'Birds of Prey' Star, 38, Reveals If She Will Return in James Gunn's Dcu [Exclusive]
Image
With the release of James Gunn's Supermanofficially pushing his Dcu forward, some are looking back at those who last brought certain DC Comic characters to life. That also leaves a wide berth for the rest of the Dcu, even after the healthy dose of new characters debuting in Superman. Looking back, other DC-related projects includeBirds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). The 2020 film followed Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn (after previously starring as her in Suicide Squad) and brought to life one of the lesser known DC Comic teams (as opposed to say The Justice League or Justice Society of America). Cannes Review: Highest 2 Lowest Marks a Lesser Collaboration for Spike Lee and Denzel Washington
Image
Spike Lee’s joints are known for their sweeping coverage of New York City, in particular Brooklyn, and even more specifically Bed-Stuy––hardly ever the luxurious, Gotham-tinged, cobble-stoned streets of Dumbo. Outside a short doc made for the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce in 2016, Lee hasn’t set a film in Dumbo since his 1986 debut She’s Gotta Have It. He’s returned nearly 40 years later for Highest 2 Lowest, his spin on Akira Kurosawa’s High and Low, a film itself adapted from Evan Hunter’s novel King’s Ransom.

“Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’”––the opening theme to Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma!––comes in gently with trembling violins and strong vocals while drone shots float through Dumbo at dawn like the ghosts of artists never discovered. As Gordon MacRae bursts the song open with his bellowing voice, the morning breaks, the energy livens, and drones pick up images of Manhattan’s Financial District,...

10 Worst Dceu Movies Ranked – According to Fans
Image
The Dceu began with ambitious plans to match the success of the MCU, with Warner Bros. aiming to bring iconic DC characters to the big screen over a decade. Despite financial success, Snyder’s darker vision for the characters didn’t resonate with audiences, leading to the eventual reboot with James Gunn’s Dcu. While some Dceu films were well-received, others were considered significant flops.

Fans have compiled their picks for the 10 worst Dceu movies. Let’s dive into their selections.

10. ‘The Suicide Squad’ (2021)

After the mixed reception of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad (2016), expectations were high for James Gunn’s take on the franchise. However, some fans were disappointed as the film didn’t meet their expectations or align with their preferences. Gunn’s signature irreverent humor and over-the-top style, which were successful in movies like Guardians of the Galaxy, didn’t resonate with everyone, contributing to its place in the “top 10 worst” rankings.

40 Best Comic Book Movies of All-Time
Richard Donner at an event for 16 Blocks (2006)
Comics, for decades, have been an integral mainstay of popular literature. Though often undermined and unappreciated by many, superheroes and many others have touched the lives of millions through the pages of their colourful worlds. It’s been a long, strange journey for the comic book genre, and its path to cinematic success was equally challenging. We’ve seen Richard Donner’s “Superman” prove to the world in 1978 that there was, indeed, an audience for live-action superhero flicks, and then Tim Burton would reassure that notion again in 1989, with his groundbreaking blockbuster “Batman”. Then, of course, any ounce of progress that comics had made in the film industry was utterly destroyed and denounced upon release of the 1997 abomination that is “Batman and Robin”.

With help from “Blade” and “X-Men”, followed by Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man” in 2002 and Christopher Nolan’s “Batman Begins” in 2005, comic books had reclaimed their spot amongst...

It's almost time to bid farewell, but not goodbye to the Bridgeton teens. Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for the eighth and final season of Nick Kroll's animated comedy Big Mouth, teasing what's to come for Nick and his friends as they navigate a whole new set of challenges as high-schoolers. After graduating from middle school back in 2023, milestones are about to hit the kids hard and fast as they not only deal with their changing bodies, but also navigate sexual inexperience, drugs, driving, porn, cancel culture, and fear of the future in a complicated environment. In the end, however, what they'll need most to survive this overwhelming time is friendship and support from each other.

The hormone monster Maury opens the trailer by describing the end of Big Mouth as "the end of a very gross era." Though their final run together will be a bit messy...

‘Big Mouth’: Nick Goes Through Puberty and the Kids Start High School in Final Season Trailer
Image
To quote Nick Kroll’s Maury, “It’s the end of a very gross era.” “Big Mouth” dropped the trailer for its eighth and final season on Wednesday, and it’s just as upsetting and surprisingly sweet as this raunchy animated comedy has always been. The longest-running scripted Netflix original will premiere on May 23.

“Do you schmucks even know why you go through puberty?” Natasha Lyonne asks as a sassy new teacher. The video then cuts to a series of embarrassing scenes, from Missy (Ayo Edebiri) accidentally farting on another student’s lunch to Jessi (Jessi Klein) panicking about her Pms. But it’s not all humiliating bodily functions. The trailer also shows Lola (Kroll) introducing Matthew (Andrew Rannells) to something called the gay pornscape, a colorful land filled with men happily exploring their various kinks. And this season has a special surprise in store for one of its main...

Gary Dell’Abate on His Decades of Activism in the Fight Against HIV/AIDS on Behalf of Late Brother
Image
In New York City on May 8, the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation will honor veteran actress Rosie Perez and The Howard Stern Show icon Gary Dell’Abate by shining a light on their decades of activism on behalf of the cause. It will surely be a big night for the pair, and if Dell’Abate’s mother were still alive, he knows exactly what she would say.

“The most meaningful part of this whole thing for me is if my mother were still alive, I would give her the award and she would put it on her mantle,” Dell’Abate told The Hollywood Reporter by phone recently. “And she would tell everyone who walked in the house that Elizabeth Taylor gave her son an award.”

It’s an obvious thing to boast about, but the comment carries extra weight when considering why Dell’Abate got involved in the fight against HIV/AIDS in the first place.

5 comic book movies that deserve musicals
Image
When done correctly, musical films can transcend genres.

In 2022, director Todd Phillips announced a sequel to Joker (2019) was being made and was titled Joker: Folie á Deux. This announcement was shortly followed by the reveal that Folie á Deux would in fact be a musical, with Lady Gaga set to portray Harley Quinn. While fans went gaga over the casting, the musical aspect was baffling to many. After all, why would the sequel to a non-musical comic book film, all of a sudden become a musical?

In 2024, that question was answered with an extremely polarizing because Joker: Folie á Deux was an incredibly lackluster follow up to the 2019 film, but was this due to the musical element? In the same year, Marvel Studios and Disney+ released Agatha All Along, only to find praise for the spellbinding story and magical music. Both of these comic book projects featured musical elements, but...

Adult Swim's Medical Show Is A Hilarious Palate Cleanser For The Pitt Fans
Image
While the movie business has experienced a concerning degree of commercial and critical turbulence over the first three months of 2025, television has stepped up to provide entertainment seekers an impressive array of captivating new series, as well as stellar new seasons from returning shows. "Severance" just stuck the landing at the end of its celebrated second season, "The White Lotus" is back doing its darkly comedic thing with possibly its strongest cast to date, and "The Studio" is a brilliantly brutal Hollywood satire that takes no prisoners in showing viewers how the showbiz sausage is made.

Hence, it's a very high compliment to suggest that the new Max hospital drama, "The Pitt," might be the best of the '25 bunch thus far. Created by R. Scott Gemmill, a TV writing veteran who got his start on "ER" before taking the showrunning reins on "NCIS: Los Angeles," the show is a...

Final Big Mouth Season to Debut on Netflix May 23
Image
Netflix has announced that the eighth and final season of Big Mouth will premiere globally on the streaming service on May 23, 2025.

In the 10-episode season, our beloved Bridgeton teens tackle new challenges as high schoolers, such as driving, drugs, sexual inexperience, enthusiastic consent, porn, and the teenage mind, cancel culture, their changing bodies, and (in the end) fear of the looming future.

Through it all, friendship is the cornerstone for surviving this time of life – whether one’s puberty is just beginning, like for Nick, who gets his first growth spurt, or near its conclusion, like for a maturing (and prematurely balding) Andrew.

At the height of the season, when many of our characters are in crisis, Compassion (personified as a new creature voiced by Holly Hunter) emerges as a crucial way forward. Ultimately, though, this season is about the importance of sticking by and supporting your friends, especially when life gets overwhelming and messy.

Netflix brings one of the most important films ever to your home
Image
Netflix announced 12 new titles for the first of the month and then added a dozen more to the mix. The stealth release slate was at least as good as the previously announced group. Happily, it included one of my favorite films ever. If you haven't seen it yet, this is your chance to add it to your list.

I saw this movie at the theater when it came out in 1989. It was astonishing, amazing, and absolutely brilliant. Sounds like an especially arrogant LLC, doesn't it? Well, it truly was and still is all of those things. From the opening frame to the last, I was riveted, as was the entire audience. As soon as it was available on DVD, I had my own copy. That was followed by the Blu-ray, then the digital version. And lucky you, you get to watch it now on Netflix.

When I say this is...

Spike Lee's '90s Masterpiece 'Do The Right Thing' Is Now On Netflix
Image
As the days are getting longer and the temperature is starting to rise, Netflix has decided to stream the perfect movie for heading into the warmer months.NYU legend Spike Lee's famous 1989 film — set on the hottest day in Brooklyn — Do The Right Thing, has found a streaming home on Netflix as of March 1, 2025. Written by the She's Gotta Have It director in less than two weeks, the film is a beautiful love letter to Brooklyn that simultaneously exposes the deep racial tensions of New York City. Lee also stars in the film as the story's middle man, Mookie, a person torn between his Italian-American employer and the Black residents of his community.

While the stylized '80s film might seem like a snapshot of a time gone by, the film's themes of racial relations in the American melting pot are more pertinent now than ever. The film has...

5 Years Ago, One Of The Dceu's Best Movies Met A Grim Fate At The Box Office
Image
(Welcome to Tales from the Box Office, our column that examines box office miracles, disasters, and everything in between, as well as what we can learn from them.)

"I pitched the idea of an R-rated girl gang film including Harley, because I was like, 'Harley needs friends.'" That's what Margot Robbie said in May 2018, explaining how Harley Quinn's eventual 2020 spin-off film "Birds of Prey" came to be. "I wasn't seeing enough girl gangs on screen, especially in the action space."

Warner Bros. was in a weird spot around this time. Marvel was running laps around DC in the cinematic universe space, with "Avengers: Infinity War" shattering records in 2018 and the MCU collectively generating billions upon billions of dollars globally. DC, meanwhile, was reeling from the commercial disaster that was "Justice League," while trying to build on the success of "Wonder Woman." As part of that plan, they leaned...

Every Cameo In The Dead Don't Die
Image
The Dead Don't Die is independent director Jim Jarmusch's absurdist take on a horror comedy that centers on the reactions of people in a small town when they find themselves in the middle of a zombie apocalypse caused by polar fracking. The movie is led by Adam Driver and Bill Murray, but the supporting cast includes Tilda Swinton, Chloë Sevigny, Steve Buscemi, Danny Glover, Selena Gomez, and more, giving the movie a very impressive wealth of talent. While many main characters in The Dead Don't Die ultimately end up dying, their adventures along the way are pretty unusual and funny.

While the film received mixed reviews upon its initial release, when the movie was added to Netflix in December 2024, The Dead Don't Die quickly found streaming success. Its renewed popularity is no surprise given the deadpan humor, fourth wall breaks, and unexpected ending twist in The Dead Don't Die...
