‘Chicago Fire’: Michael Bradway Not Returning for Season 14
Image
Is Firehouse 51 about to have at least a few floaters or go down to those two-person trucks like showrunner Andrea Newman told TV Insider was a real thing at the end of Season 13? Michael Bradway will not be back in Chicago Fire Season 14, according to Soaps.com. He’s part of the cast of the Every Summer After adaptation coming to Prime Video. The outlet reports, however, that the door is open for him to return depending on schedules. Bradway recurred on the NBC firefighter drama for two seasons as firefighter Jack Damon. It was in the Season 12 finale that he revealed the Lieutenant Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) that he’s his half-brother, after a call involving a tough father-son relationship: Benny (Treat Williams) was his father. While Damon got off to a rough start with 51 in general, things got better after he moved to another firehouse and ran into trouble.

7 TV Shows The Summer I Turned Pretty May’ve Copied
Image
Jenny Han’s books have turned out to be phenomenal successes when it comes to their live-action adaptation. While the live-action adaptation of her To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before has turned out to be pretty famous on Netflix, The Summer I Turned Pretty series on Prime Video has achieved similar reception.

One of her most famous books, the teen show is a perfect watch for those who adore love-triangles set against the backdrop of nostalgic summer settings. With its last and third season about to release, fans will be saying goodbye to Belly Conklin and brothers Conrad and Jeremiah Fisher.

However, while the coming-of-age drama is one of a kind, fans have noticed that the Young Adult trilogy, be it the series or the original books, shares several similarities with other television shows. Since its 2022 debut, many have noted similarities to other teen dramas, particularly in its romantic tropes,...

5 Blue Bloods characters we'd love to see appear on Boston Blue
Image
With Boston Blue due to bring back the character of Danny Reagan, fans of the original Blue Bloods series would love to see other characters from the original show make an appearance. This new show will follow Danny in what is called an “expansion” of the universe surrounding the series as he moves to Boston to work for the police department.

The series will follow Danny and a new law enforcement family: the Silver family. Lena Silver is his detective partner; her mother, Mae, is a District Attorney; her stepsister, Sarah, is the Superintendent of the Police Department; and her younger brother, Jonah, works as a rookie cop.

The roles within the family are similar to those of Danny’s family, who are likely still in New York, doing their own thing while going to weekly Sunday dinners. But who would we love to see make an appearance, whether family or someone Danny worked with?...

Bob Dylan
Smooth Talk (1985) Movie Review: Caught Between Girlhood and Danger
Bob Dylan
“Forget the dead you’ve left, they will not follow you

The vagabond who’s rapping at your door

Is standing in the clothes that you once wore

Strike another match, go start anew

And it’s all over now, Baby Blue”

“It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue,” Bob Dylan

Joyce Carol Oates said that she was inspired to write her short story “Where Are You Going To, Where Have You Been?” (which she dedicated to Dylan) after listening to the above song. In 1985, screenwriter Tom Cole adapted it into the movie “Smooth Talk,” which was directed by his wife Joyce Chopra.

Dripping with atmosphere, rarely has a film so perfectly captured the feeling of being a teenager during a hot, sticky summer when you want to be older than you are but don’t want the consequences that come with it. “Smooth Talk” follows 15-year-old Connie (a perfectly...

Slam evil! The Phantom appears on 4K Blu-ray later this year
Image
In the wake of Batman and its hit sequels, interestingly, movie studios wouldn’t necessarily snatch up more DC properties to adapt, but they did attempt to bring more classic pulp heroes to the screen with The Rocketeer, The Shadow and 1996’s The Phantom. While there was an animated series just two years prior with the purple-clad character trying to save our dying planet in the future with The Phantom 2040, the feature film with Billy Zane takes its cue more from Indiana Jones-esque action with its 1930s setting and globe-trotting adventure.

Blu-ray.com has reported that the Paramount adaptation of the Lee Falk comic strip is now set to grace your TV screens in crisp ultra-high def 4K with a new Blu-ray from Kino Lorber. The new physical release of the Simon Wincer film, which stars Billy Zane, Kristy Swanson, Treat Williams, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and James Remar, is scheduled to...

From ‘Parkland’ to ‘Jackie’: 9 Best Movies on JFK Assassination
Image
November 22, 1963, is one of the darkest days in the history of America. It was the day when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated, and the tragedy altered the course of U.S. and world history and changed the American political landscape. His death in Dallas has generated many official investigations as well as serious public debates about the actual events of that day.

The official account that accuses lone gunman Lee Harvey Oswald of the assassination still remains in doubt. Even the U.S. House Select Committee on Assassinations believed that Kennedy was likely killed as a result of a conspiracy involving multiple shooters. Research documents about the death remain classified decades after the event, leading to constant public curiosity about the JFK assassination.

Many films have been made to explore the assassination through various perspectives, including historical treatments and science fiction alternative narratives. These movies analyze both the Kennedy...

The Phantom – Why This Pulp Comic Book Movie Deserves Better
Joel Schumacher at an event for Tigerland (2000)
In the nineties, Hollywood still hadn’t quite figured out how to make superhero movies. Sure, the Batman films were successful, but they were divisive among comic book fans, especially once the Joel Schumacher films, with their bat nipples, hit theaters. With big superhero properties mostly tied up in legal limbo, Hollywood studios started looking at the pulp heroes of the thirties, hoping to make their next huge superhero franchise. The Phantom, which came out in 1996, was one such film.

On the surface, this idea makes a certain amount of sense. The Indiana Jones movies were highly inspired by pulp novels and broke box office records. The first attempt to make this kind of movie was Universal’s The Shadow in 1994, but it didn’t do as well as expected. Still, Paramount had high hopes for The Phantom, which would be based on Lee Falk’s comic book strip. To...

Chicago Fire deaths in order: Every major character who has died in the show
Image
Chicago Fire puts characters in danger on a weekly basis. We see firefighters and medics putting their lives on the line to protect others. Unfortunately, it doesn't always end well. There have been several deaths over the course of the show's 13 seasons. Some of which, we are still reeling from.

In an effort to celebrate, grieve, and simply remember the Chicago Fire characters who have fallen, we decided to compile a list of every major death that has occurred, from the pilot to the present. It gets a little bleak, but such are the risks of the job. Our one rule is that the character in question had to have worked as a firefighter/medic.

'Humiliating and Terrible': 28 Years Later, It's Always Sunny Star Recalls Getting Cut From Feature Film Debut
Image
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Rob McElhenney has obviously found great success as one of the stars of his hit FX sitcom. However, he still feels the sting of getting axed from his first feature film role.

McElhenney recently discussed his career for a new interview on the Hot Ones interview show. He reflected on how he'd been cast for a role in the 1997 film The Devil's Own, which co-starred the A-list actors Harrison Ford and Leonardo DiCaprio. Because it was McElhenney's first acting role in a movie, he was especially excited to be a part of it. As the actor has now explained, that made it all the more painful when he learned that his part in the film had been squashed.

Scott Wolf Looks Back on ‘Everwood’ & Working With Treat Williams

Right now, Scott Wolf is on our screens as a doctor on the new Fox drama Doc — and he’s hiding quite the secret — but it’s far from the first drama he played a medical professional. Eleven years ago, he starred as Dr. Jake Hartman on Everwood, which ran four seasons (ending in 2006). When TV Insider recently spoke with Wolf, we had to ask him about his time on that teen drama. “Everwood was a really wonderful experience. Moved my wife and I to Utah, where we still live. Was my first doctor role,” he recalled. “I’ve now played four. Some amazing people on that show. Treat Williams, rest his soul, Chris Pratt, Greg Smith, Emily VanCamp, just like a beautiful cast of actors.” He recalled it begin the first regular role he did after Party of Five (1994-2000); he had guest spots on Spin City and TV movies in between.

10 Best '90s Fantasy & Adventure Movies
Image
Since the days of cinema classics like Ben-Hur, fantasy movies have set the benchmark for quality, high-budget entertainment, as can be seen in iconic franchises like The Lord of the Rings. From focusing on heroes embarking on epic quests to reimaginings of beloved fairy tales, the 1990s gave audiences some of the most enjoyable entries in the genre, though with an emphasis on smaller budgets, comedy, and animation.

The 1990s saw something of a slump in fantasy cinema, as the '80s had no shortage of campy flops in the genre, but still remains a great decade for family-oriented adventure. From worlds populated by knights and dragons to reboots of classic Universal Monsters, the decade is practically synonymous with adventure. With many of these movies still household names for fantasy fans, it's worth remembering some of the best the '90s had to offer.

10 Best Comic Book Movies Inspired by Pulp Classics
Image
The most influential movies today are based on superhero comics. However, before the era of caped and costumed heroes, there was the age of pulp magazines. Popular until the 1950s, these magazines featured a wide range of heroes, from adventurers to noir detectives to horror protagonists. Pulp heroes were, in many ways, the precursors to modern superheroes.

After the success of Tim Burton’s Batman, an influx of pulp-inspired movies emerged in the 1990s. This era appealed to an older generation nostalgic for simpler heroes, while also embracing the stylish aesthetics of the 1930s and 1940s. Pulp-inspired movies were simpler, less flashy, and often cheesier than today’s superhero blockbusters, yet they retained a unique charm.

Donnie Wahlberg reveals why he cried during final Blue Bloods dinner scene

Donnie Wahlberg loves him some Blue Bloods. He's never been shy about his fandom for the show, nor the impact that it's had on his life. Danny Reagan will go down as Wahlberg's defining role, and he is understandably sad to see the show come to an end.

Blue Bloods is perhaps best known for its family dinner scenes, so emotions were always going to be high during the filming of the final dinner. Wahlberg recounted the experience during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. He claimed that he was able to keep it together for the bulk of filming, but it was a gesture by co-star Tom Selleck that led to the emotions spilling out.

Severide's Chicago Fire family tree explained (including Jack Damon)
Image
Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) is the closest thing Chicago Fire has to a main character. His presence hasn't been as consistent in recent years, but his presence is still very much felt whenever the iconic One Chicago firefighter is onscreen.

Kelly positioned himself as a loner early on in the show, but the longer Chicago Fire has worn on, the more we've learned about his family. It could be argued that we know more about his family than any other character on the show, in fact. We're still meeting new members of his family, so we felt it would be beneficial to run through his family tree and give fans a refresher of who is who.

Benny Severide (father)

Let's start with Benny Severide (Treat Williams). Kelly's father was a Chicago firefighter who served alongside veterans like Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker) and Henry Mills. He was fearless in the field,...

Chicago Fire is always good for a cliffhanger. If you ask fans what their favorite season finale, you'd likely get several different answers, which is a testament to the show's ability to keep fans guessing. The season 12 finale was no different. In the finale's closing moments, Fire revealed that Severide (Taylor Kinney) has a younger brother named Jack Damon (Michael Bradway).

It was a twist that not only explained some of Damon's odd behavior in the previous episodes, but set up a fascinating new dynamic for Severide. The man who struggled to live down the legacy of his dad, Benny (Treat Williams) was being faced with a half sibling who was struggling to live up to his legacy as a firefighter.

Chicago Fire winter premiere promo hints at potential danger for Pascal
Image
Chief Dom Pascal (Dermot Mulroney) is still getting acclaimed at Firehouse 51. The newcomer has yet to completely gel with his team, but strides have been made, and veteran members have recognized his good intentions. What remains to be seen, though, is how long Pascal will stick around.

The promo for Chicago Fire winter premiere dropped shortly after the fall finale on Wednesday. It didn't give too much away in terms of plot, but it did place emphasis on Pascal and his leadership. The 51 Chief can be seen giving his team a pep talk before they enter a burning building. Pascal can even be seen leading the charge at the tail end of the promo.

Chief Pascal could potentially be in danger

This got us to wondering. The promo suggests that the blaze gets hectic at one point, and that the lives of those in the building get placed in harm's way.

This Steven Spielberg Directed-Critical Flop Is Actually A Chaotic Comedy Masterpiece
Image
Steven Spielberg was playing with house money as he prepared to make his fifth feature. His previous two films, "Jaws" and "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," had combined to gross the 2024 equivalent of $4.4 billion. He could've gotten a shot-for-shot remake of "Andrei Rublev" greenlit if he'd pressed the issue. He also could've hedged his bets and directed "Jaws 2." Whatever he made next, he was going to make it wholly on his own terms.

Spielberg turned that house money into f***-you money, and shot an anarchic comedy that's like watching the richest kid in town craft an immaculate model train set over the course of months, mainline Jolt Cola for a day, and lay complete and total waste to his creation in a shade under two hours.

"1941" is a madcap movie about reckless and irresponsible Americans who've gone wild over an impending Japanese sneak attack on the shores of California.

Resolving The Unresolvable: How Can Blue Bloods Address The Lingering Grief Over Joe Reagan’s Death As The Series Wraps Up?
Image
There’s one Blue Bloods story that can never be resolved.

Joe Reagan’s death has cast a shadow over the Reagan family for as long as we’ve known them, and with good reason.

Frank’s beloved son was murdered by one of his fellow cops. There’s no way to really get over that, yet Blue Bloods must find some sort of resolution to the family’s grief as the series ends.

(CBS/John Paul Filo) How Joe Reagan’s Death Occurred on Blue Bloods

Joe’s death occurred shortly before the events of Blue Bloods Season 1, and the family spent much of the first season trying to find out the details of how he died, only to discover that knowing the facts didn’t make them feel any better.

After a season-long investigation, things came to a head when the same group that killed Joe threatened Jamie.

An Incomplete History of Film Independent, Part One: The First 20 Years (1984-2004)
Image
Late in filmmaker Gregory Nava’s harrowing 1983 immigration drama El Norte, Guatemalan refugee Rosa (Zaide Silvia Gutiérrez) lays ailing in a Los Angeles hospital, ravaged by a fatal case of typhus acquired crawling through the rat-infested sewers underneath the Mexican-American border. Sadly resigned to her own death, she turns to her equally ill-fated brother Enrique (David Villalpando) to ask: “When will we find a home, Enrique? Maybe when we die?”–a blunt, heartbreaking moment among many.

But even setting aside the Guatemalan Civil War whose harsh realities provide El Norte its backdrop so too could Rosa’s mournful question could just as easily be asked in relation to the state of independent film in the Americas by the time of El Norte’s world premiere at the 1983 edition of the Telluride Film Festival.

After spending the bulk of the 1970s drinking and producing a series of increasingly unreleasable masterpieces, indie film pioneer John Cassavetes was,...

One of Gene Siskel's Favorite Movies Comes to Streaming in November
Image
Once Upon a Time in America, the epic period drama starring Robert De Niro in one of his most iconic mobster roles, is finally coming to Paramount+ on November 1, 2024. The film, released in 1984, was a critical and commercial failure in the United States, grossing a meager $5.5 million on a $30 million budget, but has since been acclaimed.

It was directed and co-written by Spaghetti Western legend Sergio Leone, best known for A Fistful of Dollars (1964), Once Upon a Time in the West (1968), and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966). The film, which also stars James Woods, Elizabeth McGovern, Treat Williams, and Burt Young, has one of the longest runtimes in cinema.

The initial runtime of Once Upon a Time in America was 269 minutes, but it was reduced to 251 minutes during its screening at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. However, the standard runtime was eventually brought down to 229 minutes, while the American...

The movie starring Robert De Niro in what may be one of his finest mobster roles is coming to Paramount+. Once Upon a Time in America will begin streaming on the platform starting November 1, 2024. The 1984 gangster drama was directed by the late Sergio Leone, who wrote such iconic films as A Fistful of Dollars (1964) and Once Upon a Time in the West (1968).

Benny Severide Continues To Sabotage Kelly's Life In Chicago Fire Season 13, 6 Years After His Death
Image
It's no secret that Kelly Severide didn't have the best relationship with his father, Benny, in Chicago Fire, but one would think Benny would stop haunting Severide's life after his death. Unfortunately, for Severide, someone showed up at Firehouse 51 during season 12 who makes it impossible for Benny to quit sabotaging him Jack Damon, Benny's son and Severide's half-brother. Damon is the brother who Severide never thought he had. While exciting at first, Damon is proving to be more of a nuisance for Severide in Chicago Fire season 13 than an asset and confidant.

Benny, played by Treat Williams, died in Chicago Fire season 7, episode 6, "All the Proof," which aired in October 2018. However, Williams' last appearance was in episode 5, "A Volatile Mixture." During episode 6, Severide and Damon's father suffered a stroke and died. Despite Benny's absence from the NBC procedural drama TV show, Severide can't seem to shake his father and his past,...

Terence Winter Wanted His Scrapped Gotham City Pd Series to Feel Like Sidney Lumet’s ‘Prince of the City’
Image
Turns out “The Penguin” wasn’t the only spin-off of “The Batman” Matt Reeves wanted to bring to TV. In addition to the Arkham Asylum project developed by Antonio Campos and later shelved, “Boardwalk Empire” creator and “Tulsa King” showrunner Terence Winter also had plans on collaborating with Reeves on a series focusing around Gotham City Police Department. A similar series called “Gotham” starring Ben Mackenzie as a pre-Lieutenant Jim Gordan ran on Fox for five seasons, but in a recent interview on The Playlist’s “Bingeworthy” podcast, Winter said his version would have had a period element that set it apart.

“The idea was that we were going to do a 1970s cop show — something that felt like [Sidney Lumet’s 1981 crime drama] ‘Prince of the City,’ but in the Gotham City Police Department,” Winter said. “It was going to have that [‘70s] feel. It was going to be a...

‘Chicago Fire’ Boss on New Chief Dermot Mulroney: “He’s Going to Shake Things Up”
Image
[This story contains mild spoilers from the season 13 premiere of Chicago Fire, “A Monster in the Field.”]

Change doesn’t come easy, as audience members witnessed during Wednesday’s season 13 premiere of NBC’s consistent hit series Chicago Fire. And if you’re showrunner Andrea Newman, you’d probably go a step further and say viewers will sense a sort of “spooky” sensation, as key castmembers were confronted with issues and people who haunted them in their past.

In the premiere, viewers saw the entire Firehouse 51 try to adjust to not having the influence of their beloved former Fire Chief Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker). Boden had gone on to higher aspirations within the hierarchy of the Chicago Fire Department, and now the crew is left with a very different personality as their new leader in Dom Pascal, played by new addition Dermot Mulroney. Pascal lets the firehouse know off the bat that he’s nothing like Boden, nor is he trying to be.

How Jack Damon Is Related To Kelly Severide: Parents, Backstory & Chicago Fire Future
Image
Your browser does not support the video tag.

Chicago Fire season 13 premiere sets up Kelly Severide's relationship with Jack Damon to be a big part of his arc moving forward. After his mysterious transfer to Firehouse 51 as a floater, the Chicago Fire season 12 finale dropped a major plot twist that linked Michael Bradway and Kelly Severide's characters together. It would be an understatement to say that, considering all the One Chicago exits during the 2023-2024 TV cycle, Damon's true identity twist didn't make a huge splash in terms of Chicago Fire season 12's narrative. That said, that's about to change as the character continues to be a part of Firehouse 51 moving forward.

Still reeling from the departure of Chief Boden from Firehouse 51, the Chicago Fire season 13 premiere focused on how Severide and the rest of the team are doing under Dom Pascal Dermot Mulroney's new Battalion Chief. Suffice it to say,...

Why Was Matthew Perry Snubbed In Emmys Memoriam?
Image
The Emmy Awards showed their annual In Memoriam this year, honoring those who died during the past year. Among the honorees this year are Bob Newhart, Richard Simmons, Shannen Doherty, Carl Weathers, Richard Lewis, Donald Sutherland, and James Earl Jones. However, many fans noticed Matthew Perry wasn’t honored.

There is a good reason for his omission from this year’s In Memoriam.

Why Wasn’t Matthew Perry In Emmy’s In Memoriam?

The In Memoriam had plenty of sad losses in the entertainment industry. However, when it finished, some fans wondered why Matthew Perry wasn’t in the listing. Perry died last October, so the ceremony falls within a year of his death.

YouTube/ABC News

This led people online to ask why Perry was “snubbed.”

“How do you forget Matthew Perry in your memorial of people that passed” “did I miss it or did the Emmy’s not show Matthew Perry?...

Shōgun wins big at Primetime Emmy Awards, as it should
Image
The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards just aired on ABC, and things went about as expected. In other words, the excellent historical drama Shōgun won Best Drama Series; the caustic slice-of-life series The Bear won Best Comedy Series, since I guess it's a little more like a comedy than Shōgun; and the autobiographical stalker drama Baby Reindeer won Best Limited or Anthology Series.

Those three were the big winners of the night, with them each taking home four awards. Jeremy Allen White won Best Actor In A Comedy Series as expected, and his costar Ebon Moss-Bachrach won Best Supporting Actor. On the drama side, Hiroyuki Sanada won Best Actor and Anna Sawai won Best Actress; she was the one I was really invested in. She was magnificent as Mariko and if she hadn't won I would have been forced to write a strongly worded letter to whoever votes in these things.

The 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards: Shogun and Baby Reindeer win big, but The Bear loses Best Comedy Series to Hacks
Image
Only eight months after the last Emmy ceremony (which was delayed due to the strikes), the Primetime Emmy Awards are back, although there were some big surprises in store. Everyone (myself included) expected The Bear to own every category it was nominated in. While it did well, winning many big categories including Best Actor in a Comedy Series, Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress, it lost Best Comedy Series (and actress) to Hacks.

Netflix’s controversial limited series Baby Reindeer also cleaned up, nabbing awards for star and creator Richard Gadd plus co-star Jessica Gunning. But, FX was the evening’s big winner, with their epic series, Shogun, dominating the drama categories, with the great Hiroyuki Sanada winning the prize for Best Actor, and Anna Sawai taking Best Actress, alongside the show’s Best Drama win. It’s amazing to see how Shogun’s become an absolute phenomenon, with the show...

Emmys 2024: See Full Winners List
Image
It’s television’s biggest night, and it’s posed to be a record-breaking one if contenders like “Shōgun” and “The Bear” continue expected sweeps.

The way of things was signaled at the 2024 Creative Arts Emmys September 7 and 8 when “Shōgun” broke records grabbing 14 trophies, sweeping every category except the main title theme and original score. “Shōgun” took casting, cinematography, period costumes, editing, period/fantasy production design, period/fantasy hairstyling, main title design, non-prosthetic period/fantasy/sci-fi makeup, prosthetic makeup, sound editing, sound mixing, special visual effects, and stunt performance, and broke a record previously held by “Game of Thrones.”

Tonight, the FX drama is nominated for Best Drama series, among a slew of acting nominations where it looks to continue its stunning run.

On the comedy side, defending champ “The Bear,” also FX, will take on the third season of Max’s “Hacks,” among other contenders like “Abbott Elementary,” and...

Emmy Nominations 2024: ‘Shōgun,’ ‘The Crown,’ and More
Image
TV’s biggest night is back for a second time this year, with the 76th Annual Emmy Awards back to their regularly-scheduled September ceremony. The impact of 2023’s Hollywood strikes is still rippling through the industry — including through the 75th Emmys, which took place earlier this year, in January — but the 2023-2024 Emmy nominees delivered another excellent year of television.

Despite the back-to-back ceremonies, the Emmys eligibility period holds strong; this ceremony will honor TV shows that premiered between June 2023 and May 2024. That includes pre-strike premieres like “The Bear” Season 2 and spring 2024 hits like “Hacks” Season 3. This was the first year without a lot of usual suspects in the Emmy race, such as “Succession,” “Ted Lasso,” “Barry,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” other favorites like “The Gilded Age,” “The Bear,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” and “The Crown” are still in the running.

Along with extensive coverage on the nominees and odds for each category,...

Haunted Season 13: Fallout From Chicago Fire S12s Severide & Damon Cliffhanger Teased By Showrunner
Image
Chicago Fire showrunner Andrea Newman has teased how there will be fallout from season 12's Severide (Taylor Knney) and Damon (Michael Bradway) cliffhanger, indicating a complex relationship moving forward. At the end of the previous batch of episodes, Chicago Fire season 12 revealed Severide and Damon are brothers, with Benny Severide (Treat Williams) confirmed to be their father. This came from a confession from Damon, potentially bringing up the old complicated relationship Severide had with his now-deceased dad. It also sets the stage as something they'll both need to wrestle with in season 13.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Newman explained the fallout from Damon's revelation to Severide about them being brothers in Chicago Fire season 13. The showrunner explains how the news will bring the Lieutenant back to his past, having him explore his relationship with his father and family through a new lens. She also hints at events transpiring between the pair in early episodes,...

Steven Spielberg Knows Exactly What Went Wrong With 1941
Image
Everyone knows that Steven Spielberg's "1941" was a notorious box office flop. And everyone ... is wrong. Despite its reputation over the years, Spielberg's 1979 war comedy was not a box office failure. It just looked that way because, well, it was a Steven Spielberg movie. In '79, in the wake of the record-breaking box office juggernaut that was "Jaws" and its successful follow-up "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," Steven Spielberg seemed untouchable. It felt like the wunderkind director could not fail — that, like a cinematic King Midas, everything he touched would turn to gold.

"1941" changed that. While the film went on to become a modest box office success, taking in $94.9 million on a $35 million budget, it was not well received. Critics were mixed at best on the film. As Roger Ebert wrote, "The movie finally reduces itself to an assault on our eyes and ears, a nonstop series of climaxes,...
