Henry Cavill’s name has been circulating after being replaced as Superman by David Corenswet, but nearly 20 years ago, he starred in a historical soap opera that’s returned to streaming charts. Cavill stars alongside Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Vikings) and Anthony Brophy (The Devil’s Own) in The Tudors, the costume drama following the scandalous life of a young king and his obsession with producing a male heir. All four seasons of the show are streaming on both Prime Video and Paramount+ in America, but globally, the series is trending in countries such as the Netherlands and Taiwan. The Tudors earned solid scores of 69% from critics and 84% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, with Season 3 being well-regarded as the strongest of the bunch, earning a nearly flawless 90% on the Tomatometer.

Michael Hirst is the sole writer and creator of The Tudors, but he recruited directors like Ciaran Donnelly, Jeremy Podeswa, and Dearbhla Walsh...

23 Years Later, Keira Knightley’s Beloved Breakout Movie Is Finally Getting a Sequel
Image
Bend It Like Beckham was one of the defining British films of the early '00s. It told the story of a young Indian girl, Jess (Parminder Nagra) who seeks to find a way to play soccer despite the disapproval of her conservative parents. Along the way she befriends another soccer player, Jules (Keira Knightley) and falls in love with a young coach (Jonathan Rhys Meyers). Now, decades later, the movie is getting a sequel.

Director Gurinder Chadha confirmed to Deadline yesterday that she was working on a sequel. The announcement couldn't have come at a better time, as women's soccer in Britain is having a moment right now - the whole nation celebrated when the Lionesses achieved glory at the Euros this week.

“I’m excited to revisit the original characters and revive the enduring story and build on the legacy we helped to create for the women’s game,...

Keira Knightly Sleeper Hit Is Getting A Sequel 23 Years Later - But The $6.3B Grossing Actor Hasn't Signed On
Image
A sequel is officially in the works for Bend It Like Beckham, the British cult sports hit starring Parminder Nagra and Keira Knightley. The original movie, which debuted in the UK in 2002 and in the US in 2003, followed Nagra's Jess and Knightley's Jules as they played for a small amateur women's team in London and pursued their dream of a soccer career in the States.

Now, 23 years later, director and writer Gurinder Chadha has confirmed to Deadline that she's working on a sequel. The BAFTA-nominated filmmaker has teamed up with the current head coach of the US women's national soccer team and her husband and co-writer, Paul Mayeda Berges, to develop the concept and script.

Chadha told Deadline that she'd finally come up with an idea for the sequel "last month," 23 years after the movie's original premiere.

“I didn’t want to do anything because I didn’t have a story.

Scarlett Johansson’s Best Movies of 2000s Sparked the ‘Male Gaze’ Concern She Addressed in Jurassic World Rebirth
Image
Scarlett Johansson says a lot of her roles, including the ones in her best movies of the 2000s, revolved around desirability or the ‘male gaze.’ During a recent interview with The Times of London, the Marvel actress shared that it is “a different time for young women” in Hollywood.

She shared that the “messaging is different,” with women becoming role models and taking on powerful positions. Johansson shared that she was increasingly getting opportunities to “play women who don’t have to just be one thing or another.”

In her latest role, she plays a covert operation expert, Zora Bennett, in Jurassic World Rebirth. It happens to be one of those opportunities that Johansson talked about. However, this wasn’t the case for the actress for the longest time.

When she was younger, she was offered roles where she was hypers*xualized or objectified. These roles included some of her best works,...

Image
If you think Zendaya’s Challengers is the hottest tennis drama, think again! Because, nearly 20 years ago, Scarlett Johansson came and conquered the genre alongside Jonathan Rhys Meyers. The duo had set the screen on fire in director Woody Allen’s steamy thriller Match Point (2005).

15 Best TV Shows Like Bridgerton
Image
The period piece romantic drama genre was completely revitalized by the Netflix original series "Bridgerton." Adapting Julia Quinn's novel series of the same name, "Bridgerton" mixes high society sophistication with steamy romance featuring its growing ensemble of memorable characters. And as fans watch Netflix's expansive universe of "Bridgerton" shows, there are plenty of similar historical dramas to help them tide over the wait. These range from shows accurately exploring British history to series taking advantage of the archetypal backdrop from more stylized stories, like "Bridgerton" itself.

Each of these shows is thematically similar to "Bridgerton," beyond the trappings of historical British aristocracy in their own way. Some capture the drama of living among the English bourgeois while others focus on the bodice-ripping love stories that make "Bridgerton" so enticing. Whether you're in it for the torrid affairs or the historical trappings, there is a period piece drama for everyone.

Jessica Jones Star's Action Movie Becomes Netflix Hit 2 Years Later Despite 0% Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
In 2023, the action thriller Mercy was pummeled by critics, getting slapped with a rare and unwanted Rotten Tomatoes score of 0%. However, the film is getting another chance with Netflix subscribers two years after its release.

Per FlixPatrol, Mercy is currently ranked at No. 7 on Netflix's Top 10 chart for feature films, globally. The film was not a big success upon its release in theaters on May 12, 2023. Its reception was especially harsh, given the 0% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and its audience score is only good by direct comparison, as it's also rather low at 17%. The movie was acknowledged at the 44th Golden Raspberry Awards (aka the Razzies), when Jon Voight "won" the award for Worst Actor.

Hollywood icon and Pulp Fiction star John Travolta joins forces with Mission: Impossible star Jonathan Rhys Meyers and the director and writer behind the Liam Neeson action movie hit Taken, Pierre Morel and Luc Besson, respectively, for the action thriller From Paris with Love, which is all set to land on free streaming. This tale of a CIA rookie who’s partnered with a gun-toting veteran spy may have been largely panned upon release, but is worth a second look when it streams for free in 2025.

Helmed by Pierre Morel, written by Adi Hasak, and based on a story by Luc Besson, From Paris with Love reached just 37% on Rotten Tomatoes, with audiences a little more enamored at 54%. “Though not without its charms -- chief among them John Travolta's endearingly over-the-top performance -- From Paris with Love is too muddled and disjointed to satisfy,” the critics’ consensus reads. What Happened To Jonathan Rhys Meyers?
Image
Although Jonathan Rhys Meyers was a promising rising star in the late 90s and early aughts, his screen appearance has diminished over the years, making it hard not to wonder what happened to him. Today, Meyers may only be associated with his recent recurring role in Vikings. However, long before Jonathan Rhys Meyers became Bishop Heahmund in the historical drama, he was known for starring in several popular films and series like The Tudors and Match Point. Despite building a strong portfolio for himself, Meyers somehow faced a downturn in his Hollywood career.

Some might even remember him for his earlier years in Hollywood, where he played a diverse set of roles in movies like Vanity Fair, August Rush, and Bend it Like Beckham. However, regardless of how audiences remember him, he seems to have gone relatively silent in recent years, with fewer mainstream movie and TV projects showing up in his acting resume.

Image
Stars: Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson, Louis Mandylor, Tofan Pirani, Melody Prapassorn, Chante Evans, Myles Clohessy, Gary Cairns, Peter Dobson, Elliot Allison | Written by Brandon Slagle | Directed by Louis Mandylor

Operation Blood Hunt is the film we wanted after Dog Soldiers showed us all that werewolves and soldiers could be a great combination. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much in the way of followup at the time, the promised sequel never happened and anyone who saw Werewolves of the Third Reich would probably rather forget it. So we’ve had to wait until now for Brandon Slagle to take the standard war movie plot of an odd assortment of fighters sent on a mission behind enemy lines and some werewolves to serve as the villains. And when it works, Operation Blood Hunt is a lot of fun, unfortunately, it doesn’t always work.

It’s 1945 and in a bar somewhere in London,...

The Fans Are Divided Over Who Should Replace Ralph Fiennes in the Upcoming ‘Harry Potter’ Series
Image
As far as Harry Potter characters are concerned, Lord Voldemort is undoubtedly one of the most important and popular ones in the franchise as a whole. Why? Well, despite the fact that he is the series’ main villain, Voldemort managed to present himself as a major and believable villain, which is what the fans always appreciate.

The actor was portrayed by several actors before it was revealed that the resurrected Voldemort would be portrayed by legendary actor Ralph Fiennes, who did an amazing job in the movies, and it was his interpretation that helped make the character more popular. Despite hating him, everyone wanted to see more of Fiennes’ Voldemort.

The movies are, of course, over, and we know that a television series focused on the books is being worked on, which means that we will soon get new actors and actresses in old roles.

Because of this, the fans are debating the recastings online,...

The Clean Up Crew Review: A Messy Crime Caper
Image
Jon Keeyes’ The Clean Up Crew introduces an unusual bunch of characters finding themselves in a sticky situation. The movie follows a crime scene cleaning crew as they arrive at their latest job only to discover a briefcase full of cash left behind at the scene. Unbeknownst to them, this briefcase belongs to a notorious crime boss who will stop at nothing to get it back.

With a plot that feels ripped from the headlines, The Clean Up Crew aims for the stylized crime caper flair of Guy Ritchie films. At the helm is director Jon Keeyes, no stranger to action films, though typically working with more modest budgets. He assembles an impressive cast including Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Melissa Leo, and Antonio Banderas to bring this story of crooks and colliding criminals to life.

Despite ambitious intentions and committed performances from the stars, fundamental flaws in the script and direction undermine the movie.

Fans Divided Over Controversial MCU X-Men Fan Casting Choices
Image
The MCU is gearing up to introduce the Mutants, something we’ve known since Disney acquired Fox. While you could argue that the Mutants have already made a few brief appearances, the X-Men themselves haven’t yet entered the MCU.

Although their full debut is still some time away, Marvel has promised a major introduction in the future.

Even though we don’t know all the details, it’s clear that Feige and Marvel are taking their time to get it right. The X-Men’s arrival in the MCU will be a major moment and will shape the franchise for years to come.

Given the importance of this debut, fans are understandably anxious about who Marvel will cast. With an already-established X-Men universe, comparisons between the old and new casts are inevitable.

Although we don’t have any official casting news yet, a Reddit user, Time-Classroom-2442, has shared their own...

Now, even if we are unaware of all the specifics, we are confident that Feige and Marvel want to do this correctly because the X-Men’s MCU debut will be significant and will influence the franchise for years to come.

With that in mind, it’s easy to see why fans are anxious about Marvel’s casting choices. The X-Men already have an established fictional universe, so comparisons with the MCU version are inevitable. While we still have no idea who will be cast, Reddit user Time-Classroom-2442 has...

‘The Clean Up Crew’ Review
Image
Stars: Melissa Leo, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Ekaterina Baker, Swen Temmel, Antonio Banderas, Matthew Tompkins | Written by Matthew Rogers | Directed by Jon Keeyes

If you were part of the clean-up crew taking care of a murder scene, and you found a suitcase full of cash, what would you do? If you have an Iq that’s at least in the double digits or have seen more than a couple of action films, you probably know taking it won’t end well.

But that doesn’t stop Siobhan, the owner of Good Life Cleaners and her crew, Alex, his girlfriend Megan and Chuck from doing just that when they find a few million in cash stashed in the chimney of the house they’re cleaning up.

That money belongs to Gabriel and was meant to pay off some crooked cops until somebody else’s attempt to steal it resulted in a pile...

The Clean Up Crew Review | Minor Chuckles in Befuddling Crime Comedy
Image
Over-the-top acting, strange edits, and a thin plot make The Clean Up Crew a ludicrous comedy wannabe. The usually wonderful Antonio Banderas channels Machiavelli in a cringeworthy performance as crime boss. The good cast seems to have fun, and there are a couple chuckles, but a weak script, confusing editing, and unoriginal action scenes make the film a forgettable mess.

Antonio Banderas spouts Machiavelli while his criminal empire crumbles in this scatterbrained action-comedy that never finds its footing. The Clean Up Crew tries your patience with a strained narrative of bumbling thieves, crooked cops, and a quartet of crime scene cleaners embroiled in a ludicrous robbery scheme. The film has a Guy Ritchie feel with chatty, goofball characters gunning for each other in a bloody barrage of split-screen edits and campy accompanying music. Everything is purposely overdone to a fault. Therein the humor supposedly lies, but The Clean Up Crew...

The Clean Up Crew – Review
Image
In the mood for a silly gross comedy? The Clean Up Crew might suit your fancy, since it’s got a cast of oddballs, some campy overacting, all building to a hefty body count. Gear yourself for something between The Gang That Couldn’T Shoot Straight and Hot Fuzz, with a dash of Johnny Dangerously. If not for quality, then for tenor.

For starters, Antonio Banderas plays a gang boss who is just plain nuts. He struts and frets his hour upon the stage, overreacting to everything and spouting excerpts from Machiavelli like a professor on crack. He looks and acts like the polar opposite of the suave romantic figure he usually portrays, whether in comedies or dramas. A couple of corrupt Feds are on his payroll covering up his substantial illegal enterprise in exchange for a big monthly cut of the profits. In cash, of course.

Two guys try...
