Six decades later, she returned to the beloved musical, this time in a brand-new role crafted specifically for her by Steven Spielberg, who also invited her to serve as an executive producer on his adaptation of the musical classic.

Few directors in film history could have pulled that off, but Spielberg is undeniably one of them.

4K Uhd Blu-ray Review: Mike Nichols’s ‘Carnal Knowledge’ on the Criterion Collection
Image
Released during the rise of second-wave feminism in the 1970s, Mike Nichols’s Carnal Knowledge is a fascinating cultural artifact. While the masculine fear of female dominance was prevalent in the noirs of the 1940s and ’50s, few, if any, American films before Nichols’s dramedy turned their focus so intensely toward the inner workings of men’s minds in relation to women and sex.

Taking as its subject the wounded male ego, Carnal Knowledge traces the friendship between and sexual exploits of Jonathan (Jack Nicholson) and Sandy (Art Garfunkel) from their college years in the late ’40s through to their middle-age years in the early ’70s. Written by cartoonist and author Jules Fieffer, the film is fiercely attuned to the feelings of men reckoning with the knowledge that they’re not as dominant in the culture as they once were.

From deflowering Sandy’s girlfriend and future wife, Susan...

Bella Ramsey Makes Emmys History As First Openly Non-Binary Actor To Be Nominated More Than Once With Another ‘The Last Of Us’ Nom
Image
Bella Ramsey received their second Emmy nomination Tuesday morning, making history as the first non-binary performer to earn more than one nom from the Television Academy.

Ramsey is one of five nominees in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for their performance as Ellie in Season 2 of HBO’s The Last of Us. They also were nominated for the same role at the 75th Emmy Awards in 2023.

The Last of Us scored 16 nominations for the upcoming 77th Emmy Awards, bringing the series’ total to 40 across two seasons. The series won eight golden statuettes in 2024.

There have been few openly non-binary and transgender performers to be nominated at the Emmy Awards. In 2023, Yellowjackets star Liv Hewson declined to submit for the acting categories at the Emmys because the categories are separated to recognize male and female actors separately.

‘The Four Seasons’ Breakout Marco Calvani on Going Very Gay and Very Italian for the Netflix Series

Hollywood Insider - Beyond the Spotlight: What Earning an Egot Really Says About a Star

From Audrey Hepburn to Elton John, these icons have claimed the ultimate showbiz honor — but an Egot is more than just a trophy shelf flex. The Most Exclusive Club in Entertainment Winning an Egot — the acronym for Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony — represents one of the rarest and most prestigious accomplishments in the world of entertainment. With fewer than 25 stars in history having pulled it off through competitive wins, joining this club is more than collecting awards — it signals an artist’s ability to transcend mediums, reinvent themselves, and remain relevant across decades (explaining Audrey Hepburn’s spot in victory). Tina Fey on ‘The Four Seasons’: ‘It was a challenge to be restrained about where we put jokes’
Image
“Just one more time,” says Tina Fey. “It was time for me to go back into something just one more time, before they put me in the ground.”

With a string of successes from 30 Rock, Mean Girls, Saturday Night Live to Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, turns out it was a 40-year-old movie that inspired the award-winning triple threat to take another creative swing.

“I’ve always loved the movie since I was 11 years old,” Fey tells Gold Derby of the 1981 feature The Four Seasons. As luck would have it, the film was made for Universal Studios, where she happens to have an overall deal. More crucially, she also secured the blessing of Alan Alda, who wrote and directed the original, and has a cameo in Fey’s limited series adaptation for Netflix. “I think he's delighted that this movie he made 40 years ago is still speaking to people in these two different ways,...

Sonja O’Hara is back onscreen with another genre-bending queer feature, this time titled “Snare.”

O’Hara made her debut feature with “Root Letter,” which starred Danny Ramirez. “Snare” stars O’Hara as Rowena, a mycologist studying the connection between all living mushroom biology. Yet it’s her own drug-fueled chemistry with ex Jackie (Mars) that threatens to disrupt life as she knows it.

Before Friends, Matt LeBlanc Starred In Two Failed Spin-Offs Of A Beloved Sitcom
Image
When it first hit the airwaves, Michael G. Moye and Ron Leavitt's 1987 sitcom "Married... with Children" represented a revolutionary turn of events. The bulk of TV sitcoms throughout the 1980s skewed wholesome, often depicting idealized, loving suburban families dealing with recognizable domestic drama. In most cases, there was a non-threatening air to American TV that reflected the bleak conservatism of the Reagan era. "Married... with Children" deliberately flew in the face of TV's perceived wholesomeness, presenting a family of miserable, ignorant, awful, unhealthy characters who all openly hated one another. The Bundy family only seemed to live together out of spite, refusing to murder each other because they knew staying alive was a better way to inflict misery.

The series was, perhaps bafflingly, a major hit for Fox, lasting 259 episodes over the course of 11 boffo seasons. It eventually took on a dangerous skew, offering more and more brazen titillation...

Do Sports Emmys count toward an Egot? A brief investigation
Image
After Lady Gaga won the Best Music Direction Sports Emmy for her pre-Super Bowl performance of "Hold My Hand," most of the media coverage around the honor (including Gold Derby's) focused on one major implication.

Gaga is just a Tony Award away from achieving Egot status.

As iconically coined by Miami Vice star Philip Michael Thomas and later popularized by fictional Egot aspiree Tracy Jordan of 30 Rock, the acronymic honor is bestowed upon anyone who wins an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony. And since Gaga already has a pile of Grammys (14) and an Oscar for cowriting "Shallow" from A Star Is Born, the Sports Emmy would make her just one trophy shy of joining the likes of Elton John, Audrey Hepburn, and Rita Moreno.

As an accomplished multihyphenate artist and established pop icon, Gaga would fit easily among the ranks of previous Egot winners, but the honor's unofficial-ness has always...

Lady Gaga wins Sports Emmy, placing her just a Tony Award short of Egot
Image
At Tuesday night's 2025 Sports Emmy Awards, Lady Gaga took home her first Emmy. She won for Best Music Direction of "Hold My Hand" for the Super Bowl Lix pregame show. With previous victories at the Oscars and Grammys, that places her just a Tony Award short of Egot.

This marked her fifth try at winning an Emmy following nominations for her variety specials Lady Gaga Presents the Monster Ball Tour: At Madison Square Garden, Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga: Cheek to Cheek Live!, and One Last Time: An Evening With Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga, plus the special class program Super Bowl Li Halftime Show Starring Lady Gaga.

Lady Gaga won her Academy Award for the song "Shallow" from the 2018 film A Star Is Born. She is a 14-time Grammy Award winner, with the first for The Fame and "Poker Face" in 2010 and the most recent earlier this year for...

Lady Gaga Nears Egot Status After Sports Emmy Win
Image
Lady Gaga is now only one Tony Award away from an Egot. Last night, the singer was awarded a Sports Emmy for Outstanding Music Direction for singing “Hold My Hand” ahead of the Super Bowl in New Orleans earlier this year.

The performance was notable as Lady Gaga used the moment to pay tribute to the 14 people who died during a Jan. 1 terrorist attack on Bourbon Street. She showcased Oscar-nominated Top Gun: Maverick single at a piano in the middle of the iconic New Orleans street, accompanied by a local gospel choir.

Tina Fey reimagines Alan Alda's The Four Seasons (but is it good?)
Image
There’s a sequence in Alan Alda’s 1981 movie The Four Seasons in which all of the main characters converge on a classic Connecticut college for a parents' weekend and end up playing a friendly game of soccer.

Alda uses the game to highlight the competitiveness of the two primary players. The set piece is the same in Tina Fey’s new interpretation – now playing on Netflix – but the sport has changed. Now they are all playing ultimate frisbee.

This is just one of the many ways Fey and her co-creators – Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield – have managed to remain faithful to Alda’s original while expanding the scope.

With a writer like Tina Fey in charge, how could Four Seasons go wrong?

For instance, whereas the soccer scene in the original film primarily results in a showdown between the two alpha males in the group – Jack (Alda) and Nick (Len Cariou) – Fey,...

‘The Four Seasons’ debuts at No. 1 on Netflix
Image
The Four Seasons is No. 1.

Netflix’s new comedy series from cocreator Tina Fey topped the streaming platform’s viewing charts between April 28 and May 4, taking down the buzzy final season of thriller series You. That The Four Seasons only premiered on May 1, while You was available in full for the entire week, further buttresses its bona fides as a budding hit for Netflix.

“We are beyond thrilled at how many people have watched and loved The Four Seasons,’” cocreator Lang Fisher said in a statement to Gold Derby. “Thank you to everyone who wrapped themselves up in a blanket, got cozy, and binge-watched the whole thing in one sitting. We love you!”

The Four Seasons has long been expected to factor heavily into the Emmy Awards race, although some pundits have expressed slight concern over its May release date. In recent years, shows that arrived during the final month...

The Tina Fey Miniseries Taking Over Netflix Is Perfect For The White Lotus Fans
Image
If you're expecting the fast-paced outright absurdity of "30 Rock" or "Girls5Eva" when you queue up Tina Fey's new Netflix series "The Four Seasons," you might be caught off guard. But while this project is a bit different from a lot of Fey's small-screen work, it's still yet another worthy effort from the multi-talented "Saturday Night Live" veteran. Based on Alan Alda's 1981 movie "The Four Seasons," which was written, directed, and led by Alda alongside Carol Burnett, Rita Moreno, and Len Cariou, this Netflix miniseries of the same name reimagines the story for modern times. Fey, who created the show with her longtime collaborators Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield, stars as Kate, who's married to Jack (Will Forte), and every "season," they vacation with their friends Danny (Colman Domingo), Danny's husband Claude (Marco Calvani), Nick (Steve Carell), and his wife Anne (Kerri Kenney-Silver). According to FlixPatrol, the...

The Four Seasons Creators Address Possible Season 2 for Tina Fey & Steve Carell's New Netflix Hit
Image
The Four Seasons creators opened up about the possibility of doing another season of Netflix’s newest comedy drama series, which is being led by Golden Globe winners Tina Fey and Steve Carell. This marks the comedic duo’s latest collaboration, after previously starring in 2010’s Date Night movie and 2013’s Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues movie.

During a recent interview with TV Insider, Fey and Tracey Wigfield shared their potential plans for The Four Seasons’ future should they be given the chance to make a second season. They confirmed that the next installment would definitely bring back the main cast. “If we did another season, we would want the same group of friends, and we’d want Ginny to really be tied in there because she and Anne are going to have children who are siblings. And it just gives us a lot to play with in their relationship,...

‘The Four Seasons’ Creators on Killing [Spoiler], Why That Mean College Play Is a ‘Tina Fey Special’ and Adapting Alan Alda’s Beloved 1981 Movie
Image
Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers from Season 1 of “The Four Seasons,” now streaming on Netflix.

“The Four Seasons” — the new Netflix dramedy created by Tina Fey, Tracey Wigfield and Lang Fisher — is about a group of close friends, and how one year in their lives tests them, pulling them apart and then bringing them back together. Based on the 1981 movie written and directed by Alan Alda, who also co-starred, the series has brought Fey back to series television for her first regular role since “30 Rock.” When she was a tween, Fey watched the movie, she tells Variety, “many times” after it came out “in the early days of cable, when they would have three movies in rotation.” Back then, she says, “The Four Seasons” gave her the feeling of, “‘This is what grown up life should be like’ — and it always stuck with me.”

When Fey and frequent...

‘The Four Seasons’ Co-Creators Found Its Authentic Comedy Harder to Write Than the Wild World of ’30 Rock’
Image
Note: This story contains spoilers from “The Four Seasons.”

Most people would assume that the zany worlds of “30 Rock,” “Never Have I Ever” and “Great News” would be more difficult to write than a grounded relationship comedy. But that wasn’t the case for Tracey Wigfield and Lang Fischer, who created Netflix’s “The Four Seasons” alongside their longtime collaborator Tina Fey.

“We really had to police our whole room,” Fisher told TheWrap. Most of the writers for “The Four Seasons” have “30 Rock” in their past writing credits.

“It was a learning curve to understand what exactly is the tone. How do we make scenes — even if they’re not packed with jokes — feel dynamic and interesting enough so that they’re not just scenes from a Hallmark movie or something,” Wigfield told TheWrap. “You can cover up a poorly written scene with a bunch of really funny...

Tina Fey & Steve Carell's New Netflix Miniseries Debuts With Rare 100% Score on Rotten Tomatoes
Image
Tina Fey is a beloved comedian, and she has created multiple successful comedies. It looks like she is now continuing the same trend with her latest Netflix limited series, The Four Seasons.

Fey created the limited series for Netflix alongside Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield, her frequent collaborators on multiple projects, including the hit comedy 30 Rock. The new version of The Four Seasons puts a fresh and modern take on the classic 1981 romance of the same name, and also features Steve Carell in the star-studded cast, alongside Colman Domingo, Kerri Kenney-Silver, Marco Calvani, and Will Forte. The limited series just dropped on Netflix, and it comes with a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The limited series, which consists of eight episodes, has just premiered on Netflix, and its perfect score comes from nine reviews. As more reviews come in, its score might fluctuate, but the early reaction to Fey...

Tina Fey’s ‘The Four Seasons’ Has Nothing Funny to Say About Middle-Aged Problems
Image
In the series premiere of 30 Rock, created by Tina Fey, TV showrunner Liz Lemon (Fey) meets Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin), Ge’s new Vice President of East Coast Television and Microwave Oven Programming and, thus, her new boss. Most of the time, the humor of their relationship derives from the gap between Liz’s quasi-adolescent mess of a life and Jack’s suave self-assurance. Liz is the one who can (for instance) eat a foot-long sandwich in a few gigantic bites rather than abandon it at a Tsa checkpoint, whereas Jack is the one who’ll change into a full tuxedo after 6 p.m. on an average weekday because he’s not “a farmer.”

But Jack can get up to nonsense too: picking up an Eastern European sex worker and bringing her to ruin one of his stars’ Valentine’s Day plans; bringing a seemingly catatonic patient on a...

Roush Review: Old Friends, Familiar Story Over a Year’s ‘Four Seasons’
Image
If the gorgeous sun-dappled scenery and the mostly familiar faces weren’t already signals that we’re in for a heaping helping of comfort-food TV, the Vivaldi music clinches it. Even if you never saw the original 1981 The Four Seasons, written and directed by and starring Alan Alda, with a cast including fellow legends Carol Burnett and Rita Moreno, Oscar winner Sandy Dennis and Len Cariou, you’ve seen variations on this formula before. Netflix’s press materials proudly trumpet the fact that this is a “cozy new comedy.” Nothing wrong with that. We could all use a break from today’s woe and chaos. The updating by Tina Fey (co-creator with fellow 30 Rock writing alums Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield) adds a more bittersweet tang by the end of a year spent in the company of three couples with whom overfamiliarity breeds if not contempt than occasional aggravation and discomfort.

Tina Fey and Steve Carell reunite in 'The Four Seasons'

The Netflix comedy follows three couples whose friendships get tested across four vacations.

Tina Fey, Tracey Wigfield, and Lang Fisher? I’m already in. I’ve been a fan of Fisher since she co-created “Never Have I Ever,” and when you add Fey and Wigfield to the mix — two of the sharpest comedy writers working today — you just know it’s gonna hit. “The Four Seasons” takes a cozy cult classic film and spins it into something totally new: eight episodes, three couples, and a year’s worth of friendships put to the test. The whole thing drops Thursday, May 1, only on Netflix.

Tina Fey Embraced “the Sandler Model” for New Show ‘The Four Seasons’: “Actors in Nice Locations, Wearing Flat Shoes”
Image
After largely writing and producing for the past few years, Tina Fey is back onscreen, this time headlining new Netflix series The Four Seasons.

The show is an eight-episode remake of the 1981 rom-com of the same name, directed by Alan Alda and starring Alda, Carol Burnett and Rita Moreno. Fey — who also served as the series’ co-creator — has loved the movie since she was 11, and “that was so thrilling to me as a kid, to see these people I love from other things come together. I thought, ‘Oh, could I assemble an ensemble like that?'” she told The Hollywood Reporter at the Los Angeles premiere on Thursday.

“And also not going to lie, there are some of the practicalities of it of like, oh my god, what if it’s just six or seven actors in nice locations, wearing flat shoes and sweaters — could we get away with it?...

Rita Moreno Missed Scheduled ‘Everybody’s Live With John Mulaney’ Appearance Due to a Bout of Vertigo, Rep Says
Image
Rita Moreno couldn’t make it to a scheduled appearance on “Everybody’s Live With John Mulaney” on Wednesday due to a “bout of vertigo,” representatives for the Egot-winning legend said Thursday.

“Happy to report nothing serious,” her spokesperson added in a statement to Entertainment Weekly. “She is bummed. We heard today she’s on the mend.”

The “West Side Story” actress, who lives in Berkeley, California, apparently could not get on a plane to fly down to Los Angeles because of the vertigo spell, but was otherwise fine.

Mulaney announced her absence on this week’s edition of the talk show, which launched on Netflix in March. “Some of you are aware that we had Rita Moreno, the great Rita Moreno, booked on this episode, and I’m very sorry to say that she cannot be here tonight. We hope she’s doing Ok. Rita, if you’re watching — I...

The Four Seasons is a Fresh Look at a Cult Classic
Image
When looking back at cinema’s comedy canon, the 1981 cult favorite The Four Seasons might not be the first film that comes to mind as ripe for reimagining. But for Tina Fey, who created, wrote, and executive-produced a new series inspired by the movie — alongside fellow 30 Rock writer-producers Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield — the niche classic has always been at the top of her list. “I was a huge fan, even though I was only 10 when the movie came out. It was a movie that played a lot in the early days of cable TV, and that’s how I would see it so frequently,” she says of the original, which starred Rita Moreno, Carol Burnett, and Alan Alda, who also directed the film. “It just felt very cozy and aspirational.”

The romantic comedy focused on the ups and downs of three married couples across spring, summer,...

Tina Fey Claims That Lorne Michaels Has A Bug Named After Him
Image
The American Museum of Natural History once honored Saturday Night Live creator and king-maker Lorne Michaels by naming a creepy-crawly after him so that young comedic actors and actresses can have a second reason to react hysterically to the phrase, “Lorne Michaels is on the phone.”

Tonight’s episode of Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney was supposed to feature an appearance from 93-year-old film legend Rita Moreno who would have joined a panel of Mulaney, Conan O’Brien and Ayo Edebiri to discuss the question of the night, “Are dinosaurs put together correctly?” Unfortunately, Moreno couldn’t make it to the livestream in Los Angeles for yet-undisclosed reasons, so Mulaney filled the spot of the West Side Story star with another A-list leading lady who bears a dramatically different filmography: Tina Fey.

The Saturday Night Live great and 30 Rock creator isn’t a paleontologist, which put her in good...
