Mickey Rourke, Mekhi Phifer and Udo Kier are teaming to lead “Mascots,” an independent thriller beginning production in Southern California in the fall.
Written and directed by Kerry Mondragon, the desert-set 1990s period piece follows two brothers (Oliver Hibbs Wyman and Blaine Kern III) who, with the help of some costumes, have escaped a lifetime of captivity under Rourke’s character.
Details on Phifer and Kier’s characters remain under wraps. Other actors attached include Felicia “Snoop” Pearson and Til Schweiger.
Calling the film “deeply personal” in a statement, Mondragon added that “Mascots” “reflects the ripple effects of toxic masculinity, mental illness and generational abuse that give birth to chosen identities and the raw, weird beauty of survival. I want to capture the dissonance of seeing the world for the first time through unfiltered eyes.”
Executive producers on “Mascots” include Kimberly Hines for Luminary Partners, Peter Gold of Gold Films for Castleland,...

While horror remakes often suffer from comparisons to the iconic films they try to reimagine, Dawn of the Dead (2004) remains a standout exception. Directed byZack Snyder in his feature debut and written by a pre-Guardians of the Galaxyand SupermanJames Gunn, this brutal, fast-paced reboot of George A. Romero’s zombie classic managed to earn critical respect, fan acclaim, and a new place in undead canon. Now, with the film set to leave Netflix U.S. at the end of this month, it’s the perfect time to revisit one of the greatest zombie reimaginings ever made.
Set during the early hours of a mysterious zombie outbreak, Dawn of the Dead stars Sarah Polley as Ana, a nurse who loses her husband in a brutal cold open that’s still one of the best horror intros of the 21st century. She soon finds herself holed up in a suburban shopping mall...

I genuinely want to know if anyone warned Jack Black about the post-credits scene in the new “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” He’s not in it, but it’s sure to draw attention to a mostly forgotten misfire from much earlier in the “Minecraft Movie” actor’s career.

High Potential‘s second season is on the way, and there are already exciting details we know so far, particularly about casting, but could a recent addition prove pivotal to the story? It was announced that Mekhi Phifer will join the series in a recurring guest role, and we can’t help but theorize about the character he’ll play. Could he step into the role of Morgan’s (Kaitlin Olson) missing ex, Roman? In exchange, Morgan requested that Lieutenant Selena Soto (Judy Reyes) search for the father of her daughter, Ava (Amirah J), who went missing years ago while out shopping for diapers. While many dismissed Morgan’s concerns at the time of Roman’s disappearance, she maintained that...

As fans gear up for the sophomore season of High Potential, which premieres this fall, several additions have been made to the cast list, with the most recent being a small-screen favorite. We are but one month away from the arrival of Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s I Know What You Did Last Summer and the hook-handed gods have shined down mercifully upon us with a fresh trailer. The only other official teaser came out months ago, in April, so we’re beyond grateful to witness more of the undoubtable greatness that will come when the film slashes into cinemas on July 18. Featuring the return of the franchise's final couple — Jennifer Love Hewitt’s Julie James and Freddie Prinze Jr.’s Ray Bronson — the trailer sees the past and present collide on a brutally graphic scale.
The new film appears to be leaning more into a Scream-like whodunnit than the two (kind of three) titles that came before it decades ago. In the original movie, filmmaker Jim Gillespie and writer, Kevin Williamson, took audiences on a deranged journey featuring some of the hottest young names of the time.

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson has a message for fans who want to know if Brandy Norwood will appear in the upcomingI Know What You Did Last Summer sequel: “You’ll have to go see the movie.” Recently speaking with People, the Do Revenge helmer was reluctant to share too much about the possibility of the pop superstar reprising her role as Karla Wilson from the 1998 film I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. With fellow survivors, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. having long been signed on to be part of the legacy follow-up, all eyes have been focused on Norwood as another original member of the friend group who nearly got caught on the hook of the crazed killer.
The actress has previously made comments surrounding her hopeful return to the slasher epic, and Robinson has been clear from the jump that her movie will honor the original and its 1998 follow-up as canon.

The upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer movie is untitled no more. Sony has officially titled the legacy sequel I Know What You Did Last Summer, copying a trend that began in 2018 with Halloween and continued with 2022's Scream.
An official synopsis and poster for I Know What You Did Last Summer were also released. Per Bloody Disgusting, the legacy sequel's synopsis reads, "When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences. As one by one the friends are stalked by a killer, they discover this has happened before, and they turn to two survivors of the legendary Southport Massacre of 1997 for help.

Frank Grillo is a go-to star when looking for a gritty action movie, and his films may not always hit the mark for critics, but audiences still love to watch them when they turn up on new streaming platforms. This has been proven in the case of Long Gone Heroes, which, more than a month after topping the Tubi chart, is now sitting at number two on Paramount+’s Top 10 chart.

The crime drama genre is a cluttered space. While its halls are heavily populated, not every resident is necessarily “good.” There are plenty of cinematic and critical flops. Not everything can be a Blood Simple.
Among these lesser-known flops is Spike Lee’s 1995 Clockers. In some ways, the film’s catchy but unimpressive title betrays its contents. Originally set to be directed by Martin Scorsese, the film ultimately landed in Lee’s lap. Its $25 million budget became a roughly $12 million deficit. Perhaps more damningly, almost a third of its income was earned during its opening week.

Frank Grillo has carved out a reputation for gritty, hard-hitting roles that have seen him jumping up the rankings of go-to action heroes. As well as appearances in big franchises such as The Purge, as Crossbones in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and now being part of the new Dcu, Grillo has delivered a long line of masculine action movies that fans just cannot get enough of. Now one of his 2024 offerings, Long Gone Heroes, is heading to the top of the Tubi free streaming chart.
However, with all that in mind, Long Gone Heroes is probably not one that will sit on the top of anyone’s personal list of Grillo greats – does anyone have that list? – but it is certainly proving a valuable asset to Tubi. The synopsis for the movie reads:
“Gunner, a special forces soldier who has witnessed the darkest side of country and combat, is forced...

We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, we’re lobbing queries left and right about Law & Order, Silo, The Way Home, Shifting Gears and more!
1 | Much as we enjoyed the Silo finale’s flashback coda, how are they going to explain the Pez dispenser that congressman Daniel gave journalist Helen winding up in Silo 18 some 300 years later? What, does it become someone’s family heirloom? Also, aren’t there some logic/logistical issues with regards to the Silo 17 vault generating meals for Solo/Jimmy to last 30 years (…and counting)?

Fans are in for a major ER reunion in today’s episode of Law & Order, and luckily, they can get a glimpse in the newly-released promo. On Thursday, January 23, Maura Tierney, who is a series regular on the procedural, will be reuniting onscreen with guest star Mekhi Phifer, and Eriq La Salle directs the episode. Those who followed ER throughout its run will definitely recall the aforementioned trio, as Tierney was nurse-turned-doctor Abby Lockhart for ten seasons, Phifer played Dr. Greg Pratt for eight seasons, while La Salle was Dr. Peter Benton for eight seasons.

It looks like the interrogation room scene that serves as a nice ER reunion on Law & Order for Maura Tierney (a series regular as Lieutenant Jessica Brady) and Mekhi Phifer as glimpsed in the promo and photos doesn’t go his way. TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek of the January 23 episode shows Lyman Ross in arraignment court with his attorney, Harris. Lyman is being charged with murder in the second degree, and he pleads not guilty. However, then Maroun (Odelya Halevi) makes her case against bail. “The evidence against the defendant is substantial. Police recently found a gun whose ballistics matched the bullet casing recovered at the scene. They also found the defendant’s DNA on the weapon and his fingerprints ...

Suicide Squad star Joel Kinnaman's The Silent Hour is doing very well on Hulu. The 2024 crime thriller was very recently atop the streamer's Top 10 most-watched movie chart.
Per FlixPatrol, The Silent Hour is currently second, dethroned on January 16 by Simone Stock's The Girl Locked Upstairs: The Tanya Kach Story. Kinnaman's movie has managed to hold off competition from the Twilight franchise, which rounds out the top 5 with three of its films; the original Twilight, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. The 2022 psychological horror survival film Fall is in the sixth spot, followed by the first three film entries from Keanu Reeves' popular action franchise John Wick. The fifth and final Twilight installment, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2, closes out the Top 10.

Joel Kinnaman’s 2024 action crime thriller The Silent Hour has made its way onto Hulu, bringing the film to a new audience after its low-key and divisive limited theatrical and VOD release back in October last year. While the film may have received mixed reviews on its initial release, landing on a new streaming platform is certainly a way of building a new audience for any movie, and Kinnaman’s film falls into that ever-popular “action” category that everyone loves to pass the time with.
The film is directed by Brad Anderson, who is probably best known for helming Christian Bale’s The Machinist, and finds Kinnaman being joined by Sandra Mae Frank, Mekhi Phifer, Mark Strong, and Michael Eklund among others for a movie that may not hit exactly the right notes, but does just enough to please the majority of thrill-seekers. “If you’re a fan of intense thrillers, The Silent Hour is a must-watch. Directed by Brad Anderson and released in 2024, this film brings a whole new level of suspense. It stars Joel Kinnaman as Frank Shaw, a hearing-impaired cop who finds himself in a sticky situation. Alongside him is Ava, played by Sandra Mae Frank, a witness to a murder. The twist? Both of them are trapped in a building while a group of armed men is hot on their trail, determined to make sure they don’t make it out alive.
With Mark Strong as the ominous Slater and Mekhi Phifer adding some extra edge as Lynch, this film keeps you on the edge of your seat. If you’ve already seen it, you’ll know just how thrilling it gets. And for those who haven’t, you’re in luck – The Silent Hour is now available to stream online.

Several storylines and conflicts are important to remember before Chicago Med returns for the second half of season 10. The youngest One Chicago show will be participating in a crossover on January 29, but first it will have two standalone episodes that will help tie up existing storylines and introduce new ones. Like most Dick Wolf Entertainment shows, the medical drama ended with several exciting cliffhangers that it is expected to address when it returns.
Chicago Med's fall finale was designed to keep people talking, as two major characters' fates were left up in the air, with one of them possibly near death. Audiences speculated about whether Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) would live after being attacked or if Chicago Med's Archer was leaving the show. Archer is one of Steven Weber's best roles, and it will leave a large hole in the Chicago Med season 10 cast if he leaves,...

Police procedurals have been on television for decades and delight fans with dramatic storylines. Many police shows take on modern-day social issues, which helps make them more realistic for viewers who are watching the same topics on the news. Even police shows of the past used hot-button topics to propel their storylines, even though the issues were different.
Police procedurals often break fans' hearts with characters being killed off or leaving the shows in a fashion that makes fans want to stop watching the show but can't because they are invested in the characters. Much to the delight of fans, the best police shows often run for multiple seasons before they are pulled from the air.

Jennifer Love Hewitt has closed a deal to reprise her role as Julie James in the upcoming “I Know What You Did Last Summer” movie at Sony, directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson.

Kaytin Robinson is directing the sequel, from a script she co-wrote with Sam Lansky based off a draft by Leah McKendrick. Neal Moritz is producing.

There’s a new sequel to the 1997 slasher I Know What You Did Last Summer (watch it Here) and its 1998 follow-up I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (watch that one Here) coming our way from director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge) – and the project’s official X account has just unveiled a behind-the-scenes image to announce that production is underway!
The image shows a clapperboard for the filming of scene 50B, which involves a computer monitor that looks like it’s left over from the ’90s and a hook that has a slightly different design than the hooks we saw in the previous movies:

Dr. Archer’s Chicago Med resignation cliffhanger is worrying a lot of people.
It’s likely he won’t actually leave the medical drama, but still. He submitted that letter despite promising Hannah he’d reconsider.
The good news is that this is not the first medical drama with this storyline. Years ago, ER had a similar story with Gregory Pratt (Mekhi Phifer), so is it possible to look at it for clues as to what happens next?
(NBC/George Burns, Jr) How The ER Story Is Similar to Dr. Archer’s Chicago Med Resignation Cliffhanger
On ER Season 14 Episode 11, Pratt had a similar experience to Archer. In Pratt’s case, he had been passed over for the ER Chief position, which he felt he deserved, in favor of Skye Wexler.
Skye was a young female doctor who had recently arrived, and Pratt felt disrespected. Thus, he considered submitting his letter of resignation.

More sad news for long-time Days of Our Lives fans.

The Irrational Season 2 Episode 6 wasn’t your usual murder mystery, and that’s okay.
Instead of trying to find out who killed the victim of the week, Alec worked with a data expert to try to stop a train disaster.

It seems Accused just delivered a triumph for domestic violence survivors, even if it was more fantasy than reality.
Keeping up with the theme of up and down installments to Accused Season 2 Episode 6 was a reasonably solid installment compared to its predecessor, Accused Season 2 Episode 5.
There was a focus on mutual trauma and a shared sisterhood between two unlikely individuals.

You can never go wrong with Cobie Smulders, and her portrayal of Val felt tailor-made for an actress who is adept at portraying wonderfully complex, flawed, and occasional hot mess characters.
In this case, Val wasn’t so much a “hot mess” as she was a domestic abuse survivor and single mother who was trying to get by while taking care of her son and ensuring that he would never end up like his father.

Mekhi Phifer is coming to Law & Order!
While there’s no word yet on who he will play, TV Line reports that this is doubly exciting news because he will interact with several other ER alums, including Maura Tierney, who plays Jessica Brady, the new head of the homicide department.
While there is a definite connection between ER and Dick Wolf Entertainment, this is not an ER reunion, and Phifer’s guest role on Law & Order is good news for far more important reasons.

Kleenex must be making a fortune off of NCIS: Origins. I don’t know how the writers do it, but every episode is more intense than the last. Pretty soon, viewers will be too dehydrated to watch the show.
Between the return to Gibbs’s trauma over losing his wife, watching Franks be the entire heart of the Nis, and a truly heartbreaking case on top of that, I’d say “One Flew Over” was a borderline overdose of emotion.
That said, NCIS: Origins managed a few quirky moments that certainly earned some laughs. For example, I agree with Lori Petty’s Dr. Lenora Friedman, who said that Lala and Randy would have cute kids.

Law & Order Season 24 debuted its fall finale on Thursday, November 21, and will return early next year, joining a couple of other NBC shows set to kick off the new year in style. With the shows return comes a new cast member, an ER alum, who will guest-star in an upcoming Season 24 episode. TVLine reports that Mekhi Phifer, who portrayed Dr. Greg Pratt on NBC's long-running medical drama ER for over half a decade, will appear in Law & Order next year. This means he will work on the same set as fellow ER alum Maura Tierney, who now plays Lt. Jessica Brady in the police procedural.
