Image
Jonathan Lapaglia was shockingly fired from his job as the host of Australian Survivor and now he says he was blindsided by the news.

The 55-year-old actor and TV personality has been the host of Network 10′s iteration of Survivor ever since it began in 2016 and now he has been axed from the show.

“Australian Survivor has seen some of the most epic blindsides over the last 10 years, but this one might just be the craziest of them all….because it happened to me,” Jonathan began his post.

Keep reading to find out more…

He continued, “I received a call from the Network thanking me for all my hard work and dedication to the show but for next season they are ‘going in a different direction’. Actors You Didn't Realize Were In Frasier
Image
Kelsey Grammer has inhabited Dr. Frasier Crane on television for over 40 years (though not consecutively). Starting with his first appearance on "Cheers" in 1984, the acclaimed actor has taken the beloved psychiatrist from the friendly bar in Boston where everyone knows your name to his hometown of Seattle for a long-running spinoff and back to Boston for a short-lived (but hopefully extended) stint as a Harvard professor. He even stopped by Nantucket for an Emmy-nominated appearance at the tight-knit commuter airport on "Wings."

In all those years as Dr. Crane, Grammer has acted alongside a number of incredible guest stars. In fact, he encountered multiple in a single episode of "Frasier" since many prominent performers and personalities appeared as callers on the good doctor's popular radio show. Iconic "Superman" actor Christopher Reeve, rock music icon Eddie Van Halen, sitcom royalty Mary Tyler Moore, and prolific director Penny Marshall were just a...

Sean Penn Defends Woody Allen Against ‘Cancellation’ Over Abuse Allegations, Would Work With Him Again
Image
Sean Penn expressed doubt that Woody Allen sexually abused his daughter, Dylan Farrow, and stated that he has no qualms about working with the director in the future.

In an open letter to The New York Times in 2014, Farrow came forward to accuse Allen, her adopted father, of molesting her when she was seven. The accusation came a few months after Farrow found out that Allen had begun a relationship with his then-21-year-old adopted daughter Soon-Yi Previn. Allen has long denied Farrow’s allegations and was never charged with the crime. Four years later, Farrow wrote an op-ed in The Los Angeles Times, positing the question, “Why has the #MeToo revolution spared Woody Allen?”

Allen recently said that he may not make another movie due to his “cancellation” by Hollywood.

Penn previously worked with Allen in the 1999 musical comedy Sweet and Lowdown, along with actors Uma Thurman, Anthony Lapaglia and Samantha Morton.

The Bonkers Plan to Reopen Alcatraz Should At Least Honor Phil Hartman
Image
Possibly because he fell asleep watching The Rock on Max, President Donald Trump recently unveiled a bold new plan to reopen Alcatraz, the notorious San Francisco prison that’s been inactive for longer than Nicolas Cage has been alive.

This deeply unserious plan faces a number of major logistical challenges, from the “avalanche of lawsuits” it would invite, to the fact that the National Park Service has already spent millions preserving the historic site as a tourist destination, to the staggering costs involved with turning it back into a working prison, which have been estimated at somewhere “between $235 million and $370 million.”

Also, the island’s watery surroundings may not be quite as intimidating as they once were, considering that “hundreds of people every year participate in a 1.5-mile swim out to the island.”

It seems pretty clear that this wacky idea isn’t ever going to happen. But on the off chance that it does,...

‘Without a Trace’ Creator Says He Has Ideas for a Reboot
Image
Could “Without a Trace” be the next beloved crime procedural to get the TV reboot treatment? Series creator Hank Steinberg has “some notions” about what it could look like should he get the green light.

The original “Without a Trace” ran from 2002 and 2009 on CBS, following the cases of a missing persons unit of the FBI in New York City. The series stars Anthony Lapaglia, Poppy Montgomery, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Enrique Murciano and Roselyn Sánchez. The show won an Emmy Award for guest actor in a drama series for Charles S. Dutton in 2003 as well as the Emmy Award for outstanding art direction.

“If I had it my way, it might be more character-driven, shorter order, one case of the year kind of thing,” Steinberg told TheWrap in a recent interview. “That’s the way I would approach it if I can get the entities that own the material to go along with it.

Mina Sundwall's 10 Best Movies & TV Shows Ranked
Image
Mina Sundwall is only in the early stages of her career in movies and on television, but she's already accumulated a significant number of memorable and impressive performances. Born on October 23, 2001, Mina Sundwall got her career started early, appearing in an episode of Celebrity Ghost Stories at the age of 11. This was followed by a two-year gap before she earned two more roles, in A Good Marriage and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Since then, Sundwall has regularly worked in film and TV, even starring in some of her projects.

Sundwall has had what is, in comparison to other actors who debuted in the 2010s, an unusually classical path to success. With streaming services offering new movies and TV shows at an almost unsustainable rate, young actors have found themselves thrust into the spotlight after only one or two performances. Sundwall is a little different. She got her start very young,...

‘Mixed Nuts’ 30 Years Later: Delia Ephron Is “Completely Shocked” At 1994 Christmas Flop’s Cult Status
Image
Although it failed to captivate critics and audiences alike amid its initial release, Mixed Nuts has all the makings of a holiday classic.

Marking the movie’s 30th anniversary, co-writer Delia Ephron reflected on its cult status to Deadline as she remembered her and late sister Nora Ephron’s little-known 1994 Christmas film, “a great fun comedy that we wrote together” after the success of Sleepless in Seattle (1993).

“I do not believe it got good reviews,” she recently recalled. “I’m not someone who ever reads reviews, good or bad, so that’s not something I know what they said or anything, but I certainly know that it wasn’t initially a hit.”

Delia Ephron added, “But that is the weird thing with movies. They’re not, and then suddenly, they get this cult following of people who absolutely love them. And then I look at them again and I think,...

All 48 Stephen King Movies, Ranked Worst to Best
Image
Stephen King isn’t just an author by this point: He’s an institution, a legacy of classic horror stories that capture our imaginations, fuel our nightmares, and speak — when he’s at his best — to our shared experiences as flawed, emotional beings. The best King stories scare so many of us that we all feel connected, and even the worst are usually pretty fun.

King’s books and short stories quickly became hit movies, many of them celebrated in their time, and some flopped so hard that hardly anybody remembers them. Cataloguing every adaptation might be a fool’s errand, so we made some tough choices and decided to focus only on his theatrical releases.

And even then, there are so many King adaptations that it gets tricky. The sequels to King’s work rarely have anything to do with the source material, so they’re all disqualified. We...

Lily Sullivan Movies & TV Shows
Image
Australian actor Lily Sullivan may not be an A-list star yet, but she is one well worth watching out for and her movies and TV roles prove it. Sullivan acted in her first film when she was 17 years old in a movie called Mental. Mental featured Sullivan as one of a family of five kids who are overseen by a hotheaded new nanny. Mental was released to mixed reviews upon its release in 2012.

Now 31 years old, Sullivan has gone on to be in a smattering of other projects since then. Mental was her gateway into numerous other roles that have allowed the actor to continue to have a career that, while low-profile, is worth reviewing. Throughout her film and television roles, the actor has displayed her strength in a wide array of genres. Sullivan's career continues on today, with recent work that proves even more that she is one to watch out for.

Alex Proyas
I, Robot director Alex Proyas is currently in pre-production on an adaptation of Karel Capek’s seminal 1920 play, R.U.R.

Alex Proyas, director of such movies as The Crow, Dark City, I, Robot and more besides, is currently in pre-production on a film called R.U.R, it’s been revealed. It’s based on the 1920 play of the same name originally written in 1920, and is famous for introducing the word ‘robot’ into the sci-fi lexicon.

Proyas has written the screenplay himself, and if the brief description published by Deadline is anything to go by, it’ll be at least somewhat close to Capek’s original story. Set in a future where robots are mass-produced on an island factory called Rossum’s Universal Robots, the technology has long since spread worldwide, largely replacing human labour. The robots’ proliferation leads to much debate about their use as slave labour, and a pressure group called...

“That almost always helps an actor establish a voice”: Bruce Timm’s Genius Trick Helped Lex Luthor Actor Find the Perfect Voice in All-Star Superman
Image
Bruce Timm is known for having very unique approaches to the characters he brings to life. On top of his innate understanding of comics, he also brings a sense of uniqueness to each of his projects, which has made him one of the best people in the DC Animated Universe. Unfortunately, not everyone can understand his approach very easily.

Bruce Timm’s All-Star Superman

Sometimes, the producer has to fight for his vision or explain it to the actors so that they can perfectly capture what he wants them to do. However, often, even language fails, and no amount of explanation can get the point across.

SUGGESTEDPalm Royale Review: Despite an All-Star Cast, This Series Rarely Rises to Its Potential

Being the legend that he is, it would seem that Timm also has a go-to plan for such a situation, using his skills as an animator and artist.

CBS' Cold Case Revival Is the Best Crime Drama Idea in Years
Image
The CBS crime drama Cold Case was vastly underrated, with a stellar cast and thoughtfully crafted episodes. CBS is reportedly developing a new Cold Case series, which would bring back at least one actor. The potential Cold Case revival can capitalize on renewed interest in cold cases and provide a unique TV experience.

A Cold Case revival might finally get the CBS crime drama the recognition it's always deserved -- but more than that, it's exactly what would spice up a predictable genre. Detective Lilly Rush and her colleagues were a breath of fresh air when Cold Case premiered in 2003, and they developed a loyal fan base over seven seasons and more than 150 episodes because they didn't do things the procedural way.

Now CBS is reportedly developing a new Cold Case series, and there's every reason to get excited about it. The characters and storytelling are worth revisiting, especially with...

Dripping with attitude, pining, and real-life drama, Empire Records taps into the struggles of a generation by exploring social pressure, the importance of found family, and the power of music as a healing tool. Stephen King at an event for The Manchurian Candidate (2004)
‘Big Driver’ and ‘A Good Marriage’ Make a Dark Double Stephen King Feature [The Losers’ Club Podcast]
Stephen King at an event for The Manchurian Candidate (2004)
In all of Stephen King’s massive catalog, few works are as bleak as his 2010 novella collection Full Dark, No Stars. Rather than supernatural entities, these four dark tales feature human monsters and deal with the horrors that live inside the human heart. Two novellas serve as mirror images of each other, exploring the female response to predatory men. “Big Driver” follows cozy mystery writer Tess Thorne on a mission of revenge against the stranger who raped her and left her for dead. “A Good Marriage” centers Darcy Anderson, a happily married woman faced with a horrifying choice when she discovers her husband’s secret life.

Both novellas were faithfully adapted into feature films in the year 2014 – for better or worse. Premiering on Lifetime, Big Driver tackles King’s rape-revenge story with Maria Bello staring as the vigilante writer and Olympia Dukakis as her literary detective. Ann Dowd and Joan Jett...

Boy Swallows Universe (2024)
Adapted from Trent Dalton’s 2019 novel, Boy Swallows Universe is a sprawling coming-of-age story about a precocious teen, Eli Bell (Felix Cameron), surrounded and raised by a motley crew of outlaws and outcasts in a rough suburb of Brisbane, Australia, in the 1980s. Eli’s loyal older brother, Gus (Lee Tiger Halley), hasn’t uttered a word since he was eight, and their step-father, Lyle (Travis Fimmel), is a small-time heroin dealer. Also milling about town are Slim (Bryan Brown), a convicted murderer, and Teddy (Ben O’Toole), an associate of Lyle’s with a soft spot for Eli’s loving but gullible mother, Frankie (Phoebe Tonkin).

Each of the show’s seven episodes depicts a different chapter of Eli’s colorful adolescence, a structural device that allows Boy Swallows Universe to cover ground at a lively pace. No event is dwelt on too long before, true to the reality of teen life,...

Frasier's Anthony Lapaglia Questions If There's A Place For Simon Moon In The Reboot
Image
2023 was the year Frasier Crane returned to the small screen following a 20-year break. The "Frasier" revival brought Kelsey Grammer's beloved psychiatrist into the streaming era with a 10-episode series that saw the titular doctor return to Boston some 30 years after he left "Cheers" to star in his own sitcom. That sitcom would, of course, become one of the most celebrated examples of the genre, following Frasier as he started a new life in Seattle alongside his brother Niles (David Hyde Pierce), father Martin (John Mahoney), and their live-in housekeeper Daphne (Jane Leeves).

It was this supporting cast, along with Peri Gilpin as Frasier's talk radio show producer, Roz, that made the show a classic — though, calling them supporting characters isn't really fair. Despite Kelsey Grammer's not-so-modest opinion that his character was the key to the success of "Frasier," Niles, Martin, Daphne, and Roz were equally as important. Sadly,...

Bebe Glazer Was the Best Character on ‘Frasier’
Image
It’s Frasier Week at IndieWire. Grab some tossed salad and scrambled eggs, settle into your coziest easy chair, and join us. We’re listening.

Over the course of its 11 seasons, “Frasier” won a slew of Emmy Awards. Actually, it earned 37 out of 107 nominations, including five for guest actors ranging from Jean Smart to Anthony Lapaglia. But somehow, someway, even amidst the glut of gold showered upon Frasier’s cashmere-clad shoulders, the show’s stealth secret weapon never scored even a nomination for her 11 episodes.

“Frasier” fans know there is only one person it could possibly be: The irresistible, indefatigable, and indelible Harriet Sansom Harris as Frasier’s agent, Bebe Glazer. And Bebe was exactly the type of fast-talking snake charmer who could make that alliteration seem not just virtuosic but mesmeric.

Every Bebe episode is the best Bebe episode because Harris (who scored her career-first Emmy nomination for “Hacks...

Summer of Sam: Michael Imperioli visited a witch and used otherworldly means to get Spike Lee movie made
Michael Imperioli at an event for The Lovely Bones (2009)
Michael Imperioli may be best known for playing Christopher Moltisanti on the TV series The Sopranos, but he has over 100 other screen acting credits and several writing credits (including multiple episodes of The Sopranos). His first writing credit came on 1999 crime drama Summer of Sam (watch it Here), which was directed by Spike Lee… and during an interview for the documentary Ghosts of the Chelsea Hotel (and Other Rock & Roll Stories), Imperioli revealed that he visited a witch and used otherworldly means in an effort to get Summer of Sam into production!

Scripted by Imperioli, Lee, and Victor Colicchio, Summer of Sam has the following synopsis: During the summer of 1977, a killer known as the Son of Sam keeps all of New York City on edge with a series of brutal murders. The philandering Vinny unwittingly almost becomes a victim of the psychopath, and soon he and numerous people in his orbit — including his wife,...

Kelsey Grammer on Why Frasier Needed to Return: 'We Were Funny Together'
Image
Kelsey Grammer is returning to the role of Frasier Crane for a Frasier revival on Paramount+, and hopefully, by now, he's figured out what to do with those tossed salad and scrambled eggs. It's been nearly two full decades since Grammer last signed off as Frasier, which ended its 11-season run in 2004. In recent years, Grammer had been working to get a revival off the ground, and it was announced last year that it was officially happening at Paramount+. Filming on the first season has since been completed and may potentially premiere on the streaming platform this fall.

So why was Grammer trying so hard to revisit Frasier, leading to this revival series happening? In a new interview with The Times, he explains how he's not so different from his Frasier Crane character, and it was perhaps inevitable for the two to have their paths cross again later in life.

The Cast Of Empire Records: Where They Are Now
Image
Empire Records is a classic coming-of-age comedy-drama from the '90s with a cast of actors who were relatively unknown in 1995 but went on to have successful and prolific careers in Hollywood. Directed by Allan Moyle (Pump Up the Volume), Empire Records depicts just two days at an independent record store and follows the complicated relationships of the young employees. The store is up to be sold to a large national chain, but the store’s manager plans to buy out the owner. A gambling problem, a washed-up singer, and a disgruntled customer combine to make what could be the final day of the store a very interesting one.

The movie was a commercial and critical flop. It only earned $273,000 at the box office (via Box Office Mojo), and has a 31% on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite this, Empire Records has taken on a cult fascination since its release in the mid-90s.

Original Frasier Star Opens Up On Revival Show (& Why They Won’t Return)
Image
One original Frasier star wants to appear in the revival, but he's well aware that it may not happen. Kelsey Grammer spearheads the Paramount+ reboot both in front and behind the screen, reprising Frasier Crane and serving as an executive producer. He has confirmed that some characters from the Seattle-based series will appear in the Frasier revival, although none of them will be mainstays.

In light of that, Anthony Lapaglia tells Globe World News Echo that he is eager to reprise his role as Simon Moon — Daphne's no-good brother in the new Frasier show. However, he is being realistic that he may not be brought back in the Paramount+ revival. Read his full quote below:

“I would do it in a heartbeat. But I’m pretty sure that I’m not in the architecture of the new [series]. I think the new one will be slightly different. John Mahoney is not there,...

‘Florida Man’ (2023). Series on Netflix: Entertainment as usual
Image
Florida Man is a Netflix series created and directed by Donald Todd and starring Édgar Ramírez and Abadía Lee, is a drama in the world of mobsters full of entanglements.

An “American-style” thriller that leaves us the best and the least good of the entertainment industry: the system knows how to create a great production without risking the slightest.

Without being salient, it has all the elements of an 80’s thriller, those that didn’t go down in history and didn’t pretend to, but that gave us so many good moments.

About the Series

A film that does not want to stand out and that, full of desires to achieve in the cinematographic aspect, is born without the taste needed to be outstanding, but as a perfect television product in which good professionals get, without too much effort, “just another day at the office”.

A Florida Man tastes like a “serial” series,...

Why ‘Florida Man’ Had Anthony Lapaglia Scuba Diving With Edgar Ramírez
Image
Meet Mike Valentine (Edgar Ramírez), a resourceful guy embroiled in one twisty Elmore Leonard-esque mystery after another. An ex-cop with a gambling addiction, Mike reluctantly agrees to pay off a debt to petulant Philly mobster Moss Yankov (Emory Cohen) by heading to Central Florida to find fiery Delly West (Abbey Lee), Moss’ runaway girlfriend. That task kicks off a set of comedic turns in Florida Man, a seven-episode series peppered with mighty shady characters. One of many complications Mike comes up against in the Sunshine State, where he doesn’t like to admit he’s from, is his father, retired police chief Sonny Valentine (Anthony Lapaglia). “My character’s untrustworthy,” explains Lapaglia. That’s an understatement. “He has been out of Mike’s life for quite a while, but they have a healthy distrust of each other.” Though Sonny tries mending fences, life for the pair is complicated. “Something...
