The It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia Episode That Pays Homage To A Bruce Willis Movie
Image
The gang on "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" tends to view the world through the lens of pop culture, and that means there are a tremendous number of references to movies and TV shows throughout the series. Charlie (Charlie Day) has dressed up as Al Pacino's Frank Serpico from "Serpico," for example, and the whole gang made several "Lethal Weapon" sequels with some questionable choices (that led to the episodes being banned from streaming), so it's clear that movies are at the forefront of their minds. In season 3, we got one of the best tributes to a movie ever in the form of "The Gang Gets Held Hostage," which pays homage to the Bruce Willis-led action classic "Die Hard."

In "The Gang Gets Held Hostage," Dennis (Glenn Howerton), Dee (Kaitlin Olson), Mac (Rob McElhenney), and Charlie get held hostage by the McPoyles, members of a massive inbred family who attended...

Why Harriette Winslow Actress Jo Marie Payton Left Family Matters
Image
A spin-off from the classic ABC sitcom "Perfect Strangers," "Family Matters" didn't take long to captivate viewers, showcasing the hilarious day-to-day lives of Chicago cop Carl Winslow (Reginald VelJohnson), his wife Harriette (Jo Marie Payton), and the rest of their family. Along with shows such as "Full House" and "Step by Step," the sitcom was a reliable mainstay of ABC's "Tgif" lineup from 1989 to 1997. By 1998, though, the show had moved to CBS for its final season, and it had clearly seen better days; it had long felt like "the Steve Urkel show," with said breakout character (Jaleel White) pretty much overshadowing the "family" in "Family Matters." And it wasn't quite the same family anymore, as Judyann Elder replaced Payton in the role of Harriette for the show's last nine episodes.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly in 2017, Payton revealed why she made the decision to leave "Family Matters" after eight seasons and change playing the Winslow matriarch.

Roger Ebert Surprisingly Preferred 'Die Hard 2' Over the Original
Image
Die Hard has become a classic, for its thrilling action and because some consider it a Christmas movie. However, not everyone loved the movie upon its release, like film critic Roger Ebert, who had one major problem with the movie. Even more surprising, Ebert had glowing reviews for the next two films in the series, and likened the films to the James Bond movies.

Ebert Thought 'Die Hard 2' Did Action Well

Roger Ebert much preferred Die Hard 2: Die Harder over the original. He gave Die Hard 2 three-and-a-half stars out of four, compared to the two stars he gave Die Hard. To him, Die Hard 2 was "terrific entertainment," and a film that would have your date clutching your arm during some of the tenser moments. In his review, Ebert wrote:

"Die Hard 2 is as unlikely as the Bond pictures, and as much fun.

Family Matters Was A Spin-Off Of A Classic ABC Sitcom
Image
If you're a Millennial (especially of the elder variety), it's safe to say that you have some memory of "Family Matters" buried deep down in your psyche. Or perhaps it's not that deep down, and that's okay too. The 1990s-era sitcom was one of the biggest parts of ABC's famous "Tgif" lineup for most of the decade. Like shows such as "Full House" and "Step by Step," "Family Matters" was a lighthearted, low-stakes family sitcom about a big, rowdy family and the misadventures they got into. "Family Matters" was specifically set in Chicago and focused on the Winslow family along with their obnoxious neighbor Steve Urkel. Of course, Urkel very quickly became the biggest part of the show, vastly outshining the Winslow kids and often being paired with harried patriarch Carl.

In a way, it's kind of funny to think that "Family Matters" only became a big hit thanks in...

You’re Next: Adam Wingard & Simon Barrett tease the sequel they’re glad they never made
Image
You’re Next put a delightfully bloody spin on the home invasion genre, earning the film a passionate cult following that has only grown since its release in 2011. Although the ending of You’re Next did leave the door open for a sequel, a follow-up never materialized. However, that doesn’t mean that director Adam Wingard and writer Simon Barrett didn’t consider it.

In a new commentary track (via Bloody Disgusting) on the film’s new 4K Ultra HD Steelbook release, Wingard and Barrett detailed the sequel and explained why they’re glad they never made it.

“Originally, [the Lamb Mask killer] got decapitated in the script with his hand pinned to his head,” Barrett said. “But then we were like, ‘Ah, perfect opportunity, because this film’s gonna be a huge theatrical success, everyone’s telling us, so for You’re Next 2 we’ll just bring [L.C. Holt] back as the Lamb Mask killer.

A Classic ‘80s Comedy Is Being Re-Released Without Its Worst Joke
Image
The ‘80s were a weird time. Shoulder pads were everywhere, you couldn’t eat at McDonald’s without choking on cigarette smoke and Crocodile Dundee was a global sensation.

The original 1986 movie, a fish-out-of-water story about a leathery badass from the Australian Outback visiting New York City, made an absolutely shocking amount of money. Crocodile Dundee was the number two movie at the U.S. box office that year, behind only Top Gun. It made more than $116 million in 1986 dollars, clobbering beloved ‘80s classics like Aliens and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, and pulling in more than $174 million worldwide.

A 4K remastered version of Crocodile Dundee is going to be re-released in Australian theaters this spring, but the release, dubbed the “Encore Cut,” is quite a bit different from the original. According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Crocodile Dundee: The Encore Cut begins with text “acknowledging the traditional custodians of the land,...

Onslaught: Rebecca Hall joins Adam Wingard’s gonzo action horror thriller
Image
Director Adam Wingard and actress Rebecca Hall worked together on both Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire – but after making two giant monster movies in a row, Wingard decided he wanted to return to his roots with Onslaught, a project that is said to be in the vein of his cult classics The Guest and You’re Next. The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Hall is part of the Onslaught cast!

Hall will be starring in Onslaught alongside the previously announced Adria Arjona (Hit Man); Dan Stevens, who worked with Wingard on The Guest and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire; Drew Starkey (Outer Banks), Michael Biehn (The Terminator), Reginald VelJohnson (Die Hard...

‘Family Matters’ Star Reginald VelJohnson Denies Dave Chappelle’s ‘SNL’ Diddy Story
Image
Dave Chappelle concluded he must be ugly. It’s the only logical explanation, he joked last weekend during his Saturday Night Live monologue, as to why he was never invited to any of Diddy’s notorious freak-offs. “Can you imagine if you were me reading a newspaper and found out everyone in Hollywood had an orgy behind your back?” he laughed.

Chappelle relayed one story that really made him feel left out, even if he didn’t know if the rumor was true. “Some guy who said he knew Puffy was like, ‘Yeah, man. I was at the freak-off one time and I went in the back room and Puff was in there with Carl Winslow, the dad from Family Matters! He was smashing,’” the comedian said. “And I was like, ‘Oh my God. Carl Winslow from Family Matters was there and I wasn’t invited. It’s worse than I thought.

Aaron Paul, Simu Liu, and others join the cast of Invincible season 3
Image
The third season of Invincible premieres in just a couple weeks! Prime Video has thus far done a fantastic job adapting Robert Kirkman's vibrant superhero comic for the small screen. Part of that success can be chocked up to the incredible voice cast. Oscar nominee Steven Yuen plays Mark Grayson, aka Invincible, a teenager who's starting out into the exciting, violent world of superheroism. His father Omni-Man, the breakout character of the show, is played by gravel-voiced icon J. K. Simmons, and his mother Debbie by Emmy winner Sandra Oh. Other notable voices include Mark Hamill, Seth Rogen, Zachary Quinto, Walton Goggins, Zazie Beetz, Clancy Brown, Nicole Byer, Jason Mantzoukas, Jonathan Groff, Ben Schwartz, Sterling K. Brown and Family Matters' own Reginald VelJohnson.

It's an incredibly impressive cast for what at first glance might look like an updated version of the kinds of Saturday morning cartoons kids watched back in the day.

Bruce Willis Reveals Whether 'Die Hard' Is a Christmas Movie (He's Wrong)
Image
It's the question that has divided moviegoers for 36 years: Is Die Hard a Christmas film? Fans of the acclaimed Bruce Willis action flick return to Nakatomi Plaza every year, as John McClane (Willis) fights his way through Hans Gruber's (Alan Rickman) terrorist group to save his wife on Christmas Day. To some, the film's Christmas setting is enough for Die Hard to qualify. But, naysayers and all-round humbugs cry that the guns, explosions, and Bruce Willis looking badass in a vest aren't what Christmas is actually about — they've never been to Christmas with my family. Thankfully, the debate has been settled once and for all, as Bruce Willis himself has finally weighed in on the matter.

During the Roast of Bruce Willis (via @RealEmirHan on X) back in 2018, Bruce Willis closed the roast with a public service announcement about Die Hard. "Now please, listen very carefully," Willis began. The other guests,...

Bruce Willis made some unforgettable movie magic and completely changed the face of the action genre when he headlined the beloved 1988 blockbuster hit Die Hard, which famously followed NYPD detective extraordinaire John Mclane as he finds himself facing off against a nefarious group of terrorists on Christmas Eve. I Needed More From the 'Dancing With the Stars' Finale
Image
Season 33 of Dancing With The Stars was everything I had hoped for. We were introduced to a special group of people and couples this season of the dance competition series. Ilona Maher, Dwight Howard, and Reginald VelJohnson are some of the amazing contestants who stood out to me. The most wholesome friendships blossomed - such as Rylee Arnold and Ilona and Alan Bersten, and overall, this season brought life and joy back into this show. The only thing that was missing throughout the season was the big celebration when Joey Graziadei and Jenna Johnson were announced as the winners.

Aliens Star Michael Biehn Reveals That He Was Almost Cast As Tim Burton's Batman
Image
It seems Michael Biehn came very close to playing Batman in Tim Burton's 1989 film prior to Michael Keaton landing the role.

In a clip from the latest episode of his Just Foolin' Around podcast, the Terminator and Aliens star revealed that he had two meetings with Burton about potentially suiting-up as the Dark Knight in the hero's first big screen outing.

According to Biehn, Burton was considering two sets of actors at the time: himself as Batman alongside Robin Williams as the Joker, as well as Keaton and Jack Nicholson, who were ultimately cast.

We knew that Williams was in the mix to play the Clown Prince of Crime back in the day, but this is the first time we've heard Biehn's name mentioned in connection with the Caped Crusader. He certainly would have been an interesting choice for the character, but Keaton wasn't exactly seen as the most conventional pick either,...

Jaleel White claims Dancing With the Stars ‘exploited’ him, details explosive argument with Kym Johnson
Jaleel White, Host of Syfy's Total Blackout
Jaleel White shared new details about what caused him to reach a “breaking point” during Dancing With the Stars.

The actor, best known for playing Steve Urkel in the popular sitcom Family Matters, opened up in his new memoir about his experience on ABC.

White was the first actor from the sitcom to compete on the show. His co-star, Reginald VelJohnson, who played Carl Winslow, became the second when he appeared in DWTS Season 33.

VelJohnson became a sentimental fan-favorite, although many knew he would not win the competition against frontrunners, including Chandler Kinney or Joey Graziadei.

White indicated his time on DWTS Season 14 included producers expecting him to act goofy and funny like his TV character Urkel. In addition, he said they were “exploiting” his real-life -pain.

He also got into a heated altercation with his dance partner, Kym Johnson, which he spoke about in his new memoir, Growing Up Urkel.

Former Child Actor Jaleel White Had A Rough Time On DWTS

Jaleel White, widely known for his role as Steve Urkel on Family Matters, never really wanted to do Dancing With The Stars. But his manager pushed him to join Season 14 back in 2012. He and pro dancer Kym Johnson finished in 7th place out of 12 couples.

“He said it was a great opportunity- the show pays well and it would get my name back on prime time,” White wrote in his book. He immediately knew the producers wanted him to act goofy and ridiculous based on...

Jaleel White On Why He Shot Down Possible ‘Family Matters’ Reboot: “If It’s Just A Cash Grab … I’m Not Interested”
Image
Jaleel White played Steve Urkel in the ABC sitcom Family Matters for nine seasons, but don’t expect the actor to revisit the role if it’s just a “cash grab.”

In a new interview, White revealed that he shot down reprising his role of the annoying next-door neighbor in a possible reboot of the sitcom that was part of the Tgif block of programming.

“I embrace the Tgif legacy, but I’m also careful to acknowledge that Tgif was a sinking ship, and you cannot make shows like that right now,” White said on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live. “I feel like [Fuller House] got away with it because they have a schmaltzy, kind of vanilla thing that they do that’s very Hallmarkish to be quite honest and it benefits Candace [Cameron Bure] and that’s wonderful, but I just didn’t feel like we could get away with that same brand of humor.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, Biehn has joined the cast of the A24 movie Onslaught directed by Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire's Adam Wingard. Quentin Tarantino Defends Bruce Willis' Late-Career Action Movies
Image
Bruce Willis might be known for such action hits as Die Hard, Armageddon, The Fifth Element, and The Expendables, but sadly, as his health declined, he appeared in a number of low-budget movies that some say tarnished his legacy. Not Quentin Tarantino, however, who recently defended Willis decision to nab a few quick paychecks shortly before word broke that hed been diagnosed with aphasia, going so far as to say he was "really impressed" by the films.

Speaking on his Video Archives Podcast, Tarantrino admitted to watching at least six of the direct-to-video flicks, including Vice (2015), Trauma Center (2019), and Deadlock (2021), calling them "very easy to watch" and "entertaining." The Pulp Fiction director also said he doesnt see what critics see, and praised Willis performances.

"These movies that hes been making for these companies have really gone under fire in a really big way, and theres been these kinds of expose...

However, the stars of these reality TV shows have competed with varying degrees of success.

Of course, fans have their favorites now, rallying behind their favorite Olympians, reality stars, and even convicts.

As Season 33 of ABC's reality dance competition show heats up, and more celebrity contestants are eliminated each week, the remaining nine celebrities have to make an impression on fans, and what better way to do it than by offering up their dance to someone who has had a huge impact on their lives? It can make for an emotional evening.

Speaking of emotional, judge Derek Hough and his wife, dancer Hayley Erbert, will also be performing tonight. The couple will do a dance in honor of the medical emergency Hayley suffered last year. DWTS Says Goodbye To Another Couple On Dedication Night
