Freddy Fazbear brought the frights to San Diego Comic-Con during Universal Pictures and Blumhouse’s Hall H panel for “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2,” the sequel to the successful 2023 horror game adaptation.

The panel came hours after the film’s trailer was released, revealing the revenge plans of the first film’s murderous animatronic robots.

In a conversation moderated by Juju “Straw Hat Goofy” Green, director Emma Tammi (who also helmed the first film) teased that the upcoming movie features “more than three times as many animatronics” as the first film. She praised collaboration with the Jim Henson Company for the film’s robots, adding, “We we really wanted to make the electronics feel and move as practically as possibly, versus the CG route, which is also incredible, but it just didn’t feel right for the nostalgia that Freddy’s invokes. We met with the Henson team, and they totally got that.

If the latest PVOD charts are any indication, dinosaurs will never go out of style. 32 years after wowing audiences in theaters, Jurassic Park has once again become a hit, this time on iTunes.

According to FlixPatrol, as of July 9, Jurassic Park is ranked No. 9 on iTunes' Top Movies list. Steven Spielberg's 1993 sci-fi classic is in good company, as two of its sequels, 2015's Jurassic World and 2018's Jurassic World Dominion, are slightly above it at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. Based on Michael Crichton's 1990 novel of the same name, Jurassic Park follows a group of visitors as they struggle to survive and escape Isla Nublar — home of Jurassic Park — after a catastrophic power failure shuts off the safety precautions, allowing the de-extinct dinosaurs, including the vicious T-Rex and velociraptors, to roam free.

This week sees the release of Jurassic World: Rebirth, and it seems like it’s being met with a bit of a shrug from fans, even if it’s still going to make a solid amount of cash—these movies always do. Jurassic Park has become a franchise for Universal, and a profitable one at that. Yet, none of the films have had the magic the first one did. But what magic was that? I’m glad you asked.

You see, younger audiences may not appreciate it now, but Jurassic Park gave us Dinosaurs. The new Jurassic World movies are full of CGI dinosaurs, but we had never seen them convincingly portrayed on the big screen before. At best, we’d seen—admittedly impressive—stop-motion versions such as those made by Willis O’Brien and Ray Harryhausen, but Spielberg’s Jurassic Park truly brought them to life in a way no one could have ever imagined.

Deep in the jungle of Isla Nublar, game warden Robert Muldoon instructs a group of park employees on how to handle the transfer of a deadly Velociraptor. As he grips his shotgun, Muldoon shouts orders like “Pushing team, move in there,” and “Loading team, step away,” while warning “I want tasers on full charge!” But when the gatekeeper goes to open the container to put the raptor in its cage, the dinosaur rams the back of the container, moving it backwards and causing the gatekeeper to fall. Muldoon tries to save the gatekeeper, but fails. The man is devoured by the ferocious creature.

After six movies — including three good ones — the opening scene of the first Jurassic Park remains one of the most gruesome in the franchise. But to assure audiences that death by dino can be fun, too, director Steven Spielberg made the very next death in the first movie far more lighthearted.

Michael Alaimo, a theater and film actor known for his roles in “Space Jam” and the Oscar-nominated “The China Syndrome,” died Friday, May 2, in Burbank, Calif. He was 86.

Alaimo’s death was confirmed to Variety by Alaimo’s daughter, longtime TV PR and communications executive Gabriella Alaimo Thomas. While a cause of death was not disclosed, an official statement said that he “passed away peacefully.”
