"Is Brad here? I just really need to see him." Vertical has revealed the official trailer for an indie film titled Griffin in Summer, a coming-of-age comedy about a precocious 14-year-old boy. It reminds me of Wes Anderson's classic Rushmore but with a whole different awakening. Set for release starting later this month. Newcomer Everett Blunck stars as Griffin – the most ambitious playwright of his generation. He's also fourteen years old. When his mom, played by Melanie Lynskey, hires a handsome 25-year-old handyman, Griffin's life and his new play take an inspired turn. The cast includes Owen Teague, Kathryn Newton, and Abby Ryder Fortson. Early reviews state: "A showcase for (Colia's) stellar casting abilities and knack for heartwarming storytelling, Griffin in Summer is a very fine feature directorial debut." The kid in this, Everett Blunck, is also the same kid that stars in The Plague, one of the big...

Another cult classic is getting the sequel treatment, twenty-five years after debuting. Coyote Ugly, directed by David McNally and released on August 4, 2000, is reportedly in talks for a follow-up production, as revealed by one of its original stars. The film was not much of a critical success but went on to smash the box office, grossing over $113 million worldwide, and has since developed a loving fan base. It stars Piper Perabo in her breakthrough role, along with Adam Garcia, Melanie Lynskey, John Goodman, Tyra Banks, Maria Bello, Izabella Miko, and Bridget Moynahan.
During a recent visit to The Hollywood Reporter’s suite at San Diego Comic-Con to promote her upcoming spy-thriller series Butterfly, Perabo revealed that there has been “some discussion” about a Coyote Ugly sequel. This comes five years after Banks claimed that she had been lobbying the original production team for a sequel for years. Not to mention,...

Piper Perabo says there has been “some discussion” about a sequel to Coyote Ugly.
The actress visited The Hollywood Reporter‘s suite at San Diego Comic-Con to promote her upcoming spy-thriller series Butterfly, alongside castmembers including Daniel Dae Kim, who stars in and executive produces the Prime Video series.
The film, which was released 25 years ago next month, stars Perabo as an aspiring songwriter who moves to New York to pursue her dreams and winds up taking a job at a trendy bar, Coyote Ugly. The cast also includes Adam Garcia, John Goodman, Maria Bello, Izabella Miko, Tyra Banks, Bridget Moynahan and Melanie Lynskey.
THR‘s Tiffany Taylor interviewed Perabo at Comic-Con, noting that there has been talk of a sequel over the years and asked what the status is.
Kim interjected, jokingly, with a suggestion for a title: “Coyote Uglier?” Quipped Perabo: “Coyote-er Ugly?”

Yellowjackets' Sophie Nélisse knows that her character, Shauna Shipman, may not be every viewer's favorite after the events of season 3, but the star does not seem too phased by the hate. Given that the story centers on teenage girls stranded in the wilderness, some level of animosity is bound to build up between Yellowjackets' characters.
This is exactly what has happened throughout the series so far, but by the end of Yellowjackets season 3, the group is more divided than ever, withShauna taking on the role of antler queen. Unsurprisingly, this position and her part in ensuring that Mari (Alexa Barajas) became the pit girl have set Shauna up as Yellowjackets season 4's villain.
In an interview with ScreenRant's Ash Crossan at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, Sophie Nélisse herself offered insight into what it feels like to play such a controversial character. What's more, the star hinted at what is to...

2025 may be nearly half way through, but in the world of TV the year is still young. As such, even though you may feel like the best TV you'll see this year is already behind us as we've headed down to the severed floor for Severance Season 2, stared at our reflection once again in Charlie Brooker's Netflix series Black Mirror, brought out the billy clubs for Disney+ must-see show Daredevil: Born Again, and had our collective socks knocked off by Philip Barantini's Adolescence, we assure you a veritable streaming smorgasbord still lies ahead of us in the coming months.
Yes, we may have just finished collecting our jaw from the flaw after that Andor Season 2 finale, and yes, the second seasons of both The Last Of Us and Doctor Who may have left our heads spinning, but there's still no shortage of returning favourites, fresh franchise offerings, original programming,...

Both The Institute and Castle Rock are adapted from Stephen King’s work, but the response to each has been very different. That’s right, The Institute kicked off with a decent 78% critics’ review on Rotten Tomatoes but hasn’t connected that well with audiences. On IMDb as well, it currently sits at 6.9/10.
Meanwhile, Hulu’s Castle Rock, on the other hand, has held stronger ground. Both of its seasons are rated between 87 and 89% on Rotten Tomatoes, and it also has a solid 7.5/10 on IMDb. So, what could be the reason for this gap? Let’s dive deeper to know what Castle Rock did that clicked more with fans and critics.

In the early '90s, "The Lord of the Rings" was just that weird cartoon from Ralph Bakshi, the most famous Kate was "heroin chic" supermodel Kate Moss, and Kiwi director Peter Jackson was only really on the radar of gorehounds thanks to his splattery, low-budget horror comedies like "Bad Taste" and "Braindead." That all began to change with the arrival of "Heavenly Creatures" in 1994, a fantastical period drama about a sensational but mostly forgotten true-life crime.
Distributed internationally under the Miramax banner (with "In a World" voiceover master Don Lafontaine doing his thing on the trailer), "Heavenly Creatures" was the first Jackson film you might actually take your mum to watch at the cinema. It also introduced the world to two young unknown actresses, Kate Winslet and Melanie Lynskey, playing a pair of schoolgirls whose retreat into an imaginary world leads to obsession, insanity, and murder.

Who’s keeping us on the edge of our seats again? None other than Rian Johnson, director of Brick, Knives Out, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi. He brought his twist-loving mind to Poker Face, Peacock’s retro-style murder mystery series starring Natasha Lyonne as the lie-detecting drifter, Charlie Cale.
Since its 2023 premiere, the show’s witty blend of crime, comedy, and Lyonne’s eccentric charisma has made it a fan favorite. But what happens now? After season 2’s wild finale cliffhanger, in which Charlie and the assassin Iguana plunge off a gorge, when we’ll see season 3 remains a mystery for now.
Where’s the renewal? Not here yet. And why not? That’s the kicker. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Johnson admitted,
We haven’t really started the conversations. If it all makes sense and all comes together, I do love doing the show… but there...

Yellowjackets, thankfully, has been renewed for Season 4, assuring that the show’s biggest cliffhanger (literally) won’t go unaddressed. As always with this supernatural (or is it?) tale of survival told in two timelines, the Yellowjackets Season 3 finale left fans with more questions than answers. TV Insider had Liv Hewson (teen Van) react to Yellowjackets fan theories while the fans wait for the next part of the story to unfold. Yellowjackets follows a girls’ high school soccer team from New Jersey who are stranded for 18 months in the Canadian wilderness after their plane crashes on their way to nationals. The girls, and their assistant coach, struggle to survive physically and mentally, but a cannibalistic hunting ritual slowly becomes their twisted means of survival as more time passes and rescue looks less and less likely. In the present-day timeline, adult survivors of the wilderness continue trying to cope with the trauma...

This article contains spoilers for "Poker Face" season 2.
The season 2 finale of "Poker Face" is titled "The End of the Road," but one can only hope that this won't be our last ride with spunky lie detector detective Charlie Cale (Natasha Lyonne). As of this writing, "Poker Face" hasn't been renewed yet for a third season. We're crossing our fingers here at /Film, though, because "Poker Face" season 2 was just as delightful a ride as season 1.
"Poker Face" streams on Peacock, but it's purposefully made like classical, pre-streaming TV. Charlie is the only constant character as the series follows her solving a different murder each week in a new location. Like in "Columbo," the first act of each episode shows the killing play out in detail, and in the remaining acts, Charlie comes in and solves it.
Part of the show's hook is its guest stars, and part of it...

Looks like Dance Mom will boogie all the way to the Emmy podium.
Julianne Nicholson, who played the joyous (and drug-addicted) character on Hacks Season 4, now leads the Best Comedy Guest Actress race, taking down longtime frontrunner Jamie Lee Curtis for The Bear, who won last year. Nicholson's Dance Mom, aka Mary Alice, was recruited by Paul W. Downs' Jimmy and Megan Stalter's Kayla to appear on Late Night With Deborah Vance as a way for the talk show-within-a-show to gain a younger audience. At first, Jean Smart's Deborah was hesitant to let the untested woman take the stage, until she realized it would annoy Hannah Einbinder's Ava, and then all bets were off.
There's a new Hacks tonight, but I have not yet recovered from Julianne Nicholson dancing to Katy Perry's "Lifetimes" as Dance Mom in last week's episode. pic.twitter.com/SH3OPittFI

Fans usually watch shows based on how good they are, obviously, but when creators make special announcements, it makes them love it even more. From guest appearances to a twist in its plot, maintaining an audience is vital and not easy. Yellowjackets co-creator Ashley Lyle has done an amazing job sharing updates and fun behind-the-scenes news about the series that premiered on Showtime in 2021. In 2023, Lyle revealed that there was a special bonus episode of Yellowjackets, but a year later, she told fans that they'd have to "wait a bit longer" for the treat. They aren't the only ones eager to see the special episode — the show's star, Melanie Lynskey, is too.
Lynskey plays the adult Shauna Sadecki (Sophie Nélisse is the teenage version of the character), and during an interview with EW's The Awardist Podcast, revealed that her husband, Jason Ritter, filmed an episode of the series that hasn't aired.

The key races for the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards couldn’t be more different.
The comedy categories appear to be heading for another showdown between The Bear — once again prompting an obligatory “Is it a drama or a comedy?” debate — and Hacks, with several returning shows still in the mix while the drama fields, which Shōgun dominated last year, are wide open.
While voters can, and in many cases should, absolutely go back to prior favorites like The White Lotus, Severance and The Last of Us, the THR television critics have recommendations on some familiar and some quirky and offbeat ways to fill out ballots.
Voting for the nomination round closes on Monday, June 23, with nominations announced on Tuesday, July 15. The 2025 Emmys will air on CBS and Paramount+ on Sept. 14, with Nate Bargatze serving as host.

Yellowjackets star Melanie Lynskey has shared a disappointing update on her husband's missing bonus episode, which was originally filmed during season 2. During production on season 2 of the thriller series, a standalone episode starring Jason Ritter was filmed. While it's unclear who he was playing on the cast of Yellowjackets, the episode was originally meant to air prior to the start of season 3. However, as of writing, the episode has yet to be released, and there is no concrete information as to when it might come out.
Speaking with The Awardistpodcast (via Entertainment Weekly), Lynskey, who plays adult Shauna, brought up Ritter's viral TikTok video "the arugula's gone bad," leading to a conversation about his lost Yellowjackets episode. He'd filmed the video in Vancouver while there for the episode, which she referred to as "lost to time," implying its fate remains up in the air. Although she didn't concretely say...

Melanie Lynskey is revealing the Yellowjackets moment that had her fearing for her life during filming!

During a season 3 episode of the show, Melanie‘s character, Shauna, loses control of her van as the breaks go out. Coyote Ugly took a beating from critics when it first hit theaters in the summer of 2000, but over time, the comedy-drama found new life as a cult favorite, thanks to the fans who embraced its feel-good charm and iconic soundtrack. In a time when revivals and sequels to beloved classics are all the rage, it’s somewhat surprising that Coyote Ugly hasn’t yet gotten the same treatment, especially withTyra Banks, one of its stars, championing the idea for years. That, however, might soon change as a recent update from producer Jerry Bruckheimer teases that we might be headed for another wild night at the legendary bar.
Bruckheimer has lately been out and about promoting his recent production effort with Warner Bros. — F1, a high-octane racing film starring Brad Pitt. One of those promotion rounds saw him catch up with ScreenRant for a brief chat, where the outlet stole the...

That’s how Lynskey summed up one of the most memorable scenes from Season 3 of Yellowjackets at a recent panel at the Newport Beach TV Festival, where the cast received the award for Outstanding Drama Ensemble. Lynskey, who plays adult Shauna on the Showtime drama, was joined by Christina Ricci (adult Misty) and Samantha Hanratty (teen Misty) for a Q&a moderated by Gold Derby’s editor-in-chief.

For playing a detective tasked with solving a White House murder and a housewife burdened with a past of dark secrets, Uzo Aduba and Melanie Lynskey leaned into comedic moments in their drama series, “The Residence” and “Yellowjackets,” more than one might imagine.
“It’s just honesty … I do like being able to find moments of levity in dramatic situations or something that feels real that can also be funny,” Lynskey told Aduba during a new installment of TheWrap’s long-form video series Visionaries, noting that “Yellowjackets” finds a welcome blend of drama and comedy.
For Aduba, who notably won an Emmy in both the comedy and drama categories for playing Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren in “Orange Is the New Black,” finding the comedic beats in “The Residence” wasn’t tricky, and she relished the show’s fast pace.

Twenty-five years after its release, But I’m a Cheerleader still raises spirits for fans of the cult queer comedy. Jamie Babbit marked her feature directorial debut with the project that stars Natasha Lyonne as Megan, a high school cheerleader sent to conversion-therapy camp when her loved ones suspect that she’s a lesbian.
The filmmaker hatched the idea after reading an article about gay rehabilitation centers and recruited Brian Wayne Peterson to write the script. Babbit cast Clea Duvall (who starred in her short film Sleeping Beauties) as Megan’s love interest. Rosario Dawson was among those considered for the lead, but the part went to Lyonne, who led 1998’s Slums of Beverly Hills and asked about Cheerleader after seeing the script in friend Duvall’s car. Rounding out the cast were Bud Cort, Melanie Lynskey and Michelle Williams.

Talk about a fashion emergency.
It’s not easy dressing teenage girls under the best of circumstances — add in a plane crash in the wilderness, brutal winters, a devastating fire, and some mild cannibalism, and you’ve got to do some pretty creative costume work.
Such is the challenge faced by Yellowjackets costume designer Marie Schley, an Emmy winner for her work on Transparent. Even in its third season, Schley says her job has actually gotten easier, as she’s able to collaborate with the actors who’ve come to fully embody their characters — that is, the ones who’ve survived.
Here, she talks with Liv Hewson, who plays teen Van (and who uses they/them pronouns), about their favorite costumes, the one look that defined their character, and what they took from the set.

Speaking with IndieWire amid a heated Emmys race, Krueger reflected on his bizarre experience making the show — a brain-twisting challenge he still considers a personal best.
“Everybody asks me all the time, ‘Did you get to keep your head?’ That really is the universal first thing that everybody wants to know,” said Krueger. “The answer, of course, is no, I did not — nor would I want to.”

One of the reasons why “Matlock” star Kathy Bates seems to be in such a good position to win the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, besides having been recognized for her performance at several of the winter awards shows, with wins at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards, is that her show is only in its first season.

Fox crime drama series "The Cleaning Lady" aired its season 4 finale on June 3, 2025. The series' fans didn't have long to savor the episode or guess what would come next, because mere days later, on June 6, Fox canceled the series, citing low ratings.
In fact, ratings for "The Cleaning Lady" had been declining consistently. The first season generally enjoyed around three million viewers (give or take) per episode back in 2022, while by the fourth season, it was down to one million. It's possible that the decline just has to do with fewer people watching all network TV, but the end result is the same.
Created by Miranda Kwok, "The Cleaning Lady" is a remake of an Argentine TV series, "La Chica que Limpia" (Spanish for "The Cleaning Lady"). The series starred Elodie Yung as Thony De La Rosa, a Cambodian-Filipino surgeon living in Las Vegas. On an expired visa and with an ill young son,...

Coming off their acclaimed turn as Ellie in the second season of HBO's The Last of Us, Bella Ramsey is reportedly being eyed for a Marvel Studios role.
Though this should only be viewed as a rumor for the time being, scooper Mttsh is claiming that Marvel is interested in signing Ramsey for a "big role" in an upcoming project. This obviously covers a lot of ground and even more potential characters, and it's entirely possible that Kevin Feige and co. simply have the highly in-demand actor on their radar.
Ramsey might well have taken a meeting (or two), but Marvel meets with a lot of talent, often without any specific role in mind.
That said, there are some major MCU movies on the horizon, and - assuming this is accurate - we can't help but wonder if Ramsey might be in line for a role in the upcoming X-Men reboot.

In Season 3 of “Yellowjackets,” Shauna (played as an adult by Melanie Lynskey) went completely off the rails. Fans were fine with a show about cannibalism but not with a main character who was paranoid, violent and out of control. The ferocity of their feedback surprised cast and crew.
During a new installment of How She Did It, presented by Paramount+, Lynskey and Ashley Lyle, the Emmy-nominated drama’s co-creator and co-showrunner, broke down the shockingly brutal fight in Episode 8 between Lynskey and guest star Hilary Swank.
The Paramount+ with Showtime series, which was recently renewed for Season 4, is about a high school girls’ soccer team that crashes in the Canadian wilderness and turn feral as they struggle to survive. An older cast plays the troubled survivors as adults, for whom the past is never really past.

Before the series ended, he told a fellow agent, Nina Chase (Shantel VanSanten), that he and his wife were expecting a baby together. In response to a question from TVLine, showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman discussed wanting to cast two guest stars who are familiar to two of the stars of the series, Jason Ritter and Skye P. Marshall.
