Before becoming a master of the modern Western genre with the Yellowstone franchise and several other action series on Paramount+, Taylor Sheridan wrote Sicario. The action film premiered in 2015 and had Dune director Denis Villeneuve at the helm.
The first film starred Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro, and Josh Brolin. The last two reprised their roles in a less-successful sequel, 2018's Sicario: Day of the Soldado, but the franchise is also expected to continue with a third entry, Sicario: Capos. In a new appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, franchise star Josh Brolin gave an exciting sequel update, confirming Sicario 3 is real.
Around the 43:23 mark, the conversation reached Sicario 3, and the rumors that Brolin, del Toro, and Blunt would reprise their roles. "I mentioned at some point, I don't know, just to be contrary, I was like, 'Yeah, that's never going to happen,' " Brolin started.

The 2005 movie The 40-Year-Old Virgin made a comedy star out of Steve Carell and confirmed Judd Apatow as a comedy hitmaker, and 20 years later, Universal is releasing a new 4K Ultra HD disc to celebrate the film’s legacy. In addition, the film is returning to theaters from August 22nd to 28th, along with Apatow’s Trainwreck, as the Amy Schumer-starring comedy reaches its 10th anniversary.
In The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Carell played an electronics store employee who, as the title reveals, hasn’t had a very active sex life during his four decades on the planet. But, with some help from his co-workers/friends — an incredible ensemble including Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, Romany Malco, and Jane Lynch — as well as the very patient Gilf Trish (Catherine Keener), he’s able to make some big changes.

"Show me a hero and I will write you a tragedy." Those are the words of a famous F. Scott Fitzgerald quote that gives the title of one overlooked HBO series that you might have missed. Following the conclusion of showrunner and journalist David Simon's era defining drama "The Wire," which started as a radically complex look at the drug trade in Baltimore and over its five seasons expanded outwards to encompass every aspect of life in the city, Simon at first attempted to bring a spin-off of the series to life before settling into the War in Iraq miniseries "Generation Kill" and the New Orleans-set drama "Treme."
The common thread across these shows, despite their radically different settings, is a unique, picaresque perspective, following disparate characters whose stories might not intersect directly, but the ramifications of their actions have far-reaching impacts that they might never even be aware of.

He probably wouldn’t have said it at the time, but 2020 was the right year for “Washington Black” composer Cameron Moody to start studying music in college. He’d been in love with it since playing Jedi with his older sibling and identifying early how John Williams’s “Duel of the Fates” transforms that fight sequence in “The Phantom Menace.” Being stuck in lockdown and having to log onto Zoom classes at 6 am every Monday was the unforeseen tradeoff of getting to solve the puzzle of how a chord is voiced or how a texture is built to give all of us the feeling that “Duel of the Fates” does.
Those annoyingly early NYU Zoom classes also offered Moody the opportunity to meet working composers. Sometimes, these folks would give the class clips of their work ahead of time, and then use their class time to workshop students’ best efforts to score those scenes.

Steve Carell has come a long way from being the mild-mannered, socially inept Andy Stitzer from The 40-Year-Old Virgin. After a successful run on The Office, Carell has gone on to diversify with a myriad of roles. Recently, he can be seen in Mountainhead. Our Alex Maidy glowed about Mountainhead as he stated in his review, “Mountainhead shows that Jesse Armstrong’s brand of social commentary is still as biting as it was on Veep, Succession, and Black Mirror. Should he explore this storytelling approach further, Mountainhead proves it can be done in a feature-length running time without wasting a minute. I would have loved for this story to have been more brutal and dark than it was. However, it still works as a great example of how satire can work as entertainment and an equal indictment of the real world. Boasting four impressive performances and another standout from Cory Michael Smith,...

The New York Times has spoken and the publication’s top 100 movies of the 21st century have officially been announced. Dramas, comedies, thrillers, and action flicks abound in the packed list that features movie stars like Tom Cruise and Kirsten Dunst and filmmakers like Steven Soderbergh and David Lynch. Amidst all the excitement, one genre is going largely unsung: horror. It shouldn’t come as a shock to many that the spooky-scary styling isn’t getting as much love as its high-octane or heartfelt brothers and sisters. However, the eighth spot goes to one of not only the greatest genre features of the 21st century, but one that we’d consider to be up there with the greatest of all time. Wedged in between Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away and Michel Gondry’s Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is Jordan Peele’s masterpiece, Get Out.

Everyone has an opinion, though 500 actors and directors shared their own for a new list to declare the 100 best films of the 21st century (so far). With 25 years of releases to pick from, the options were plentiful, but the horror movie that ranked above all others in the genre was an 8-year-old hit that earned widespread acclaim at the time of its release.
On the list, published by The New York Times, Jordan Peele's Get Out landed in the No. 8 spot for the overall best movies of the last 25 years. This was the highest of any horror movie, though there were some other genre films that made the list, including the sci-fi horror flick Under the Skin (No. 69), the horror romance movie Let the Right One In (No. 70), and Darren Aronofsky's psychological horror film Black Swan (No. 81).
Get Out was the first horror movie from writer-director Jordan Peele.

Films have a magical ability to transport us across worlds and time when done right. While fictional tales have their own magic, some stories are so extraordinary, so deeply human, that they deserve to be told on the silver screen.
Such biographical dramas, rooted in real-life events, have the rare power to not only captivate and entertain but also to educate and inspire. These films peel away the layers of history and paint a picture of the triumphs, struggles, and complexities of some of the most remarkable individuals who helped shape the world and occasionally, and made it a better place.
From tales of heroism in the face of unimaginable horrors and adversities to stories of quiet resilience, Hollywood has no shortage of biographical dramas that resonate. Although there are times when the creative flair takes over and adds a bit of dramatic flourish to create a story worthy of cinematic appeal,...

Some people will complain that movies these days feel the need to spell out every little narrative beat. That they have to be made under the assumption that all of the viewers are watching the film and scrolling through TikTok at the same time, giving its actual story the bare minimum of attention. While that might the case with some movies, especially those that are released directly onto streaming platforms, there are still plenty of films out there that don't especially care how hard your noodle has to work to follow along.
From science fiction films with confoundingly complicated premises to psychological thrillers that make both their characters and the audiences start to question the very concept of reality itself, mind-bending films are all over the place. Looks like we’re now setting the dust off those super suits and firing up the Incredimobile because Incredibles 3 is officially on the way. Yep, it’s actually happening this decade. Well, Brad Back was back as the director, but recent reports revealed the powers that be have decided to replace Back with another excellent choice. Additionally, the Parr family is preparing for more action-packed chaos, and we’re already struggling to predict what comes next.
With Incredibles 2 leaving the family mid-mission and baby Jack-Jack flexing more powers than a Marvel crossover, there’s plenty to explore. Whether it’s family therapy or full-blown showdowns, Incredibles 3 is suited up to be Pixar’s next big, bold blast.

Brad Bird, who wrote the screenplays for and directed the first two films in the animated superhero film franchise, is currently writing the screenplay for the third film, which he will produce alongside Dana Murray (Soul).
The first two films follow Bob and Helen Parr (Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter), who are better known to the wider world as Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl. The Croods is back, and streaming numbers prove it still rocks, 12 years later. With a solid 71% Rotten Tomatoes score, this prehistoric animated adventure starring Ryan Reynolds has stormed back into relevance thanks to a new surge in viewership on streaming platforms.
Despite flying under the radar for a while, The Croods is once again capturing hearts with its quirky humor, chaotic family dynamics, and Reynolds’ charm as Guy. The Marvel Cinematic Universe's latest big-screen feature, Thunderbolts*, tells the tale of the titular former villains trying to overcome their past traumas, with the Void spaces reminding them of their most painful memories ad nauseam. The superhero blockbuster's director reveals that the inspiration for those spaces came from a classic '90s film exploring the subconscious in the critically acclaimed Being John Malkovich.
Marvel Studios (via X) unveiled an in-depth behind-the-scenes featurette chronicling the Void spaces, created by the dark alter-ego of Lewis Pullman's Sentry, The Void, and how they were conceptualized. Director Jake Schreier revealed that one of the projects that inspired this concept was Being John Malkovich, the hit fantasy comedy chronicling the future MCU star.

The book-to-screen adaptation is a tried and true formula that has led to some of the best movies of all time, like "Jurassic Park" and "The Wizard of Oz," which unknowingly paved the way for the success of "Wicked." However, not all adaptations receive the same praise. Movies like "Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief" and the messy adaptation of "The Dark Tower" have been criticized for glossing over too many details. This proves that not all books, no matter how easy they might seem to adapt were meant for the big screen.
While some books are destined for a cinematic future, others have been deemed unfilmable. Perhaps a plot relies too heavily on mystical beings, sometimes tales are controversial and unsettling, which could turn away moviegoers. It's a label that some filmmakers walk away from, while others...

A recent rumor that David Zaslav might be thinking about making a major change at Warner Bros. following a number of box office disappointments appears to have been confirmed.
According to Bloomberg, the Warner Bros. Discovery CEO is currently engaged in "early and informal" talks with potential successors to studio heads Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy. Joker: Folie à Deux's abysmal box office performance is believed to be a major reason for the change, but Todd Phillips' critically-panned sequel is not the only recent WB movie to underperform at the box office.
Bong Joon Ho's Mickey 17 will reportedly end up costing the studio between $75 million to $80 million over the course of its theatrical run, and the studio is also coming off another bomb in Alto Knights - although Zaslav is believed to have greenlit the movie himself despite others voicing concerns about it having limited prospects.

For Terry Knickerbocker, the call came in the dead of night.
It was Sam Rockwell, his longtime friend and client. Knickerbocker, a renowned acting coach based in New York, has worked with Rockwell on every gig since the early 1990s, helping Rockwell find the shades and contours of everyone from Chuck Barris to Bob Fosse.
So close are the two, Rockwell served as best man at Knickerbocker’s wedding and thanked Knickerbocker by name when he accepted his 2018 Oscar for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
Rockwell, 56, was calling from South Africa, where for months he had been working on a grueling shoot for Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die, a sci-fi feature also starring Juno Temple from director Gore Verbinski. The film requires him to recite a 10-page monologue.
“We worked on that monologue for months just to hit all the points,” Knickerbocker, 69, says.
But it was not that movie that he was calling about.

Mere days after the first season of Yellowstone premiered in 2018, Taylor Sheridan penned the screenplay for a crime thriller that’s becoming a streaming hit nearly seven years later. Sheridan wrote Sicario: Day of the Soldado, which is a direct sequel to 2015’s Sicario, although it only returned Benicio del Toro and Josh Brolin and not Emily Blunt and Jon Bernthal. Sicario 2 hit Paramount+ not long ago, and the film wasted no time cracking the top 10, sitting at #4 at the time of writing. Sicario 2 earned scores of 62% from critics and 66% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, which falls well below the 92% and 85% scores of the original. Matthew Modine, Isabela Merced, and Catherine Keener also star in Sicario: Day of the Soldado.

Most of Denis Villeneuve's films received critical acclaim. Although the director is currently best known for his work on the Dune adaptations, he has also directed several other successful films, including 2015's Sicario.
The action crime thriller Sicario is one of the best CIA films of all time. The movie marked Yellowstone creator's screenwriting debut, and the team up was very successful. Shortly after its debut on Netflix on Mar. 2, Sicario became a hit on the streaming platform, Tudum reveals.

Todd Phillips' Joker: Folie à Deux will likely go down as one of the most notorious flops in comic book movie history, as the sequel's box office underperformance and negative critical reception were made all the more surprising by the first film's huge level of success.
Though the downbeat musical does have its defenders, Phillips' creative choices just didn't click with the majority of cinema goers. The lead performances from Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga did come in for a lot of praise, but it didn't stop the pair from being nominated for - and winning - several Razzie awards.
Gaga was the guest host for this week's episode of Saturday Night Live, and used the opportunity to take a few playful jabs at the movie, and her own Razzie win.

Taylor Sheridan's name is now synonymous with the hit Paramount+ Western franchise Yellowstone. However, a decade ago, years before Yellowstone began, he wrote the script for 2015's Sicario.
Sicario, which comes from Dune director Denis Villeneuve, is now available to stream on Netflix. The film follows a principled FBI agent, Kate Macer (Emily Blunt), who is assigned to a task force to destabilize the Mexican drug cartels, working alongside a shady CIA agent, Matt Graver (Josh Brolin), and CIA-trained assassin Alejandro Gillick (Benicio del Toro). The movie was a major hit that led to a film series which, so far, consists of two installments.

Jane Fonda is urging Hollywood to confront these fraught times with empathy.
“What we, actors, create is empathy. Our job is to understand another human being so profoundly that we can touch their souls,” said Fonda, who was honored on Sunday night with SAG’s life achievement award. “And make no mistake, empathy is not weak or woke. By the way, woke just means you give a damn about other people.”
During her lively speech, Fonda made oblique references to the political environment and the Trump administration’s drive to cut federal jobs. “A whole lot of people are going to be really hurt by what is happening,” she said. “Even if they’re of a different political persuasion, we need to not judge but listen from our hearts.”
Fonda also spoke to the power of unions — like SAG-AFTRA — to protect people during unsettling moments in history. “I’m a big believer in unions.

Rick Riordan's first Percy Jackson novel, "The Lightning Thief," was first published in 2005, riding on a wave of ultra-popular young adult fantasy literature that persists to this day. One can easily see that the "Percy Jackson & the Olympians" books lift a lot of ideas from J.K. Rowling's blockbuster Harry Potter novels and follow a lot of the same story beats. Both were about young men who, while living unhappy lives among the hoi polloi, discover they actually possess royal blood. Their previously unknown lineages allow them access to worlds of magic and/or deities, which they are able to explore through either a wizards' boarding school (in Harry Potter) or a demigod summer camp (in Percy Jackson).
Both Potter and Jackson also have to face off against intergenerational enemies that are directly linked to their absent parents; with Potter, it was a wizard named Voldemort, and with Jackson,...

The franchise was conceived by Donald Paul Bellisario, a former sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps who had previously found success with the original Magnum P.I., starring Tom Selleck. Jag was the first show in the franchise, followed by NCIS. Since then, there have been five babies, namely : NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, NCIS: Hawaiʻi, NCIS: Sydney, and NCIS: Origins.
All NCIS shows stick to the same narrative formula. The Major Case Response Team (McRt) of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service of the United States Department of the Navy investigates crimes committed by or linked to members of the United States Navy and Marine Corps (Usmc), and their associated branches of government. Over 1000 episodes are available across all shows, hence fans of military procedurals have no shortage of stories to follow, but fans will also love Basic,...

Months after her latest film Joker: Folie à Deux opened to bad reviews and very disappointing box office, Lady Gaga is sharing her perspective on the matter.
“People just sometimes don’t like some things,” Gaga told Elle in an interview published Tuesday. ‘It’s that simple. And I think to be an artist, you have to be willing for people to sometimes not like it. And you keep going even if something didn’t connect in the way that you intended.” She adds that the fear of failure is what can be really damaging: “When that makes its way into your life, that can be hard to get control of. It’s part of the mayhem.”
Todd Phillips’ musical sequel, which saw Joaquin Phoenix reprise his Oscar winning role of the DC villain and also starred Gaga, followed the first 2019 film, which at one point was the highest grossing...

Joker was a record-breaking $1 billion success in 2019, landing countless award nominations and even a "Best Actor" trophy for lead star Joaquin Phoenix.
Despite him and filmmaker Todd Phillips vowing to never make a sequel, they reunited for Joker: Folie À Deux and turned to singer and actor Lady Gaga to bring Lee Quinzel to life. Given a massive budget by Warner Bros. - the studio was likely convinced more box office success was guaranteed - Phoenix and Phillips chose to make a musical that, ultimately, no one wanted to see.
That's evident from a dismal $206 million haul at the global box office and the only awards Joker: Folie À Deux looks set to win this year are Razzies.
Elle recently ran a profile on Gaga and asked her about what proved to be a rare career misstep with Phillips' DC Comics adaptation.
"People just sometimes don't like some things," Gaga acknowledged.

When it comes to terrifying horror movies, many horror fanatics love the blend of suspense, gore, and jump scares. Some of the most successful horror movies and franchises center around thrills and bloodshed. Audiences love the shock factor and excitement that comes from gore. But looking past the blood, some of the creepiest horror movies center around a horrifying journey and psychological torment.
A good horror story shines on its own and allows audiences to immerse themselves in the creative storytelling without needing the extra, over-the-top violence. Overlooked suspenseful horror movie The Others centers around a haunting atmosphere and creates an overwhelming sense of dread without needing a single drop of blood added to the story. Well-written creepy narratives and empathetic characters make the perfect blend for a compelling horror plot.

Golden Globes Host Nikki Glaser Reveals Controversial Joker: Folie À Deux Joke She Cut From The Show
Comedian Nikki Glaser has been widely praised for her hosting duties at this past Sunday's Golden Globes.
During her monologue, Glaser took aim at Diddy, Ben Affleck, Ariana Grande, and more, though the jokes - which definitely pushed the boundaries at times - didn't feature the same spiteful undertone as when Ricky Gervais hosted, for example.
Still, the host (who many of you may not realise voiced DC's Cheetah in Robot Chicken a few years ago) did leave a handful of jokes on the cutting room floor which she decided went perhaps a step too far.
Among them was a brutal jab at last October's Joker: Folie à Deux.
Glaser did poke fun at the failed musical on air and asked the audience, "Where is their table? Oh, that’s right, they’re not here." However, a far more controversial version saw her say, "I saw ‘Joker 2’ and, you know,...
