This post contains spoilers for "Wednesday" and "Addams Family Values."
It's a new school year rife with woe, as "Wednesday" season 2 promises even more scares and mysteries for its titular protagonist. By the time the season picks up, Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) has undergone quite the transformation since she first arrived at Nevermore Academy. Indeed, she's far more receptive now to having friends and has (unwittingly) even gained some social footing after defeating season 1's big bad, Tyler (Hunter Doohan).
But normalcy is a foreign concept for an Addams, which is why Wednesday has to contend with fresh horrors in season 2, part 1, which includes hunting down a persistent stalker who has been tailing her since the season 1 finale. Juggling this issue with the sudden presence of her family on campus, Wednesday is forced to navigate some complicated emotions as she finds herself having to decide between sticking to her isolationist...

An animated sci-fi movie with an 86% Rotten Tomatoes score becomes an instant streaming hit in America three months after its $15 million box office. After Inside Out 2, Moana 2, Despicable Me 4, Mufasa: The Lion King, and Kung Fu Panda 4 all ranked within the top 10 highest-grossing movies of 2024, 2025 has been a rough year so farfor animated films at the box office.
However, Dreamworks' Dog Man, released this past January, was a modest success that earned an 80% Rotten Tomatoes score and made over $145 million at the box office. Elio had hopes of turning the year around for animated film, but despite its 83% Rotten Tomatoes score, it debuted to $20 million, the lowest opening weekend ever for a Pixar movie.
There have also been several animated films that flew under that radar at the box office in 2025, earning critical praise but failing to attract large audiences in theaters.

Lynne Meadow will step aside after a 53-year run as artistic director of the highly influential Manhattan Theatre Club that included guiding shows by such playwrights as Christopher Durang, John Guare, Beth Henley, Terrence McNally, Eureka Day‘s Jonathan Spector and many others.
Meadow will continue her longtime association with Mtc, which stages both Broadway and Off Broadway productions, by serving in a new role of Artistic Advisor. Mtc’s Board of Directors will work with an external search firm to identify a new artistic director. A projected timeline was not disclosed.
“I have loved and cherished creating my theatre,” said Meadow in a statement, “and I have dedicated myself, for over 50 years, to welcoming and working with the greatest talent in every aspect of our institution. It's an honor to be nominated... until you're disqualified.
There are a lot of rules when it comes to the Emmys. Some are pretty standard and easy to remember — the annual eligibility period is June 1-May 31 — and others, well, you gotta read the fine print in the rulebook, even the TV Academy itself. Sometimes things fall through the cracks, but they're usually rectified before nominations are announced (see: Alexis Bledel being ineligible in guest for The Handmaid's Tale this year). When they're not, though, that leads to the unfortunate situation of the TV Academy revoking nominations.
Here are six times the Emmys rescinded nominations, including one instance more than a quarter century later.
Dennis Miller, Dennis Miller Live
In 1995, Miller's HBO talk show, Dennis Miller Live, received three nominations, including for Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program. However, the TV Academy soon rescinded the nomination after it...

The new Emmy rule for guest eligibility has claimed its first victim.
Alexis Bledel, who returned to The Handmaid's Tale for last week's series finale, only had a few minutes of screen time, so she understandably submitted in the Best Drama Guest Actress category for the upcoming Emmys. However, a 2025 addendum to the Emmys rulebook stipulates that if a performer was previously nominated in supporting or lead, they cannot switch to guest for that same show at any future date, regardless of how much screen time they have — or, in Bledel's case, don't have.
As originally reported by Variety and confirmed by Gold Derby, the Television Academy notified Bledel that she would be moved from Best Drama Guest Actress to Best Drama Supporting Actress, the same category where she was nominated in 2018 (losing to Thandiwe Newton for Westworld). As a result, Bledel opted to withdraw her name from consideration completely,...

Pedro Pascal is strategically pursuing another Emmy, but his limited screen time undoubtedly presents a challenge.
Despite appearing in five of the seven episodes in the second season of HBO Max’s dystopian drama “The Last of Us,” Pascal has boldly decided to submit himself for consideration in the lead drama actor category at the Primetime Emmy Awards. The choice has raised crucial questions about fairness, category integrity and the responsibility of the Television Academy’s acting peer group to intervene if nominations seem misaligned with the performances presented.
In Season 2, Pascal’s character, Joel, meets an early demise consistent with his tragic fate in the original video game. While his presence continues to resonate throughout the rest of the narrative, his actual screen time effectively turns him into an extended cameo, or in better words, a beefy supporting role. Yet, he is competing for recognition alongside actors who have...

The first fully animated Looney Tunes movie hits Max on Friday, June 27.
Daffy Duck and Porky Pig are blasting off from the big screen to streaming with “The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie.” After picking up solid reviews (and a decent box office run), this sci-fi comedy is heading to HBO Max, bringing Looney Tunes chaos to a full-length alien invasion story. The setup? Daffy and Porky accidentally uncover a mind control plot at a bubble gum factory — because of course, they do — and end up as Earth’s last hope. It’s fast, funny, and totally unhinged in the best way. Here’s everything you need to know before it lands on streaming on Friday, June 27 on HBO Max.

Update March 17, 2025: Paramount's Novocaine topped the box office in its first weekend of release, earning $8.7 million from March 14 to March 16. The action-packed comedy starring Jack Quaid came in slightly under its $10 million forecast to lead a numb weekend box office. Bong Joon Ho's Mickey 17 held on for second place, adding $7.5 million to the film's total domestic gross of $33 million. Rounding out the top five were Focus Features' Black Bag with $7.5 million, Disney/Marvel's Captain America: Brave New World with $5.5 million, and Ketchup Entertainment's The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, which exceeded expectations with $3.2 million.

Persistence sure does pay off. Porky Pig and Daffy Duck have been gracing screens since 1935 and 1937, respectively, but it took until now for them to star in their own full-length film, the first completely animated Looney Tunes feature to ever hit the big screen (how is that possible?). The results were worth the wait: The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie is a consistent pleasure that should delight youngsters as well as nostalgic adults. It’s a shame that the folks at Warner Bros. didn’t honor their past but instead declined to release the film. Fortunately, indie distributor Ketchup Entertainment has come to the rescue. That studio has a more fun name anyway.

I don’t know what’s crazier: The fact that “The Day the Earth Blew Up” is the first fully-animated “Looney Tunes” feature ever released in theaters, or that Warner Bros. — who first commissioned the project for HBO Max (Rip) before shopping it around to other buyers — was so determined to prevent the film from achieving its destiny.
Can a fun, slap-happy, and beautifully animated buddy comedy fronted by some of the most famous cartoon characters of all time and budgeted at 8.57% the cost of “Inside Out 2” really be that big of a risk? New distributor Ketchup Entertainment is certainly hoping to prove otherwise, and they’re doing so with the benefit of a movie that’s very much about the joy and importance of preserving the classics long after they’ve gone out of fashion.

The critics almost couldn't be more impressed with the new animated film The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie. With its early reviews ahead of its wide release in theaters on March 14, the movie has garnered a Rotten Tomatoes score that's nearly perfect.
On Rotten Tomatoes, as of this writing, The Day the Earth Blew Up currently has an approval rating of 97%. The score will likely fluctuate as more are added, but currently, nearly every review submitted by approved critics is very complimentary of the film, described as a satisfactory watch for both longtime Looney Tunes fans and newcomers to the franchise. While the characters are very familiar and the traditional 2D animation style isn't groundbreaking, the movie is getting praise for proving just how much characters like Porky Pig and Daffy Duck still resonate with viewers of all ages today.

Daffy Duck and Porky Pig attempt to thwart an insidious alien invader in a funny but exceedingly wacky original theatrical adventure. The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Moviegives the beloved childhood icons a 2D, hand-drawn cinematic canvas for total chaos and buffoonery. The screwball plot mostly delights as zany twists run amok until a wild ending that honestly overreaches. The bag of nuts tastes yummy until it doesn't. The filmmakers deserve a golf clap for creativity and stoking fandom's nostalgia, but should have reigned in the hijinks for the bonkers finale.
The Day the Earth Blew Up opens with Daffy Duck and Porky Pig, both voiced by the Emmy-winning and supremely talented Eric Bauza, as youngsters in a precarious predicament. Farmer Jim (Fred Tatasciore) saves the troublesome tykes and becomes an adopted father trying to corral their ridiculous shenanigans. Daffy grows to be intense and uncontrollable while...

We’ve had Looney Tunes for nearly a century. Leon Schlesinger produced their first short Sinkin’ in the Bathtub alongside animators Hugh Harman and Rudolf Ising in 1930. Almost 100 years later, the only Looney Tunes feature films (outside of theatrically released compilations) have been two Space Jams, 2003’s Looney Tunes: Back in Action, the tragically unreleased Coyote vs. Acme, and now the latest offering: The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie.
Directed by Peter Browngardt, this is a charming affair. Modeled after sci-fi B-movies of the 1950s and starring Looney Tunes legends Porky Pig and Daffy Duck (both voiced by Eric Bauza), The Day the Earth Blew Up starts with a UFO landing. The spacecraft takes off on the roof of Porky and Daffy’s broken-down house (bequeathed to them by surrogate father Farmer Jim) just before crashing. It goes on to infect a local scientist (Fred Tatasciore...

Pete Browngardt’s delightful The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, a love letter to Warner Bros.’s iconic Looney Tunes franchise, knows the history of its source of inspiration so well that it has the confidence to work without the safety net of Bugs Bunny. Here we get a rare modern-day spotlight for Porky Pig and Daffy Duck (both voiced by Eric Bauza) that leans into their earliest character traits: Porky as the hapless but fundamentally decent, even good-natured, average joe, and Daffy as an uncontrollable chaos god no longer bound by fate to be humiliated by his nemesis. This Daffy can do bad all by himself.
As far back as 1943’s “Porky’s Pig Feat,” Porky and Daffy have shared a chemistry premised on the tension between the former’s dignity and the latter’s penchant for anarchy. That dynamic is brought to bear here...

A guest spot on a television sitcom, especially one as insanely popular as "The Big Bang Theory," is basically television law. There's no legally binding mandate, per se, but it would get pretty monotonous if every week followed our series leads with absolutely no one else showing up for a laugh or surprise jolt from the live studio audience. Given the show's primary focus on "geek culture," or rather a heavily commercialized version of such, it makes sense that nerdom heavy hitters like James Earl Jones, Mark Hamill, and Adam West would make an appearance throughout its 12-season run. But then you can't sustain a roster of guest spots without expanding your star power horizons.
The series' 11th and penultimate season saw folks like Kathy Bates, Peter MacNicol, and Jerry O'Connell pop in for a quick hello, but you may be surprised to learn that "Fallout" star Walton Goggins and his beautiful scruff did too.

Ketchup Entertainment dropped the trailer for “The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie” on February 28 ahead of its March 14 theatrical release. The indie picked up the Daffy Duck and Porky Pig sci-fi origin story last year after Warner Bros. Discovery killed it for tax purposes (like the live-action/animated Looney Tunes hybrid “Coyote vs. Acme”).
The franchise’s first fully 2D-animated theatrical feature finds Daffy and Porky (both voiced by Eric Bauza) stumbling onto a secret alien plot to take over the world via mind-control and chewing gum. But they attempt to gum up the works with their inimitable antics.
Director Peter Browngardt (“Looney Tunes Cartoons”) admirably captures the essence of the wacky odd couple with wit and warmth, channeling the outrageous look and gags of his favorite Warner Bros. director Bob Clampett. “We wanted the audience caring about these characters,” Browngardt told IndieWire, “but still also...

For the bulk of his career, Leslie Nielsen was best known for his stern, dramatic roles. His tall stature and low voice had casting directors offering him parts as commanders, leaders, and even heavies. Many might recall Nielsen's stone-faced turn in 1956's "Forbidden Planet" as the captain in "The Poseidon Adventure," or playing a cop in the 1972 cop drama "The Bold Ones: The Protectors." In 1977's "Day of the Animals" he plays a manly outdoorsman who loses his mind and, quite darkly, declares insane dominion over animals and women. Some might recall that he can hold his breath a long time, as he declared in "Creepshow." Many will be shocked to witness Nielsen beat and assault Barbra Streisand in the 1987 drama "Nuts."
However, Nielsen did appear in a handful of comedies, most notably, playing Dr. Rumack in the Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker farce "Airplane!" The parody proved that he had a talent for deadpan comedy,...

Quick LinksBefore 'Game of Thrones' There Was 'Dragonslayer'Fans Noticed Similarities Between 'Dragonslayer' and 'Game of Thrones'Should You Watch 'Dragonslayer'?
George R.R. Martin's Game of Throneshas become a cultural phenomenon and the most beloved fantasy series of the modern era. The first book, having sold over 45 million copies in the US alone, led to the HBO series, which would draw an average of 9.3 million viewers per episode for its inaugural season. Yet, the foundational success of Game of Thrones can be owed to its forbearers, from the iconic work of J.R.R. Tolkien to the grimdark world of Conan as created by Robert E. Howard. On the screen, early works like 1963's Jason and the Argonauts set the precedent for decades of films celebrating the fantasy genre.
Yet, the underrated gem Dragonslayer has flown mostly under the radar, an initial failure at the box office that saw some later resurgence in appreciation.

The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie has recently released a new trailer that serves as both a reminder that Looney Tunes still have the potential to dominate the big screen and the lost potential that was Coyote vs Acme. The Looney Tunes have recently re-entered the public mind with the intense discourse surrounding Coyote vs. Acme; Warner Bros. Discovery shelved the film directed by Dave Green as part of a tax write-off. The aforementioned process ended with the film no longer being able to be released despite being completely finished.
Thankfully, The Day the Earth Blew Up was acquired by Ketchup Entertainment, allowing the Warner Bros. animation-produced film to see the light of day. The film premiered at the Annecy Animation Film Festival to rave reviews and reactions, further justifying the purchase of the movie. After watching The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, I found it fascinating that there has never been a standalone animated Looney Tunes movie. Yes, three “compilation” films were released during an early ’80s run, including Daffy Duck’s Fantastic Island, The Looney, Looney, Looney Bugs Bunny Movie, and Bugs Bunny’s 3rd Movie: 1001 Rabbit Tales.
And no, the Space Jam movies and the Brendan Fraser effort Looney Tunes: Back in Action do not count. The Orson Welles United Artists documentary Bugs Bunny: Superstar has a special place in my heart.
Since when do the iconic, classic Warner Brothers cartoon characters need anyone to help them? Finally, a wrong has been righted with The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie! It’s hilarious, and the script maintains the timeless comedic aesthetic while incorporating modern-day themes for today’s audience.

Heads might roll following this recent development. Today is Thanksgiving, a day to give thanks and be thankful for family, friends, and some great food that hopefully leaves you in a massive food coma. It's a day that most enjoy, but not Wednesday Addams. On the Netflix series Wednesday, the titular character portrayed by Jenna Ortega famously hates the Thanksgiving holiday and everything that comes along with it. So, in the spirit of good fun, the streamer has added the character, alongside Thing and Pugsley, to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, the Wednesday float is featured alongside several lookalike Wednesday performers and accompanied by a live rendition of the Rolling Stones classic, "Paint It Black," performed by Bishop Briggs. The float features Wednesday serving her brother Pugsley's head (in float-form) on a silver platter, with Thing perched right on her shoulder. If this float was to happen,...

Judging by entertainment news, the term "animated" might seem like an industry euphemism for "tax write-off." And despite Warner Bros. being the most destructive thing to happen to cartoons since the eraser, its new feature film, The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, is getting love from critics. The first reviews are in for the Looney Tunes movie that managed to escape Warner Bros.' clutches and land a theatrical release (more on that in a moment), and the response from critics so far is overwhelmingly positive.

“The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie” is one of the animated delights of the year. The post-Star Wars effects boom in the 1980s didn’t just bring sci-fi back to prominence, but fantasy and horror as well. Virtually every filmmaker of the era was desperate to show audiences something they’d never seen before with the newfound era of more sophisticated physical effects. The first non-Lucasfilm production to utilize Ilm, “Dragonslayer” was intended to be a prominent, big-budget example, but tanked at the box office, largely regulated to late-night cable showings.
Though released on DVD by Paramount with little fanfare back in the market’s early days, the film has cultivated a following since its 1981 release, finally earning a bit of recognition with the recent Blu-Ray and 4K reissues and accolades from the likes of George Rr Martin and Guillermo del Toro, the latter of whom contributes a commentary track to the new release alongside the film’s director, his longtime collaborator Matthew Robbins.

Long Live Looney Tunes. Unfortunately, the same cant be said for a lot of other IPs once under the Warner Brothers banner. Among a laundry list of theatrical take-downs, website wipes and digital content deletions, WB recently scrubbed one of its longest-standing streaming services. Standing as the director and writer behind The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, Pete Browngardt commented on the recent cancelation of Boomerang, the all-around classic toon channel:
Its becoming more and more difficult to, at times, find classic animation thats out there. Especially with the streaming services. From Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump to Cillian Murphy in Oppenheimer, some of the best Oscar-winning actors were given plenty of screen time to shine in their Academy-favorite performances. Its always impressive when an actor wins an Oscar with limited screen time, like Anthony Hopkins for The Silence of the Lambs or Beatrice Straight for just five minutes in Network, but theyre much more likely to catch the Academys attention if theyre on-screen for the overwhelming majority of the movie. The more screen time an actor has, the more opportunities they have to wow Oscar voters.
The Academy Awards for Best Actor and Best Actress tend to go to movies that essentially function as a showcase for their lead actor. Joaquin Phoenix is on-screen for all but 19 minutes of Joker (and a few of those minutes are end credits). Even though the opening act of Forrest Gump covers the characters childhood,...

Shell is a film made with the intention of being a guilty pleasure. It wants to be the film one would encounter on cable in the middle of the day or late at night. Many films have become popular this way, especially before the days of streaming: scrappy little films with a campy sense of humor and talented cast getting to play around and stretch their acting muscles in ways that feel low-stakes for their career. Worst case scenario, the film becomes a curiosity — not good, but fascinating enough in its badness. And the best-case scenario is becoming one of those hidden gems that have a second life on home video.
That’s clearly what director Max Minghella is aiming for with Shell, a campy horror dark comedy about the unfairness of beauty standards in modern society. Six years after his directorial debut, Teen Spirit, Minghella is back at the...

As one of the best character actors in the business, David Krumholtzs best movies and TV shows display the incredible career the actor has had over the past several decades. Krumholtz started his onscreen career as a child actor in movies like Addams Family Values and has remained a big part of the business ever since. Throughout the years, he has worked with filmmakers like the Coen Brothers, Ang Lee, and Christopher Nolan, showcasing his talent in comedy and drama.
While Krumholtz has rarely been the leading man, he has also elevated most of the projects he is in with scene-stealing performances and a memorable presence on screen. Krumholtz can play the goofy best friend, the complicated genius, and even a short-tempered elf. With such a wide variety of roles throughout his career, it is hard to say which of his projects he is best known for, but there are some that stand out.

In Shell, Elisabeth Moss stars as Samantha Lake, a thirty-something actress whose career is already on the decline due to Hollywoods penchant for prioritizing beauty and youth over talent. When Samantha seeks out help via wellness guru Zoe Shannon (Kate Hudson) and her company, also called Shell, her life transforms overnight. Naturally, this is all too good to be true.

I always think of my other favorite fictional Chicago doctor when Chicago Med‘s Crockett Marcel is on screen.
The news that Marcel is leaving Med is heartbreaking, but I’ve been there before, in 1996 when Mandy Patinkin’s Jeffrey Geiger left Chicago Hope.
The two characters have a lot more in common than both working for fictional Chicago hospitals, including similar tragedies in their pasts that drove less than desirable behavior during their early episodes.

Mandy Patinkin’s Jeffrey Geiger Was A More Over-The-Top Version of Crockett Marcel He Did Things Marcel Would Never Dream Of, But For Similar Reasons
Jeffrey Geiger personified over-the-top behavior in a way that Crockett Marcel does not.
He often lost his temper and did things that would be unthinkable in real life, such as breaking another driver’s headlights with a golf club when the driver took...
