Steven Spielberg's $1 Billion Sci-Fi Masterpiece With 91% on Rotten Tomatoes Is a PVOD Hit 32 Years Later
Image
If the latest PVOD charts are any indication, dinosaurs will never go out of style. 32 years after wowing audiences in theaters, Jurassic Park has once again become a hit, this time on iTunes.

According to FlixPatrol, as of July 9, Jurassic Park is ranked No. 9 on iTunes' Top Movies list. Steven Spielberg's 1993 sci-fi classic is in good company, as two of its sequels, 2015's Jurassic World and 2018's Jurassic World Dominion, are slightly above it at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. Based on Michael Crichton's 1990 novel of the same name, Jurassic Park follows a group of visitors as they struggle to survive and escape Isla Nublar — home of Jurassic Park — after a catastrophic power failure shuts off the safety precautions, allowing the de-extinct dinosaurs, including the vicious T-Rex and velociraptors, to roam free.

Jurassic Park was led by Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern, and Sam Neill, who respectively portrayed Drs. Ian Malcolm,...

It's 2025 And I Just Watched Jurassic Park For The First Time – These Are My Honest Thoughts
Image
Yeah. I know.

It's obviously appalling that, in 2025, at the ripe old age of 34, I'm only just now watching the original "Jurassic Park" for the first time. I've weirdly skated by without having seen it for this long, and I can earnestly say that nobody has ever directly looked me in the eye and asked, point blank, "Have you seen Steven Spielberg's 1993 masterpiece 'Jurassic Park?'" I'm ready to reveal this genuinely embarrassing fact about myself after my colleague here at /Film, Danielle Ryan, bravely confessed that she'd never seen "Jaws" before and wrote about what it was like to watch it for the very first time. So here I am, admitting that I, a person who writes about movies and TV for a living, somehow missed "Jurassic Park."

I don't even know how to fully explain this massive, T-rex sized blind spot in my pop culture Rolodex...

20 Must-Watch Movies for Fans of the Dark Academia Vibe
Image
Let’s talk about Dark Academia, it’s basically the genre that holds up a mirror to the academic world and doesn’t always like what it sees. You can’t mention Dark Academia without paying homage to The Secret History by Donna Tartt, which essentially birthed both the aesthetic and the genre as we know it.

If you’ve spent any time scrolling through Tumblr or Pinterest, you’ve definitely encountered the visual vibe: tweed blazers, elitist attitudes, fountain pens, and that perfect sepia filter that makes everything look mysteriously vintage. But Dark Academia is more than just an aesthetic – it’s a genre with specific themes.

We’re talking academic settings, characters obsessed with art and literature, sharp critiques of institutional elitism, and yes, the occasional death. The films we’re diving into today might not tick every Dark Academia box, but they capture that unmistakable vibe perfectly.

Ranking 30 Best Movie Franchises of All Time
Image
Several movie franchises feel like that one friend who never overstays their welcome, but just when you think they’re done, boom, another banger drops. Yep, we’re talking about those superheroes to wizards, fast cars to galaxy-saving movie franchises that have given us swoon-worthy blockbusters, epic cliffhangers, and at least one character we’re too much invested in.

Be it lightsabers, Infinity Stones, or just plain ‘I don’t have friends, I got family’ dialogues, these cinematic universes have truly mastered the art of drawing us back in. And honestly, some of the sequels slap so hard that the original, we just can’t stop binge-watching it all over again. No, we’re not talking about who made the most money; it’s about the ones that left a deep mark and made us yell in theaters, cry over fictional deaths, and maybe even dress up at midnight premieres.

How To Watch The Jurassic Park Movies In Order
Image
Michael Crichton's novel "Jurassic Park" actually began its life as a 1983 screenplay about a graduate student that accidentally recreated a pterosaur in a lab. Crichton put it down, however, when he noticed the overwhelming volume of dinosaur media in the world. He picked it back up again when he realized that no one will ever get tired of dinosaurs and eventually turned his screenplay into his successful 1990 novel.

The rest is history. Steven Spielberg adapted "Jurassic Park" to film in 1993, and it became one of the highest-grossing movies of all time. In the ensuing 32 years, Spielberg's film gave rise to six "Jurassic Park" sequels, two animated TV shows, two live-action shorts, and a merchandise empire that is only outstripped by those of Marvel and the "Star Wars" franchise.

The canonical, live-action entries in the "Jurassic Park" property are as follows:

"Jurassic Park" (1993) "The Lost World: Jurassic Park" (1997) "Jurassic Park III...

Marvel legend joins the cast of the next Godzilla x Kong movie
Image
It's pretty apt that the next movie in Legendary's MonsterVerse franchise is generating such discussion around Easter time, for it was Easter last year that saw the most recent film in the series take the world by storm upon its release. This year, it's all about the casting, as the film has added yet another major star to its ever-growing cast.

The third movie in the Godzilla x Kong saga and sixth overall in the MonsterVerse film series (and to feature at least one of the titular movie monster legends), the upcoming sequel was commissioned off the back of the monumental success of last year's Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. And for this new, somewhat unanticipated next chapter in the franchise, the monsters are reeling in some big stars.

The most recent addition to the line-up comes in the form of a Hollywood icon who knows a thing...

Jurassic World Rebirth has a scene from Michael Crichton's book that was cut from the original movie
Image
Today is a day for dinosaurs! Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment have just unleashed the first trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth, the seventh installment in the long-running franchise about dinosaurs chomping up humans who too foolhardy to think, "hey, maybe we shouldn't resurrect long dead creatures to sell theme park tickets." I've had the trailer on loop for the better part of the day, and despite some initial misgivings about this movie existing at all, the hype is starting to get me.

It helps that Jurassic World Rebirth has a really strong creative team behind it who seem to be genuinely fired up about the movie. Director Gareth Edwards is a long-time fan of the franchise who has made an undeniable mark on sci-fi filmmaking with movies like Godzilla (2014), Star Wars: Rogue One and The Creator. Vanity Fair published an extensive preview of Rebirth which includes some telling quotes about...

Jurassic World Rebirth is doing the one thing Jurassic Park couldn't
Image
It probably goes without saying at this point, but considering just how many blockbusters we have coming out in July 2025 alone, we're going to say it anyway: Jurassic World Rebirth is one of the most anticipated movies of the year.

The seventh film in the Jurassic Park / World franchise, it seeks to reboot the billion-dollar phenomenon just three years after its previous installment, Jurassic World Dominion, wrapped up the arc 30 years (plus 65 million more) in the making. To do that, Universal has enlisted Godzilla director Gareth Edwards, Jurassic Park scribe David Koepp, and a star-studded cast featuring Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, Mahershala Ali, Dead Boy Detectives star David Iacono and more.

The film arrives this summer, where it will be joined in the month of July by James Gunn's Superman movie and Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps. While there will be no doubt many reasons to ensure...

Luca Guadagnino at an event for I Am Love (2009)
Stanley Kubrick’s Aryan Papers | Luca Guadagnino wants to direct
Luca Guadagnino at an event for I Am Love (2009)
Luca Guadagnino is reportedly talking to Warner Bros about bringing Stanley Kubrick’s unrealised Aryan Papers to the screen.

Luca Guadagnino seems to love being linked to various projects, as it’s not uncommon for the filmmaker to airily throw out the title of a new film that he is (or sometimes is no longer) attached to. At the tail end of last year, he was attached to a comic book adaptation of Sgt Rock, while just last month he played down the long-standing rumour that he’d be tackling a remake of American Psycho starring Austin Butler.

This is all par for the course for Guadagnino, though, who has previously talked up (or down) connections to other projects such as Lord Of The Flies, Scarface, Separate Rooms and an Audrey Hepburn biopic. As it stands, at least two of those projects (the Hepburn one and the Scarface remake) are...

Jurassic Park Gets Scientifically-Accurate Raptors In Impressive Remake Video
Image
Jurassic Park has received scientifically-accurate raptors in an impressive remake video, which replaces the Velociraptors in its famous kitchen scene. Raptors are some of the most well-known dinosaurs in the franchise, sporting scaly designs in almost every movie, with one, Blue, becoming a core character in the first Jurassic World trilogy. Due to their popularity, the upcoming Jurassic World Rebirth will likely feature them once again. However, their reptilian designs aren't accurate to what real raptors looked like, as the actual dinosaurs had feathers, making them more akin to birds.

Now, CoolioArt has created a video replacing the Velociraptors in Jurassic Park with more scientifically-accurate raptors, showcasing the models in the movie's famous kitchen scene. As specified in the description, these new versions are large Deinonychus, which was their original classification in Michael Crichton's original novel. Tim's (Joseph Mazzello) dialogue is even changed to reflect this with a text-to-speech voiceover.

A Jurassic Park Fan Edit Reveals What Scientifically Accurate Raptors Would Look Like
Image
Dinosaurs have changed since we were kids. Having a four-year-old son means I've recently delved back into the world of these prehistoric beasts, much to the delight of my inner child and the dismay of my wife. I'm here to tell you that we've been lied to. Not intentionally, of course. But it turns out scientists just didn't have all the facts when '90s kid were busy growing up on "Jurassic Park."

If you happen to be one of those kids, you'll surely be slightly taken aback to find out that T-rex was not, as Steven Spielberg would have had us believe, entirely covered in scales, but at least had some feathers. More specifically, as The New York Times reported in 2019, T-rex are now thought to have had patches of feathers "for display." What's more, all the way back in 2007, a study confirmed for the first time that Velociraptors were also feathered dinosaurs,...

Andrew Garfield Explains What Social Network Was Really About 14 Years Later
Image
Andrew Garfield offers his thoughts on what The Social Network is really about. The 2010 David Fincher movie tells the story of Mark Zuckerberg and the founding of Facebook, which became a massive social media empire. Garfield played Eduardo Saverin, who is known for being a co-founder of Facebook with Zuckerberg. In addition to Garfield, The Social Network features a leading cast of Jesse Eisenberg, Justin Timberlake, Rooney Mara, Bryan Barter, Dustin Fitzsimons, and Joseph Mazzello.

In an interview with GQ, Garfield explained what he thought The Social Network was really about. In a lengthy explanation, Garfield broke down the relationship between Eduardo and Mark in the film, describing it as a "one-sided love, brotherhood relationship." He felt the relationship portrayed a phenomenon experienced by "the majority of human beings." In addition to the Eduardo and Mark portion of The Social Network, he also discussed the film's themes of holding multiple...

Can the Next Jurassic World Movie Can Tie Up a Decades-Old Plot Thread?
Image
Your browser does not support the video tag.

With another Jurassic World movie on the way and new opportunities awaiting, the next installment can tie up decades-old plot threads. After Jurassic Park evolved into the Jurassic World series, there was more to explore and a legacy to carry on. Although Jurassic World Dominion billed itself as "the epic conclusion to the Jurassic era" and Jurassic Park's grand finale, there are still many aspects of the overall Jurassic Park lore that can be explored in more depth. The park has closed, the dinosaurs have found a place in the modern world and a considerable part of the remaining cast appears content, riding off into an amber-tinged sunset. However, there are stories that the franchise forgot, young characters who faded into obscurity, and a legacy that still looms in the shadow of the iconic gates of Jurassic Park.

Whatever Happened To Lex Murphy Actress Ariana Richards From Jurassic Park?
Image
Odd though it may seem, part of the reason "Jurassic Park" endures as a blockbuster classic is surely due to its horror elements. Like director Steven Spielberg's "Jaws," the 1993 movie gets downright hair-raising at times — an experience made all the more visceral by the fact there are two young children enduring the ordeal.

Alongside Drs. Alan Grant, Ian Malcolm, and Ellie Sattler, John Hammond's (Richard Attenborough) grandchildren find themselves stranded on Isla Nubar after the power goes down and several ravenous dinos are set free. Tim and Lex Murphy (Joseph Mazzello and Ariana Richards) provided a proxy for kids everywhere, putting young imaginations straight into the heart of the film and making the terrifying set-pieces all the more effective as a result.

Since the 1993 classic debuted, the "Jurassic Park" franchise has continued, remaining a popular saga even some 30 years after Spielberg's original bowed. However, while several of...

In addition to Garfield, the film featured a leading cast including Jesse Eisenberg, Justin Timberlake, Rooney Mara, Armie Hammer, Dustin Fitzsimmons, and Joseph Mazzello. It was nominated for multiple Oscars, winning three, including Best Adapted Screenplay for Sorkin.

10 Movies That Killed Major Actors Shockingly Fast
Image
Surprising, daring movies that subvert audience expectations have long since been a staple of film-making. Few of these subversions come as more of a surprise than when a major actor is killed off in the movie far earlier than expected, with typical narratives making viewers assume that big-name stars will survive to the end of the story. By pulling a metaphorical rug out from underneath these audiences and killing off a major actor, these movies end up ingraining themselves in viewers' minds by re-establishing just what is at stake in the plotline.

Whether the actor was a large part of a movie's promotional material, or had been tipped to be the main protagonist early on in the film, these major deaths have left a lasting impression on cinema. Sometimes, the death of the actor early on serves as a way to enhance one's viewing experience by keeping them on the edge of their seat,...

Is That Adult Tim In Jurassic World Rebirth?
Image
One of Jurassic World Rebirth's new characters looks awfully like an adult Tim Murphy, sparking speculation about the original Jurassic Park child character returning at last. Joseph Mazzello played Tim Murphy in Steven Spielberg's original Jurassic Park. The young boy and his sister, Lex, returned for minor roles in The Lost World: Jurassic Park, but they were absent from the trilogy conclusion. The Jurassic World trilogy did not bring them back either, even as Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler, and Ian Malcolm came back. Now, Jurassic World Rebirth's first images have brought some adult Tim confusion.

In the first look at the 2025 movie, Jonathan Bailey and Scarlett Johansson's Jurassic World Rebirth characters are shown crouching amid tall grass as they look at something, probably a dinosaur, out of frame. Based on the image alone, some might initially think they could be adult versions of Tim and Lex. Jonathan Bailey's character,...

“We were digging ditches, getting screamed at”: 1 Actor’s Illusion of Reality Shattered Soon After Getting Cast in Steven Spielberg’s Sequel to ‘Band of Brothers’

The 2001-released Band of Brothers, an HBO miniseries, delves into the history of the Easy Company, which was part of the 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division, and played a major role on the Western Front of World War II.

Directed by Steven Spielberg with Tom Hanks playing a cameo and acting as an executive producer, the series is widely regarded as one of the best depictions of World War II, and the intricacies of war.

Band of Brothers [Credit: HBO]Regardless, Spielberg and Hanks then came together in 2010 to create The Pacific, a companion piece of the Band of Brothers which was also well-loved for similar reasons. While the earlier series focussed on the Easy Company, The Pacific, another 10-episode HBO production, focussed on three regiments of 1st Marine Division.

In it, actor Joe Mazzello played the role of Eugene Sledge, a marine of the 5th regiment.

Is Jurassic Park the Greatest Blockbuster of All Time?

Jurassic Park elevated blockbuster filmmaking by incorporating crucial themes like family and the dangers of playing God. Spielberg's visionary combination of groundbreaking visuals and masterful storytelling makes Jurassic Park a timeless classic. The film's exploration of morality, legacy, and the consequences of tampering with nature make Jurassic Park a must-watch for any film fan.

In the '90s, few films redefined cinema like Jurassic Park. It dragged dinosaurs into the digital age, forged a franchise from fossilized remains, and created a billion-dollar property that opened doors for Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern and Chris Pratt. However, after over 30 years in the wilderness, can this trailblazing blockbuster still live up to its own legacy?

The Pacific is a companion series to Band of Brothers that follows real Marines fighting in WWII in the Pacific Ocean. The cast of The Pacific includes James Badge Dale, Rami Malek, Jon Seda, and Joseph Mazzello. 10 Most Controversial Biopics (& Why They Were So Divisive)
Image
This article contains discussions of sexual assault, sexism, and racism.

Bohemian Rhapsody faced criticism for its portrayal of Freddie Mercury's bisexuality and for fictionalizing events, challenging the patience of devoted fans. Blonde received backlash for its questionable treatment of sexual assault and abortion, with some calling it "anti-abortion propaganda dressed up as art." The casting of Zoe Saldaña instead of a Black woman in Nina sparked controversy, leading Saldaña to express regret for accepting the role.

Given the enduring impact of countless historical and cultural figures — and the myriad lives they've touched — it's unsurprising that so many real-life stories find themselves made into biopics, but some are more controversial than others. Regardless of a film's quality or faithfulness to real events, historians and diehard fans will inevitably have some qualms with the end result. Oppenheimer, the biopic directed by Christopher Nolan, is surpassing expectations and is on track to reach an impressive $912 million at the box office this weekend. Despite having a higher budget and an R-Rating, Oppenheimer is already the third most successful film in Nolan's career, behind only The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. There are rumors that Nolan may direct the next James Bond film, further solidifying his position as a highly sought-after filmmaker.

Oppenheimer continues to amaze the world with its incredible performance at the box office. The biopic of the father of the atomic bomb directed by Christopher Nolan continues to break records, and is finally dethroning the king of biopics, Bohemian Rhapsody.

The 2018 film starring Rami Malek, who managed to win an Academy Award for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury, was an absolute success at the time, reaching a total of $910.8 million dollars. Oppenheimer, which hit...

Adam Brody's River Wild Is Bringing White Water Horror Back To Life On Netflix
Image
One of the latest thrillers to hit the ever-changing digital carousel over on Netflix is a new take on an old classic called "River Wild." Currently one of the most viewed releases on the streamer, the adventure film sends viewers hurtling down treacherous whitewater rapids in a fairly straightforward story of survivalist horror. Inspired by director Curtis Hanson's "The River Wild" starring Meryl Streep and Kevin Bacon, this most recent version mostly jettisons the character dynamics of the original 1994 film in favor of the slightly more campy teens-in-peril trope.

Unless you consider "Deliverance" to be horror adjacent (and there are plenty of reasons why that's justifiable), there is a serious drought in the number of genre films offering up high stake thrills taking place on a whitewater rafting trip gone horribly awry. "River Wild" may not necessarily live up to the original, but it does offer up another chance...

12 Harsh Realities Of Rewatching The Original Jurassic Park Trilogy
Image
Viewers planning to revisit the first movies anytime soon may want to familiarize themselves with the harsh realities of rewatching the original Jurassic Park trilogy. Comprised of three of the most successful movies at the turn of the century, the Jurassic Park trilogy pulled off the impossible by bringing author Michael Crichton's novel about dinosaurs to life. Guided by characters like Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), Dr. John Hammond (David Attenborough), and the kids Tim (Joseph Mazzello) and Lex (Ariana Richards), audiences were transfixed by Steven Spielberg and Joe Johnston's monumental sci-fi adventures.

However, while every original Jurassic Park trilogy movie is considered iconic, each is also a product of its time. This means that viewers today may be surprised at certain aspects of the films that they may not have noticed upon the first or second viewings.

Is The River Wild Based On A True Story?
Image
The 2023 film The River Wild and its 1994 predecessor are not based on true stories, so viewers can rest assured that real-life tragedy did not occur during a whitewater rafting trip in Idaho. The original River Wild movie from 1994 drew inspiration from a fly-fishing article, highlighting the intriguing connection between two seemingly unrelated activities. The remake of the 1994 film was motivated by the original thriller but features a different storyline focused on estranged siblings and their disturbed childhood friend.

The River Wild documents a terrifying whitewater rafting trip where members of the group start turning up dead, so, of course, one must wonder if the film is based on a true story (and if they should avoid off-the-grid whitewater rafting trips in the future). The 2023 thriller movie, starring Leighton Meester, Adam Brody, and Taran Killam, focuses on three characters — Joey, Trevor, and Gray — reuniting to embark on a treacherous journey through desolate woods in Idaho.

Is River Wild A Remake? How It Connects To Meryl Streep's 1994 Movie
Image
Where to Watch Powered by "River Wild" is a new take on the 1994 film, not a remake or reboot, according to the team behind the production. It is a standalone sequel set in the "universe" of the original. The 2023 version of "River Wild" introduces original characters and a new setting in Hungary, differing from the 1994 film's Idaho setting and characters. The new film focuses on the inner dynamics and tensions of a group of siblings and their childhood friend, creating a more intimate and gritty story set in an exciting river adventure.

The 2023 iteration of River Wild changes up the formula of the 1994 Meryl Streep classic, but it's not quite a remake. The original, underrated adventure-meets-thriller film is remembered well as a box-office hit. The movie chronicles the white-water rafting trip of the Hartman family, which turns from an exciting chance to bond into a truly terrifying ordeal. The River Wild...

Image
Almost exactly one year ago today, we heard that real-life couple Leighton Meester and Adam Brody, along with Taran Killam (Meester’s co-star in the TV series Single Parents) would be starring in a reimagining of the 1991 thriller The River Wild, which starred Meryl Streep, David Straithairn, and Joseph Mazzello as a family that had the bad luck of crossing paths with criminals played by Kevin Bacon and John C. Reilly while on a river rafting trip. Now Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that they’ll be giving the reimagining, which drops the definite article and is simply called River Wild, a digital, Blu-ray, and DVD release on August 1st – and along with this announcement comes the unveiling of a trailer, which you can watch in the embed above!

Jurassic Park’s Sequels Proved The Human Characters Were Always More Important Than The Dinosaurs
Image
Jurassic Park's most iconic moments feature the Velociraptors and the T-Rex, but it's the human characters that make the scenes memorable, and their absence in the sequels is why they failed. The original 1993 movie was revolutionary, as no other action movie had seamlessly intertwined digital and practical effects. While it's a little more obvious now, at the time, it was impossible to decipher between the two. Seeing the gigantic creatures on the big screen was jaw-dropping, and there had been nothing like it before, and there hasn't been much like it since, not even in the sequels.

However, while the dinosaurs are undeniably a big appeal of the franchise, it's easy to overlook the real heroes, Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), and John Hammond (Richard Attenborough). Everything from their iconic outfits to their different stances on the idea of genetically modified dinosaurs...

Cool Stuff: Celebrate Jurassic Park's 30th Anniversary With Dino-Mite Lego Sets
Image
This year marks the 30th anniversary of Steven Spielberg's modern classic blockbuster "Jurassic Park." In honor of the milestone anniversary, Universal will be celebrating the original dinosaur adventure all year long, including a bunch of new merchandise for fans to collect.

Perhaps the most exciting reveal so far is a batch of new "Jurassic Park" Lego sets that finally deliver perfectly sized building brick versions of the Jurassic Park Jeep and Ford Explorer from the doomed theme park. But of course, it wouldn't be a proper "Jurassic Park" Lego collection without a batch of dinosaurs and minifigures for all the important characters from the beloved movie. There are also crucial details for fans to enjoy, such as the Barbasol shaving cream can be used to smuggle dinosaur DNA and the "one big pile of s***" that Ian Malcolm wryly comments upon while checking on a sick Triceratops.

Steven Spielberg Went To Hilarious Lengths To Inspire Jurassic Park's Cast
Image
The rate at which Steven Spielberg has pumped out classic movies over his nearly 50-year career is astounding. From his directorial debut with "The Sugarland Express" in 1974 to this year's Toronto International Film Festival People's Choice Award winner "The Fabelmans," Spielberg has put out more bonafide classics than perhaps any modern director.

"Jurassic Park" may be Spielberg's greatest film of all. The 1993 adventure film's innovative special effects, amazing score, and strong cast help it stand the test of time. On paper, it's not surprising that a Spielberg film about dinosaurs rocked. Spielberg rocks, dinosaurs rock. It adds up.

But despite having a story with an absolutely killer premise, the success of "Jurassic Park" was not pre-ordained. It still required lots of hard work on the part of the cast, crew, and Spielberg himself. Spielberg especially had to work very hard to keep his actors motivated when they had to act...

Jaws Scared Steven Spielberg Into Cutting A Wet And Wild Jurassic Park Scene
Image
A troublesome production doesn't always mean a bad film. Case in point, "Jaws." The 159-day-long shoot went over budget and behind schedule, with many of the problems stemming from the star special effect: "Bruce" the mechanical shark. The making of "Jaws" was so eventful that there have been multiple books and a stage play recounting it. And yet, the film was still, to put it mildly, a success.

The lessons that director Steven Spielberg learned on "Jaws" influenced how he would make "Jurassic Park" almost 20 years later. According to Joseph McBride's "Steven Spielberg: A Biography," the director's goal with "Jurassic Park" was, "to make a good sequel to 'Jaws.' On land." Some unpleasant memories from the "Jaws" shoot even caused Spielberg to scrap a planned set-piece featuring a swimming T. Rex.

The Deleted T. Rex Scene

Compared to Michael Crichton's original novel, Spielberg's "Jurassic Park" is stripped down to the essentials.
