‘The Residence’ Star Uzo Aduba Receives Comedy Actress Emmy Nomination After Series Cancellation
Image
Uzo Aduba picked up a best comedy actress Emmy nomination for The Residence after the Netflix murder mystery was canceled after one season.

Aduba starred as eccentric detective Cordelia Cupp, who was enlisted to help solve the murder of White House chief usher A.B. Wynter (Giancarlo Esposito) during a White House state dinner. Aduba as Cupp was billed as the “greatest detective in the world.”

Had The Residence gone to a second season, the plan was for the whodunnit to become an anthology series with Cupp taking on a new case each season. Aduba won an earlier Emmy in 2014 for outstanding guest actress in a comedy for her role as Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren on Orange Is the New Black, and a year later took the Emmy for outstanding actress in a drama for the same role.

Then in 2020, Aduba was awarded the win for best actress in a...

Perfect Strangers reunion: Bronson Pinchot & Mark Linn-Baker reprise Balki & Larry
Image
Standing tall on the wings of my dream / Rise and fall on the wings of my dream. Fans of sitcom Perfect Strangers had their own dream come true, as stars Mark Linn-Baker and Bronson Pinchot reunited, even directly paying homage to their characters, Larry Appleton and Balki Bartokomous.

Pinchot took to social media to share a video of himself and Baker. As he tells his former Perfect Strangers co-star, “People were saying in the comments that they wanted us to be the characters. Would you like to do it on three?” After some hesitation, Pinchot removes Baker’s glasses and the two go into a bit of a routine on the way out of their hotel, with Baker playing the perfect straight man to Pinchot’s quirky foreigner. Accompanying the video is the caption, “We finally decided to just haul off and get in character… so here we are as...

Why Netflix Canceled The Residence After One Season
Image
Netflix's "The Residence" differentiates itself from other political shows by focusing its murder mystery on the lower rungs of the White House staff. Though the President of the United States (Paul Fitzgerald) and other major players very much appear on the show, its investigation centers around the White House's Chief Usher Wynter (Giancarlo Esposito). Similarly, Uzo Aduba's Detective Cordelia Cupp generally deals with folks like FBI Special Agent Edwin Park (Randall Park), Wynter's assistant Jasmine Haney (Susan Kelechi Watson), White House Executive Pastry Chef Didier Gotthard (Bronson Pinchot), and Executive Chef Marvella (Mary Wiseman).

Along with a generous splash of comedy and Cupp's eccentric fixation on birds, this approach makes "The Residence" unique among the many shows Netflix has to offer ... or perhaps made is the more accurate tense. Per information obtained by Deadline, "The Residence" has been canceled despite the murder mystery's chart-busting showing and critical appreciation.

‘The Residence’ Canceled at Netflix After 1 Season But the Story Was Just Getting Started
Image
The lights are out and doors have closed on The Residence, as Netflix has canceled the White House-set murder mystery after just one season. Starring Uzo Aduba as Cordelia Cupp, the “greatest detective in the world,” Shonda Rhimes‘ whodunnit joins freshman medical drama Pulse on the chopping block of canceled shows. Also starring Randall Park, Giancarlo Esposito, Bronson Pinchot, Susan Kelechi Watson, Jason Lee, Edwina Findley, Mary Wiseman, and Jane Curtin, news of the cancellation broke on July 2. Deadline first reported the news. The Shondaland-produced mystery followed detective Cordelia Cupp (Aduba) as she investigated a murder during a state dinner. Across eight episodes, she questioned staff and guests to uncover hidden motives while exposing personal dramas inside the presidential residence. But what could have been had the show continued? If the series had gone forward, the show would have become an anthology with Cupp at the center, taking on a new case each season.

‘The Residence’ and ‘Pulse’ Canceled at Netflix
Image
Netflix has canceled a pair of first-year series, The Residence and Pulse.

The two shows both premiered in the spring and had four-week runs in Netflix’s internal, worldwide top 10 rankings, with The Residence lasting a bit longer than than in Nielsen’s U.S. streaming charts. As usual, Netflix does cost-benefit analysis in making renewal or cancellation decisions.

The Residence is a White House-set murder mystery starring Uzo Aduba as Cordelia Cupp, the “greatest detective in the world.” The series hails from Shonda Rhimes’ Shondaland and creator/showrunner Paul William Davies (Scandal). Had the series gone forward, the plan was for it to become an anthology with Cupp taking on a new case each season.

The cast for the first (and now only) season also features Randall Park, Giancarlo Esposito, Susan Kelechi Watson, Edwina Findley, Bronson Pinchot, Mary Wiseman, Julieth Restrepo, Al Mitchell, Mel Rodriguez, Ken Marino, Jason Lee and Jane Curtin,...

‘Pulse,’ ‘The Residence’ Canceled at Netflix After One Season Each
Image
Freshman Netflix shows “Pulse” and “The Residence” have both been canceled, Variety has learned. Both series aired just one season at the streamer.

“Pulse” premiered on April 3 and debuted with 6.5 million views on the Netflix Top 10, followed by 8.5 million, 3.2 million and 2 million views in the weeks after that. The series received a ratings of 48% on Rotten Tomatoes, with Variety’s review noting “a poorly formatted narrative, an appalling depiction of sexual harassment and a few insufferable characters [that] don’t exactly make for a pleasurable watch.”

The series also suffered due to the proximity of its premiere to the finale of “The Pitt” at Max, with the latter medical drama scoring much higher with critics and audiences alike.

“Pulse” starred Willa Fitzgerald as Dr. Danny Simms, a third-year resident at a Level 1 trauma center Miami, who is unexpectedly promoted after beloved chief resident Xander Phillips (Colin Woodell) is suspended. Per the official logline,...

A Stephen King Miniseries Was A Production Nightmare Thanks To One Key Location
Image
The premise of Stephen King's 1990 novella "The Langoliers" is very strange indeed. It involves a group of nine airline passengers who wake up during a red-eye, only to find that everyone else has vanished. They land safely at an airport in Bangor, Maine (natch), and find that there, too, everyone has vanished. The world seems weirdly muted to them, lifeless. No machines work. The passengers come to the conclusion that their plane flew through a time portal, which put them out-of-synch with regular time. They hear an eerie sound on the horizon, and one of the passengers suggest the sound is coming from the Langoliers, a fictional monster that his abusive father used to tell him about. The Langoliers are coming to get them. They eat naughty boys.

It turns out that Langoliers are real (!), and it's their job to eat the world after the present has passed. Humans...

‘Clueless’ turns 30: Jeremy Renner’s audition, Alicia Silverstone’s life-changing fax, and other surprising stories from iconic comedy
Image
Could anyone really forget about Clueless, even three decades after its debut? As if!

Alicia Silverstone and writer-director Amy Heckerling joined costars and crew at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures screening of Clueless on Saturday, marking the 30th anniversary of the iconic film’s July 1995 release — but it was Silverstone’s costars Breckin Meyer and Elisa Donovan who shared the biggest bombshells of the night.

Meyer, who portrayed laid-back skateboarder Travis Birkenstock, was eager to work with Heckerling, having been a fan of her earlier films such as Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Johnny Dangerously, and Look Who’s Talking. He also recalled some of the other actors who auditioned for the role.

“All the other guys I knew — Seth Green, Jeremy Renner, and all these cats — were auditioning for it,” Meyer said.

Donovan, who played Amber, the high school rival to Silverstone’s heroine Cher Horowitz, recalled one of...

4 best Netflix shows you might have missed in March 2025
Image
March is winding down, and Netflix has rolled out all of its new shows this month. After watching all of the new Netflix shows released this month, I shared a list of four shows that fans need to watch.

Netflix has even more good shows coming in April, so now, it's time to make sure you don't fall too far behind on all the great Netflix shows coming this spring.

Let's get list started with the show everyone's talking about, Adolescence!

Adolescence

There's no doubt Adolescence is the best new Netflix show of March! It's probably the best Netflix show of the year so far, and I don't think it's all that close, either. The series stars Owen Cooper as Jamie Miller, a teenager accused of brutally murdering his classmate, Katie. While the series isn't based on one real case, it's obviously influenced by several cases of violence against women and girls.

‘The Residence’ Team on Casting Kylie Minogue, Honoring the Late Andre Braugher and How ‘Knives Out’ Resuscitated the Whodunit Genre
Image
The new Shondaland murder mystery series “The Residence” shares some DNA with another Netflix whodunit: Rian Johnson’s “Knives Out” film.

“It resuscitated the genre,” showrunner Paul William Davies told Variety at “The Residence” premiere in Los Angeles on Wednesday, revealing that Johnson’s film was a “hugely important” guidepost for his show in the way that it drew inspiration from 1970s whodunits.

“He played around with the history,” Davies explained. “That really opened the door for a lot of us to be like, ‘Oh, yeah, we can do that again.'”

“The Residence,” which is now streaming on Netflix, stars Uzo Aduba as the wildly eccentric detective (and legendary birder) Cordelia Cupp, who is tasked with solving a murder that takes place during a White House state dinner. In creating the screwball comedy — which features a sprawling cast that includes Susan Kelechi Watson, Randall Park and Ken Marino — Davies...

‘The Residence’ reviews: Critics hail Uzo Aduba’s ‘magnetic presence,’ but call the whodunit ‘overstuffed’
Image
Move over, Benoit Blanc. Netflix has a new detective in town. Uzo Aduba stars as Cordelia Cupp on The Residence, the streamer's new whodunit, all eight episodes of which dropped on Thursday. But is this murder mystery a killer one?

As of Thursday afternoon, The Residence has a generally favorable score of 66 on Metacritic based on 20 reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, it's 81 percent fresh based on 16 reviews.

"Although there is an ensemble vibe, it remains Aduba's show, and rightfully so. She is a magnetic presence and The Residence takes full advantage of that," writes The Guardian's Lucy Mangan. "This is not television that is going to change the world, but it is going to give you eight hours of fantastic escape. Enjoy."

"'Fun' is absolutely the watchword of this comic thriller," says Rolling Stone's Alan Sepinwall.

Created by Scandal writer Paul William Davies and produced by Shondaland, The Residence follows Cordelia,...

The Residence episode 3 recap: Knives out over candy kangaroos
Image
This post contains spoilers from The Residence episode 3 from this point forward.

Jumping off from the revelation at the end of episode 2 that Didier was in the game room at the time of A.B.'s death and took a knife from the scene, The Residence episode 3 opens with the pastry chef cleaning blood off his knife. He places a bloody rag in a box and takes it to the incinerator. Sheila (Edwina Findley) the butler spots him and tries to tell him he has something on his back, as do others.

In a flashback to the Christmas season, which was 10 months earlier, Didier presents his latest gingerbread replica of the White House to A.B. He even created a mini A.B. out of gingerbread. The gingerbread White House is typically displayed upstairs in the dining room, but Lilly and her energy medium St. Pierre (Taran Killam) convinced the...

‘The Residence’ Review: Uzo Aduba Leads a Sharp Ensemble in Netflix’s Excellent Whodunnit
Image
Some things are universally true, like Newton’s Universal Law of Gravitation or the fact that water is wet. Also true: TV viewers love a murder mystery.

There’s a reason, after all, that there are so many of them on TV at any given time, from long-running procedurals like “Law & Order” to soapy dramas like “Pretty Little Liars” to dark and prestigious limited series like “True Detective.” TV viewers even like ‘em funny, like the recent “Matlock” reboot, “Only Murders In The Building” or Kaitlin Olson’s hit “High Potential.”

You have to think that’s why Netflix and Shondaland teamed up once again to make “The Residence,” its new 8-episode whodunnit set (of all places) in the White House. With a bang-up ensemble cast that includes everyone from Randall Park to Bronson Pinchot to Kylie Minogue, and a series of twists and turns that practically requires a binge-watch,...

The Residence episode 2 recap: A sex scandal and the baker's secret
Image
This post contains spoilers from The Residence episode 2 from this point forward.

After Cordelia's discovery at the end of episode 1 that Australian Foreign Minister David Rylance (Brett Tucker) was wearing A.B.'s shirt and could have something to do with A.B.'s murder, The Residence episode 2 offers some context. White House chef Marvella (Mare Wiseman) got into an argument with A.B. over Rylance being in the kitchen and not being able to use flames for her wagyu dinner. Pastry chef Didier Gotthard (Bronson Pinchot) also took fault with A.B.'s no-flames proclamation.

But it's Marvella who screams and threatens to kill A.B. if he gets in her way again. Didier holds a glass over A.B.'s head like he's going to smash him with it, but he retracts. Clearly, A.B. had some enemies in the White House kitchen! As he tells Cordelia,...

Netflix's The Residence Differentiates Itself From Other Political Shows In One Major Way
Image
From "The West Wing" to "The Crown," some of the best TV shows out there take place in the world of politics. That said, they tend to revolve around politicians, special agents, and the professionals who deal with the more exciting jobs, often overlooking the day-to-day employees who make their meals, book their parties, and ensure everything runs smoothly. That's not the case with Netflix's "The Residence," however, which documents the White House's overlooked staff members within the framework of a good, old-fashioned murder mystery in the vein of "Clue," "Knives Out," and Agatha Christie's best works.

Created by Paul William Davies, "The Residence" centers around an investigation to find out who killed Giancarlo Esposito's White House chief usher A.B. Wynter (a role that was originally intended for the late Andre Braugher) during an Australian state dinner. He wasn't the most popular guy among his colleagues either,...

The Residence Review: Netflix & Shonda Rhimes Deliver a Can't Miss Mystery
Image
The Residence is the best murder mystery on Netflix since Knives Out. The White House whodunnit from Bridgerton and Grey's Anatomy executive producer Shonda Rhimes hits the ground running and rarely lets up. Created by Paul William Davies and starring Uzo Uduba as consulting detective Cordelia Cupp, The Residence features an eclectic mix of eccentric characters as it reinvigorates the tried and true murder mystery formula.

The Netflix original series -- inspired by Kate Andersen Brower's book The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House -- plays with murder mystery tropes and then catches the audience unaware. There are plenty of suspects, red herrings and hidden agends to keep audiences guessing. Between the twists and turns, and the strength of a star-studded cast, eight episodes almost doesn't feel like enough for this exciting show.

Late in the new Netflix limited series The Residence, a character complains, “People like a murder mystery! They think they’re fun!” After a beat, though, he can’t help but admit, “And it is fun.”

‘The Residence’ Review: Uzo Aduba Solves a Murder at 1600 in a Netflix Mystery That Amuses and Exhausts in Equal Measure
Image
When Jennifer Euston was casting Orange Is the New Black, it stands to reason that she was selecting interesting performers first and, given the show’s evocative opening credits, interesting faces second. But somewhere on the opening page of criteria, there must have been a listing that read: “Must also be capable of fronting a Columbo-esque mystery procedural.”

In the case of Kate Mulgrew, she’d already starred in the iconic spinoff series, Mrs. Columbo.

Natasha Lyonne is weeks away from the return of her Emmy-nominated turn as human lie detector Charlie Cale in Peacock’s Poker Face.

New to the murder-solving fray is Uzo Aduba, exceptionally eccentric in Netflix’s new Shondaland-produced The Residence. The show is the latest entry in both the burgeoning Orange Is the New Forensic Investigation genre and the even more burgeoning The World’s Greatest Detective Is a Weirdo genre.

The Residence is an entertainingly chaotic goof,...

Rian Johnson delighted fans with his 2019 murder mystery movie Knives Out, the whodunit story centered on the death of a bestselling author. The writer and director has become a pro in the murder mystery genre with the follow-up sequel film, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, along with the Peacock murder mystery series Poker Face.

If you loved every aspect of Knives Out, which earned Johnson an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay, the new Netflix murder mystery series The Residence, is a must-watch for numerous reasons.

The Residence Has a Gender-Swapped Benoit Blanc

The reason to watch The Residence for those who love Knives Out is not just because both shows are murder mysteries. A key character in Knives Out who links the franchise together is Benoit Blanc. Netflix's 'The Residence' Pays Tribute to Andre Braugher
Image
Netflix's upcoming series The Residence will pay tribute to the late actor Andre Braugher, with a title card in his memory at the end of the show's eight-episode season. Braugher was set to star in the show as White House Chief Usher A.B. Wynter, in a key role that would have no doubt added to his other memorable TV turns, including playing Captain Raymond Holt on Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Detective Frank Pembleton on Homicide: Life on the Street. He joined the cast of the Shondaland series in February 2023 but didn't complete production as he died in December 2023 of lung cancer.

Paul William Davies, who created The Residence for Netflix, told Deadline that an "In Memory" title card will appear at the end of the series, which is slated to premiere on Mar. 20, to honor Braugher, who had filmed several episodes before he passed away. Davies explained that the...

‘The Residence’ To Submit As Comedy For Emmys, Joining Strong Netflix Contingent; Creator & Stars Tease Potential Second Season Of Murder Mystery
Image
Exclusive: Netflix’s The Residence, which was originally announced as a drama and feels like a limited series with its season-long murder mystery format, will be submitted as a comedy for awards consideration, starting with the upcoming Emmys.

The move is not entirely surprising as the Shondaland-produced whodunit, starring Uzo Aduba and Randall Park, has a strong comedic bent in the vein of Hulu’s Only Murders In the Building. Actually, in what is likely a first, we have three murder mysteries among the strong Emmy series contenders in the comedy categories this year, returning nominees Only Murders In the Building and Peacock’s anthology Poker Face, joined by The Residence. All three have a female single lead or co-lead.

Of the three, only Only Murders is in the traditional half-hour-ish format, while Poker Face and The Residence are in the 46-60 minute episode range commonly associated with drama series,...

The Weird Late-90s Gilligan's Island Reunion That Never Aired In The U.S.
Image
In the United States, the last time any of the extant cast members of "Gilligan's Island" were united on screen, specifically to reprise their characters from the show, was for a 1992 episode of "Baywatch." The episode, titled "Now Sit Right Back and You'll Hear a Tale," saw some of the Baywatch lifeguards finding a small island off the coast of California where Gilligan (Bob Denver) and Mary Ann (Dawn Wells) had been stranded for a few years. They explained that they left their original island in a daring escape, only to become equally stranded on another island. Sadly, by the end of "Now Sit Right Back," it was revealed that Gilligan and Mary Ann weren't real, and that the events of the episode were all a dream.

By 1992, Alan Hale, Jr., Jim Backus, and Natalie Schafer had already passed away, and it seems that Russell Johnson and Tina Louise didn't want to,...

Family Matters Was A Spin-Off Of A Classic ABC Sitcom
Image
If you're a Millennial (especially of the elder variety), it's safe to say that you have some memory of "Family Matters" buried deep down in your psyche. Or perhaps it's not that deep down, and that's okay too. The 1990s-era sitcom was one of the biggest parts of ABC's famous "Tgif" lineup for most of the decade. Like shows such as "Full House" and "Step by Step," "Family Matters" was a lighthearted, low-stakes family sitcom about a big, rowdy family and the misadventures they got into. "Family Matters" was specifically set in Chicago and focused on the Winslow family along with their obnoxious neighbor Steve Urkel. Of course, Urkel very quickly became the biggest part of the show, vastly outshining the Winslow kids and often being paired with harried patriarch Carl.

In a way, it's kind of funny to think that "Family Matters" only became a big hit thanks in...

Image
Un asesinato en la mismísima Casa Blanca. © Netflix

“Did anything unusual happen?” Full trailer unvieled for Netflix series ‘The Residence’
Bronson Pinchot, Giancarlo Esposito, Jason Lee, Ken Marino, Mel Rodriguez, Randall Park, Susan Kelechi Watson, Julieth Restrepo, Uzo Aduba, Molly Griggs, and Mary Wiseman in The Residence (2025)
Netflix has debuted the full official trailer for the screwball comedy whodunnit series ‘The Residence.’

The movie is a screwball whodunnit set in the upstairs, downstairs, and backstairs of the White House, among the eclectic staff of the world’s most famous mansion.

Uzo Aduba stars as Cordelia Cupp, a consulting detective for the Metropolitan Police Department. Known for her wry humour, relentless pursuit of truth, and sharp eye for human behaviour, Cupp is the most sought-after detective in the world—and an avid birder to boot.

Joining her is Randall Park as Special Agent Edwin Park of the FBI, who is tasked with partnering with Cupp during a high-stakes State Dinner. While Park harbours scepticism about Cupp’s unconventional methods, their dynamic promises to be as intriguing as the mystery they seek to unravel.

Created by Paul William Davies, the cast also includes Giancarlo Esposito (A.B. Wynter), Edwina Findley...

Uzo Aduba in White House Whodunit Series 'The Residence' Full Trailer
Image
"We are the House. All these other people are not. It's us... versus them." Netflix has revealed a full official trailer for The Residence, a whodunit comedy murder mystery mini-series set at the White House. So who did it? Will she solve the crime? 132 rooms. 157 suspects. 1 dead body. Uzo Aduba stars in The Residence, Shondaland's new, unpredictable whodunnit set right inside The White House. This still seems like Netflix's comedic response to Hulu's Paradise series, also about the President being killed featuring Sterling K. Brown getting wrapped up in conspiracies trying to find out why. But this time it's more of a Knives Out-esque concept than a conspiracy thriller. The ensemble cast includes Aduba as Cordelia Cupp, Giancarlo Esposito, Edwina Findley, Molly Griggs, Jason Lee, Ken Marino, Al Mitchell, Bronson Pinchot, Julieth Restrepo, Mel Rodriguez, Randall Park, Dan Perrault, Susan Kelechi Watson, Isiah Whitlock Jr., & Mary Wiseman. This looks hilarious!

'The Residence' Trailer Reveals Netflix Mystery Series Starring Uzo Aduba
Image
What could be more enticing than a game of Clue set in the elusive White House? The premise for the latest murder mystery from Netflix is simple: 132 rooms, 157 suspects, one dead body, and one eccentric detective. From producer Shonda Rhimes comes an eight-episode comedic murder mystery series starring Orange is the New Black's Uzo Aduba along with Marvel favorites Randall Park and Giancarlo Esposito. In preparation for the March 20 release, Netflix has released the trailer for The Residence, and it looks like a good old-fashioned whodunnit.

Home of the modern murder mystery Knives Out, which arguably brought the genre back to the mainstream, Netflix is expanding its mystery portfolio with the upcoming miniseries based on the novel The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House by Kate Andersen Brower. The comedic mystery thriller is produced by TV dynamo Rhimes, who has made more hit shows than one person can count.

‘The Residence’ Trailer: Uzo Aduba and Randall Park Investigate a Government Murder in Crime Comedy
Image
A White House-set whodunnit from Shonda Rhimes? We’re seated.

The latest Netflix series from mega-producer Rhimes is a mix of “Only Murders in the Building” meets “Knives Out,” with Rhimes and executive producing partner Betsy Beers reuniting with “Scandal” alum Paul William Davies to go back to D.C.

The screwball crime comedy stars Uzo Aduba as Metropolitan Police Department consulting detective Cordelia Cupp, who is tasked with solving a murder alongside FBI Special Agent Edwin Park (Randall Park). The duo are billed as a modern-day Sherlock and Watson and ”Odd Couple” team, as Aduba’s Cupp is the most sought-after detective in the world but Park remains skeptical about her unconventional methods.

As the character description teases for Aduba’s role, Cupp is “an astute observer of human behavior, with a distinctive and – to some, unsettling – conversational style. As she dives deeper into the evening’s events and key suspects,...

Shonda Rhimes and Uzo Aduba’s ‘The Residence’ Drops First Clues in Murder Mystery Trailer
Image
This spring, Shonda Rhimes is returning to the White House thanks to Netflix’s “The Residence.” And in its first trailer, the Uzo Aduba murder mystery created by Paul William Davies is dropping its first few clues ahead of its March 20 premiere.

When White House Chief Usher A.B. Wynter (Giancarlo Esposito) is found dead, the most powerful institution in America brings in Cordelia Cupp (Aduba), a wildly eccentric detective to solve the case. She will score through 132 rooms and 157 suspects all in the hopes of discovering what actually happened … but the further she dives into this mystery, the more convoluted it becomes.

In the first trailer, it’s revealed on the night of his death, A.B. said, “I am going to be dead by the end of the night.”

“I mean, it’s just something people say,” a panicked Ken Marino says. “I’ve never said that,” Aduba’s Cordelia shoots back,...

ABC’s Tgif Creator Clarifies Acronym Didn’t Stand For “Thank God It’s Friday”
Image
ABC’s Tgif programming block had viewers hoping for Friday nights to watch their favorite sitcom.

Over the years, many people believed the acronym stood for “Thank God It’s Friday.” However, in a new interview, Jim Janicek, who help create the programming block, clarified that the letters stood for “Thank Goodness It’s Funny.”

“We were talking about things like the ‘Friday Fun Club,'” Janicek said on Pod Meets World about the names they considered before Tgif. “There’s a whole list somewhere I probably could dig up, but I remember that one. You know, ‘It’s Friday Night.’ Lots of little short-isms.”

Janicek recalled that the network’s executives were initially worried that using Tgif would cause problems with a chain of restaurants.

“We did our first animation, which kinda was more childlike, with a little mouse called Friday the Mouse. We were animating that with a guy...

Image
As the industry grapples with immense fracture, loss and uncertainty, Uzo Aduba had nothing but words of hope and promise when she took the stage to receive The Hollywood Reporter’s Trailblazer Award on Feb. 6 at SCADTVfest.

“We are told that our differences divide us, creating a separation based on idealistic standards,” Aduba said to a packed house of students and local fans inside the 600-plus seat SCADshow Theater in Atlanta. “But I’m here to tell you our differences are not weaknesses but strengths. The richness of our stories, the diversity of our characters, the power of our art — all of it comes from embracing what makes us unique. … You bring your superpower, value, and uniqueness to the table. Don’t let anyone tell you differently. Anything is possible, and the journey is never over. There is no limit or expiration date for dreams.”
