Tim Burton has long been regarded as one of Hollywood's most visually distinctive filmmakers, so it only stands to reason that audiences would want — nay, deserve — to see his works in the highest possible resolution. Well, Burton fans, we've got some great news on that front: One of his most well-received fantasies is returning to store shelves with a 4K Uhd remaster, timed to celebrate the film's 20th anniversary.
We're talking, of course, about The Corpse Bride, the stop-motion animated effort that paired Johnny Depp (as Victor Van Dort) and Helena Bonham Carter (as the titular undead betrothed) in an unorthodox love triangle with Emily Watson. Although the film marked Burton's first official foray into stop-motion, he'd dabbled before by producing The Nightmare Before Christmas in 1993 and James and the Giant Peach three years later.
Although The Corpse Bride was generally well-received by critics — it's currently at 84 percent on the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes,...

Contrary to internet speculation, AI is not responsible for the saucer-eyed, blue-furred, adorably simian attractions of The Legend Of Ochi. No, these are creatures of an older age — that is, the practical-effects heyday of the 1980s, when people still built monsters from elbow grease instead of ones and zeroes. Moving to movies years after conjuring the weird menagerie of Björk’s ‘Wanderlust’ video, director Isaiah Saxon deploys old-school animatronics and puppetry to breathe life into his beasts of the Romanian wild, which roam the woods surrounding a sleepy island village on the Black Sea. The Ochi are charmingly bespoke — and so, on a purely cosmetic level, is everything else in this quirky and vibrantly shot A24 family film. Hey, sometimes they do (hand)make ’em like they used to!
If only Saxon crafted his storybook story as carefully. It feels cobbled together in a less inventive way, like a rummage...

In a film world dominated by glossy CGI effects, The Legend of Ochi stands out. It’s a refreshing film, carefully made with a passion for old-school fantasy. Isaiah Saxon’s debut feature is a marvel of visual design, a children’s fantasy that evokes the tactile charm of 1980s classics while refusing to become a slave to nostalgia.
The story takes place in Carpathia, a fictional island in the Black Sea. It’s a magical place with thick forests and ancient traditions, but also modern touches like cars, supermarkets and television sets. Children on the island are taught to fight against the Ochi, mysterious creatures they believe to be monsters. But when young Yuri (Helena Zengel), whose father Maxim (Willem Dafoe) leads the militia, finds a baby Ochi, she discovers that fear and truth rarely walk hand in hand.
Much has already been said of the film’s practical artistry,...

If there’s one surefire thing when it comes to genre filmmaking, it’s serial killers. For better or worse, the public remains uniquely fascinated with the most heinous, depraved minds around. Since the days of Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho, serial killers have featured prominently in film and television, and I don’t anticipate that ever really slowing down. There are some real gems, especially recently. Woman of the Hour was one of last year’s best, and I recently spotlighted the fictional (and deeply upsetting) serial killer at the center of Lars von Trier’s The House That Jack Built.
Recently, there’s been renewed interest in one serial killer in particular—Fred West. West, alongside his wife, Rose West, were English serial killers who committed an estimated 12 murders between 1967 and 1987. Upon their arrest, Fred West was charged with 11 counts, and Rose with eight. They were heinous, horrifying crimes,...

On July 25, It's time to head back to the links — and the 1990s — with Adam Sandler. The star is picking up his golf clubs again for Netflix's Happy Gilmore 2, a belated follow-up to the 1996 golf comedy that propelled him onto Hollywood's comedy A-list. It's the first time that Sandler has revisited one of those vintage comedies; to date, his only live-action sequels to previous successes have been Grown-Ups 2 and Murder Mystery 2.
Interestingly, Happy Gilmore 2 is arriving on Netflix one month ahead of Sandler's latest seriocomic turn; the actor will be starring alongside George Clooney in Noah Baumbach's Venice-bound feature Jay Kelly. And the two actors will likely be joined at the hip throughout awards season as Clooney positions himself for his first Best Actor nomination since The Descendants way back in 2013. (He won a Best Supporting Actor statuette in 2007 for Syriana.)

Everyone praised the movie and its actress’ performance, and it could have possibly changed Carter’s trajectory if she had accepted the role. The actress did eventually become successful, but the taste of this win would have likely brought more opportunities early on in her career. “My complicated relationship with Bergman has to do with him not being a very nice guy. He was a nice director, but you can still denounce a person as an asshole. Caravaggio was probably an asshole as well, but he did great paintings,” said the Swedish actor.
“Bergman was manipulative. He was a Nazi during the war and the only person I know who cried when Hitler died. We kept excusing him, but I have a feeling he had a very weird outlook on other people. [He thought] some people were not worthy. You felt it, when he was manipulating others. He wasn’t nice.”
Skarsgård, in town to present “Sentimental Value” and pick up Crystal Globe award at the festival, also discussed Joachim Trier’s latest film.
“I’ve seen him really see the actors he’s worked with.

While director Tim Burton is best known for live-action films like Beetlejuiceand Batman, the filmmaker has more than a few killer animated features under his sinister belt. The one that often gets talked about is The Nightmare Before Christmas – a film which he didn't even direct. However, out of the stop-motion animation classics he did indeed direct, Corpse Bride is arguably his most celebrated in that artful category. Now, in honor of the film’s 20th anniversary, Corpse Bride is finally coming to 4K Blu-ray.
Warner Bros. will be releasing Corpse Bride via a 4K/Digital combo pack steelbook. While the spooky edition doesn't have a release date yet, there is cover art to admire. The outside is simply the film’s logo on a black background, but the inside artwork is more defined. The inner workings of the steelbook feature Emily, aka the “corpse bride,” with a few of the eerie underworld residents.

Cillian Murphy’s acting career has spanned nearly three decades and is still going strong. Over these years, he has played pretty much everything, from being a villain to being the Father of the Atomic Bomb in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer; he has built a career as diverse as it could be.
Along the way, he has won several accolades and awards, including an Academy Award in 2024 for Best Actor. However, he is not done yet because Netflix has dropped the first look of his new and exciting project, Steve, taking place in the mid-90s, and it looks like the Red Eye actor has already cut out work for himself.
Surprisingly, fans are already thrilled as they get their hands on the first look of the movie, as Murphy adds depth with a single look.

Netflix has released a first look at Cillian Murphy in Steve, adapted by Max Porter from his bestselling novella Shy.
Off the back of Porter’s Berlinale debut The Thing With Feathers, Oscar-winning Murphy stars as a headteacher in the Tim Mielants-directed Steve. The image released Tuesday shows him holding a tennis ball while leant against a blackboard.
The movie, set to release in October, follows a day in the life with Steve and his students at a last-chance reform school amidst a world that has forsaken them.
“As Steve fights to protect the school’s integrity and impending closure,” a plot synopsis reads, “we witness him grappling with his own mental health. In parallel to Steve’s struggles, we meet Shy (Jay Lycurgo), a troubled teen caught between his past and what lies ahead as he tries to reconcile his inner fragility with his impulse for self-destruction and violence.

Netflix’s movies – to me, anyway – always fall neatly into two categories. There are the big audience blockbusters, such as The Electric State, Carry-On, and the upcoming The Old Guard 2 and Happy Gilmore 2, and then there’s the prestige fare. Sometimes the two categories meet, such as with the Knives Out movies, but for the most part, they are distinct. As much as some of their blockbusters seem to vanish into the ether of streaming, they’ve also bankrolled some intriguing prestige fare that rank among the most acclaimed films of our era, such as Roma, Marriage Story, The Irishman, and many others. After a quiet 2024 that saw them throw all their eggs into the Emilia Perez basket, the streamer is back with a bumper crop of awards fare this year, including Noah Baumbach’s Jay Kelly, Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, and more.

[Editor’s note: The following interview contains spoilers for Season 1 of “Dune: Prophecy.”]
It wasn’t enough for Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros. to mount three big-budget spectacles directed by Denis Villeneuve based on Frank Herbert’s classic “Dune” series. The studios also teamed up with HBO to produce the TV series “Dune: Prophecy.”
Executive produced by Diane Ademu-John and showrunner Alison Schapker, the show also takes place on a massive scale. The veteran who carries the six-episode series (which starts production on a second season this summer) is Emily Watson, a British character actress who broke out back in 1997 with a Best Actress Oscar nomination for Lars von Trier’s “Breaking the Waves.”
With 28 years of rich work behind her since then, Watson emerges in a powerful role as Valya Harkonnen, the ruthless, driving Mother Superior of the Sisterhood, an early precursor to the mighty Bene Gesserit. She and her black-veiled minions run the universe, wielding their dark arts behind the scenes.

HBO's Dune prequel series Dune: Prophecy was filled with enough secrets and plot twists to do a Bene Gesserit proud, but according to showrunner Alison Schapker, one of the show's biggest reveals was teased right from the start.
Schapker was part of a recent FYC panel to talk up Dune: Prophecy ahead of the Emmys, along with Emily Watson (Valya Harkonnen), Olivia Williams (Tula Harkonnen), Travis Fimmel (Desmond Hart), producer Jordan Goldberg, costume designer Bojana Nikitović, production designer Tom Meyer, and VFX supervisor Michael Enriquez. Variety has published a report of some of the biggest moments from the panel, including Schapker's tease about a hidden Easter egg that hints at the identity of Desmond Hart in his very first appearance in the show.
Late in the series, it's revealed that Hart is none other than the son of Tula Harkonnen, who had a love affair with a member of House Atreides as a young woman.

“Dune: Prophecy” spoiler alert incoming! Desmond Hart (Travis Fimmel), the warrior, is Tula Harkonnen’s (Olivia Williams) secret son, and is half Harkonnen and half Atreides.
But there were hidden hints revealing his identity from the get-go.
Showrunner Alison Schapker was speaking at the show’s FYC and revealed how there had been an Easter egg from the beginning, and it would be the very thing that connects him to his mother, and audiences finally learn who he is. The first season of Dune: Prophecy led to a revelation that redefined HBO series core relationship and shed new light on the origin of its central villain.
Throughout the first six episodes of the series, which was renewed for a second season at the end of last year, viewers watched a Tula Harkonnen (Olivia Williams), dedicated member of the Sisterhood and literal sister to Valya (Emily Watson), played surrogate mother to the young acolytes of her order.
And there was a very good reason for that.
Toward the end of the season, a flashback revealed that not only did Tula give birth to the child of a Atreides, but the fire-wielding Desmond Hart (Travis Fimmel) was that baby.
The two were eventually reunited, but under terrible conditions. Hart ordered Tula's arrest, no doubt setting up more confrontation in Season 2.

Dune: Prophecy brought Frank Herbert's sci-fi universe back to television screens, but explored a corner of the mythos previously unseen. Working from Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson's Great Houses of Dune, set 10,000 years before the events of the Denis Villeneuve-directed movies, showrunner Alison Schapker dove into the blood and deception that would form the foundation of the secretive and powerful Bene Gesserit.

In its first season, Dune: Prophecy explored the Imperium and the foundations of the Sisterhood that would become the powerful Bene Gesserit 10,000 years before the birth of Paul Atreides.

Set in the same universe as Denis Villeneuve's Oscar-winning movie franchise, Dune: Prophecyis a prequel series that aired on HBO and Max last year to generally positive reviews. The network moved quickly to renew the epic action series for Season 2 before the finale, and it seems the big-budget production will begin rolling cameras sooner rather than later. During an interview with Collider, Dune: Prophecy star Josh Heuston, who portrays Constantine Corrino in the show, revealed that Season 2 will begin filming this August and continue until the end of the year. There is no release date yet, but fans can probably expect the show to return on HBO and Max sometime in 2026. For reference, the first season took...

Dune: Prophecy wrapped up its first season before Christmas last year, and the show was renewed for Season 2 mere days before the episode premiered on Max. Details about the second season of Dune: Prophecy have been sparse, as Max is playing things close to the vest when it comes to revealing new details to the public. Collider’s Steve Weintraub had the chance to chat with Josh Heuston, who plays Constantine Corrino in the series, while Heuston was promoting his upcoming project, Dangerous Animals. While refraining from using the Voice to get any new information, Weintraub asked Heuston if he was in Season 2, and he didn’t hold back on confirming his status and even revealing when the next installment would begin filming:
