Chuck Palahniuk Admits Brad Pitt’s Film Mastered One Thing His Book Lacked
Image
In a defining moment in the history of filmmaking, Chuck Palahniuk was left awed by David Fincher‘s adaptation of his debut novel, Fight Club, starring Brad Pitt. The film’s streamlined narrative helped the otherwise dense story flow more easily as compared to the clunky and often incomprehensible nature of the original text.

In an interview with Geoffrey Kleinman [reported via DVD Talk], he went on to praise the movie for more than just its fluid structure. Fincher also outwitted Palahniuk by ironically linking the film’s plot to the very thing the novel tried to criticize:

I was sort of embarrassed of the book because the

movie had streamlined the plot and made it so much more effective and made

connections that I had never thought to make.

There is a line about “fathers setting up franchises with other families,” and I never thought about connecting that with the fact that Fight Club...

The 15 Most Overrated Oscar-Winning Movies Of All Time
Image
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has done lots of good for the movie industry, as both a business and an art form. Most notably, since the first ceremony in 1929, they annually honor a crop of the year's best films with the Academy Awards, colloquially known as the Oscars. These awards are often wonderful barometers of cinematic quality, drawing audiences toward films they might've otherwise never seen. But sometimes -- or, depending on your point of view, quite often -- the Academy gets it wrong. They ignore what's obviously the superior film of the year in favor of something milquetoast, suspect, or otherwise overrated.

Some of these notable films, whose wins almost immediately received cultural asterisks, include "Green Book," "Crash," and "Driving Miss Daisy." But others still need a touch of critical drubbing, and today is the day to humble these disproportionately honored flicks. With all this in mind,...

Jeremy Renner Starred In This Underrated Action Movie The Same Year As The Avengers
Image
There was a period when Jeremy Renner was on a winning streak. After landing a role in Kathryn Bigelow's award-winning war drama, "The Hurt Locker," he was appearing everywhere. Besides following it up with an impressive performance in the Ben Affleck-directed heist movie, "The Town," he then started switching between spy stories and superhero outings in three of the biggest franchises at that time.

After joining the Imf alongside Tom Cruise in "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol" and drawing back his bow with Earth's Mightiest Heroes in "The Avengers," Renner dared to try and pick up the slack left by Matt Damon's amnesiac assassin, Jason Bourne, in the spin-off espionage thriller "The Bourne Legacy." While it received a lukewarm reception at the time and a so-so success at the box office, it feels that, even riding off of the "The Avengers," Renner's run in the Bourne-verse stands...

Jason Statham and Alan Ritchson's 'Fast X' Team-Up Is an American Streaming Hit
Image
Alan Ritchson is hard at work filming Reacher Season 4 right now, but ahead of its arrival, the star’s biggest box office hit is tearing up streaming charts. Ritchson stars alongside Jason Statham and Vin Diesel in Fast X, the 2023 Fast & Furious movie following Dom Toretto and his family, who are the targets of a brutal vengeance campaign by drug kingpin Hernan Reyes (Jason Momoa). Fast X is streaming on Starz in the United States and on Netflix globally, but it’s quietly crept into the Starz top 10 in America, sitting at #8. The film earned scores of 56% from critics and 84% from audiences on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes, and it grossed $704 million against a $340 million budget, which makes it one of the most expensive movies ever made.

Fast X recruited plenty of stars to bring the 10th Fast & Furious movie to life beyond Ritchson, Statham, and Momoa, though.

Four years after Hutch Mansell accidentally wound up dismantling a chunk of the Russian mob, he’s back, and this time, the chaos has a boarding pass. Matt Damon Almost Landed This Iconic Role—But Edward Norton Scored It & an Oscar Nod Too!
Image
When Matt Damon Lost a Career-Defining Role to Hulk (Photo Credit – Prime Video/Wikipedia)

Long before Matt Damon headlined The Bourne Identity or joined Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, he was a hungry young actor chasing a breakout role. One of those golden-ticket chances arrived in the form of Primal Fear, a twisty courtroom thriller directed by Gregory Hoblit. The 1996 movie went on to earn over $102 million (via Box Office Mojo) and launched Edward Norton into stardom.

Damon, who had already endured a few near misses, was gunning hard for the lead role. He even spent money he didn’t have on training. But rejection came knocking again, and it turned out to be a weird blessing in disguise.

Matt Damon Nearly Landed Role That Edward Norton Made Iconic

It is closing in on beating the domestic haul of one of the early MCU movies, which is also the second-least earning film. Robert Downey Jr’s Confusing Post Credit Scene Explained: Marvel’s Official Answer
Image
Not everyone would have seen the 2008 Marvel film that was hailed as one of the worst Marvel movies, The Incredible Hulk. If you do watch it, though, you’ll notice Robert Downey Jr. in a post-credit scene in the film (Posted by TK503/Reddit)!

Why Is Robert Downey Jr. in The Incredible Hulk?

During the post-credit scenes of The Incredible Hulk, Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark goes up to William Hurt’s Thaddeus Ross in a bar and sits beside him. Tony Stark explains that he is putting together a team.

Directed by Ron Howard and produced by Brian Grazer at Imagine Entertainment, “Apollo 13” recounts the true story of astronauts Jim Lovell (Tom Hanks), Jack Swigert (Kevin Bacon) and Fred Haise (Bill Paxton), who embarked on the eponymous space odyssey that became one of the tensest rescue missions in NASA history. From well-known, iconic classics to underseen, forgotten films, the streamer has movies you either may not have ever heard of before or ones you have been meaning to check out for years. Case in point: Its psychological thriller collection includes the most underrated film that “Andor” creator Tony Gilroy has ever made, as well as one of the most beloved and oft-quoted movies of the 1990s.

Here are the best psychological thrillers you can stream on HBO Max in July.

“Duplicity” (Universal Pictures) “Duplicity” (2009)

The Career-Changing '90s Crime Thriller Matt Damon Missed Out On
Image
Hollywood's metaphorical attic is full of stories and rumors about legendary actors who turned down or missed out on iconic roles that could've steered their careers in an entirely different direction. Jake Gyllenhaal bombed his "The Lord of the Rings" audition, Matthew McConaughey thought he got Jack's role in "Titanic" when he didn't, and Russell Crowe had one of the worst table reads ever (according to director P.J. Hogan) that prevented him from getting the lead part in the beloved rom-com "My Best Friend's Wedding." I'm here to tell you about another scenario that, in retrospect, probably wasn't as painful or unfortunate, considering how the life path of the actor in question has unfolded after missing out on an Oscar-nominated role in one of the most memorable "twist movies" of the '90s.

As you might've figured, I'm talking about Gregory Hoblit's "Primal Fear," the 1996 psychological thriller led by Richard Gere,...

The Big Bang Theory's Kaley Cuoco Missed Out On A Major Murder Mystery Movie
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Kaley Cuoco is still, to this day, best known for her role as Penny Hofstadter on "The Big Bang Theory," a show that defined her career for its 12-season run from 2007 to 2019. While this makes sense, I can also see why Cuoco probably wanted to explore very different projects after playing the bubbly blonde who ends up befriending a bunch of dorks and marrying one of them (Johnny Galecki's Leonard Hofstadter), and as it turns out, she had a huge post-"Big Bang Theory" audition that didn't go her way.

In a 2022 cover story with Glamour (one penned by Jessica Radloff, who also wrote "The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series"), Cuoco opened up about the fact that she really wanted a role in "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery," the sequel to...

Seth Rogen’s Raucous Adult Animated Comedy Serves Up a Piping Hot Season 2 Trailer
Image
Nearly a decade ago, when the adult-animated comedy flick Sausage Party jumped off the shelves and into cinemas, it’s unclear whether the minds behind it had any idea of just how popular it would become. While Seth Rogen was gunning for a feature-length sequel for years, he eventually got the next best thing — an episodic series. Now, heading into its sophomore installment, today marks the debut of the long-awaited trailer for Sausage Party: Foodtopia Season 2. With favorites like Rogen, Michael Cera, Edward Norton, and Will Forte returning to voice their characters Frank, Barry, Sammy Bagel Jr., and Jack, respectively, the next fresh batch of piping-hot episodes will also feature plenty of new celebrity voices as the boys strike out on their latest adventure.

Things aren’t looking so great for Frank at the beginning of today’s trailer. He’s still (understandably) grieving the tragic loss of his beloved...

The 15 Best Summer Movies Of All Time, Ranked
Image
The sun is out, the air is humid, and the beach is crowded with tourists and families. Summer is officially here, which, for many of us, means that we're going to spend the next few months not enjoying the great outdoors, but staying inside where there's air conditioning and ice cream. But what should we be watching on our summer movie marathons while everyone else is leaving the TV off to visit water parks and take cross-country trips with their loved ones?

Have no fear! These 15 films may span a wide range of genres -- from comedy to fantasy to even horror -- but they all have one thing in common: They all take place in the summer. The characters might be people looking to get away from their monotonous lives on vacation, or may simply be used to living their life in the summery weather of Los Angeles or Italy.

Before He Conquered The Box Office, Christopher Nolan Won This Dueling Movies Battle
Image
The Christopher Nolan of 2006 was not the Christopher Nolan of today. Though he had cut his teeth as a tentpole director on "Batman Begins" a year earlier, Nolan hadn't gone into that movie with the intent of launching a trilogy. Nor, for that matter, had he shown any inkling of becoming a big-budget tradesman exclusively. Even on "Batman Begins," Nolan hadn't entirely brushed off the mindset of an artist painting on a smaller canvas and used basic camera setups for much of the action.

This didn't radically change with his follow-up, "The Prestige," but the movie was still a crucial stepping stone to his love affair with IMAX and the more dynamic filming style he embraced in the years that followed. The 2006 period piece tells a small-scale tale of two rival magicians in a way that makes it feel like an epic, in no small part thanks to director of photography Wally Pfister.

This Marvel Star’s 55% Rotten Tomatoes Spy Thriller From the Creator of 'Andor' Is Dominating Streaming
Image
Over the course of three movies, Matt Damon brought Jason Bourne — a character first crafted by author Robert Ludlum — to life in a series of films that some know as The Bourne Trilogy. After unfurling the character’s mysterious spy background and sending him on numerous missions, the time eventually came to pass the baton, with Jeremy Renner picking up the torch and continuing the high-octane franchise in 2012’s The Bourne Legacy. Now, more than a full decade since the divisive film first crashed into cinemas, it’s receiving a boost of new life thanks to its streaming arrival on Paramount+. According to FlixPatrol, the Tony Gilroy-directed and co-penned production is clocking in on the Top 10 chart in numerous countries, including Bolivia, Mexico, Peru, and Venezuela, alongside other popular titles such as Gladiator II and Top Gun: Maverick.

Although the first movie in the then-blossoming franchise, 2002’s The Bourne Identity,...

Mark Wahlberg’s $61 Million Action Flop He Said “Inspired People to Vote” Is a Streaming Hit in America
Image
Mark Wahlberg's Flight Risk recently began streaming on Starz, but another of his iconic action flicks has returned to streaming glory alongside the recent Mel Gibson-directed thriller. Wahlberg stars alongside Michael Peña in Shooter, a 2007 conspiracy thriller that follows an expert marksman living in exile who is called back into his old life after being double-crossed. Shooter is currently streaming on Paramount+, the service it has called home for several years now, and it’s clawed back into the top 10 nearly 20 years later, sitting at #10 at the time of writing. The film grossed only $95 million at the box office, against a $61 million budget, failing to reach its break-even point. It also earned divisive scores of 47% from critics but 80% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

During a 2013 interview with Hollywood.com, Wahlberg spoke about the political overtones in Shooter, even expressing hope that it will "inspire people to want to go...

These MCU Moments Were Too Good For The Movies & Shows They Were In
Image
It doesn't matter what you think about superhero movies; there's no denying that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is an incredible feat of storytelling and filmmaking prowess. The film franchise has produced some of the greatest action films of the past few years, including "Iron Man," "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," and "Black Panther," though it's not uncommon to hear criticism of the MCU movies after "Avengers: Endgame," given the series' overarching struggle to recapture the magic of the Infinity Saga.

The MCU has, thus far, consisted of nearly 40 films (including 2025's "Thunderbolts*" and "The Fantastic Four: First Steps") and over 25 television series, so it's no surprise there's been a fair share of projects that haven't exactly resonated with audiences. While some of these films deserve more praise in the public eye, there are still good scenes, even those found amid the more unpopular moments in the MCU franchise.

Though this list is far from comprehensive,...

Ridley Scott’s 39% Rotten Tomatoes War Epic Redeemed by Its Director’s Cut Lands a New Streaming Home
Image
Ridley Scott’s TheKingdom of Heaven may not have conquered the box office or critics when it first arrived, but the historical epic has become coveted by major streaming platforms in recent years. The movie landed on Prime Video last fall, and now it's expanding its digital footprint as it has recently arrived on Hulu. The war epic became available to stream on Hulu from July 1, increasing the show's chance of being discovered by a new generation of viewers and, for rewatchers, an opportunity to re-evaluate one of Scott’s most divisive works.

Originally released in 2005 to great fanfare, TheKingdom of Heaven boasted an impressive pedigree: Scott at the helm, a post-Lord of the RingsOrlando Bloom in the lead, and a sprawling medieval story of the Crusades co-starring Liam Neeson, Eva Green, Jeremy Irons, and Edward Norton. The budget ballooned to $130 million, and understandably, expectations were set sky-high. But the...

All 36 Marvel Cinematic Universe Movies Ranked
Image
For almost 20 years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has held an iron grip on pop culture. Releasing a Marvel flick was basically a license to print money. But although it's lost a little bit of social cache since then, for a long time MCU films were not just incredibly popular but remarkably consistent.

This makes compiling a ranked list of Marvel movies particularly difficult: There are standout gems at the top and some that are a bit of a disappointment, but there's not a whole lot of daylight between the pictures vying for the middle spots. This is a testament to the Marvel machine -- there are very few out-and-out losers among its filmography. But which are the best? Pick up Thor's hammer, and get ready to disagree -- here are the MCU films, ranked.

Director, 72, Still Hopes His 26-Year-Old Classic With 84% Rt Score Will Get A Director's Cut
Image
The director of one of the most controversial movies of the 1990s is still hoping to make a director's cut over 25 years after the film's debut. The 1990s was an exciting time for cinema, and major studios suddenly found themselves challenged by small-but-powerful production houses that consistently delivered exciting films.

Though the decade delivered plenty of straightforward blockbusters, there were also numerous subversive and challenging movies that saw a wide release. The decade is still beloved for its wide assortment of cinematic offerings, even if the filmmakers behind those classics aren't entirely satisfied with the finished product, or the process of making the movie.

Nearly 27 years after the controversial movie first hit theaters, director Tony Kaye is still holding out hope for a director's cut of 1998's American History X. The celebrated filmmaker told Peoplethat he thinks it's "sad that it's become as important as it's become", tying the film's...

Ridley Scott’s $218 Million Historical Epic With Divisive Rt Score Just Found a New Streaming Home
Image
Acclaimed filmmaker Sir Ridley Scott has been behind some of the most iconic films of all time. He has helmed many box office hits, although his projects weren't always a hit with the critics.

2005's Kingdom of Heaven is one of them. His lesser-known historical epic premiered on May 6, 2005, and received mixed reviews, but made decent money at the box office. As the film recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, Kingdom of Heaven has also scored a brand-new streaming home and will head to Hulu on July 1, per WhenToStream.

The historical epic had previously switched streaming homes late last year. Ahead of Gladiator II's release, which marked the sequel to probably one of Ridley Scott's most famous works, 2000's Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven headed to Prime Video on Nov. 1. The film had been available on Disney+ before, and now it's heading to Hulu.

The move is not surprising. Kingdom of Heaven...

Every MCU Movie Ranked from Worst to Best (Updated for Phase 5)
Image
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has reshaped blockbuster cinema with its sprawling web of heroes, villains, and cosmic stakes. Since 2008, it’s delivered thrills, laughs, and heartbreak, but not every film lands with the same punch.

We’ve ranked all 36 MCU movies, from the forgettable to the iconic, including the latest Phase 5 entries. Let’s dive into what makes each film soar or stumble, counting down to the very best.

36. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023) Marvel Studios

Quantumania’s messy plot and dodgy CGI sink what could’ve been a bold kickoff for Phase 5. Scott Lang’s Quantum Realm adventure feels like a theme park ride gone wrong.

Jonathan Majors’ Kang had potential, but the film’s tonal whiplash and wasted cast, including Bill Murray, make it the MCU’s lowest point. It’s a rare miss we’d rather forget.

35. The Incredible Hulk (2008) Marvel Studios

Bruce Banner’s solo outing...

'Sinners' Has Now Doubled the Global Box Office Haul of Jason Statham and Mark Wahlberg's 73% Rotten Tomatoes Remake
Image
Ryan Coogler's cultural phenomenon, Sinners, has arguably been the highlight of the 2025 cinematic run to date, standing out as one of the shining beacons of fresh-minded filmmaking in a sea of remakes, reboots, and adaptations. To date, the movie has consistently proved remarkably successful at the box office, still somehow finshing inside the top 5 in the domestic rankings on its sixth weekend, one that saw it do battle with the new arrivals of Lilo & Stitch and Tom Cruise's final mission as Ethan Hunt, Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning.

As of current figures, the Michael B. Jordan-led movie has accumulated a global box office total of $357 million, split between $272.9 million domestically and a further $84.6 million in overseas markets. This is enough for Sinners to officially surpass Alien: Romulus at the worldwide box office and edge ever closer to the five highest-grossing horror movies of all time. Amazingly,...
