Buffy The Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale Set Photos Reveal Sarah Michelle Gellar Back In Her Most Iconic Role
Image
Following our first look at new Buffy the Vampire Slayer lead Ryan Kiera Armstrong (Star Wars: Skeleton Crew) on the set of the New Sunnydale reboot/sequel series, Sarah Michelle Gellar has now been spotted on the Los Angeles set.

As we first reported on FearHQ.com, Buffy Summers has traded in her vampire hunting gear for a red power suit, with many fans wondering if she's gone "corporate" since we last saw her in action. If the vampire threat went away for a while, she's likely gotten on with her life before something happens to pull her back in.

The prevailing theory among fans is that Armstrong's character is Buffy's daughter, with the "Vampire Slayer" mantle passed down to the teenager.

Gellar is unlikely to be the only familiar face we see as the actress, who also serves as executive producer, recently said, "We will try to find...

Buffy The Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale Set Video Reveals First Look At Ryan Kiera Armstrong's Slayer
Image
The Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot, which reportedly has "New Sunnydale" as its working title, has started shooting in Los Angeles. With that comes what appears to be a first look at Star Wars: Skeleton Crew star Ryan Kiera Armstrong as the show's new lead slayer.

There have been some grumblings about the 15-year-old Armstrong being a little too young for this role, and she definitely looks like a high schooler here. However, it's worth noting that in the original series, Buffy Summers was also only meant to be 16, though Gellar was 20 at the time.

Sarah Michelle Gellar is reprising her role as Buffy in the series, which added Rakotohavana (Secret Society of Second Born Royals) as Hugo, Ava Jean (Law & Order: Svu) as Larkin, Sarah Bock (Severance) as Gracie, Daniel di Tomasso (Witches of East End) as Abe, and Jack Cutmore-Scott (Oppenheimer) as Mr. Burke earlier this week.

'Buffy' Reboot Finds Its New Vampire Slayer in a Star Wars Alum
Image
In every generation, there is a chosen one...and in this generation, that chosen one is Ryan Kiera Armstrong. The Star Wars: Skeleton Crew star will lead the new Buffy the Vampire Slayer series. Variety reports that the actor will star alongside original slayer Sarah Michelle Gellar in the upcoming horror series.

Says Gellar, who will executive produce the series and recur as Buffy Summers, "From the moment I saw Ryan’s audition, I knew there was only one girl that I wanted by my side. To have that kind of emotional intelligence, and talent, at such a young age is truly a gift. The bonus is that her smile lights up even the darkest room." The series, which was announced earlier this year, will feature Buffy as a mentor to Armstrong's new slayer; any other plot details, or returning characters from the original series, are being kept under wraps.

Slam evil! The Phantom appears on 4K Blu-ray later this year
Image
In the wake of Batman and its hit sequels, interestingly, movie studios wouldn’t necessarily snatch up more DC properties to adapt, but they did attempt to bring more classic pulp heroes to the screen with The Rocketeer, The Shadow and 1996’s The Phantom. While there was an animated series just two years prior with the purple-clad character trying to save our dying planet in the future with The Phantom 2040, the feature film with Billy Zane takes its cue more from Indiana Jones-esque action with its 1930s setting and globe-trotting adventure.

Blu-ray.com has reported that the Paramount adaptation of the Lee Falk comic strip is now set to grace your TV screens in crisp ultra-high def 4K with a new Blu-ray from Kino Lorber. The new physical release of the Simon Wincer film, which stars Billy Zane, Kristy Swanson, Treat Williams, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and James Remar, is scheduled to...

“That’s incredibly frustrating to me”: Why Joss Whedon Hated ‘Twilight’ After Making ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ With Sarah Michelle Gellar
Image
Joss Whedon hated every vampire show that came after his seminal work, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The reason, though it has some truth to it, will raise your eyebrow since it came from Whedon. The creator explained that the central female characters in works like Twilight and The Vampire Diaries had more of a passive role in their respective stories, unlike Buffy.

Whedon’s protagonist, played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, was not just at the center of Buffy‘s plot, but she was also instrumental in driving it. She is a descendant of the Vampire Slayers, who battle vampires, demons, and other forces of darkness.

While Whedon delivered strong female protagonists in his story, he was accused of dehumanizing the actresses in his series by creating toxic workplace environments. The allegations came from Buffy stars Charisma Carpenter,...

Why Kristy Swanson Was Recast in Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Image
Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a campy and colorful film before it was remade as the long-running horror series on The WB. In 1992, the first iteration of the iconic vampire slayer hit the silver screen. The film bombed at the box office but developed a cult following over the years. Kristy Swanson played the titular character alongside Luke Perry and Donald Sutherland.

Five years later, Joss Whedon developed his quippy heroine for the small screen. Whedon had been vocal about his feelings about the film and jumped at the chance to remake Buffy his way. The hit series ran for seven seasons and starred Sarah Michelle Gellar. Some fans of the film wondered why Swanson was recast.

Kristy Swanson Enjoyed Playing Buffy

Kristy Swanson remembers her time as Buffy the Vampire Slayer fondly. When she spoke with Fox News, she recalled that Luke Perry had recommended her for the role.

Why Willow Was Recast After Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s Pilot
Image
Buffy the Vampire Slayer is one of the most beloved television series of all time, and it shaped the current world of television through its expert blending of drama and supernatural stories. The series follows the adventures of teenage vampire slayer, Buffy Summers, and her friends as they fight to protect the town of Sunnydale from the evil forces unleashed by the local hellmouth. The Buffster and her Scooby Gang have become icons of pop culture, but an ill-fated pilot episode almost brought an end to the Slayer.

The television series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, rose from the grave of the critically and commercially panned 1992 film by the same name, starring Kristy Swanson. Creator Joss Whedon decided to pivot to television and completely retooled the concept, writing a new script, and bringing in an entirely new cast. Buffy fans will notice Alyson Hannigan, who plays Buffy’s best friend, Willow Rosenberg,...

Former Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Juliet Landau has hinted that she could return for the show's upcoming revival. Landau appeared in Buffy and its spinoff Angel as the vampiric villain Drusilla.

It was announced last week that Sarah Michelle Gellar was working with Nora and Lilla Zuckerman (Poker Face) and Oscar-winning filmmaker Chloé Zhao on a new series set in the Buffy universe for Hulu, with Gellar expected to reprise her role as Buffy Summers in some capacity.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Sarah Michelle Gellar Teases the Original Cast Is 'All Aware' of the Reboot
Image
Buffy the Vampire Slayer first premiered as a feature film in 1992, starring Kristy Swanson as the titular character, as well as Luke Perry, David Arquette, and Hilary Swank, based on disgraced creator Joss Whedon's script. The film was not a hit, but Whedon later turned it into a TV series that premiered in 1997 starring Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy, David Boreanaz, Alyson Hannigan, Nicholas Brendon, and Anthony Head.

The series ran for seven seasons between 1997 and 2003, adding the spinoff show Angel in 1999, which premiered at the same time as Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 3. The series was canceled after five seasons, and a reboot for Buffy has been in talks since 2018, although Sarah Michelle Gellar said several times she was reluctant to return. A reboot is now officially in the works and, during the 2025 Critics' Choice Awards red carpet, the lead actress confirmed to E! News that all the...

The Buffy the Vampire Slayer Revival Is Excluding the Most Problematic Part of the Original
Image
Quick LinksBuffy Has Been a Source of Many AllegationsJoss Whedon Is Not Involved In the Upcoming ProjectFans Should Still Enjoy Buffy For Its Emotional Impact

Serialized television has been around for decades, but for many, it hit its peak with the 1997 cult classic Buffy the Vampire Slayer. In the burgeoning feminist movement of the '90s, the horror comedy series hit the sweet spot of cable television. A high school drama wrapped in the metaphors of monsters, Buffy was the first show to do a lot of things. Putting an unlikely hero to the forefront, Buffy Summers saves her Southern California town from vampires, demons, and the forces of darkness. It mixes the ever-popular monster of the week format with long-form storytelling that gets to the heart of what it means to be human.

Buffy stands the test of time and is a frequent source of nostalgia for many fans.

'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' Star Sarah Michelle Gellar Comments on New Series
Image
News of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer sequel series was met with both surprise and excitement among the series' massive fanbase. That surprise and excitement was then amplified when it was revealed that Sarah Michelle Gellar, who starred as the titular character for seven seasons, would be returning for the new series, which is nearing a pilot order at Hulu. The news has been published far and wide, but one person's comments were missing on the matter – until now. Gellar has taken to her social media to comment on the Buffy revival and, as it turns out, it has been years in the making.

Gellar posted an image on Instagram of herself from the Season 1 episode "Never Kill a Boy on the First Date" with the phrase, "If the apocalypse comes, beep me." This was followed by a fairly lengthy message in which she references theBuffy revival and how it came to be.

Sarah Michelle Gellar Originally Thought a ‘Buffy’ Reboot Shouldn’t Exist, but Now Promises Fans: ‘We’ll Only Make This Show If We Can Do It Right’
Image
Sarah Michelle Gellar recently took to her Instagram story to speak out for the first time on the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” reboot that currently has a pilot order at Hulu. “Buffy” fans have been divided on social media over whether or not a reboot is needed. News of the “Buffy” reboot broke on Feb. 3.

“So… you might have heard some news this week, but I realize you haven’t heard from me,” Gellar wrote to the fandom. “Three years ago, I got a call from my dear friend and mentor, Gail Berman. She told me that she wanted me to sit down with Chloé Zhao to hear her take on a potential ‘Buffy’ revival. I was blown away that Chloé even knew who I was, but, as I’ve always done, I told Gail that I just didn’t see a way for the show to exist again. We...

Why a ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Revival Is So Exciting — and So Terrifying
Image
On one level, the return of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” with Sarah Michelle Gellar — the news of which Variety broke today — is the most 2020s thing that could happen. Updating a beloved TV series from the last four decades with at least some of the original cast has become a central pillar of our current popular culture. From “And Just Like That” on Max to “That ’90s Show” on Netflix to “Star Trek: Picard,” “Frasier” and whatever new version of “Dexter” is streaming on Paramount+, we’re habitually invited now to live in updated versions of our TV pasts.

A new “Buffy,” however, feels more totemic. There are all the TV history reasons, of course: Dismissed when it premiered on the nascent network The WB in 1997 as a mid-season replacement, “Buffy” rapidly roundhouse kicked itself into the vanguard of both television form and content. By transforming the horror movie final...

Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot with Sarah Michelle Gellar close to happening
Image
Buffy the Vampire Slayer concluded in 2003 after seven seasons on the air, and remains a beloved and influential show to this day. There's been talk over the years of rebooting Buffy, with original series creator Joss Whedon working with showrunner Monica Owusu-Breen on a new show a while back. But that idea fizzled out a couple of years ago, probably because Whedon was accused of toxic behavior on his sets and has since been excommunicated from Hollywood.

But lately there have been signs of something stirring, with original series star Sarah Michelle Gellar coming around to the idea of a revival. “I always used to say no because it’s in its bubble, and it’s so perfect,” she said last month. "But watching [recent reboot shows] Sex And The City and seeing Dexter, and realizing there are ways to do it, definitely does get your mind thinking, ‘Well, maybe.'”

We have been hearing talks about a potential “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” reboot for many years now, but none of those potential projects ever came with the extra bonus of Sarah Michelle Gellar returning to the role. But something has changed on that front, with Deadline reporting that the actress is on board to return for a small screen revival over on Hulu!

The new take is being described as “the next chapter in the Buffyverse.”

Nora and Lilla Zuckerman (“Poker Face”) wrote the pilot. Deadline also notes in today’s report, “Beyond the pilot order, I hear the reboot is starting a writers room soon, a sign that Hulu and the studios have high expectations for the project going to series.

The days of controlling Iris (Sophie Thatcher) are over, and the critics love it. The first reviews for the new AI horror film Companion are beginning to pour in, and director Drew Hancock’s thought-provoking flick currently registers an impressive 96% on the Tomatometer with 23 reviews posted to Rotten Tomatoes. In fact, MovieWeb’s own review of Companion (4.5/5 stars) declares that “the first great film of 2025 stuns in every regard.”

Meagan Navarro of Bloody Disgusting didn't enjoy the sci-fi thriller quite as much (3.5/5 stars), but the writer openly praises the film’s actors: “It’s not the plot that keeps you guessing, but the vibrant ensemble cast committed to Hancock’s zany break-up movie.” Patrick Cavanaugh specifically singles out Thatcher’s performance as the jilted AI companion, Iris, in his review for ComicBook.com:

"[Companion] puts an entirely fresh spin on the well-worn ‘robot gains sentience’ premise, as Sophie Thatcher's empathetic Iris...

10 Best '90s Fantasy & Adventure Movies
Image
Since the days of cinema classics like Ben-Hur, fantasy movies have set the benchmark for quality, high-budget entertainment, as can be seen in iconic franchises like The Lord of the Rings. From focusing on heroes embarking on epic quests to reimaginings of beloved fairy tales, the 1990s gave audiences some of the most enjoyable entries in the genre, though with an emphasis on smaller budgets, comedy, and animation.

The 1990s saw something of a slump in fantasy cinema, as the '80s had no shortage of campy flops in the genre, but still remains a great decade for family-oriented adventure. From worlds populated by knights and dragons to reboots of classic Universal Monsters, the decade is practically synonymous with adventure. With many of these movies still household names for fantasy fans, it's worth remembering some of the best the '90s had to offer.

The opening sequence would slightly change throughout the series, incorporating clips from upcoming episodes. However, the core elements and iconic shots of the show remained the same. Fans of the series will note that the intro music also changed slightly post-Season 3.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer was an American teen horror drama about Buffy Summers, a young girl chosen to seek out and destroy vampires, demons, and other forces of darkness. Sarah Michelle Gellar starred as the iconic monster hunter herself. The series was based on the film of the same title, which starred Kristy Swanson. The series premiered in 1997 and ran for seven seasons.

10 Best Comic Book Movies Inspired by Pulp Classics
Image
The most influential movies today are based on superhero comics. However, before the era of caped and costumed heroes, there was the age of pulp magazines. Popular until the 1950s, these magazines featured a wide range of heroes, from adventurers to noir detectives to horror protagonists. Pulp heroes were, in many ways, the precursors to modern superheroes.

After the success of Tim Burton’s Batman, an influx of pulp-inspired movies emerged in the 1990s. This era appealed to an older generation nostalgic for simpler heroes, while also embracing the stylish aesthetics of the 1930s and 1940s. Pulp-inspired movies were simpler, less flashy, and often cheesier than today’s superhero blockbusters, yet they retained a unique charm.

Sarah Michelle Gellar Changes Her Mind on Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reboot
Image
Sarah Michelle Gellar has made an interesting discovery, and that discovery has led her to finally reconcile herself to the reality of a possible ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ return. It’s possible that seeing the fan reaction to the news of ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’s’ return has made her open up to the potential of having another ‘Buffy.’

Sarah Michelle Gellar Said No To ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Reboot Because the Original Show Was “Perfect”

When you have something special and beautiful, you wouldn’t want to ruin it or tire people out with it, right?

As a fan, there are movies and TV shows I wish was left alone when it ended, and there are others I wish constantly to come online to news of a sequel, a reboot or even a spinoff.

Sometimes, there are shows that we love that, on the one hand...

Sarah Michelle Gellar Changed Her Mind: She Might Be Down for a ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Reboot
Image
Sarah Michelle Gellar may have been opposed to a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot at one point, but she’s come around to the idea more recently.

The actress, who’s currently starring in Dexter: Original Sin, stopped by The Drew Barrymore Show on Friday, where the talk show host asked her if she had any thoughts on bringing her beloved series back in some capacity.

“It’s funny. I always used to say no, because it’s in its bubble, and it’s so perfect,” Gellar said. “But watching Sex and the City [sequel series, And Just Like That] and seeing Dexter, and realizing there are ways to do it, definitely does get your mind thinking, ‘Well, maybe.'”

And it doesn’t have to be a prequel. “It could be anything,” the actress said. “It’s a universe. And it makes you realize that in this world, we need those heroes, I think, more so than ever.

5 TV Shows Based On Movies That Surpassed The Source Material
Image
Trying to recapture the movie magic made by a beloved big-screen entry is always a risky game to play, but perhaps even more so when the new direction is television. Can a handful of episodes really deliver the same standard or even surpass what came before without staining the reputation of the property it's based on? Annoyingly, that is often the case, but there are a handful of television shows inspired by films that've actually surprised us in the best way by being not just good, but great even.

After they've gotten over the hurdles of winking at the audience with the world they've knowingly venturing into, some of the best films turned TV shows have been ones that have gone off and done their own thing. They don't go beat for beat with what's already been done before, but expand upon it by way of new characters, wild plot threads,...

Deadly Friend (1986) Revisited – Horror Movie Review
Image
I’d say we all have to acknowledge certain directors in the horror genre as undisputedly great. You can rank them however you like but there’s really no argument to be made against Wes, George, John, and Tobe leaving indelible marks on the genre we all love. So much so in fact that I didn’t even have to use their last names for you to know exactly who I’m referring to. While Carpenter is my favorite and I believe his run of quality is better than any of the others listed, Craven has more all-time classics. I’d say Craven has more stinkers too, but I think it’s that disparity that makes stuff like today’s film fall under the radar. While Deadly Friend isn’t as good as The Serpent and the Rainbow, The People Under the Stairs, or Red Eye, it’s certainly better than stuff like Swamp Thing,...

Children of the Vampire: Horror’s Many Returns to ‘Salem’s Lot’ Over the Years
Image
Warning: The following contains minor spoilers for various adaptations of Salem’s Lot.

In addition to character-driven novels and disturbing horror, Stephen King is known for writing folksy stories set in the rural Northeast. His bestselling It takes place in Derry, a close approximation to Bangor, Maine, and he’s been returning to Castle Rock, a town first introduced in his 1979 novel The Dead Zone, through forty years of bestselling horror.

But before both of these locations became literary institutions, there was Jerusalem’s Lot, a quaint Maine village with many dark secrets. For every kind and generous resident, there’s another sleeping with the phone repairman, peddling gossip over the register, or making lucrative real estate deals under the table. In his second novel, Salem’s Lot, King delights in uncovering the scandalous sins of this tiny burg before a powerful vampire enters the scene. Kurt Barlow and his familiar Richard Straker...

Married... with Children Stars Reveal The Shocking Way They Discovered the Show was Canceled
Image
Premiering in 1987, Married with Children broke television barriers by focusing on the dysfunctional Bundy household during an era when similar sitcoms took a more wholesome approach to the nuclear family. Lasting for 11 seasons on Fox, the series is still the longest-running live-action sitcom in the history of the network, which is somewhat surprising given the fact that it was never a huge success in the ratings (the highest it ever got was #37 overall during the 1991-1992 TV season). All good things must come to an end, though, and Married with Children was unceremoniously canceled in 1997, and two of its most popular stars, Ed ONeill and Christina Applegate, are opening up about how they found out the show wasnt returning for a 12th season.

Starring as Al Bundy in Married with Children, ONeill appeared on Applegates MeSsy podcast (via Entertainment Weekly) to catch up with his former co-star, who portrayed his daughter,...

Five Road Trip Horror Movies to Stream This Week
Image
Summer is winding to a close, though the blistering sun has not yet received the memo. That means the final days of vacationing or summer road trips are in order. Of course, horror has taught us the myriad of ways that the open road can induce abject terror and stress; flat tires are the least of your summer worries in horror.

Films like The Hitcher, Near Dark, and Splinter highlight how car troubles, creepy rest stops, and seedy motels don’t compare to humanity’s worst- human or otherwise- prowling the highways.

This week’s streaming picks are dedicated to road trip horror movies. These five titles exploit our travel anxieties by pitting their protagonists against vampires, cannibals, psychopaths, and the devil himself over vast stretches of highway.

Here’s where you can stream them this week.

Sarah Michelle Gellar Quotes Original Buffy Movie in Post With Christian Slater
Image
Sarah Michelle Gellar references the Buffy film, not TV series, with Christian Slater in a new Instagram post. The Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie was released in 1992, before the TV show became a hit. Gellar's new project, Dexter: Original Sin, places her with Christian Slater on screen.

Sarah Michelle Gellar had her own multiverse moment via an Instagram post featuring the actress and her Dexter: Original Sin co-star, Christian Slater. A photo-op provided Gellar with an opportunity to make a bit of a Buffy the Vampire Slayer call back, but not from the TV series that made her a huge star among genre fans.

Gellar took to her Instagram page to post a picture of herself and Slater during promotion of their show Dexter: Original Sin at San Diego Comic-Con. In the caption, the actress writes, "My 16 year old self is screaming "All I want to do is go to Europe,...

Billy Zane calls The Phantom “one of my favorite characters”
Image
The ghost who walks. The man who cannot die. That’s right – it’s Billy Zane! Well, The Phantom, but it sounds much cooler with Billy Zane directly attached. And he might not mind, either, considering it’s one of his favorite endeavors of his career.

Speaking with The A.V. Club, Billy Zane declared that Kit Walker aka The Phantom stands as “one of my favorite characters.” But the movie itself was a flop, with the June 7th, 1996 opening weekend finding it opening at #6, despite only one other title that week being a new release. As Zane remembered, “It got a lot of stick early on because it wasn’t edgy at a time when all those movies were going dark. I’ve always held a torch for what I saw as a dying genre, which was adventure. I was raised on adventure, and I think it’s so easily...

Let’s Rank the Quentin Tarantino Knockoffs of the ’90s
Image
Quentin Tarantino‘s 1994 sophomore feature Pulp Fiction wasn’t just a major break out hit. It changed the face of cinema in the 1990s, both by helping bring attention to indie and foreign films, and by inspiring a host imitators. When audiences lined up to watch Tarantino’s bloody, whip-smart movie, studios rushed to fill theaters and video stores with more stories about loquacious hitmen, monologuing bank robbers, and foul-mouthed gun molls.

In most cases, these knockoffs provided cheap thrills, heavy on the violence and pop-cultural references but low on Tarantino’s sense of composition and ear for unique dialogue. In the best cases, Pulp Fiction‘s success made way for other great movies to get made, oddball films ignored by the studios until Tarantino convinced them that they could make money.

Here are the fifteen best Pulp Fiction influenced movies of the 1990s, those that stand on their own...

How Buffy The Vampire Slayer Differs from the Original Movie
Image
Quick Links The Tones of the Film and the Series Contrast One Another Buffy isn't the Character Fans Know and Love in the Movie None of the Familiar Supporting Characters or Settings From the Series Are in the Movie The Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie is a cheesy horror film, not a supernatural melodrama like the show. Buffy only becomes the character fans of the series know by the end of the movie. Even still, there are some elements of the movie that the show nods to.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer has maintained a passionate fan following to this day because of its unforgettable cast and characters, its witty dialogue, its intense and dramatic storylines, and its steamy romances. It's hard to imagine that when the franchise began, it lacked all of these things. Before Buffy the Vampire Slayer was one of the most iconic and popular TV series of all time,...

Deadly Friend (1986) A Charming Horror Film by Wes Craven: Embracing that ’80s Scare (Already Touching on AI)
Image
Deadly Friend es una película de terror de 1986 dirigida por Wes Craven protagonizada por Matthew Labyorteaux y Kristy Swanson.

Today, we want to bring back the memories of this Wes Craven film (the same director behind Nightmare on Elm Street) that wasn’t necessarily good, nor did it possess an exceptional cinematic treatment: a limited script, a bit of blood, and a lot of hype.

Yet, something grabbed our attention: the concept of Artificial Intelligence was there, already in 1986.

Plot

A boy moves with his mother to a new neighborhood. Some own dogs, others cats, and some, a robot with a somewhat rudimentary AI implanted into it.

As it turns out, a very blonde and friendly neighbor girl approaches the boy, but unfortunately, ends up dead in an accident involving her father. The boy, already having feelings for her, decides to revive her by implanting the Cpu of the computer into her.

‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Doesn’t Need a Reboot — It Needs a Spin-off
Image
One of the multiple ways for a media franchise to prove its worth is having an everlasting quality. This has been the case for a certain Chosen One who slays vampires. Since its conception, Buffy the Vampire Slayer has seen life through multiple forms of media. Beginning as a critically-panned campy film starring Kristy Swanson, it somehow found further life as a lauded TV show. The series hit all the right notes, making Sarah Michelle Gellar a late 90s icon as Buffy Summers. Still, everything comes to an end, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s seventh season was the Scooby gang’s last outing. Reviving the show has always been a touchy subject – given its cult status – but the franchise has proved once again that it has much more to give.

The Award Winning Actress That Almost Played Buffy In Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Image
No one can play Buffy Summers, the girl chosen by fate to be a vampire Slayer, better than Sarah Michelle Gellar. She's not the only one who's tried though.

For starters, Gellar is actually the sophomore Slayer — Buffy was first played by Kristy Swanson in the original "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" movie from 1992 (that's been soundly displaced by the TV series in pop culture). For the TV series, Charisma Carpenter originally auditioned for Buffy, but ultimately played Queen Bee Cordelia Chase instead, the part that Gellar turned down. The whole point of Cordelia is that she's what Buffy was before she became the Slayer (an acerbic popular girl), so casting Gellar and Carpenter made sense. In another world, they could pull off each others' parts.

Carpenter wasn't the only runner-up to play Miss Summers. Back in 2001, when "Buffy" was still ongoing and sensation, Natasha Lyonne appeared on "The Howard Stern Show...

“Buffy” Revamp? Producer Dolly Parton Updates on Planned Revival of the Beloved TV Series
Sarah Michelle Gellar in Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997)
It’s now been over twenty years since the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” TV series came to an end, and though talks of a reboot have popped up from time to time in recent years, we still don’t seem to be any closer to the vampire slayer’s return. So what’s the latest on a potential “Buffy” reboot? We’ve got a mini little update courtesy of Dolly Parton this week.

Wait… why Dolly Parton?! Believe it or not, Parton was actually a producer on the original “Buffy” television series, making her the perfect person to reach out to for “Buffy” updates!

“They’re still working on that,” Parton told Business Insider in a new interview that was published this month. “They’re thinking about bringing it back and revamping it.”

First played by Kristy Swanson in the 1992 movie, Buffy Summers was most memorably portrayed by Sarah Michelle Gellar...

The Star That Joss Whedon Believes Caused The Buffy Movie To 'Fall Apart'
Image
In the wake of the highly influential series version of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," the 1992 movie of the same name gets a lot of undeserved flak. Many fans of "Buffy" the series find the film to be a little too cheeseball for their liking, and with "Buffy" creator Joss Whedon's extremely vocal dislike of how the film turned out, it's been easy for others to take a similar stance. As I've pointed out before in writing about the film, "Joss Whedon also famously hates the 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' movie, frequently citing his dislike of the changes director Fran Rubel Kuzui made during production. Odd, considering between Kuzui and Whedon, only one of the two has ever actually experienced life as a teen girl, but I digress."

However, Whedon has also been very vocal about another reason he feels the "Buffy" movie failed, placing blame on the...

‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Cast Reuniting for Spike-Focused Series
Image
The original cast members of the series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” are returning for an Audible original story, “Slayers: A Buffyverse Story,” set in the same world as the original show. The new story will focus on Spike (James Marsters) as the protagonist and premieres Oct. 12.

In addition to Marsters, returning cast members include Charisma Carpenter, Anthony Head, Juliet Landau, Emma Caulfield Ford, Amber Benson, James Charles Leary and Danny Strong.

The scripted original picks up 10 years after the events of the 2003 finale. Per the official description, “Since then, Spike (Marsters) has gone deep undercover in Los Angeles, convincing the forces of darkness that he’s back to his evil ways. When his cover is compromised by sixteen-year-old Indira Nunnally (Laya DeLeon Hayes), Spike finds himself on baby-slayer-sitting duty once more. While he attempts to track down a watcher for his eager new protégé, their paths collide with the veteran...
