Patty Maloney, ‘Far Out Space Nuts’ and ‘Star Wars Holiday Special’ Actress, Dies at 89
Image
Patty Maloney, the 3-foot-11 actress who played the alien Honk on the Sid & Marty Krofft family show Far Out Space Nuts and Chewbacca’s son, Lumpy, on the long-lamented Star Wars Holiday Special, has died. She was 89.

Maloney had suffered several strokes over the years and died Monday in hospice care in Winter Park, Florida, her brother, Dave Myrabo, told The Hollywood Reporter. “For a little person growing up in a big world, she did everything she wanted to do,” he said.

Maloney did lots of work alongside the 3-foot-10 Billy Barty. The two appeared together in the Wizard of Oz feature Under the Rainbow (1981), starring Chevy Chase, and on episodes of Little House on the Prairie, Charlie’s Angels, The Love Boat, Trapper John, M.D. and more.

Far Out Space Nuts, starring Bob Denver and Chuck McCann as bumbling maintenance workers turned accidental space travelers, aired for one season (1975-76) on CBS.

Why Farrah Fawcett Left Charlie's Angels After One Season
Image
The 1976 action series "Charlie's Angels" was a massive success for a very simple reason: the lead actresses were dazzling. Yes, the premise was fun, but most of the show's fans will sooner talk about how the original Angels -- Jaclyn Smith, Kate Jackson, and Farrah Fawcett -- were objects of their crushes. The makers of "Charlie's Angels" seemingly spent just as much time filming the Angels running in slow-motion as they did setting up plots or working on character development.

The series followed three recent graduates of the LAPD's police academy who, despite their excellent fighting and crime-stopping skills, are given menial, sexist jobs that do not challenge them. Instead, they pursue a job with a secretive private investigation company, run by a wealthy, off-screen benefactor named Charlie Townsend (John Forsythe). He gives them assignments in secret (Charlie has a lot of enemies) and nicknames them his "Angels."

The series progressed for five seasons,...

Image
Philip Rogers, a producer with credits including the 1960s ABC sitcom Love on a Rooftop and the 1988 action film Shoot to Kill, starring Sidney Poitier, has died. He was 90.

Rogers died Feb. 27 of leiomyosarcoma at his home in Las Vegas, his wife of 49 years, Stephanie Rogers, told The Hollywood Reporter.

As president of Century Park Pictures, Rogers served as an executive producer on Shoot to Kill, which was directed by Roger Spottiswoode and also starred Tom Berenger and Kirstie Alley.

Later, he headed the PhiliPiCo Pictures banner, where in 1996 and ’97 he developed and produced for Lifetime the telefilms The Haunting of Lisa, starring Cheryl Ladd, and The Hired Heart, starring Penelope Ann Miller.

After moving from Los Angeles to Las Vegas in 2000, he produced another telefilm, the 2001 straight-to-video thriller Blind Terror, starring Nastassja Kinski.

Born on July 26, 1934, in Oxnard, California, Rogers as a youngster was signed to an acting contract at 20th Century Fox.

Charlie’s Angels: The Show That Empowered Women and Changed TV Forever
Image
When Charlie’s Angels premiered in 1976, it wasn’t just another crime drama — it was a revolution.

For the first time, three women were the stars of an action-packed TV series, solving crimes, going undercover, and looking fabulous while doing it.

But beneath the glossy exterior of glamorous disguises and high-octane adventures, the show reflected the growing complexities of feminism in the 1970s.

(ABC/Screenshot)

It walked a tightrope between empowerment and exploitation, earning both praise and criticism.

Behind the scenes, contract disputes, casting shake-ups, and creative tensions added to the drama, while the Angels themselves became icons who transcended the small screen.

This is the story of how Charlie’s Angels broke barriers, set new standards, and left a legacy that continues to resonate.

A Glitzy Start: What Made It Revolutionary

When Charlie’s Angels debuted, TV audiences had never seen anything like it.

Women had starred in shows before — Diana Rigg...

Chuck Woolery, Host of ‘Wheel of Fortune’ and ‘Love Connection,’ Dies at 83
Image
Chuck Woolery, the charismatic game show host who kicked off the long run of Wheel of Fortune before spending 11 years playing matchmaker on Love Connection, has died. He was 83.

His friend and podcast co-host Mark Young told TMZ that Woolery died Saturday at his home in Texas, and he posted about it on X. No other details were immediately available.

Woolery started out in show business as a singer in the orchestral pop band The Avant-Garde, whose most famous song, “Naturally Stoned,” made it to No. 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1968. The tune later served as the theme song for his (very) short-lived Game Show Network reality series in 2003.

After the Kentucky native performed “Delta Dawn” on The Merv Griffin Show, Griffin offered him a chance to audition as the host of a new game show he had just developed called Shopper’s Bazaar. Woolery beat out former 77 Sunset Strip...

Where Are These Former DWTS Pro's Today?
Image
With over 30 seasons, Dancing With the Stars has seen major celebrities put on dancing shoes for a chance to win the coveted mirrorball trophy. However, the dancing professionals responsible for making these celebs look like naturals on the dance floor have become famous in their own right.

Pros like siblings Julianne Hough and Derek Hough have become household names, while dancers Sasha Farber and Gleb Savchenko are making headlines for their showmances (and hilarious TikToks).

There have been several pros throughout the history of DWTS. Some have become more famous than others, but here's a low down on the pros that seemingly disappeared from the spotlight once they exited the show.

The Only Major Actors Still Alive From 1976's Charlie's Angels
Image
During the mid-1970s, television producer Aaron Spelling and the writing duo of Ivan Goff and Ben Roberts hit upon the most spectacularly novel idea: Viewers loved watching women solve crimes. The eureka moment occurred in 1974 when the great and ludicrously beautiful Angie Dickinson scored a primetime hit with "Police Woman." While I'd argue Dickinson could've burned up the Nielsen ratings via weekly readings of Russian literature shot at the Bob's Big Boy in Burbank, she was a must-watch sensation as a glamorously attired detective. Though the scripts were rigorously formulaic for a '70s hour-long cop show, Dickinson's showbiz rep attracted a host of top tier guest stars; "Police Woman" didn't have much of a hook, but thanks to its star, it had plenty of sizzle.

It took some prodding (ABC execs Barry Diller and Michael Eisner abhorred Spelling's pitch), but "Charlie's Angels" became the breakout hit of the 1976 season.

Charlie's Angels 3 With Diaz, Barrymore & Liu Discussed By Original Director As He Looks Back On Being "Nearly Fired"
Image
Director McG is open to returning to helm a Charlie's Angels 3, despite the cancellation of previous plans for a third film. McG expressed his affection for the original stars of his movies, particularly Drew Barrymore, who stood up for him when he almost got fired. The possibility of a new movie could bring together different generations of Angels, with the potential for both the original stars and Elizabeth Banks' team to collaborate.

Director McG has admitted he’s open to returning to helm a possible Charlie’s Angels 3, nineteen years after plans for both a third and fourth film were cancelled. Based on the 1970s television series of the same name, 2000’s Charlie’s Angels and its 2003 sequel Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle starred Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu as the titular trio of women working for the Townsend Agency. Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the most prolific and highest-paid actors in the world, end even Leonardo DiCaprio's first feature films proved how talented he was at such a young age. Will Jessie James Decker go from prom queen to eliminated on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ in week 6?
Image
“Dancing with the Stars” judges may have saved country singer Jesse James Decker on “Prom Night.” No, she didn’t land in the bottom two and rely on the judges’ votes to keep her in the competition. Instead, they crowned her prom queen in the dance marathon. Her 11 bonus points for that marathon, combined with her dance scores and the votes of viewers at home, were enough to keep her out of the bottom two entirely. Will she stay out of trouble again on “Michael Buble Night“? Our users are divided.

As of this writing Decker leads our elimination predictions with 11/5 odds based on the combined forecasts of “DWTS” fans who have placed their bets here in our predictions center. She’s followed by “Jersey Shore” alum Vinny Guadagnino with 11/4 odds and then actor Trevor Donovan with 4/1 odds.

Actor Trevor Donovan was in the bottom two on “Disney+ Night” on “Dancing with the Stars,” but he survived. Might that stay of execution be short-lived, though? So far this season the bottom two has been the kiss of death, even if you’re saved by the judges the first time. And according to the combined predictions of “DWTS” fans who have placed their bets here in our predictions center, Donovan will be the next to fall victim to that curse.

See‘Dancing with the Stars’ preview: Who will excel and who will struggle during grueling 2-night event [Watch]

Donovan leads our elimination predictions with 43/20 odds of being sent home sometime during this week’s two-night event — “Most Memorable Year” on Monday night and “Prom Night” on Tuesday. That would continue an unfortunate trend. So far everyone who has survived the bottom two has been eliminated the very next week. “Real...

‘Dancing with the Stars’ poll results: Were judges right to eliminate Sam Champion, or should someone else have been out?
Image
Poor Sam Champion couldn’t catch a break on “Dancing with the Stars.” For two weeks in a row the ABC meteorologist got some of the show’s toughest dance styles. For two weeks in a row he was in the bottom two when judges’ scores were combined with viewer votes. And on “Disney+ Night” he was finally eliminated from the competition. Was that the right result? We asked fans. Scroll down for the complete poll results.

SEEHere’s the lineup for the 2-night ‘Dancing with the Stars’ Stories Week, which includes a double elimination (sort of)

On “Bond Night” Champion had to dance the notoriously difficult samba, but when he landed in the bottom two with actress Cheryl Ladd the judges voted unanimously to save him. No such luck on “Disney+ Night.” He performed a paso doble, ended up with the lowest scores, and landed in the bottom two with actor Trevor Donovan,...

‘Dancing with the Stars’: Vinny Guadagnino opened up about anxiety before performing the show’s hardest dance
Image
“I’ve had the lowest scores twice now. Definitely disappointed. I keep trying to tell myself that I’m learning. It’s my first time doing this, but this sucks,” admitted Luca Guadagnino on “Dancing with the Stars” during his clip package on “Disney+ Night.” He opened up about his struggles to pro partner Koko Iwasaki, which go beyond just where he stands on the leaderboard.

“The show is exposing some anxiety that I have,” Guadagnino explained. “I grew up with anxiety, and it manifests itself in different places. I don’t get stage fright in any other aspect of my life. It’s the stage mixed with dancing. Bring them together and it’s causing the challenge.” Iwasaki was surprised that someone as outgoing as he is would struggle with these feelings,...

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Dancing With the Stars Season 31 Episode 4.] Dancing With the Stars got meta in Episode 4. This week’s theme was celebrating all things Disney+, prompting each pair of dancers to perform a number in tribute to a movie or show currently available to stream on the platform. Basically, it was a two-hour, high-energy ad for the Disney+ catalogue. Last week saw the elimination of Charlie’s Angels legend Cheryl Ladd and her partner, Louis van Amstel. Atop the Season 31 Bond Night leader board once again was Charli D’Amelio and Mark Ballas, Wayne Brady and Witney Carson, and Gabby Windey and Val Chmerkovskiy, each with 33/40. And while Cheryl and Louis weren’t in last place last week, it wasn’t enough to keep them safe. With all of the themed costumes, DWTS‘s Disney+ night felt like the ...

‘Dancing with the Stars’ elimination predictions: Will Vinny Guadagnino outlast Sam Champion in week 4?

Meteorologist Sam Champion landed in the bottom two on “Bond Night” on “Dancing with the Stars,” but he was saved by the judges in a unanimous decision. However, the way this season has been going, that’s bad news for him going into “Disney+ Night” tonight. Already Teresa Giudice and Cheryl Ladd have been saved from the bottom two just to be eliminated the very next week. Can Champion avoid the same fate?

‘Dancing with the Stars’ video slugfest: Breaking down ‘Bond Night’ and whose dances we’re scared for on ‘Disney+ Night’ [Watch]
Image
Sadly, I wasn’t surprised by the elimination of actress Cheryl Ladd on “Bond Night” on “Dancing with the Stars,” and neither were Gold Derby contributors Jeffrey Kare and Cordell Martin when we convened for our video slugfest to discuss that episode and preview what’s to come. She’d landed in the bottom two the previous week and was only barely saved by the judges. But she didn’t have the worst performance according to the scores. So there’s one celebrity we think might overstay their welcome and a few whose dances we’re especially worried about for the upcoming “Disney+ Night.” Watch our slugfest above.

“I’m not surprised with the bottom two,” says Martin about Ladd and meteorologist Sam Champion, who were the celebs on the chopping block after judges’ scores and viewer votes were combined. Kare wasn’t surprised either; he observes that when you...

‘Dancing with the Stars’ poll results: Vinny Guadagnino should’ve gone home on ‘Bond Night’ instead of Cheryl Ladd
Image
“Dancing with the Stars” ended “Bond Night” with a choice between two celebrities. The judges had to decide whether actress Cheryl Ladd or meteorologist Sam Champion would be saved from the bottom two and which would be eliminated. But according to the “DWTS” fans we polled this week, neither of those celebs should have been on the chopping block. Scroll down for our complete poll results.

Ladd first landed in the bottom two on “Elvis Night,” but the judges narrowly voted to save her, eliminating “Real Housewives” star Teresa Giudice instead. This time Ladd wasn’t so lucky. On “Bond Night” she danced a rumba that got praise from the judges with Derek Hough calling it her best dance and Bruno Tonioli telling her she got her sparkle back. Unfortunately, her total score of 24 out of 40 was still only good enough for 13th place out of the 14 remaining contestants on the judges’ leaderboard.

Why Cheryl Burke wasn’t a ‘nervous, sweaty wreck’ facing elimination on ‘Dancing with the Stars’
Image
Sam Champion and Cheryl Burke were saved from elimination on “Dancing with the Stars” on Monday, but the pro would’ve been all right if the judges had voted the other way.

“With this season in particular, there’s peace along with the whole elimination process,” Burke told Us Weekly. “Like, normally I’m a nervous, sweaty wreck, but with Sam, if I’m looking at the actual ability of all the celebrities? We are very blessed to still be in this competition, to be quite honest, and Sam knows that.”

The pair landed in the bottom two for the first time this season after earning a 25 for their samba on Bond Night. The judges unanimously voted to save them, sending Cheryl Ladd and Louis van Amstel, who were in the bottom two for the second straight week, out the door. With Ladd’s exit, Champion, 61, is now the oldest contestant remaining in the competition.

‘DWTS’: Cheryl Ladd & Louis van Amstel Open Up About Their Emotional Elimination
Carrie Ann Inaba
Judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman, Derek Hough, and Bruno Tonioli served as the villains on “James Bond Night” on Dancing With the Stars as far as Cheryl Ladd and Louis van Amstel – and millions of Charlie’s Angels fans – are concerned. For the second week in a row, the Ladd and van Amstel found themselves in the bottom two in the dance competition reality series. The good news is that the judges unanimously voted to save a Cheryl…but the bad news for #TeamAngel is that they saved Cheryl Burke and her celebrity partner, ABC weatherman Sam Champion. TV Insider chatted with Ladd and van Amstel about their DWTS journey and also with a few pro dancers about the couple’s exit. This week, Ladd and van Amstel scored three points higher with their rumba set to Bond theme “Diamonds Are Forever” from the 1971 film of the same name compared...

Dancing With the Stars has been killing it with theme nights in its move to Disney+.

The hit reality series went with memorable songs from the James Bond film franchise Monday night.

To the surprise of everyone, there was no "Skyfall," which was strange because that song was everywhere.

Joseph Baena was still without Daniella Karagach, who tested positive for Covid-19 last week.

Alexis Warr returned to help him through an Argentine tango that served as another strong performance.

But, who got on the wrong side of judges and viewers on Bond Night?

Charli D'Amelio and Mark Ballas - 33 out of 40 - Safe

The pair danced to Billie Eilish's "No Time to Die," and it was another showstopper for these two.

They're truly on the upper end of the competitors this season and have the potential to steamroll the entire competition.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Dancing With the Stars Season 31 Episode 3.] Dancing With the Stars, shaken, not stirred. Following last week’s “Elvis Night” tiebreaker that saw Teresa Giudice sent home, James Bond night kicked off Monday, October 3, on Disney+. The amateurs and pros took on some of the Oscar-winning 007 musical themes for a night of debonair dancing — most of them rumbas. Daniella Karagach was still out following her positive Covid test last week. Joseph Baena is still dancing with troupe member Alexis Warr, but the unexpected change impressively didn’t inhibit the dance novice’s performance last week or this week. Karagach’s husband, Pasha Pashkov, was eliminated last week with Giudice in favor of Charlie’s Angels star Cheryl Ladd and partner Louis van Amstel. The professionals kicked things off with a sexy group number to “Live and Let Die.” Beginning the night with the first competitive dance was Charli D’Amelio and Mark Ballas...

‘Dancing With The Stars’ Week 3: A “Legend” Goes Home After James Bond Night
Image
Conrad Green, it’s so good to have you back as executive producer on Dancing with the Stars! First we get Derek Hough running around like a spy and rappelling down to the ballroom before Peta Murgatroyd helped to kick off a fiery opening number to “Live and Let Die.” Just like old times when DWTS was in its glory years on ABC.

Let’s get on with Bond night, James Bond night on Disney+.

Cheryl Ladd and Louis Van Amstel. The veteran actress thought she was a goner last week, but Goodman — bless his heart — saved her for another day. So she dug up an old photo of her and Sean Connery for inspiration so she can be “the Bond girl I never got to be” while performing a rumba. Elegant! “That was your best dance,” said judge Hough, who was particularly impressed with the graceful way she held her arms.

Selma Blair’s Blindfolded Rumba Steams Up ‘Dancing With the Stars’ Week 3 as Spoiler Is Sent Home
Image
There was a three-way tie at the top of the leaderboard on week three of “Dancing With the Stars” between Charli D’Amelio, Wayne Brady, and Gabby Windey as the stars danced to James Bond movie theme songs for Bond Night.

(Spoiler alert! This article reveals the results from Monday’s episode of “Dancing With the Stars” on Disney+.)

While Vinny Guadagnino earned the lowest scores of the evening, he was saved by the audience vote, who loved his spirited, if not technically perfect, rumba to “Thunderball.” Cohost Alfonso Ribiero gave Vinny to respond to Len Goodman’s “blocky” critique by doing his own review as the Brit: “It was rubbish, but he knocked my socks off,” said a game Vinny in his best British accent.

Former “Charlie’s Angels” star Cheryl Ladd and her partner Louis van Amstel have been eliminated from the competition, with all four judges opting to save Sam Champion & Cheryl Burke.

‘Dancing with the Stars’ Bond Night recap: Were the rumba-tastic tributes to 007 shaken or stirring? [Updating Live Blog]
Image
For the second week in a row “Dancing with the Stars” paid tribute to an icon. Last week was “Elvis Night,” and this week celebrated a fictional icon: Bond, James Bond. Scroll down for our live blog of “Dancing with the Stars” “Bond Night” where we discuss which performances were shaken and which were stirring.

In an unusual turn of events, more than half of the contestants were performing in the same dance style. Eight out of the 14 got slow and sensual rumbas: actress Selma Blair, TikTok star Charli D’Amelio, country singer Jessie James Decker, actor Daniel Durant, “Jersey Shore” alum Vinny Guadagnino, actress Cheryl Ladd, drag queen Shangela, and singer Jordin Sparks. That left six who were performing different routines. Dancing the Argentine tango were reality TV star Heidi D’Amelio and fitness model Joseph Baena. Actors Wayne Brady and Trevor Donovan performed regular tangos. Meteorologist Sam Champion got the notoriously difficult samba.

Cheryl Ladd & Louis van Amstel Talk Their Near-Miss Elimination on ‘DWTS’
Cheryl Ladd
Charles Townsend Agency detective, Kris Munroe, played by Cheryl Ladd, escaped from a few tough spots during her four seasons on the hit ’70s series Charlie’s Angels. But none of them came close to the real-life danger Ladd was in last week on Dancing With the Stars when she and pro dance partner Louis van Amstel were in the bottom two and looking at being sent home. Judges Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli sided against Ladd and van Amstel. It appeared as if the show was going to say “Goodbye, Angel.” However, judges Carrie Ann Inaba and Len Goodman (whose vote carries more weight) opted to keep Ladd in the competition. On Monday, October 3, she and van Amstel are set to compete again on the dance floor in a James Bond-themed dance. TV Insider chatted with the underdogs about their off-screen friendship, their game plan to make a comeback, and...

‘Dancing with the Stars’ elimination predictions: Will Cheryl Ladd’s Mirror Ball hopes live to die another day?
Image
The “Elvis Night” elimination on “Dancing with the Stars” went down to the wire with “Real Housewives” alum Teresa Giudice and actress Cheryl Ladd in the bottom two. Ladd survived (barely), but can she survive again when the remaining 14 celebs dance to music from the James Bond franchise? It’s not looking so good for her according to our odds.

Ladd gets leading odds of 3/2 of being eliminated from the competition based on the combined predictions of “DWTS” fans who have placed their bets here in our predictions center. But she came close to not being able to dance on “Bond Night” at all. In a split decision, judges Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli actually voted to save Giudice from elimination, while Carrie Ann Inaba and Len Goodman voted to save Ladd. It was a tie, but since head judge Goodman’s vote breaks ties, Ladd stayed in the competition while Giudice was ejected.

‘Dancing with the Stars’ poll results: Less than half of fans think Teresa Giudice should have been eliminated
Image
“Dancing with the Stars” ended its second week with a split decision: reality star Teresa Giudice and actress Cheryl Ladd were the bottom two after the judges’ scores and viewer votes were added together. But even though Ladd had the lower total judges’ score (and the lowest score out of all contestants), she was the one who ended up being saved. Did the judges make the right call? Scroll down for our complete poll results.

Giudice led our poll with just under half of respondents (48) saying she was rightly eliminated, which is similar to how it went down with the judges, who were split right down the middle. Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli voted for Giudice to stay, but Carrie Ann Inaba and Len Goodman voted to save Ladd. Since Goodman is the head judge, his vote breaks the tie, which meant Giudice was eliminated.

‘Dancing with the Stars” Bond Night is missing one iconic theme song
Image
“Dancing with the Stars” will get shaken, not stirred, when it celebrates Bond Night on Monday’s episode.

To mark the 60th anniversary of the release of the first James Bond film, “Dr. No,” the top 14 will perform to Bond theme songs on Week 3. But you won’t hear one notable tune: Adele‘s “Skyfall” from the 2012 film of the same name and the first Bond theme to win the Best Original Song Oscar. The subsequent two Oscar-winning themes, Sam Smith‘s “Writing on the Wall” from 2015’s “Spectre” and Billie Eilish‘s title track to last year’s “No Time to Die,” will be represented on the show.

And with the moody nature of most of the tracks, you will not be shocked to learn that there will be lots of rumbas — eight of them, to be exact. Definitely a missed opportunity not to make it 007.

For the second week in a row,...
