Going into Emily in Paris season 5, the Emmy Award-nominated Netflix original romantic comedy series hasn't been without its behind the scenes drama. First, Lucas Bravo shared his unfiltered thoughts about the show and his character Gabriel and left fans wondering if he would be back for another season. (Spoiler alert: Gabriel will indeed return for the fifth season.)
Then, Camille Razat announced her departure from Emily in Paris after four seasons. Razat leaving the show wasn't a matter of drama as much it was Razat looking to step away from the show while being open to returning in the future. However, the latest behind the scenes drama revolves around a guest character from season 4 who actually wanted to return but wasn't asked back.

After making his Emily in Paris debut in Season 4, don’t expect to see Rupert Everett back in the City of Love next season.

TV shows operate on a revolving-door basis, with actors constantly coming and going, and Emily in Paris is no exception. However, it appears one actor was let go without a proper send-off. The Netflix romantic drama, led by Lily Collins, also stars Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Ashley Park, and Lucas Bravo, among others. Over its four-season run, the series has featured a rotating lineup of recurring and guest stars, from Kate Walsh to Rupert Everett and even a cameo by French First Lady Brigitte Macron. Everett appeared in the Season 4 finale as one of the intriguing new characters Emily meets in Rome. With Season 5 expected to continue her adventures in the Eternal City, many assumed he'd return, but according to Everett, that’s not happening.
Everett, alongside the French First Lady, Macron, Raoul Bova, Debi Mazar, and Anna Galiena, all made their debut appearances on the show in Season 4 in guest capacities.

A sequel to beloved 90s rom-com My Best Friend’s Wedding is in the works, with Celine Song writing the script.
Another day, another sequel. Earlier this week, we learned that Gurinder Chadha was busy working on a sequel to her 2002 football flick Bend It Like Beckham. Dan Trachtenberg is also planning more Predator “stuff” with Arnold Schwarzenegger in mind and Happy Gilmore 2 has just appeared on our Netflix front pages.
The latest blast from the past getting a sequel is 1997’s My Best Friend’s Wedding. Starring Julia Roberts and Dermot Mulroney, the film followed two friends who had vowed to get married if they were still single at 28. The film is largely considered one of the best romantic comedies from the 1990s, particularly due to Roberts’ charming performance.

Rejoice, rom-com fans, as Julia Roberts’ 1997 romantic comedy classic, My Best Friend’s Wedding, is about to get a sequel! Recent developments on the project reveal that it’s being written by Celine Song (via Collider), whose previous work on Past Lives (2023) has been nominated for Academy Awards.
Safe to say, the sequel, which will be released under Sony’s banner, has a lot of responsibilities going forward, one of which is replicating the success of the beloved rom-com that starred Roberts, Dermot Mulroney, Cameron Diaz, and Rupert Everett.
In a recent interview with the New York Post, Dermot commented,
“I know nothing about it. Last I heard, quote, lawyers were talking, unquote.”
No further details about the release date and additional cast are currently available, as the project is still in very early development stages. Still, Celine Song’s involvement invokes confidence in the sequel.

As first reported by Collider, Celine Song has been tapped to write the script for a sequel to My Best Friend’s Wedding, the iconic romantic comedy starring Julia Roberts and Dermot Mulroney.
The 1997 movie followed Julianne Potter (Roberts), a food critic who realizes she’s in love with her longtime best friend Michael after learning that he’s getting married. She sets out to sabotage the wedding, but as you might expect, her plans don’t quite go as planned. The film also starred Cameron Diaz and Rupert Everett. It was a big success, grossing nearly $300 million worldwide, and is regarded as one of the best rom-coms of the ’90s.
Just days ago, Mulroney teased that “there is talk of a sequel” while promoting his new Netflix series The Hunting Wives. “I know nothing about it,” he said. “Last I heard, quote, lawyers were talking, unquote.“

Actor Rupert Everett said he was fired from the upcoming season of Netflix’s “Emily in Paris” without ever receiving so much as a phone call.
Everett appeared in the Season 4 finale “Emily in Paris” as a fashion designer Lily Collins’ Emily Cooper meets in Italy. With the fifth season of “Emily in Paris” set partially in Rome, Everett said he was meant to return to his guest role.
“I was fired,” he said plainly at the Marateale Film Festival.
Everett spoke about his career both past and present, as well as the film and television industry at large, on July 24 while he was honored with the Basilicata International Award for his “outstanding contributions to cinema.”
While there, Everett talked about one of his most recent roles — that of Giorgio Barbieri in “Emily in Paris.”

A sequel to the Julia Roberts romantic comedy “My Best Friend’s Wedding” is in early development at Sony Pictures. The studio has tapped “Materialists” and “Past Lives” writer-director Celine Song to pen a screenplay for the project, though she is not in talks to helm the feature.
The development comes shortly after Dermot Mulroney, who starred alongside Roberts in the 1997 original directed by P.J. Hogan, teased that “there is talk of a sequel” to the New York Post. The actor was promoting his new Netflix series “The Hunting Wives” when asked about the potential for a follow-up, saying “I know nothing about it. Regardless of the inherent risks associated with remakes and sequels to classic titles, Hollywood remains relentless. The latest classic being considered for this unending experiment is the 1997 romantic comedy My Best Friend's Wedding. The movie starred Dermot Mulroney along with genre staple Julia Roberts and then-newcomer Cameron Diaz, in a "skewed" love triangle. Mulroney, these days, is best known to TV lovers as Chief Dom Pascal in NBC's Chicago Fire. Fans are anticipating his return to the role in the upcoming Season 14, but perhaps, Mulroney could soon have another project set in the Windy City if the planned My Best Friend's Wedding sequel moves forward.

There are far too many great movies of the '90s to limit to one list, from the debuts of directors like Spike Jonze to the start of iconic film franchises like "Toy Story." However, one year of the entire decade stands out as quite significant in the history of pop culture: 1997. Not only did this year see the debut of franchises like "Harry Potter," major historical events like the death of Princess Diana, and incidents like one where a "Pokémon" episode was banned outside of Japan, but it also saw the release of many memorable films.
Especially in this day and age, it can seem nostalgic for a day when theaters reigned supreme, and great art pieces weren't subjugated to death-by-streaming-releases. In 1997, cinema was in its prime, with both indie films and major blockbusters seeing prosperous runs at the box office. In case you forgot just how idyllic 1997 was for the history of film,...

British actor Rupert Everett, who is on the jury at the Taormina Film Festival, spoke candidly — at some points seriously and others more drolly — this afternoon on a number of topics ranging from his thoughts on the industry today to the threat of AI and how his tastes in consuming content run to “things I don’t really like to watch.”
Charming the assembled film students and accredited attendees, Everett kicked off the conversation in Italian, talking about his experience with Francesco Rosi on 1987’s Chronicle of a Death Foretold and the 2019 mini The Name of the Rose, which shot at Cinecittà.
Then, asked about the state of the industry, Everett pivoted more so to television than cinema and said: “I think for me it’s not having a very good moment because I preferred the world of entertainment when it was a little bit less puritanical. I feel that...

Juliet & Romeo repositions Verona’s ancient feud within a neon‑tinged musical tapestry. Director Timothy Scott Bogart and composer Evan Kidd Bogart stitch Shakespeare’s narrative to a modern pop sensibility (think synth‑laced power ballads that nod to Swiftian craftsmanship). Clara Rugaard’s Juliet and Jamie Ward’s Romeo carry the film’s emotional core, though their duet numbers rarely outshine the production’s more exuberant ensemble set pieces.
Dante Ferretti’s sumptuous costumes—electric crimsons for Capulets, midnight blues for Montagues—pair with Byron Werner’s lensing to conjure an almost hallucinatory version of 14th‑century Italy. Sword fights erupt into choreographed dance‑offs, each cut suggesting a “sword ballet” that reframes violence as stylized pageantry. Filming in real Italian piazzas lends tangible gravity, even when lyrics soar into playful banter.

Juliet & Romeo is the latest in Hollywood's history of Shakespearean movie adaptations, with an all-star cast and spectacular optics to draw audiences in. The names attached to Juliet & Romeo that attracted the most attention at the beginning of its marketing campaign were Pitch Perfect's Rebel Wilson as Lady Capulet and Harry Potter's Jason Isaacs as Lord Montague. The A-list cast also includes Rupert Everett as Lord Capulet, Derek Jacobi as the Friar, and Dan Folger as the Apothecary.
Meanwhile, Clara Rugaard and Jamie Ward star as Juliet and Romeo, respectively, alongside other up-and-coming talent in the younger roles. Writer and director Timothy Scott Boggart is relatively unknown, while the movie is being distributed by independent film company Briar Entertainment. Notably, Juliet & Romeo ambitiously advertises a scholarly nature, its synopsis claiming that it is "based on the real story that inspired William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.

Let’s get something straight: Making William Shakespeare’s plays “cool” is kind of the opposite of cool. The only thing older than trying to make Shakespeare’s plays “hip” is Shakespeare’s actual plays, which were plenty hip to begin with. Hollywood has been trying to hip up those bad boys for a hundred years. You’ll find John Gilbert and Norma Shearer making fun of studio execs trying to fix The Bard way back in “The Hollywood Revue of 1929,” as they squawked wacky lines like “Julie baby, I’m ga-ga about you” and “You’re just about the cookies for me, boyfriend.”
Generally speaking it’s the updated versions of “Romeo & Juliet” that age badly, but these versions can still have value. “West Side Story” remains the best side story. Baz Luhrmann’s “Romeo + Juliet” is the ninetiesest nineties movie that ever tied nines in...

As of September last year, a remake of Guys and Dolls, one of Broadway’s best and most influential musical that was also adapted into a successful Hollywood musical back in 1955, is in the works. The original movie was nominated in four categories at the Oscars, but it did not win any award.
Now, Hollywood is looking to make a remake of the film, which shouldn’t be surprising, seeing how the reboot and remake era is still very much alive. At this moment we don’t know much about the movie, but we do have some rumors.
Recently, it has been reported that Zendaya was offered to play a “lead role” in the movie and now, another casting rumor has surfaced and it is quite interesting.

A diet of romantic literature is a recipe for disappointment in real life, argues French director Laura Piani with “Jane Austen Wrecked My Life,” about an aspiring writer who’s convinced she was born in the wrong century, if only because she still believes in things like soulmates and courtship. Part homage, part referendum on all those love stories that make it look easy, Piani’s just-jaded-enough alternative fills the regrettable gap left by such feel-good classics as “Four Weddings and a Funeral” and the Austen-inspired “Bridget Jones’s Diary.” Sony Pictures Classics plans a limited release for May 23, going wide a week later.

Rebel Wilson has sung, danced, and made viewers laugh through films like Bridesmaids and Pitch Perfect, and now, she's royally dressed to kill. Collider can share an exclusive first look at the multi-talented actress in Juliet & Romeo, a new take on the classic Shakespeare romance that gives it a musical update like never before with a revamped pop soundtrack. Gwyneth Paltrow has exposed Nikki Glaser for trying to bang her ex.
And the best part of this story is that Nikki is not denying that she repeatedly reached out to Ben Affleck in an effort to score a spot in the Batfleck’s bed.
That surprising revelation came during the latest episode of Gwyneth’s podcast.

During a conversation about the dating app Raya, Nikki surprised the Goop goddess by revealing her attempts to bang Ben.
Nikki Glaser says she was rebuffed by Ben Affleck
“When I used to be on Raya and he would come across, [I would give him a] very concentrated check mark ‘yes’ and, like, never [got] it back,” Glaser said.
Gwyneth dated Ben way back in the ’90s, so she obviously wasn’t upset about Nikki’s confession.

"The greatest love story of all time, set to the greatest music of our time." That's one of the hooks for the upcoming Romeo and Juliet adaptation from Briarcliff Entertainment, Juliet & Romeo. Joining Briarcliff in bringing this visionary film to the big screen are global independent music powerhouses Lakeshore Records and Broadway Records, in partnership with Hero Entertainment and Rainmaker Films. The synopsis for the film, which seems to be part of a proposed trilogy, reads as follows:
"Set in 1301 at the end of Medieval times, theJuliet & Romeofranchise finds our most famous Star-Crossed lovers turning the tides on the history Shakespeare based his own story on, as they reveal the truth to the very future of the Empire. But the biggest twist in this most beloved of tales,...

In perhaps the single most charming scene of For Worse, Lauren (Amy Landecker) shares a cigarette with Dave (Bradley Whitford). The characters are near strangers, tossed together by weird and annoying circumstances. But in that moment, their chemistry feels immediate, loose with warmth and crackling with possibility. It just feels right to see them together; this is the kind of connection rom-coms are built around.
Unfortunately, it comes late enough into the 90-minute movie that when it does arrive, you’re left to wonder why the preceding hour-plus hasn’t had more of this spark. For Worse isn’t all bad; bits of it are intriguing and the rest is too anodyne to get worked up about. But it’s hard to shake the disappointment that this is just an okay movie, when it seems like it should’ve been a good one.
Though Landecker has previously established herself as...
