wars in its 1977 original cut during the opening night of its Film on Film Festival on June 12. The iconic film that would spawn a franchise that is beloved by many, starred Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Alec Guinness, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, and Peter Mayhew.

The announcement of the screening earlier this year garnered attention as George Lucas has been publicly vocal in the past about his dislike of the original cut and went on to change several things down the road. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, who made a surprise appearance at the Film on Film Festival where the super-rare print of Star Wars was being shown, said...

14 Actors Who Played the Same Character for 40 Years or More
Image
Conundrum: you get a prestigious four-decade career, but you literally just say “meep-meep” the entire time.

14 Fran Brill: 43 Years

Brill joined Sesame Street with exactly zero puppeteering experience in 1971, but created the character Prairie Dawn (and voiced several others), eventually winning an Emmy. She retired her signature character in 2015.

13 Jamie Lee Curtis: 44 Years

Curtis has lived and died in the Halloween franchise from 1978’s Halloween through 2022’s Halloween Ends. Actor Nick Castle has also played Michael Myers throughout that span, although he spent most of his career focusing on writing and directing, and has occasionally done “voiceover” work providing Myer’s heavy breathing.

12 Paul Julian: 44 Years

Julian was a voice actor and a background animator for Warner Bros., and he perfected the “meep-meep” as the Road Runner from 1949 to 1994.

11 Mark Hamill: 45 Years

He kicked off his career as Luke Skywalker in 1977’s Star Wars, and has...

‘Star Wars: Ahsoka’ Star Rory McCann Says It's an "Honor" to Take Over From the Late Ray Stevenson
Image
Game of Thrones icon Rory McCann will take over from the late, great Ray Stevenson as fallen Jedi Baylan Skoll in the upcoming second season of the Disney+ Star Wars series, Ahsoka. Following Stevenson’s passing on 21 May 2023, aged just 58, the studio turned to McCann to continue Stevenson’s legacy as the captivating new character, with the actor now saying to MovieWeb’s own George Edelman that it was an "honor" to take over the role and join the ever-expanding world of Star Wars.

“It’s another level, another galaxy, far, far away. I still am pinching myself. This is actually happening under not great circumstances, with Ray Stevenson passing, and hell of a big shoes to fill. But what a great honor. I'm practicing with a lightsaber every night in my back garden. I can't believe it. I remember being a little boy in the queue for the Star Wars,...

Every year on this say, Star Wars fans the world over show their appreciation for all things Galaxy Far, Far Away, and Lucasfilm has now joined the celebration by releasing an all-new montage of footage from every movie, live-action and animated series in the saga.

The video cleverly mashes-up footage and dialogue from all three movie trilogies, as well as the likes of The Mandalorian, Andor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Star Wars Rebels, Visions, Skeleton Crew, and more.

We haven't seen Star Wars on the big screen since The Rise of Skywalker, but that will soon change. Image
Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith returned to theaters this weekend, two decades after it was first released. As we first reported on SFFGazette.com, the final chapter of George Lucas' divisive prequel trilogy proved its lasting audience appeal by taking in an estimated $42.2 million at the worldwide box office.

Episode III, which was re-released to celebrate its 20th anniversary on Friday, made an estimated $25.2 million domestically, helping it beat The Accountant 2 to #2 in North America (Sinners remained #1 with a fantastic weekend of its own).

Outside of the U.S., it also played in select theaters within many markets, including Germany (where it opened #1), France, Spain, the UK, Australia, Brazil, and Mexico, on its way to an estimated $17 million internationally.

This is one of the top-grossing re-release weekends in domestic industry history, playing behind Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope ($36 million from the January 1997 Special Edition release...

Sinners Has A Phenomenal Second Weekend - But How Did Star Wars: Revenge Of The Sith's Re-Release Fare?
Image
It's been six years since Avengers: Endgame opened in theaters and broke records, but this is no sleepy weekend at the box office without the MCU to lend a hand.

Sinners has vastly exceeded expectations, with a second weekend dip of roughly -10%. The movie is eyeing a $42 million - $44 million haul, following a $48 million debut over Easter. This is a tremendous result for an original IP, and it's no doubt been buoyed by positive reviews (it sits at 98% on Rotten Tomatoes).

By the end of this weekend, its 10-day cume will have likely reached $120 million in North America.

The fight for #2 has come down to The Accountant 2 versus Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. The former is hoping to net somewhere between $23 million - $25 million, but the re-release of George Lucas' 2005 movie is nipping at its heels with projections pointing to $21 million - $23 million.

Some analysts expect Episode...

‘Revenge of the Sith’ Supervillain Ian McDiarmid on His ‘Star Wars’ Heel Turn, ‘Rise of Skywalker’ Backlash and Steven Spielberg’s Reaction to The Emperor: ‘Oh My God You’re Evil’
Image
Darth Vader might be the face of the Empire in the “Star Wars” saga — but even he has a boss.

The Emperor has existed as long as the franchise itself, from a passing mention in “A New Hope” to his unexpected (and controversial) reappearance in “The Rise of Skywalker.” But the 2005 prequel finale “Revenge of the Sith,” now re-released to theaters and celebrating its 20th anniversary on May 19, forms the inflection point between his benevolent public persona and his true (and truly evil) identity. Remarkably, Scottish actor Ian McDiarmid has inhabited the role for 42 years; along with Anthony Daniels as C-3P0, that ranks among the longest tours of duty in “Star Wars” history.

To commemorate the “Revenge of the Sith” anniversary, McDiarmid spoke with Variety from his flat in London to discuss the character’s climactic pivot, and the process of building his arc after first being cast in...

Star Wars: Revenge Of The Sith Looks Set To Score A Shocking Upset At The Box Office This Weekend
Image
As we first reported on SFFGazette.com, Disney's 20th anniversary re-release of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith could score a box office upset in North America this weekend.

The movie earned $3.4 million from Thursday previews, and with $20 million in presales, it may open between $27 million - $30 million. Should it meet those expectations, then it stands a chance of debuting at #1, topping Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal's The Accountant 2. That made $2.5 million yesterday and should land in the low-to-mid $20 million range.

It's a little too soon for full weekend estimates, but Sinners is holding up well and has the potential to earn north of $30 million. If so, then it will likely take the top spot. However, even #2 would be a huge win for Disney, seeing as this is just a re-release.

Video game adaptation Until Dawn is eyeing a $8 million - $9 million start. That may sound low, but...

‘Revenge of the Sith’ Summons the Power of the Jedi With Impressive Re-Release Box Office
Image
The popularity of Star Wars never ceases to amaze. This month, one of the most beloved entries in the Jedi universe is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a re-release in theaters. Since it is a limited event, it was expected that Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith wouldn't be a huge standout at the box office. But fans seem to be using the Force to bring it back to the top: just in its Thursday previews, the George Lucas movie has earned a reported $3.4 million in ticket sales, outperforming new titles like The Accountant 2 and Until Dawn.

Despite the surprising debut, it's not like Star Wars fans didn't signal that they would keep coming back to theaters: last year, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace raked in more than $8 million on its opening weekend. However, since Revenge of the Sith is already off to a great start, speculations are putting...

The Force Is Strong for Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith's Thursday Previews
Image
The fun is certainly beginning for George Lucas' Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith as the 20-year-old film had an impressive showing at the box office in Thursday previews.

Per Deadline, Revenge of the Sith earned $3.4 million in Thursday previews, beating out the newly released sequel, The Accountant 2, which brought in $2.5 million. According to the outlet, Revenge of the Sith is projected to earn around $20 million in its opening weekend, which would place the 20-year-old film at or near the top of this weekend's box office totals. Over the past few years, Lucasfilm has re-released past Star Wars films to celebrate anniversaries. Last year, Star Wars Episode I - The Phantom Menace was re-released in theaters for its 25th anniversary and Star Wars Episode VI - Return of the Jedi had its own 40th anniversary re-release back in 2023. However, Revenge of the Sith is poised to...

“The Force Is The Fans”: What Star Wars Celebration Japan Taught Us About That Galaxy Far, Far Away
Image
A week ago today, Ryan Gosling took to the Live Stage at Star Wars Celebration Japan to share a message with the thousands gathered in the Makuhari Messe Convention Centre. “As I’m here,” said the Canadian actor, fresh off the rockstar-like reveal that he would be leading Shawn Levy’s newly announced Star Wars: Starfighter, “I feel like the Force is the fans. And all we can hope is, ‘May the fans be with us.’” In the moment, it was a quippy turn of phrase to avoid giving anything away about Levy’s secretive new Star War; but by the end of the weekend, it seemed like the perfect summation of the current state of play in our beloved galaxy far, far away.

It would be fair to say that there has been a sense of a disturbance in the Force, both on the part of the fans and Lucasfilm,...

'As Odd as That Might Sound': Star Wars' Jar Jar Binks Actor Reveals How He Handles 'Brutal' Fan Backlash

Jar Jar Binks may be one of the more polarizing characters in the Star Warsfranchise. When the Gungan debuted in 1999’s Star Wars: Episode 1- The Phantom Menace, many fans didn’t quite know what to make of him. During the 2025 Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo, actor Ahmed Best, who played Jar Jar Binks in the prequel trilogy, talked about how some fans can be “brutal” in their dissection of the films, but it is likely coming from a good place.

“It’s been a roller coaster,” Best said during a panel at the Tokyo event titled “Heroic Sidekicks of Star Wars” that also featured Anthony Daniels and Alan Tudyk, who played droids C-3Po and K-2So, respectively, in the Star Wars franchise. A clip featuring Best’s comments was posted on Threads by user thesw, via the official Star Wars YouTube channel.

Jar Jar Binks' Actor (Jokingly) Makes Darth Jar Jar Canon
Image
During "The Heroic Sidekicks of Star Wars" in Star WarsCelebration 2025 Day 3, Anthony Daniels (C-3P0), Alan Tudyk (K-2S0) and Ahmed Best (Jar Jar Binks) sat down and reminisced about their performances and time during their respective Star Wars films. Fans expected that the veteran actors would just share fun and nostalgic stories about working on the sets of that galaxy from far, far away. But to everyone's pleasant surprise, Best acknowledged one of the Star Wars fandom's biggest jokes. What's more, he (jokingly) made it canon.

Specifically, Best jokingly claimed that Darth Jar Jar — the evil and all-powerful version of the bumbling Jar Jar Binks — was canon in Star Wars' lore. Darth Jar Jar is actually one of the longest-running jokes within the Star Wars fandom, and he existed as far back as the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy's opening days. That said, there's so much more history to Darth...

Anthony Daniels didn't realize he was in The Volume while filming Ahsoka
Image
Star Wars Celebration might be an onslaught of news from all of the upcoming shows and movies. However, during the Live! Stage livestream on Star Wars' YouTube channel, Anthony Daniels shared a delightful story about filming Ahsoka Season 1.

Sitting down with host Anthony Carboni (who literally wrapped up Daniels in bubble wrap at the end of the interview to keep him safe until the Star Wars' 50th anniversary), Daniels discussed reprising his role as C-3Po in Ahsoka's first season. However, he was tricked by some "magic," as he called it.

my tweet on the livestream means i technically have a photo with anthony daniels in bubblewrap right? Right??? pic.twitter.com/P5TZGKF0T7

Image
Anakin is back (again), baby!

Hayden Christensen will reprise his fan-favorite role of Anakin Skywalker for season two of Ahsoka, the Lucasfilm Disney+ show that stars Rosario Dawson. The announcement was made at the Star Wars Celebration event in Tokyo, Japan.

Ahsoka creator Dave Filoni, executive producer Jon Favreau and star Rosario Dawson took the main stage for a panel to discuss the inspirations behind the show and the making of season one. Filoni spoke about the heavy influence of Hayao Miyazaki’s Princess Mononoke and Favreau talked about George Lucas’ love for the character Ahsoka and reminisced about casting Dawson. The actress added that they begin shooting season two of Ahsoka next week.

After a brief scene between Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka was shown on the big screen, Christensen then walked out to rapturous applause from the crowd. But the announcement of his return didn’t come till near the end of the panel.

Unreleased Star Wars Comedy Acknowledged by Lucasfilm for the First Time in Over a Decade
Image
2025 marks the 20th anniversary of Lucasfilm Animation, and the company commemorated its anniversary with a new poster, which was unveiled at Star Wars Celebration in Shiba, Japan. While the poster mostly celebrates their successful projects, there's also a hidden reference to a Star Wars project that will probably never see the light of day. Star Wars: Detours, an animated comedy series from the Robot Chicken team, is referenced on the poster, making it the first time it's been officially acknowledged in years.

The poster features characters from all of Lucasfilm Animation's popular Star Wars series, from The Clone Wars to Rebels to Resistance, but appropriately enough for this weekend, there's a hidden Easter egg for one of the most obscure Star Wars animated series. If you look closely in the bottom right corner of the poster, you'll see a Stormtrooper with a giant head and comical goggle-eyes, taken directly from the long-lost animated series.

June 12 Will Be an Unbelievable Day for Star Wars Fans
Image
Nearly 50 years ago, George Lucas’ first Star Wars movie was simply called Star Wars, and not Star Wars: Episode IV- A New Hope when it premiered in theaters in 1977. Now, fans of the iconic franchise will be able to see the original cut of Star Wars just as moviegoers did back then. For some, it will be re-living a childhood memory and, for others, it is a chance to see the rare, original cut for the very first time.

Per Collider, the British Film Institute (BFI) will screen Star Wars in its original, rare, unaltered 1977 glory on the opening night of BFI’s Film on Film Festival on June 12. The event will be held at BFI’s Southbank Theater in London. Those in attendance will also be treated to archives and historical material from the movie, which will include deleted scenes and Polaroid pictures taken on the movie’s set.

'Star Wars' C-3Po Actor Reveals Why He Almost Quit on the First Day of Filming Episode IV
Image
It doesn't matter how many sequels, reboots, or spin-offs Star Wars gets, fans will always look back at what George Lucas made in 1977. A New Hope, a.k.a. 1977's feature film,Star Wars, was a great fantasy movie that made audiences fall in love with characters from across galaxies. They could be otherworldly creatures or androids, and still, fans repeated their lines and followed them throughout the entire franchise. One of these characters is the clumsy protocol droid C-3Po, a beloved robot played by Anthony Daniels. It's hard to imagine Star Wars without "Threepio," but as it turns out, if it hadn't been for Daniels' perseverance and high pain threshold, we wouldn't have had the opportunity to meet the iconic android who knows six million forms of communication.

Daniels, who also gives voice to "Threepio" in all of his appearances, has been playing the character for 48 years. Almost...

'That's How I Got the Role': John Lithgow Reveals the Story Behind His Forgotten Yoda Performance in Star Wars Project
Image
Hollywood icon John Lithgow opens up about how he landed the role of Star Wars' Yoda more than forty years ago.

Speaking to Collider, Lithgow laid out the story of how he ended up portraying the voice of Yoda for 1983's Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back radio drama. Lithgow recalled being directed on Broadway in by John Madden, who was also directing the second entry in the Star Wars radio drama. "He had Billy Dee Williams and Anthony Daniels and Mark Hamill," Lithgow said, "But Frank Oz had chosen not to play Yoda because he was very doctrinaire about only using his voice when he used a puppet—not unlike Dave Crealy, I might add."

That's how I got the role of Yoda in the radio production.

"So John was pissing and moaning over lunch one day during a rehearsal break that he couldn't find a Yoda, and I said,...

Anthony Daniels' favorite Star Wars movie might be yours, too
Image
Everyone has a favorite Star Wars movie -- even sometimes the actors who have starred in them. You might think Anthony Daniels, who has had the pleasure and privilege of appearing in every Star Wars film, plus TV shows, video games, and more, would have a hard time picking a favorite. But he actually has a solid reason for choosing one in particular.

Recently at FanX Salt Lake Pop Culture & Comic Convention, as reported by Pop Verse, Daniels was asked if he even had a favorite at all. The actor, who has portrayed C-3Po in various mediums numerous times for nearly five decades, didn't hesitate to give his answer.

“My favorite was actually Episode IV, the very first film," he said. "The reason for that is it was a very simple story ... I understood it.”

In his memoir I Am C-3Po, Daniels tells multiple stories about what production...

John Lithgow Remembers Playing Yoda in 'Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back'
Image
Over the past 40 plus years, the Star Wars universe has played host to some phenomenal talent. Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford kicked off the franchise with A New Hope way back in 1977. Since then, Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Oscar Isaac, Samuel L. Jackson, and many more have all traveled to a galaxy far, far away for one of the various installments in the ever-expanding franchise. However, one actor you might have completely forgotten appeared in Star Wars is John Lithgow. Not only did the Third Rock From the Sun star become part of the Star Wars universe, he played none other than Master Yoda.

During an interview with Collider, Lithgow recalled his brief time playing Yoda in Star Wars. For those that don't know, Lithgow voiced Yoda in the radio dramatizations of The Empire Strikes Back. "I was acting in a play on Broadway directed by John Madden,...

One of the longest-serving actors of the Star Wars franchise is also one that many casual fans of the space opera wouldn’t recognize if they passed him in the street. That would be Anthony Daniels, who has played C-3Po in various iterations since Star Wars hit cinemas back in 1977. The actor has appeared as his golden droid alter-ego in every Star Wars movie, except for Solo: A Star Wars Story – but he did appear as the character Tak in that movie – and has appeared in many TV shows, including making cameo appearances in Ahsoka and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Now he has been revealing which movies in the saga are his favorites.

During a Q&a session at FanX Salt Lake Pop Culture & Comic Convention, Daniels was asked to name his favorite Star Wars movie. Perhaps his answer to this question was not the most surprising, as he named the...

This Documentary Takes a Long, Hard Look at the Strangest Moment in All of Star Wars History
Image
There isn’t a more infamous moment in the galaxy far, far away than the release of The Star Wars Holiday Specialin 1978 on ABC, which was met with such historically awful reviews that it was never aired again, and has never been released by Lucasfilm in any official capacity. The two-hour television event featured brief appearances by Star Warscast members such as Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Anthony Daniels, but the story was mostly centered around how Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) and his family prepared for the Wookiee holiday of “Life Day” on their home planet of Kashyyyk. Much of the special felt only tangentially related to the Star Wars universe, as it featured appearances by ‘70s stars like Art Carney, Jefferson Starship, Bea Arthur, and Harvey Corman. Although it has still been the subject of ridicule, the creation of The Star Wars Holiday Special is unpacked in the...
