Jack Black Made A Cameo Appearance In One Of The Worst-Rated Movies Of All Time
Image
Jason Bloom's 1996 comedy "Bio-Dome" was mocked even when it came out. It was a slacker flick starring the ultra-hot comedian Pauly Shore as Bud "Squirrel" Macintosh and a particularly loopy Stephen Baldwin as his best friend, Doyle "Stubs" Johnson. The two slackers have just been (wisely) dumped by their hippie, environmentally conscious girlfriends (played by Teresa Hill and Joey Lauren Adams) and have decided to while away their free time at a local mall. It turns out the "mall" they have spotted, though, is actually an experimental, self-contained bio-dome that is on the cusp of sealing in a team of scientists for an entire year. The bio-dome is meant to test potential long-term extraterrestrial living. So, because of the experiment, Squirrel and Stubs have to stay sealed in for a year.

Anyone who remembers "Bio-Dome" probably also recalls how awful it is. It wasn't a hit and it received pretty terrible notices.

A Disney Executive Really Wanted to Cast Steve Martin as Goofy
Image
Disney’s A Goofy Movie was unlike any of the studio’s previous animated features. The 1995 release attempted to combine the slapstick zaniness of Goofy with the drama of adolescent angst. To this day, it’s the only Disney movie that opens with an intensely horny body horror nightmare sequence.

The big-screen adaptation of TV’s Goof Troop didn’t do much business at the box office, but it eventually became a cult classic thanks to home video. Although it’s hard to imagine that the movie would be quite so beloved today if Goofy had sounded like a 50-year-old Steve Martin.

The production of A Goofy Movie is now the subject of a new documentary: Not Just a Goof. The doc, which was produced independently but is now streaming on Disney+, doesn’t shy away from depicting the Mouse House’s corporate blunders. Specifically, there’s a segment focusing...

Dana Carvey Explains the Secret to ‘Wayne’s World’s Success
Image
Most of the youth-oriented buddy comedies that came out in the ‘90s aren’t fondly remembered today. Like, nobody seems to be going to bat for movies like Meet the Deedles, Dead Man on Campus, or Bio-Dome, the film that dared to pair Pauly Shore with one of the Baldwins.

But at least one movie starring two Gen X slackers has stood the test of time: Wayne’s World. Also, to some extent, Wayne’s World 2.

Why are Wayne Campbell and Garth Algar still beloved by 21st century audiences when so many other hugely popular pop-culture characters from the early ‘90s have totally fallen by the wayside? On the most recent episode of the Fly on the Wall podcast’s spin-off Superfly, Dana Carvey offered up a theory.

After discussing an AI-generated Tommy Boy video that he saw online, David Spade proposed that someone could take the same approach with Wayne’s World.

“The girls really don’t want to laugh at him”: Even if Ryan Reynolds “Hated” Tj Miller the Latter Couldn’t Help but Praise His Charm in Hollywood
Image
Ryan Reynolds has certainly seen a change in the public’s opinion of him in the past few months in light of Blake Lively’s lawsuit against Justin Baldoni. Many have started to alienate him from the rest of the industry, and he has certainly seen a dip in the romantic image that he created over his entire career. However, it wasn’t too long ago that he was enforcing the world’s perception of an actor into his professional life.

Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool | Credit: Marvel Studios

Tj Miller was quite a beloved part of the first two Deadpool films. Playing the role of The Weasel in the films, he was Deadpool’s best friend and stood with him through quite a lot of conflict. Unfortunately, after the actor got accused of s*xual misconduct and found himself in legal trouble, his role was quickly removed from the films.

Bobby Cannavale Recalls Studios Wanting To Recast Peter Dinklage in Their Award-Winning 2003 Film
Image
Two decades after its theatrical release, Bobby Cannavale revisits the path that led to creating the critically acclaimed film The Station Agent. During a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Cannavale reveals that the creation of The Station Agent lingered for four years, primarily due to Peter Dinklage's casting.

Written and directed by Tom McCarthy (in his feature directorial debut), The Station Agent centers on Dinklage's Finbar McBride, a man with dwarfism who inherits an abandoned train station in a small New Jersey town. There, he meets Joe Oramas (Cannavale), a hot dog vendor, and Olivia Harris (Patricia Clarkson), an artist, and the three develop a close friendship. At the time, Dinklage wasn't an "A-list-type" actor, so studios were looking to recast him; according to Cannavale, studios also wanted to do away with one of the film's central points: Fin's dwarfism.

"I remember everything about that movie, because it took forever to get made,...

‘Sweethearts’ Review: Generic College Comedy Offers Too Little to Be Thankful For
Image
There are already multiple movies about that first, chaotic weekend when college freshmen return home. And the standards aren’t especially high; the genre includes the Pauly Shore comedy “Son-in-Law” and the Hallmark-ian romance “Turkey Drop.” But “Sweethearts,” a sex comedy lacking in sex, silliness or subversion — just one would do — barely clears the bar.

Kiernan Shipka and Nico Hiraga (“Moxie”) are Jamie and Ben, platonic besties who head off to college together. They’ve committed to long-distance relationships with their high school sweethearts, but soon realize they’d rather be single. So, like millions of students before them, they decide to break up with their partners during Thanksgiving weekend.

After a few listless mishaps, they return home to Ohio where the unsuspecting Claire (Ava DeMary) and Simon (Charlie Hall) await. Jamie is convinced the break has to happen immediately, so they enlist their other Bff, Palmer (Caleb Hearon), to help organize the night.

Eddie Murphy Should Have Won Oscars For These Movies, According To Ryan Reynolds
Image
In 1949, Alec Guinness dazzled critics and paying audiences alike by playing eight members, male and female, of the D'Ascoyne family in the deliciously dark comedy "Kind Hearts and Coronets." There weren't many actors alive cocky enough to attempt such a thing, let alone pull it off, so you'd think the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences would go gaga for the actor's brazen feat and hand him the Best Actor Oscar before the ceremony began. Amazingly, he didn't even receive a nomination (though John Wayne snared his first for basically playing John Wayne in "Sands of Iwo Jima").

How did Guinness not even earn the honor of an Oscar nod? He made one critical mistake: he gave his bravura performance in a comedy.

Of the 96 films that have won the Academy Award for Best Picture, only 15 could be called comedies (and I'm being super charitable with movies like "Green Book...

Carla Gugino Tries to Ditch Her Farm Girl Roots in This '90s Cult Classic Rom-Com
Image
Carla Gugino is one of horror's greatest actors around today, most notably having appeared in nearly every Mike Flanagan project. You'll likely be surprised to hear that one of her earliest roles was in the cult classic comedy, Son in Law. The 1993 movie features her as Rebecca Warner, a South Dakota farm girl who reinvents herself in her first semester of college in Los Angeles, then surprises her family at Thanksgiving with her new persona and college friend, Crawl (Pauly Shore). This wacky comedy from director Steve Rash received mixed reviews upon its release (with famed critic Roger Ebert giving it two out of four stars) but has since gained a cult following. Gugino's early role as a '90s Midwest princess proved her comedy chops and set her up for a long career on the big screen. Flawed, iconic, and heartfelt, Son in Law is a so-bad-it's-good cult classic worth revisiting.

30-Year-Old War Satire Movie With 12% Rt Score Is Surprisingly Very Realistic, According To Army Expert
Image
A 30-year-old satirical comedy war movie with a 12% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes is surprisingly realistic, according to a retired US Army Drill Sergeant. Throughout film history, there have been a plethora of war films that have captured the realism of combat and what life was like during times of great strife around the world. This includes everything from historically accurate World War II movies like Patton and Letters from Iwo Jima, to those surrounding other conflicts, like Platoon (set during the Vietnam War) and Black Hawk Down (set during the Battle of Mogadishu).

Some of the most historically accurate war movies in general have also left a major mark on audiences, such as Steven Spielberg's critically acclaimed Saving Private Ryan, or Richard Attenborough's A Bridge Too Far. Oftentimes, these praised films are dramatic viewpoints into wartime, although some war comedies have been made over the years as well.

You're Killin' Me, Smalls: The Origins Of Ham Porter's The Sandlot Quote
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

In 1993, David Mickey Evans' "The Sandlot" hit theaters as the kinder, gentler "The Bad News Bears" for nostalgic Baby Boomers and baseball-loving Millennials. Combining elements of Michael Ritchie's little league classic and Richard Donner's "The Goonies," the film recalls the magical summer when 11-year-old Scott Smalls (Tom Guiry) learned to play America's pastime in order to hang out with the neighborhood kids. The adventure element centers on the boys' attempts to retrieve the Babe Ruth-autographed baseball Scott unwisely "borrowed" from his step-father for use in a game, but the film is largely an anecdotal tale of early adolescents messing around all day long sans parental supervision.

The innocent freedom of "The Sandlot" is apparently forever (/Film called it one of the 20 best sports films of all time). Millennials are now sharing the film with their children, who...

Everything We Know About Clint Eastwood's Juror No. 2 (So Far)
Image
Just when you think that courtroom films can't come more twisted than Pauly Shore's Jury Duty, Clint Eastwood saunters into town with a movie promising to flip the judicial process on its head, Juror No. 2. The term "veteran filmmaker" is thrown around pretty liberally these days, but there's no one in Hollywood it suits better than the 94-year-old superstar turned prolific director, Clint Eastwood.

To put it bluntly, whether he's acting or directing, Clint Eastwood is a living legend. Given his advanced age, every picture he makes could conceivably be his last. Thankfully, he's said on multiple occasions that he will continue to work until he quite literally physically can't any longer. After the somewhat lackluster reception of his last feature film, Cry Macho, reports suggest that Clint wanted to find one final project he believed in before riding off into the sunset with his head held high, begging the question: is Juror No.

What Happened To Pauly Shore?
Image
After enjoying massive success in the 1990s, the comedian Pauly Shore seemed to disappear from the public eye. Shore became known for his manic comic delivery, which appropriates 1990s surfer speak and makes use of his signature line, Hey Buuuddy! It was a controversial persona, one which ruffled all the right feathers in the 90s, earning Shore fame and notoriety as the personification of the MTV-watching, authority-hating slacker stereotype that was so prominent during this time.

Pauly Shore was born and raised in Los Angeles, where his parents worked in comedy and the entertainment industry.

Shores candle burned brightly in the 90s, but as soon as the moment moved on, he was left behind. His decline in popularity was as rapid as his rise, but the star never went away entirely. Unfortunately for Shore, his most enduring legacy, his movies, is his least popular work. While many overlooked 90s...

The movie, which only had a budget of $20 million, ended up being a huge success and making $183.1 million at the box office (via Box Office Mojo). The sequel, however, Waynes World 2, did not perform as well as the first movie.

Carrere, who played Cassandra Wong in the classic movie has amassed over 100 credits since she began her career. Since landing her first role in Aloha Summer, Carrere has appeared in several movies and TV shows, including General Hospital, Airwolf, and The A-Team. Pauly Shore Now Feuding With Richard Simmons' Family Over Unauthorized Biopic
Image
The family of Richard Simmons is speaking out after actor Pauly Shore announced that he is moving forward with an unauthorized biopic of the fitness guru's life. The actor has now claimed that Simmons always supported his efforts prior to his death, despite social media posts to the contrary. According to a report by Variety, a statement from Simmons' brother posted on Simmons' official X/Twitter account contradicts Shore's claims, saying Simmons did not want the comedian playing him in a film about his life.

Pauly Shore Presses On With Plans For Richard Simmons Biopic, And Simmons’ Staff Responds

Pauly Shore is questioning whether remarks attributed to Richard Simmons about not wanting a biopic were written by the fitness guru.

Shore, who plans to star and executive produce a biopic about Simmons, told “Entertainment Tonight” that pre-death social media posts from Simmons critical of Shore taking on the role could have been fake.

Pauly Shore and Richard Simmons’ family are clashing over a proposed biopic of the late fitness icon that is supposed to star Shore.
