5 Other Cursed Objects Such as Annabelle Doll Featured in Hollywood Movies
Image
The death of paranormal investigator Dan Rivera has opened up discussions on the subject of cursed objects. Rivera, who worked with the New England Society for Psychic Research, died on July 13 during a tour in which he was showcasing the Annabelle doll. According to the Evening Sun, he was on a visit to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, as part of the Devils on the Run tour.

The organization confirmed Rivera’s death on July 14 via a Facebook post. They wrote, “We are heartbroken and still processing this loss. Dan truly believed in sharing his experiences and educating people on the paranormal.” He worked on paranormal research and investigations for over 10 years.

He was showing the Raggedy Ann doll, named Annabelle, during the Gettysburg tour. Annabelle is widely described as a “demonically possessed” doll. According to the New England Society, the doll’s origin goes back to 1968, when a student nurse was gifted the doll.

Not Tom Cruise or Leonardo DiCaprio: This Actor Was James Cameron’s First Choice To Play Jack Dawson In Titanic
Image
Was Leonardo DiCaprio not the first choice for Jack in Titanic?(Photo Credit –Facebook)

James Cameron’s epic disaster film Titanic was released in 1997, and the film became the highest-grossing movie then. Until now, only three films, namely ‘Avatar’, ‘Avengers: Endgame’, and ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’, are ahead of Titanic in terms of the global box office figures.

Before Leonardo DiCaprio was finally cast in the lead role of Jack, James Cameron’s first choice was another young and talented actor. Any wild guesses? Read on to know the actor’s name.

James Cameron Wanted This Actor To Play Jack Dawson in Titanic

As per a report by Cinema Blend, Titanic director James Cameron wanted to cast River Phoenix for the coveted role. Unfortunately, the casting could not happen because of the actor’s sudden death when he was just 23 years old. This happened before James Cameron could even...

Kim Basinger Gives Rare Interview on ‘9½ Weeks’ Feud Rumors, Intimacy Coordinators and Why She’s Not Retired: I’m ‘Picky’ and There’s ‘A Lot of Bad Material’
Image
In the mid-’90s, Kim Basinger was newly married to actor Alec Baldwin and had just given birth to their daughter, Ireland, when her William Morris agent sent her the script for “L.A. Confidential.” She was tired of playing the siren roles that had defined her — from a Bond girl in “Never Say Never Again” to a New York gallery owner in the erotic classic “9½ Weeks” to a barefoot Vicki Vale running through the streets of Gotham City in Tim Burton’s 1989 “Batman.”

“I said, ‘Well, I’m not interested in playing a whore. Not doing it. I’m a mom, so I’m not going to play that,’” she recalls.

But her agent persisted, and she agreed to take a 3 p.m. meeting with the late director Curtis Hanson at the Formosa in West Hollywood. The lot was empty, and she drove around mulling the parking spaces...

'Titanic' Sails Into Top Spot on Hulu's Streaming Chart
Image
Even with it becoming cool to hate on the 1997 James Cameron drama, Titanic, it is still among Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio's best movies, and one of the most quoted romance movies of all-time. Nearly 30 years after the film was released, and over 110 years after the event it was based on, audiences on streaming still can't get enough of Jack and Rose's short-lived romance, as Titanic has gained a second life on streaming.

Titanic is currently the #1 movie on Hulu, according to the streamer's weekly ranking. The film should require very little introduction, as Jack and Rose's story of forbidden love on board the Rms Titanic has been quoted, parodied, and memed to death by fans and contrarian haters. For the uninitiated, and people who've been living under a rock for the last 20+ years, Titanic follows Jack, who wins a ticket on board the "unsinkable" Titanic in a poker match.

Tom Cruise Missed Out on 'Titanic' Because of Money Issues
Image
For most Hollywood actors, landing good roles is never easy. You have to pester your agent, attend industry functions and pretend to smile, warm up to people you’d rather not associate with, and openly express interest in certain films during interviews. However, not everyone suffers from this problem. Work looks for some stars, not the other way around. This was confirmed in a recent BBC 1Xtra interview where Denzel Washington revealed that it’s been more than 40 years since he auditioned for anything. It all stems from being good at your craft, and a few other actors can relate, notably Tom Cruise.

1923 Season 1: You Aren’t the Only One to Think Taylor Sheridan’s Finale Is Awfully Similar to Leonardo DiCaprio’s $2.2 Billion Blockbuster
Image
Well, it’s not the best time to fall in love… or is it? If you’re a sucker for romantic tales that play out with all the intensity of a stormy ocean crossing, then 1923 Season 1’s finale was tailor-made for you. Picture the scene: two souls, caught between passion and destiny, trying to navigate life’s treacherous waters. Sound familiar? It should—because for anyone who remembers the iconic Titanic, there’s more than a whiff of that same fate-laden romance in the air.

Titanic’s Alternate Ending Would Have Shown Kate Winslet’s Rose as Less of a Villain as She Turned Out to Be
Image
James Cameron’s Titanic has the power to reduce all of us to tears as we watch the tragic love story of Jack and Rose, but nothing brings more pain to the viewers than seeing the precious Heart of the Ocean necklace sink into the depths of the sea.

Like many successful movie projects, Titanic has an alternate ending that would witness the main protagonist in a different light. Endings are always tricky and could make or break a story no matter how good the beginning and middle parts were, and this one deleted ending scene might have affected the audience’s response to the film.

Titanic’s Alternate Ending Sheds a Different Perspective on Rose

Kim Basinger is the blonde bombshell has certainly proved her bonafides as an actress, quickly going from sex symbol to respected Oscar winner. Let’s take a look back at 10 of her greatest films, ranked worst to best.

Born in 1953 in Athens, Georgia, Basinger got her start as a model before turning to acting, catching the attentions of movie audiences as a Bond girl in the Sean Connery-starring “Never Say Never Again” (1983). She earned her first Golden Globe nomination soon thereafter for a supporting performance as Robert Redford‘s love interest in “The Natural” (1984).

She courted controversy with her sexually explicit turn in Adrien Lyne‘s “9 1/2 Weeks” (1986) and became a box office draw with Tim Burton‘s superhero smash “Batman” (1989). She even proved she could poke fun at herself with a cameo appearance in “Wayne’s World 2” (1992) as the aptly-named Honey Horneé.

Leonard Maltin Teams with Quentin Tarantino’s New Beverly Cinema for a Weekend of Rare Treasures
Image
Back in 2016, Moma curator Dave Kehr programmed a series of restorations and rediscoveries from the early days of sound at Universal Studios. Across the country in Los Angeles, film historian Leonard Maltin looked at the schedule with envy and longing. “My mouth was watering,” Maltin told IndieWire. “I was so frustrated that I couldn’t just fly to New York and set up a futon in the lobby so I could go to all the films he was screening.”

Luckily, Maltin was able to see some of the films back in Hollywood when Universal archivist Bob O’Neil allowed him to sit in on screenings that had been set up to check answer prints. “I saw dozens of them,” Maltin said. “Some were good, many were unmemorable or downright bad, but every now and then I got lucky and found a real winner.”

Maltin wanted to share his discoveries with the Los Angeles film community,...

“Leo’s character is a genuine jerk”: Leonardo DiCaprio’s Greatest Love Story With Kate Winslet in Titanic is an Awful Movie For Many Critics
Image
It’s actually next to impossible to forget the heart-stirring saga of Jack and Rose in James Cameron’s epic masterpiece, Titanic. Has there ever been a love story quite like Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet’s characters in the 1997 film that has been hailed as a treasure while also being panned by many critics?

Indeed, not even the frosty reception of some critics could overshadow the warmth of Jack and Rose’s love story which, to this day, causes a stir among film aficionados. Old Rose (Gloria Stuart) tells treasure hunter Brock Lovett (Bill Paxton), his crew, and her granddaughter about Titanic’s story, as they had never heard of Jack Dawson (played by DiCaprio).

According to Reddit users, Jack was not the nice guy Rose mentioned in her story; rather, he was a jerk, who actually met Rose for...

To celebrate Eva Marie Saint, which 4 Oscar acting winners lived to be 100?
Image
Over the 96 years of Academy Awards history, over 900 men and women have been honored with acting nominations. On July 4, 2024, the oldest surviving acting winner (or nominee) has turned 100 years old. Our research shows that Eva Marie Saint joins a very short list of centenarians who received Oscar acting nominations, with four winning the award.

A star of stage, radio, TV and film, Saint won the Best Supporting Actress statue in 1955 for her debut movie performance in “On the Waterfront;” she is also the earliest surviving acting winner, and one of the last stars of the Golden Era. She later starred alongside Cary Grant in one of Alfred Hitchcock‘s most acclaimed films, “North by Northwest” (1959), and became known to a younger generation as Clark Kent’s adoptive mother in “Superman Returns” (2006). Although she’s never received another Oscar nomination, she’s earned five Emmy nominations, winning Best Miniseries Supporting Actress...

James Cameron & Kate Winslet Address Titanic Feud Rumors
Image
Titanic director James Cameron and star Kate Winslet address rumors of a feud between them while filming. Released in 1997, Titanic chronicles the love story between Rose (Winslet) and Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) set aboard the ill-fated vessel of the same name in 1912. The film was a critical and commercial smash hit, but rumors began to circulate around the time of release that Cameron and Winslet didn't totally get along during production.

In a recent interview with Variety, both Cameron and Winslet deny that there was any feud between them during or after Titanic. According to Winslet, their relationship is actually a very productive and creatively fulfilling one. Check out their comments below:

James Cameron: "There was never a rift between us. She had a little postpartum depression when she let go of Rose. She and I have talked about the fact that she goes really, really deep, and her characters leave a lasting,...

Here’s how ‘Oppenheimer’ could tie the Oscar record for most wins
Image
“Oppenheimer” is the most nominated film at this year’s Oscars with 13 nominations. That’s one shy of the all-time record of 14 nominations so it missed out on Oscars history in the nomination phase.

However, Universal’s movie could match Academy Awards history in the awards phase by equalling the record of 11 Oscar wins overall. So far, three films have won 11 Academy Awards. They were “Ben-Hur” in 1960, “Titanic” in 1998, and “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” in 2004. Here’s the breakdown of what awards they won.

“Ben-Hur”

10 Actors Whose Highest-Grossing Movie Is Their Best One
Image
Some iconic actors find their best work in their highest-grossing movie, despite commercial and critical divides. Films like "Titanic" and "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" stand out for being both successful and beloved. Stars like DiCaprio, Mortensen, and Gadot have had their careers defined by blockbusters despite other acclaimed work.

Commercial and critical success don't always align, but for several iconic actors, their highest-grossing movie is also their best. While many of the highest-grossing films are unbelievable cinematic experiences that have pushed the medium forward and set cultural standards for moviemaking, they're often not the most critically celebrated films. Only rarely have films like Titanic and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King been both commercial and award-winning juggernauts.

Some of the best movies of all time have been box office hits, but many flew relatively under the radar upon their release,...

Revisiting Julianne Moore’s 5 Oscar nominations in honor of ‘May December’
Image
“May December,” the newest acclaimed drama film from Todd Haynes, is now available to stream on Netflix, and one of the film’s stars, Julianne Moore, is already an early favorite to receive a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination for her spellbinding performance. Let’s look back at her five Academy Award races and talk about why Moore finally won her first gold trophy in 2015 for “Still Alice” (2014).

Her first Oscar nomination came in 1998 in the Best Supporting Actress category for “Boogie Nights” (1997). Moore’s only Academy Award nom of the 1990s put her up against Joan Cusack for “In & Out,” Minnie Driver for “Good Will Hunting,” Gloria Stuart for “Titanic” and Kim Basinger for “L.A. James Cameron Confesses That Titanic's Most Famous Scene has One Imperfection
Image
James Cameron admits that there is a slight imperfection in the iconic "I'm flying, Jack" scene from Titanic. The scene was shot at sundown and only had time for two takes, resulting in a short moment of blurriness. Despite the imperfection, Titanic was still a huge success, winning 11 Academy Awards and becoming a box office hit.

James Cameron is something of a perfectionist when it comes to his movies, so his confession that there is an error in one of his most iconic scenes is surprising to say the least. Having become known for spending many years perfecting every frame of his Avatar movies, James Cameron has set his bar very high in terms of box office success. However, thanks to a featurette included in the new 4K Ultra HD release of the director’s Oscar-winning Titanic, Cameron confesses that the film’s memorable “I’m flying, Jack” scene ended...

10 Questions About Titanic You're Embarrassed To Ask (But May Be Wondering)
Image
James Cameron and his crew captured footage of the real Titanic wreckage, which was incorporated into the movie. Cameron's desire to visit the shipwreck inspired the film. Gloria Stuart, a relatively unknown actress, portrayed the elderly Rose in Titanic. She is most well-known for her movies in the 1930s. The grave of a "J. Dawson" in a cemetery in Halifax, Canada has created theories that Jack's body was recovered. However, it is likely just a coincidence.

Decades after its monumental success, many are still curious about James Cameron's Titanic but may be embarrassed to ask some questions if the answer seems like they should be obvious. Titanic is a cinematic landmark that was nominated for a record-breaking 14 Oscars and won 11, including the 1998 Best Picture award. The historical fiction epic depicts the romance between first-class passenger Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet) and third-class artist Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio), on the...

10 Alternate Movie Endings That Thankfully Didn't Happen
Image
Some movies had near-miss alternate endings that would have ruined everything that came before. Thankfully, these bad ideas were not pursued. While it is intriguing to think about how different endings would have impacted the movies, it is good that the sensible option prevailed. Alternate endings, such as Rose throwing the Heart of the Ocean into the sea in Titanic or Chris being sent to prison in Get Out, would have been tonally wrong or frustrating for audiences.

Some movies with good endings could have gone a different way, maybe even in such a ridiculous direction that they'd have ruined everything that came before, and thankfully, those alternate ideas did not happen. When one hears about some near-misses with movie endings, it's a wonder what the writers were thinking. Sure, drafting various possibilities is a natural part of the creative process, but some bad ideas just shouldn't even be shared with the public.

‘The Color Purple’ trio could bring number of doubly Oscar-nominated fictional characters to 20
Image
Just two years after Anita of “West Side Story” became the first non-white fictional character to inspire multiple Academy Award nominations, three others are on their way to earning the same distinction. As was the case in 1986, 30% of 2024’s female acting Oscar slots could be filled by stars of “The Color Purple,” the new version of which serves as an adaptation of the similarly titled stage musical rather than Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. If Fantasia Barrino, Danielle Brooks, and Taraji P. Henson all reap bids for their fresh takes on the parts for which Whoopi Goldberg, Oprah Winfrey, and Margaret Avery were previously recognized, the overall list of doubly Oscar-nominated fictional characters will expand to include 20 examples.

In “The Color Purple,” Barrino executes the lead role of Celie Johnson, who she initially played on Broadway as a direct successor to 2006 Tony-winning originator Lachanze. As in the book and first film,...

The Oscars Nominated Two Actors for the Same Role in This Movie
Image
When following the Academy Awards from year to year, it's always fun to note the significant, competitive records that films, filmmakers, and actors set and break. Sometimes, acutely specific first-time events occur when the Oscar nominations are announced. One such instance came when two actors were nominated for performances playing the same character in the same film. At the 70th Academy Awards in 1998, Kate Winslet and Gloria Stuart were both nominated for playing Rose DeWitt Bukater in 1997's Titanic. Winslet, nominated for Best Actress, played Rose for most of the film's narrative, while Stuart, nominated for Best Supporting Actress, played Rose in her later years at the film's bookends. Though it's one of many times that two actors portrayed the same character at different stages of life, it was the first time a pair had been Oscar-nominated in the same year.

Is Rose Dead At The End Of Titanic? What The Movie's Ending Reveals

Titanic is one of the greatest love stories depicted in modern cinema, but there are still some questions about Rose’s fate at the end of the film. Despite being released more than two decades ago, James Cameron’s Titanic continues to appeal to audiences of all ages. With the striking chemistry between Kate Winslet’s Rose and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Jack, the tragic love story lives as one of Hollywood cinema's most beloved romances.

Attention, Hollywood: De-Aging Isn’t Working, So Please Stop Using It
Image
Here’s a fun fact that Hollywood actors hate to admit… people get older.

In a reaction to the natural progression of life, Hollywood has engaged in de-aging effects for older actors to play younger versions of their characters, whether in franchises or standalone films — such as Robert DeNiro in “The Irishman,” Samuel L. Jackson in “Captain Marvel” and most recently, Harrison Ford in “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.”

Like most new technology that comes into the industry, it takes some getting used to. However, with more than two dozen high-profile experiments thus far, the misfires greatly outweigh the successes. De-aging effects in Hollywood still need to be fine-tuned, and Hollywood should only use them once we can perfect the technique.

A primary concern is that while these effects are visually impressive, they fall short of replicating the natural appearance of a younger self. In addition, it can...

1 Impossible Titanic Scene Is Worse Than Jack And The Door
Image
James Cameron paid close attention to every single detail when making Titanic, but that doesn’t mean it’s a plot-hole-free movie, and there’s one problematic scene that is actually worse than the highly-debated ending with Jack and the door frame. Back in 1997, James Cameron surprised the audience with the disaster drama Titanic, which at the time was the most expensive movie ever made, and it was so successful it held the spot of the highest-grossing film of all time for many years. Cameron took the real-life tragedy of the Rms Titanic in 1912 to tell the fictional love story of Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet), which was doomed to tragedy.

Titanic follows Rose, a first-class passenger, and Jack, a third-class young man, who meet on board the Titanic and fall in love, and while they do their best to defend their romance from those...

Lovett Would've Lost Titanic's Diamond (Even If Rose Didn't Toss It)

Rose sharing her story in Titanic was possible thanks to Brock Lovett (Bill Paxton) and his mission to find the Heart of the Ocean in the remains of the Titanic, but even if Rose hadn’t tossed the necklace at the end and Lovett had finally gotten his hands on it, the diamond wouldn’t have stayed with him for long. Although James Cameron took the real-life tragedy of the Rms Titanic as the basis for his movie, it tells the fictional love story of Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet) and Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio), all thanks to a rare diamond.

Titanic begins with treasure hunter Brock Lovett and his team visiting the Titanic wreckage as they looked for a rare, blue diamond known as the Heart of the Ocean, believed to have been one of the many objects that sank with the ship. Their search led them to Rose...

Titanic Ending Explained
Image
The ending for Titanic (1997) ties up nearly 195 minutes of runtime in a satisfying and emotional finale. Titanic is a historical romance based on the real-life tragedy of the Rms Titanic. The movie jumps between the romance of Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Rose (Kate Winslet) and the contemporary search for the ship's wreck by a research team with the help of an elderly Rose (Gloria Stuart). This is the seventh film by James Cameron and was, at the time, the highest-grossing movie of all time, earning $1.843 billion (via Box Office Mojo). It was only surpassed in 2009 by Cameron’s Avatar, which earned $2.923 billion (Box Office Mojo).

Titanic was not only a financial success but a critically acclaimed blockbuster as well. It broke records as one of the movies with the most Oscar nominations. At the 70th Academy Awards, Titanic was nominated for 14 awards and won 11 categories, including Best Picture and Best Director.

Titanic: What Happened To The Real Rose, Beatrice Wood
Image
What's the true story behind Beatrice Wood, the real-life figure who would partially inspire Kate Winslet's Rose from Titanic? Interested in the ocean and shipwrecks from a young age, it was perhaps inevitable that James Cameron would one day take the Hms Titanic to the movies. The landmark ship infamously crashed into an iceberg during its maiden voyage in April 1912 despite being supposedly indestructible, resulting in over two-thirds of the passengers and crew on board losing their lives. James Cameron does take elements of real life for his record-breaking 1997 Titanic movie. The majority of Titanic is, however, highly fictionalized, based around the love story of Leonardo DiCaprio's Jack Dawson and Kate Winslet's Rose.

The sad love story of Jack and Rose captured the hearts of audiences despite being fiction. However, Rose was inspired somewhat by Wood. Just like Rose, Beatrice came from a wealthy, traditional family of American...

2023 Oscars Best Supporting Actor nominees: 1 veteran versus 4 rookies
Image
The 2023 Oscar nominees for Best Supporting Actor are Brendan Gleeson (“The Banshees of Inisherin”), Brian Tyree Henry (“Causeway”), Judd Hirsch (“The Fabelmans”), Barry Keoghan (“The Banshees of Inisherin”), and Ke Huy Quan (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”). Our odds currently show Quan (31/10) triumphing, followed in order of likelihood by Gleeson (4/1), Keoghan (4/1), Hirsch (9/2), and Henry (9/2).

Hirsch is the only returning nominee among the five, as he was previously recognized for his featured turn in “Ordinary People” in 1981. He is the 74th man to earn at least two supporting notices and the sixth to be added to that list in the last five years after Mahershala Ali, Sam Rockwell, Anthony Hopkins, Brad Pitt, and J. K. Simmons. The 42-year gap between his first and second bids is the largest for any performer across any of the lead or supporting categories. The previous record holder was Henry Fonda, who won Best Actor for...

Titanic's Alternate Ending Could've Been One Of The Greatest Misfires In Movie History
Image
When James Cameron set out to make his historical romantic disaster epic, "Titanic," he was taking a massive financial and creative risk. Not only was the film the most expensive ever made at that time, but Cameron's name was more affiliated with genre blockbusters like "The Terminator" or "Aliens," not the kind of movies that would make legions of moms cry in the theater. As has been proven time and time again, one should never bet against James Cameron, who from "Titanic" onward has exclusively directed the highest-grossing films in history.

The success of a film like "Titanic" is the result of thousands of decisions, like casting, costuming, special effects, editing, and most importantly, screenwriting. "Titanic" is considered by many to be one of the best films of all time, and is currently tied for winning the most ever Academy Awards. But before "Titanic" shipped into theaters and changed the cinematic landscape forever,...

SAG Awards nominee profile: Jamie Lee Curtis (‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’) could be the oldest person to win twice for one film
Image
Nearly 30 years after she was part of the inaugural class of Screen Actors Guild Awards nominees with her supporting bid for 1994’s “True Lies,” Jamie Lee Curtis, who lost back then to Dianne Wiest (“Bullets Over Broadway”), finally has not one but two more shots at being honored by the acting guild. Her individual and ensemble notices for “Everything Everywhere All at Once” come nearly five decades into her prolific career and could lead to a record-breaking dual achievement. If the 64-year-old succeeds on both bids, she will be the oldest performer to win two SAG Awards for a single film.

Of the four women challenging Curtis in the supporting category, only Hong Chau (“The Whale”) has vied for the same prize before. She was part of the 2017 lineup for “Downsizing” but lost that race to Allison Janney. Also in the running are general first-timer Kerry Condon (“The Banshees of Inisherin...

SAG Awards nominee profile: Ensemble champ Angela Bassett seeks first solo win for ‘Black Panther’s’ Queen Ramonda
Image
In the entire history of the Screen Actors Guild Awards, only Ian McKellen (as Gandalf) has accomplished the feat of winning twice for playing a single character in multiple films. After nearly two decades, the supporting actor (2001’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring”) and ensemble (2003’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King”) victor might soon be joined in this distinction by current supporting actress nominee Angela Bassett. Her “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” bid is her first individual film one from the guild and comes four years after she was honored as a member of the original “Black Panther” cast.

Bassett is now a four-time SAG Award nominee, having been recognized for her performances in the TV movies “Ruby’s Bucket of Blood” (2001) and “Betty and Coretta” (2013). Her supporting actress competition includes Hong Chau (“The Whale”) and Jamie Lee Curtis (“Everything Everywhere All at Once...

Watch: 'Titanic' 25 Years Later - Featurette with Cameron & Winslet
Image
"I believe in the theatrical experience." Paramount Pictures has debuted a new featurette for the 2023 re-release of Titanic, James Cameron's epic romantic tale of the sinking of the Rms Titanic. "Celebrate the 25th anniversary of the timeless love story this Valentine's Day Weekend." This is opening on the big screen again in 4K 3D (along with Hfr screenings) and will play throughout February. This video focuses on the cast and filmmakers reflecting on making Titanic now 25 years later, to compliment the re-release trailer. With a cast headed by Oscar winners Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, the film is an epic, action-packed romance set against the ill-fated maiden voyage of the "unsinkable" Titanic, at the time, the largest moving object ever built. Also starring Billy Zane, Kathy Bates, Bill Paxton, and Gloria Stuart. This featurette is way too short, more of a slapdash promo plus a reminder this is (re-)opening soon.

SAG Awards nominee profile: Brendan Gleeson (‘The Banshees of Inisherin’) would be oldest dual film winner ever
Image
In addition “Braveheart” (1995), “Gangs of New York” (2002) and three “Harry Potter” movies, Brendan Gleeson’s acting resume include several collaborations each with filmmaking brothers John Michael and Martin McDonagh. His and the latter writer-director’s third project, “The Banshees of Inisherin,” has led to his very first Screen Actors Guild Award nominations for both supporting actor and ensemble. Now well into the fourth decade of his career, the sexagenarian could make history as the oldest performer to win two SAG trophies for a single film.

In the supporting category, Gleeson is competing against three others who are also up for the ensemble prize: Paul Dano (“The Fabelmans”), Ke Huy Quan (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”) and his “Banshees” castmate, Barry Keoghan. Like Gleeson, Keoghan and Quan are total SAG Awards newcomers, while Dano is already an ensemble winner for 2006’s “Little Miss Sunshine.” The fifth and final solo contender, Eddie Redmayne...

James Hong (‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’) set to shatter SAG Awards record
Image
By amassing hundreds of film and TV credits over the past seven decades, James Hong has cemented himself as an indelible figure in the history of screen entertainment. Having just received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame last May, the 93-year-old is now reaping the benefits of taking on one of his most high-profile roles yet in “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” His inclusion in the movie’s ensemble is expected to lead to his first Screen Actors Guild Award nomination, which would make him the oldest film performer ever recognized by the organization.

Hong appears in “Everything Everywhere All at Once” as Gong Gong, the irascible father of Michelle Yeoh’s lead character, Evelyn Wang. He, Yeoh, and Stephanie Hsu share a connection in that they have all voiced characters in the “Kung Fu Panda” franchise. Also included among Hong’s potential fellow nominees for Best Film Ensemble are Ke Huy Quan,...

James Cameron apologizes for “cringe-worthy” Oscar speech
Image
James Cameron, who won the Best Director Oscar for 1997’s Titanic, is apologizing for his infamous “I’m the king of the world!” speech given at the 70th Academy Awards, calling it “cringeworthy.”

James Cameron said of his Oscar moment, “I was trying to express the joy and excitement that I was feeling in terms of that movie, and the most joyful moment for the character.” At least he didn’t try to do a sketch of the naked Oscar statue.

Continuing his reflection on that Oscar speech, James Cameron said, “What I learned is, you don’t quote your own movie if you win…Because it’s cringeworthy. It makes the assumption that you didn’t win by a narrow margin but that every single person sitting in the audience on that night at the Kodak Theatre saw and loved Titanic. We’ll never know how much we won by,...

Kate Winslet Recalls Hilarious Moment Due To Titanic Nude Scene
Image
Titanic star Kate Winslet recalls how her nude scene in the film led to her daughter having a funny interaction with another student at school. Released in 1997, Titanic tells the story of the passionate romance between Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Rose (Winslet), aboard the infamous ill-fated ship. The film remained the highest-grossing movie of all time for 12 straight years and won a number of Oscars, including Best Picture. Titanic is largely considered to have launched both Winslet and DiCaprio's careers, but the film also stars Billy Zane, Kathy Bates, Frances Fisher, Bill Paxton, Bernard Hill, and Gloria Stewart.

One of the most iconic scenes in Titanic is when Jack draws Rose, who strips nude for her portrait. In a recent interview on The Graham Norton Show, shared by Lionsgate Play on YouTube, Winslet reveals that the scene led to a hilarious moment involving her daughter, with a fellow student at...

Revisiting the 1997 ‘Titanic’ Oscars: Will the Academy Awards Ever Find 57 Million People Watching Again?
Image
It was lightning in a bottle.

The 70th Academy Awards in 1998 served as a high-water mark for the annual telecast that the Oscars have struggled to match for over two decades. And it wasn’t only because of the “king of the world” moment.

With an estimated 87.5 million viewers tuning in for part or all of the awards (57 million reported by Nielsen on ABC), the ceremony saw the massively popular “Titanic” win 11 Oscars, including best picture; it was one of those rare moments where a populist favorite was also an awards season darling. But there are other reasons to look back at that ceremony with a mixture of appreciation and sadness – and at least some wistfulness for how the movie business operated at its peak, a pinnacle it may never reach again. With a balance of box office sensations and arthouse hits, there was something for everyone at the Shrine Auditorium that evening.

Let’s revisit James Cameron’s 6 Oscar races before ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ debuts
Image
A likelihood going into the 2023 awards season is that James Cameron will receive at least one Academy Award nomination for “Avatar: The Way of Water,” the highly anticipated follow-up to 2009’s Oscar-winning blockbuster, “Avatar.” Critics have been raving about the film ahead of its December 16 debut, with Bilge Ebiri of Vulture saying it “might be James Cameron’s sweetest, gentlest, most personal film,” and David Ehrlich of IndieWire calling it “easily one of the best theatrical experiences in ages.” So which categories will he be nominated in? There’s lots to choose from, after all, with Cameron serving as the director, co-writer, co-producer and co-editor of 20th Century Studios’ sequel. Since he is likely to be a major player in the upcoming awards season, let’s look back at James Cameron’s six previous Oscar races, three for “Titanic” (1997) and three for “Avatar” (2009), and then discuss where he stands for his latest three-hour blockbuster.

Image

Golden Globes history in the making: Judd Hirsch (‘The Fabelmans’) would be oldest winner ever
Image
Forty-two years after receiving his only film acting Golden Globe nomination for “Ordinary People,” Judd Hirsch is back in the Best Supporting Actor conversation thanks to his brief yet powerful performance as Uncle Boris Schildkraut in “The Fabelmans.” If the 87-year-old does earn his overall ninth Golden Globe notice for his work in the Steven Spielberg film, he will be the third oldest performer ever recognized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which would put him one step away from making history as the oldest acting Golden Globe winner of all time.

The current record for oldest acting Golden Globe champion has been held since 1989 by John Gielgud. The two-time HFPA honoree was 84 years old when he won Best TV Supporting Actor for the limited series “War and Remembrance.” The only actors older than Hirsch who have ever contended in any Golden Globe category are Ernest Borgnine and Christopher Plummer.

Titanic Detail Hints Rose Was Wearing The Necklace The Entire Time
Image
James Cameron’s Titanic is packed with small details, and one has made viewers believe that Rose was wearing the diamond the entire time. One of James Cameron’s most impressive projects has been Titanic, a disaster drama movie released in 1997 and which was the most expensive movie ever made at the time, and went on to become the highest-grossing film of all time for many, many years. Although Titanic is based on the real-life tragedy of the Rms Titanic in 1912, it tells a fictional story led by fictional characters, but he also added characters based on real-life passengers of the ship and paid a lot of attention to even the smallest details in every aspect.

Titanic, then, tells the story of Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet), a first-class young woman, and Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio), a third-class passenger, who meet onboard the ship and over the course of four...

‘Boogie Nights’ 25th anniversary: An appreciation of the 3-time Oscar nominee
Image
In the midst of the 1997 fall movie season, “Boogie Nights” came out of nowhere to be one of the most acclaimed and talked-about films of the year. The biggest name in its ensemble cast was Burt Reynolds, who hadn’t been in a hit film or television series in years. The movie was directed by the virtually unknown Paul Thomas Anderson, whose sole credit “Hard Eight” had been essentially dumped into theaters the previous February. And a narrative about the rise and fall of a porn start that ran a long two-and-a-half hours didn’t exactly seem like a slam dunk production for critics or at the box office.

However, the film premiered to a wave of enthusiasm at the Toronto Film Festival and critical raves upon its limited release in October 1997. And the rest is now history. Read on for our appreciation of the “Boogie Nights” 25th anniversary.

At the time,...
