A few months ago, our good friend Chris Bumbray posted an article on our website about a banned shark movie coming to Blu-ray, albeit in a non-region A form. At first, I thought I knew exactly what he was talking about. I assumed it was the ever-popular Cruel Jaws which was already released by Severin Films and even had a Jaws 5 cover art for a limited time. Well, I was wrong. It was actually a movie I had never heard of. It was called The Last Shark or maybe it’s called Great White depending on which site you look it up on. Being the historian of the group here at JoBlo Horror Originals, I decided I needed to take on the burden of watching it. What could be so bad about a movie from an important producer, that made 18 million dollars in 1981, and that had Vic Morrow to appeal to American audiences?...

One major sequel to a classic comedy leads this list, but there’s plenty more to stream beyond the Sandler-verse.
Netflix’s long-running deal with Adam Sandler is finally starting to pay off in a big way. With the massive release of “Happy Gilmore 2,” the streamer has gone all-in on Sandler nostalgia, and I’m all here for it. The original “Happy Gilmore” would’ve landed on this list too, but it’s getting pulled on July 31st. Still, Sandler shows up more than once below, and he’s not the only reason to hit play. This list has a little bit of everything: horror, thrillers, action, and comedy — the kind of lineup that reminds you why Netflix is the biggest dog in the streaming world. So, here are the top seven movies streaming on Netflix right now.

After Star Wars came out in 1977 and became a global phenomenon, many people might’ve thought Harrison Ford was set for life. But that wasn’t quite how it went. While the movie was a massive hit, the fame didn’t instantly turn Ford or the rest of the cast into Hollywood royalty.
Instead, the film’s success was mostly credited to its groundbreaking effects and the overall magic of the Star Wars universe, not necessarily the actors. Ford had already appeared in strong films like American Graffiti and The Conversation, but his path to superstardom wasn’t as smooth as you might expect.
According to The Making of The Empire Strikes Back by J.W. Rinzler, Ford’s first big move after Star Wars was a war movie called Force 10 from Navarone, a sequel to the 1961 hit The Guns of Navarone. The original had legends like Gregory Peck and Anthony Quinn.

When Star Wars hit theaters in 1977, it changed Hollywood forever. You’d think Harrison Ford, who played Han Solo, would’ve instantly become one of the most in-demand actors in the world. But that didn’t happen right away.
Even though the movie was a huge hit, the cast didn’t come out of it as instant stars. Instead, the success was mostly credited to the groundbreaking effects and the overall magic of George Lucas’ universe.
Ford already had some solid work under his belt, like American Graffiti and The Conversation, but after Star Wars, he didn’t get flooded with offers like many expected.
Things eventually worked out for him with The Empire Strikes Back and Raiders of the Lost Ark coming back-to-back. But right after Star Wars, Ford found himself in a tight spot. He needed a job, and the only role he was offered was in a movie he now regrets deeply.

The summer is nearing its end. This means that horror fans are getting closer and closer to Jaws’ 50th anniversary theatrical re-release. The iconic Steven Spielberg film is coming back to the big screen this August. To chum the waters, there's been a whole line of killer anniversary merchandise to take a bite out of. Now, Neca has returned to shore with their latest Jaws figure.
Neca’s new addition to their Jaws collection is a 3D display piece recreating the iconic poster for the 1975 classic. This beast is housed in a clear window case with a backdrop that finishes the infamous scene of the poster.

Few films strike as much terror in a single image quite like Jaws. The Steven Spielberg-directed horror nightmare made sharks absolutely terrifying back in 1975. It's been 50 years since a self-absorbed mayor didn't close down the beach when he should have. If he did, we wouldn't have had one of the greatest blockbusters of all-time and a sea full of bloody merchandise. Now, Funko has returned with a new killer Jaws Funko Pop set.
An Amazon exclusive, this new Jaws Funko Pop is a part of their VHS cover line. It artfully recreates the iconic poster of Jaws, aka Bruce, from the depths of the ocean charging to eat an ill-fated swimmer. Both the shark and the girl are vinyl Pop figures, with the water being a nice 3D effect that makes the entire set stand out. The red Jaws font completes the piece in the background. Jurassic World Rebirth is finally here, and the fim's director has just confirmed a callback to a classic Steven Spielberg movie. While Spielberg directed the first two Jurassic Park movies, he has since handed the franchise off to other filmmakers, with director Gareth Edwards helming the most recent entry, 2025's Jurassic World Rebirth.
Speaking with Vanity Fair, Gareth Edwards discussed some of the Easter eggs that were hidden in Jurassic World Rebirth. As it turns out, the director's references went beyond the Jurassic Park franchise. According to Edwards, the film actually contains a hidden Easter egg that references Steven Spielberg's 1975 classic Jaws.
At one point in Jaws, Robert Shaw's Quint puts a pedal on his feet as he is trying to wind the shark in during the latter half of the film. Interestingly, a replica of this pedal can be seen early in Jurassic World Rebirth, with it being...

After concluding Pride month with discussions of Danny Boyle’s modern classic 28 Days Later (listen) and the Freddy-Krueger-for-kids villain in Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: The Movie (listen), we’re shifting gears into full-on summer blockbuster territory with a look at Steven Spielberg‘s juggernaut of a creature feature in Jaws (1975).
In case you’ve lived under a rock your entire life: Jaws tells the tale of a monstrous Great White Shark that has staked its claim over the beaches of Amity Island. In charge of stopping its rampage is police chief Martin Brody (Roy Scheider), against the wishes of the island’s capitalistic mayor (Murray Hamilton). When the shark slaughters one too many people, Brody teams up with marine biologist Matt Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) and crazed shark hunter Quint (Robert Shaw) to track it down and kill it for good.

The gang on "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" love riffing on popular culture, both onscreen as their characters and in the episodes themselves. From the bonkers Bruce Willis-inspired antics of the season 3 episode "The Gang Gets Held Hostage" to a way less classy take on the classic noir "The Postman Always Rings Twice" that involves a whole lot of diarrhea poisoning, elements of pop culture have been riffed on throughout the long-running series. There's one episode, however, that almost feels like a pop culture Easter egg hunt, and that's the glorious "The Gang Goes to a Water Park" from season 12.
"The Gang Goes to a Water Park" has it all — a great nod to Steven Spielberg's seminal feature film "Jaws," references to one of the most infamous horror novels of the 21st century, an extended riff on an oft-forgotten Nicolas Cage movie, cameos from some very famous TV showrunners,...

Hooper sits at the table on the bridge of the Orca. Next to him, a man with thick sideburns begins to sing: “Show me the way to go home…” Hooper joins in, slapping the table in rhythm and taking a swig from a cup of mystery booze. The boat rocks gently in the Atlantic tide as their voices echo across the open water.

Netflix, the great white shark of streaming, is wading into Discovery’s and Nat Geo’s waters.
This holiday weekend, National Geographic Channel’s 13th annual SharkFest debuts, beating Discovery Channel’s 37th Shark Week to the schedule. This summer, the blood in the water isn’t from chum, rather it’s from a whale of a new competitor: Netflix.
Netflix dominates pretty much all things TV, so why should shark content be any different? On June 30, Netflix premiered its documentary Shark Whisperer, which follows Ocean Ramsey in her unique (and controversial — and viral) approach to marine conservation: swimming freely with gigantic sharks for hours on end. Shark Whisperer, the latest underwater documentary film from James Reed, the Oscar-winning director of My Octopus Teacher, has treaded water among Netflix’s top 10 films each day since.

Steven Spielberg Ditched Jaws 2 (Photo Credit – Wikipedia)
Steven Spielberg changed cinema forever when Jaws hit theaters in 1975. It turned beach trips into second thoughts for millions and gave birth to what we now call the summer blockbuster. Now, with its 50th anniversary this year, people are once again diving into the film, not just the original but the sequels too.
Why Jaws 2 Was Made Without Steven Spielberg
Among the sequels, Jaws 2 stands out. It is not because it was great, but because it’s the least bad. It brought back Roy Scheider’s Chief Brody, another shark, and a new director, Jeannot Szwarc. However, the most famous name from the first film was missing as Steven Spielberg didn’t return, and there’s a lot more behind that than some simple refusal.
The iconic director became a force in Hollywood when Jaws exploded at the box office and took home Oscars.

You’re going to want to get out of the water for this one. We knew this summer would be a big one for fans of Steven Spielberg’s Jaws thanks to the iconic film celebrating its 50th anniversary, but one streamer is making the thriller bigger than the shark itself. According to What’s on Netflix, all four titles will be making their way to Netflix on July 15. This means that not only can you celebrate the milestone moment of one of cinema’s biggest features from the comfort of your own home, but you can do so by way of a bingeable watch party that allows you (and maybe even some friends) to see the story through from start to finish.
You’d essentially need to be living under a rock (no offense) if you don’t know the synopsis of at least the first Jaws. But, luckily,...

Photo Credit: National Geographic Everyone knows Jaws. It’s the iconic film that launched Steven Spielberg from a promising newcomer to a visionary director who created the biggest moneymaker of all time. But what many don’t realize is the immense psychological toll this groundbreaking film took on Spielberg, especially at the tender age of 26. A new National Geographic documentary, Jaws @ 50: The Definitive Inside Story, reveals just how rattled he truly was. As reported by Entertainment Weekly‘s Jordan Hoffman, Spielberg himself uses phrases like “I think I just lost it” when reflecting on the massive, costly, and notoriously difficult production. While it’s common knowledge that Jaws went way over budget and ran 100 days behind schedule (it even inspired a Broadway play!), seeing the now-grandfatherly Spielberg reflect on this torment so many decades later is one of the documentary’s most striking revelations. The problems seemed endless.

Jawsmade a generation of moviegoers afraid to swim in the water, but it even had an impact on some of the actors. As Jaws celebrates its 50th anniversary this summer, many people are looking back on the iconic movie that helped usher in the era of summer blockbusters.
While not the first shark attack movie ever made, the brilliant use of the shark’s point of view instilled a fear in the audience that something in the ocean was watching them without them even realizing it. However, it was the fake shark that was responsible for much of Jaws’ production troubles that made an impact on one young actor.

Steven Spielberg surely had no idea that one well-meaning remark about John Williams to George Lucas would've paved the way for one of the greatest soundtracks in cinematic history. But the world is a better place for it.
Spielberg and Williams' long-lived collaboration began in 1974, when the latter worked on The Sugarland Express. Before that, Williams had worked with directors like Frank Sinatra, Irwin Allen, and Don Siegel. In 2023, Spielberg told Deadline that Williams' work on Mark Rydell's The Reivers made him seek the music composer out for his theatrical feature debut.
A year later, the two worked together on Spielberg's classic horror thriller, Jaws, for which Williams won an Oscar. As the 1975 movie turned 50 this month, let's revisit how it led to Williams working with Lucas.

As we continue to celebrate the 50th anniversary of "Jaws," cinema enthusiasts everywhere can wax poetic about the film's impact as the godfather of the modern blockbuster. The 1975 big screen adaptation of Peter Benchley's novel of the same name not only captivated audiences and frightened them from visiting the beach that summer, but it also served as the ultimate calling card for the filmmaker who would be king: Steven Spielberg. After making his feature-length debut with his television film "Duel" and his theatrical debut with "The Sugarland Express," Spielberg ventured into uncharted waters with "Jaws," which was a notoriously difficult production for him.
"Jaws" was a cultural juggernaut, becoming the highest-grossing film ever at the time of its release (a record that Spielberg himself would break two more times with "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" and "Jurassic Park"). Adjusted for ticket price inflation, it is the 7th highest-grossing film in history,...

We all talk about the seismic impact Steven Spielberg's "Jaws" had in shaping the quintessential summer blockbuster, but even greater was the renewed interest it generated in the creature feature. Everyone wanted to cash in on the killer animal movie craze after "Jaws," with films like "Orca: The Killer Whale," "Grizzly" and "Alligator" arriving in its wake. The issue was that plenty of producers wanted to hop aboard the bandwagon and make their own hit, yet "Jaws" was itself the rare combination of B-movie thrills and top-tier filmmaking, and it remains the gold standard. With that said, however, there's still a considerable amount of craft on display in the aforementioned movies. Then there were filmmakers like Joe Dante, who had the right idea and didn't even attempt to recapture the same prestige, instead leaning in a much more humorous direction with his efforts on 1978's "Piranha."

This is a documentary that doesn't gloss over the difficult stuff, and Spielberg's experience absolutely counts as "difficult stuff."
Jaws wasn't an easy movie to make. It's a well established piece of Jaws lore now that the mechanical shark (named Bruce after Spielberg's lawyer) kept breaking down, causing endless difficulties. In addition to that, stars Richard Dreyfuss and Robert Shaw were constantly at loggerheads. Everyone was pressuring Spielberg, who was far from the big name he is now, to deliver. It all became too much for him.

Steven Spielberg‘s Jaws left an indelible mark on cinema upon release 50 years ago today, in 1975. It didn’t just instill a fear of going into the water, but it essentially birthed the summer blockbuster as we know it. Jaws also set the blueprint for shark horror that still holds strong today. All of this poses a very obvious question for any documentary broaching a well-trodden subject matter that’s been around for five decades: what’s left to explore?
Jaws at 50: The Definitive Inside Story, director Laurent Bouzerau’s documentary attached to the new Jaws 50th Anniversary Edition 4K Uhd/Blu-ray release, doesn’t attempt to condense 50 years of history into its feature runtime. Instead, Bouzerau examines Jaws’ impact in the decades since its release and its surprisingly humble origins.
While that means it’s not quite as definitive as its title suggests, it does make for a...

50 years ago today, cinema changed forever with the introduction of its first true blockbuster — Jaws. Directed by legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg, the classic thriller based on Peter Benchley's novel of the same name became the gold standard for what a big, buzzy summer film should be, with moments, quotes, and characters that are forever seared into film history, incredible practical effects that give it a bite that holds up to this day, and an iconic villain that taught viewers "Don't go in the water." Now, to celebrate the occasion, the film is swimming onto broadcast television for a special one-night-only screening featuring an introduction by the director himself. NBC will air the three-hour telecast of Universal's legendary shark-infested feature starting tonight at 8 p.m. Et.

50 years ago today, the world's "first summer blockbuster" was released, and the movie industry hasn't been the same since. Steven Spielberg's Jaws redefined what a film could be by making everyone afraid to go in the water, be it a small pond or a gigantic ocean. To this day, the movie still holds a special place in the hearts of fans, as is evident by the many people taking to social media to celebrate its golden jubilee.
"It cannot be understated just how perfect Jaws is," said @ScaredChris on X, adding that it's "the rare cultural phenomenon that's actually one of the finest movies ever made." Indeed, Jaws was definitely a phenomenon that drew lines around the block, and would go on to topple the box office record set by The Godfather just three years prior. As the social media account of All the Right Movies put it:
