The doctor who gave Matthew Perry ketamine before his death has now pleaded guilty to illegally supplying the drug. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Dr. Salvador Plasencia entered his plea in a Los Angeles court on Wednesday.

He admitted to four counts of ketamine distribution and could face up to 10 years in prison for each charge.

Plasencia was one of five people charged after Perry died from a ketamine overdose in October 2023. The actor, best known for playing Chandler Bing on Friends, was found unresponsive in his hot tub at home in Los Angeles. He was 54 years old. An autopsy later confirmed the cause of death was acute ketamine toxicity.

Several weeks after the report that Dr. Salvador Plasencia, also known as "Dr. P," will plead guilty, the doctor has finally entered a plea. Per the LA Times, the physician appeared in a Los Angeles federal court on Wednesday, Jul. 23, and pleaded guilty to multiple drug charges related to the Friends star's death.

"Dr. Plasencia is profoundly remorseful for the treatment decisions he made while providing ketamine to Matthew Perry," his attorney, Karen Goldstein, said in a statement. "He is fully accepting responsibility by pleading guilty to drug distribution."

The physician had supplied the Friends star with the drug through his live-in assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa. His assistant is also one of the people who were involved in his death, and pleaded guilty last year.

Matthew Perry’s doctor, Salvador Plasencia, entered a guilty plea Wednesday to four counts of ketamine distribution, and will face sentencing on Dec. 3.

As part of the deal, Plasencia, 43, will surrender his medical license within the next 30-45 days, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said. He will remain free on bond pending his sentencing.

On Monday, Dr. Salvador Plasencia agreed to plead guilty to illegally supplying the late Friends star Matthew Perry with Ketamine, which led to his accidental fatal overdose.

The agreement will see Plasencia plead guilty to four counts of distributing ketamine in the next few weeks. He faces a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison, three years of supervised release and a fine of at least $2 million.

Perry, 54, had been undergoing ketamine infusion therapy to treat anxiety and depression before his death on October 28, 2023. However, federal prosecutors said that he had solicited and obtained unsupervised doses, which led to him developing an uncontrollable dependence on ketamine. Perry had a long and very public history of substance addiction.
