Before Reacher, Alan Ritchson Starred In A War Movie With A Back To The Future Star
Image
Many fans of "Reacher" might not have been all that familiar with series star Alan Ritchson prior to the show's debut. If so, it certainly wasn't down to a lack of projects on the actor's résumé. Ritchson really broke through by playing Jack Reacher and, as such, must have seemed to some as if he'd come out of nowhere to play the bulky ex-military policeman. But the man has actually been toiling away since the early 2000s.

In his now two-decade career, Ritchson has appeared on screens both big and small in a variety of projects, including "Above the Shadows" (an overlooked Mma movie that's now streaming on Prime Video), multiple seasons playing Hank Hall/Hawk on DC's "Titans," and two "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" movies (though Ritchson hated filming them). The actor's long career actually stretches all the way back to 2006 when he first played Arthur Curry/Aquaman on...

Back to the Future Part II (1989) Movie Ending Explained: What’s in the Letter that Marty Received?
Image
“Precisely” four years after the original, director Robert Zemeckis returned with screenwriter Bob Gale for the second instalment of the “Back To The Future” franchise. By now, we’ve all lived through 2015 and can easily look back and laugh at how they imagined the future. But, “Back To The Future Part 2” (1989) almost did a decent job in predicting 2015. Some ideas, like getting multiple fax messages at once, might have felt futuristic at the time, but they seem quaint now to modern eyes. Still, the film was ambitious; most importantly, it dared to use time travel to introduce paradoxes to a mainstream audience in the late 1980s.

Back to the Future Part II (1989) Plot Summary & Movie Synopsis: Why did Doc urge Marty to time travel to the future?

At the end of “Back To The Future” (1985), Doctor Brown arrives from the future in his flying DeLorean. Marty, who has just returned...

Square Enix Announces Final Fantasy 9 Anniversary Celebration Details, But There's Still One Huge Missing Piece
Image
Square Enix has made an official post for the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy 9 and has detailed several ways for fans to celebrate, but there is a giant piece that is missing, the one that fans have been hoping for since the Nvidia leak back in 2021. Today, July 7, marks 25 years since FF9 was released, and with a ton of rumors about a remake of FF9 being in development, many fans were hoping to see the announcement of the purported remake today, but now, that seems unlikely.

According to the official Final Fantasy 9 anniversary post on the Final Fantasy website by Square Enix, there are numerous ways to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the game, like game sales, art projects, and other purchasable merchandise. Notably, there is no mention of the rumored Final Fantasy 9 remake. That doesn't necessarily deny the existence of the rumored title entirely, but if it exists, Square...

40 Years Ago, Back To The Future's Epic Box Office Run Sparked An Everlasting Cinematic Legacy
Image
(Welcome to Tales from the Box Office, our column that examines box office miracles, disasters, and everything in between, as well as what we can learn from them.)

"What we set out to do was to make a human, fun, comedic, dramatic story and the idea of time travel was going to be used just as a device to tell that story." Those are the words of director Robert Zemeckis speaking with The Signal in 1985 ahead of the release of "Back to the Future." Four decades removed, what Zemeckis set out to accomplish with his time travel picture seems quaint in light of what it became.

There are movies people love. There are movies that endure. And then there are movies that would be used as a relic of humanity to prove we existed should life as we know it end. Right up there with the likes of "Gone With the Wind...

Back to the Future Turns 40 as Lea Thompson Picks Her Favorite & Least Favorite Films of the Trilogy
Image
Back to the Future is officially 40 years old, a milestone that may have many fans thinking, "Great Scott!" After four decades, the franchise remains as popular as ever, and it all goes back to the immense success of the original.

Per People, franchise star Lea Thompson addressed the big anniversary. Fans will recall how Thompson played Lorraine Baines McFly, the mother of Michael J. Fox's Marty McFly. Thompson played different versions of the character in Back to the Future Part II, playing a big part in the story of the second movie as she did in the first. In the third film, Thompson played Lorraine as well as one of the McFly family's ancestors, Maggie McFly, but even with multiple roles, her screen time was still reduced compared to the previous installments.

"For me, it's Back to the Future 1 because it's just a perfect screenplay. And as a director,...

Nintendo Seems To Be Increasing The Price Of The Switch - Find Out Who's Affected
Image
Amid speculation around tariffs and trade wars, Nintendo has confirmed it is changing the prices of the original Nintendo Switch and most accessories later this year in a new article posted on the company's website. However, at the time of this writing, not every region is affected. Details on which Nintendo Switch products and consoles were part of the price change were also mentioned in the official announcement.

In the post from Nintendo earlier today, the company said, "Pricing for the original Nintendo Switch family of systems and products in Canada will change based on market conditions." Further clarification specified that it was all original Switch systems, including the Switch Lite and Switch Oled models, but that the Switch 2 would not be affected. For now, only Canada seems to be affected by the price changes.

Video game designer Hideo Kojima calls Martin Scorsese the "second god" to the 80-year-old who directed ScreenRant's best movie of the 2010s..
Image
Hideo Kojima calls Martin Scorsese the "second god" to another director, the 80-year-old who made perhaps the best movie of the 2010s. The video game designer behind Metal Gear, Zone of the Enders and Death Stranding is hardly the only person to express admiration for the director behind Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, The Departed, and countless more movie classics.

Kojima’s games are indeed quite cinematic themselves, and groundbreaking besides, so it should come as no surprise that he draws inspiration from one of real cinema’s greatest and most innovative artists. But one Scorsese film stands above all others according to the legendary game designer. Naming his favorite films of all-time, Kojima cited Taxi Driver among his top four. But he also praised a film by another director for whom he has revealed even greater reverence.

When ‘Future’ Finally Wrapped, The Cast Was Ready To Go Back… Home
Michael J. Fox in Back to the Future (1985)
Image Source: Universal Pictures Home Entertainment After Back to the Future became a huge hit in 1985, its studio, Universal, did something that was very unusual at the time — it greenlit two sequels that would be shot back-to-back, allowing them to be released just six months apart. While the original film was particularly grueling for Michael J. Fox, who was shooting both Back to the Future and his TV series, Family Ties, simultaneously, the back-to-back sequels became a marathon for the entire cast and crew. Filming took nearly a year to complete; by the end of it, Thomas F. Wilson said, everybody was more than ready to go home. Speaking to us at the time of Back to the Future 3’s release, Wilson told us that, by the time shooting had wrapped, most of the cast members who’d finished their scenes had already left. Some Switch 2 Free Upgrades Might Lack A Much-Needed Improvement
Image
Certain free game upgrades on the Nintendo Switch 2will lack an important improvement: better frame rates. Many games initially released for the original Switch will be upgradable to free, enhanced versions on the console's successor. These are aimed at taking advantage of the Switch 2's more powerful specs, which will allow it to play big, triple-a releases like Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077 in addition to first-party Nintendo games and less-demanding indies.

As of yesterday, you can now browse the list of games receiving Switch 2 upgrades on Nintendo's official website. However, you may note that certain games - in particular, LInk's Awakening and Echoes of Wisdom - don't have frame rateimprovements among the changes listed. These two games notoriously experienced frequent frame rate dips on the original Switch, a problem that doesn't seem to have been addressed in the free updates, and players are concerned.

‘Back to the Future’ Writer Breaks Silence on Future Spinoffs After That ‘Cobra Kai’ Tease
Image
The Cobra Kai Season 6 finale was something of a dream, not only did it provide a satisfying ending to the long-running series, but it also left a lot of Easter eggs behind for fans to find. One such Easter egg that caught the eyes of fans was a Back to the Future reference.

The showrunners, Josh Heald and Jon Hurwitz, gave a cheeky nod to the trilogy by talking about creating a Bttf revival spinoff in the finale. However, Back to the Future screenwriter Bob Gale quickly shut down the speculation, addressing the tease in a recent interview.

Next Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, & More Appear To Be Delayed
Image
According to Ubisoft reports, it would appear that the next games in the Assassin's Creed and Far Cryfranchises, among others, have been delayed. Assassin's Creed Shadows' financial success has breathed new life into the series, but it has been over four years since Far Cry 6, and with a follow-up yet to be announced, it seems like the wait will only get longer.

In a press release from Ubisoft (via Kotaku), the publisher divulged that it has "decided to provide additional development time to some of its biggest productions in order to create the best conditions for success." This is followed by the assertion that "[Fiscal Year] 2026-27 and FY2027-28 will see significant growth vs. FY2025-26 on the back of strong content coming from [Ubisoft's] largest brands." While said brands aren't specifically named, Ubisoft's most notable IPs include Assassin's Creed and Far Cry, and could extend to the likes of Tom Clancy's.

"Nintendo Is Going To Get Away With It": Former Ubisoft Dev Condemns Switch 2 Game Key Cards
Image
A former Ubisoft developer has now spoken out against Nintendo Switch 2 Game-Key Cards, saying that he hates the practice. Several physical games for the console will release as "Game-Key Cards," which are essentially physical releases of digital games and act as an unlock key to download the game to the console, with very little, if any, of the game's data present on the physical cartridge. Fan reactions have been predominantly negative, but more developers and industry representatives are now voicing their thoughts on the practice.

In an interview with VideoGamer, former Assassin's Creed and Far Cry lead Alex Hutchinson stated that "Nintendo is going to get away with it," regarding the controversial Game-Key Card physical media release strategy, because of "nostalgia" towards long-time Nintendo products and characters. Hutchinson went on to create a hypothetical scenario in which he believes there would have been more outrage about the Game-Key Cards if...

I mean, do they think that if they say it enough times, we’re going to actually do it?“I mean, it’s like they know in every interview people say, ‘Oh Bob, when is there going to be a ‘Back to the Future 4’?’ Never. ‘When is there going to be a prequel?’ Never. ‘When is there going to be a spinoff?’ Never. “It’s just fine the way it is.

One of the best parts about the Back to the Future franchise is how all three films are interconnected and show how time travel can change the world of Hill Valley and the people in it. Some of those changes are big, like George McFly (Crispin Glover) going from a coward to, with his son Marty's (Michael J. Fox) help, becoming a young man who stands up to Biff (Thomas F. Wilson) in his second chance. This creates a more successful George in the new 1985. Using Easter eggs was also a fun way to show those time travel changes in smaller ways that emphasized the detail put into the little things. The best example of this is the mall where Marty starts his journey with Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd). In Back to the Future Part III, the trilogy came full circle with a mistake Marty made in the 1985 original.

A Throwaway Cobra Kai Joke References a Wild 34-Year-Old Cartoon
Image
Quick LinksBack to the Future Had an Animated TV series? The Bizarre History of Back to the Future Epilogues ExplainedWhat Does Cobra Kai's Back to the Future Easter Egg Mean?

As fans reflect on the Cobra Kai finale and what the future holds, some may have missed a throwaway joke that reflects a wild cartoon from 34 years ago. Back to the Future remains one of the most beloved sci-fi stories ever told, and the idea that the Cobra Kai creators might be mulling over more Marty McFly adventures has certainly sparked curiosity. However, what many may not realize is that Doc Brown and Marty already had a TV series, one that took their adventures far beyond the movies. As audiences speculate about what is next for Back to the Future, perhaps it is time to look back, revisit the history of the series, and unpack the meaning behind that...

The ‘Cobra Kai’ Creators Teased a ‘Back to the Future’ Show in the Series Finale. Is That Possible?
Image
In the final minutes of the Cobra Kai series finale, the action moves to a Los Angeles sushi restaurant with real-life Cobra Kai creators Jon Hurwitz and Josh Heald seated at the bar. “The show would be set in Hill Valley, alternate 1985,” says Hurwitz. “All we need are Wilson, Thompson, and Zane, and we got the green light.”

For those of you who don’t speak fluent nerd, Hurwitz is talking about a Back to the Future show taking place in the alternative, dystopian Hill Valley we saw in Back to the Future II.

'Cobra Kai' Creators Reveal If 'Back to the Future' Easter Egg Was a Spin-off Tease: "We’d Be All-in"
Image
Great Scott! The creators behind Cobra Kai have addressed the intriguing tease at the end of the show. Last week, Netflix released all the final Cobra Kai episodes, ending the Karate Kid spin-off's six-season run. If you stayed with Johnny and Daniel until the very end, when Johnny taught Daniel that chopsticks are not always necessary for catching flies, then you were probably confused by what happened just before that. Yes, we're talking about the unusual conversation between two strangers who we heard discussing something that had nothing to do with Cobra Kai.

The conversation is between Josh Heald and Jon Hurwitz, two of the three Cobra Kai co-creators. One says, "So the show would be set in Hill Valley, alternate 1985. All we need are Wilson, Thompson and Zane, and we’ve got the green light." Hill Valley is, of course, the fictional town where the Back to the Futurefranchise takes place,...

Cobra Kai Creator Addresses Finale's Back To The Future Easter Egg
Image
The following contains spoilers forCobra KaiSeaon 6, Episode 15, "Ex-Degenerate."

Cobra Kai has been a massive hit with Karate Kid fans since its debut in 2018. Now that the series has ended, creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg, may have already laid the groundwork for another franchise revival.

The final scene of Cobra Kaisees Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) sort of recreate the "catching a fly with chopsticks" scene from the original 1984 movie. However, per People, the conversation between the gentlemen at the bar in the moments prior is where Heald and Hurwitz discuss the possibility of doing a Back to the Future series. The chat in the throwaway scene was essentially a pitch for a Back to the Future revival.

Are the ‘Cobra Kai’ Creators Doing a ‘Back to the Future’ Spinoff Next?
Image
The final scene of Cobra Kai was a callback to the iconic fly scene from The Karate Kid, but it also featured another wink to a legendary ’80s actioner: Back to the Future. Before jumping to Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence’s (William Zabka) little dinner sequence, the camera pans over two men at the bar having a discussion about the 1985 sci-fi favorite and discussing their plans to make a show about it. Those two just so happen to be Cobra Kai co-creators Jon Hurwitz and Josh Heald, making a cameo as themselves in deep conversation about what’s next. “All right, lay it on me,” Heald says, to which Hurwitz explains his thinking: “So the show would be set in Hill Valley, alternate 1985. All we need are Wilson, Thompson, and Zane, and we’ve got the green light.” Hurwitz was referring, of course, to Bttf alums Thomas F. Wilson...

‘Back To The Future’ Writer On Potential Fourth Movie Jokingly Tells Fans, “F*** You!”
Image
Don’t expect another Back to the Future film, as co-writer Bob Gale seemingly shoots down the possibility despite fan desires.

On Sunday, February 2, the Saturn Awards honored Back to the Future on its 40th Anniversary with the George Pal Memorial Award. Gale, Christopher Lloyd, and Lea Thompson received the honor, and the writer addressed fan desire for a fourth installment of the sci-fi film.

“People always say, ‘When are you guys going to do Back to the Future 4? And we say, ‘F*** you!’ Gale jokingly said while accepting the honor. “You can quote me on that.”

He continued, “No, we made three terrific movies and people kept asking for more Back to the Future. So we made Back to the Future: The Musical, which Chris and Lea have attended on several occasions.”

The musical adaptation of the film ended its Broadway run last month, and a touring production continues throughout North America.

'Back to the Future' Co-Writer Bob Gale Responds to the New Sequel Question
Image
Bob Gale, the screenwriter behind the iconic sci-fi adventure franchise Back to the Future, has shared his take on the possibility of a sequel. Gale, who co-wrote the first film with Robert Zemeckis and then took care of the rest by himself, candidly says "F**k you" to all those who keep asking. And that's a direct quote.

The writer joined Christopher Lloyd (Emmett "Doc" Brown) and Lea Thompson at the Saturn Awards to talk about the legacy of the franchise. Per Collider, Gale is in tune with what Zemeckis and others have said in the past:

The Back To The Future Trilogy's 10 Most Iconic Scenes, Ranked
Image
As one of the most beloved movie trilogies of all time, Back to the Future has no shortage of iconic scenes. High school student Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and Doctor Emmett Brown (Christopher Lloyd) are one of the most well-known duos in cinematic history as they travel to the past and future via a DeLorean time machine. Back to the Future's various timelines spanning from 1885 to 2015 allow the story to continue for three movies and keep the trilogy engaging.

The movies' iconic nature is largely grounded in Back to the Future's best quotes, ranging from Doc Brown's "Great Scott!" to Marty saying, "Nobody calls me chicken!" Many of the quotes and scenes from the first Back to the Future movie made such a strong impact that they are repeated, albeit in different ways, during the second and third films. As such, the first Back to the Future...

Back To The Future Part II's Story Only Happened Because One Original Cast Member Refused To Return
Image
The reason why Back to the Future Part II is so dark is because one of the original Back to the Future cast members refused to reprise his role in the sequel. Back to the Future Part II follows on from the cliffhanger ending of the first Back to the Future, as Doc Brown takes Marty McFly into the future to prevent his son from making a huge mistake. The plot takes a grim turn when Doc and Marty return to a dystopian alternate version of the present.

This dark turn fit in with a trend of sequels going darker than their predecessor. The trend originated with The Empire Strikes Back and could later be seen in movies like The Dark Knight and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. With that said, the Back to the Future sequel wouldn’t have been so dark if one of the main...

Michael J. Fox & James Tolkan have Back to the Future reunion
Image
Did Principal Strickland ever have hair? And were the McFlys always slackers? The answers nearly came true at FanExpo New Orleans over the weekend, as Michael J. Fox and James Tolkan reunited, recreating their famous showdown at Hill Valley High.

In the photo (seen below), Michael J. Fox and James Tolkan joined up to give a modern recreation of the scene in which Principal Strickland gives Marty McFly a verbal berating in the hallway, telling him, “You got a real attitude problem, McFly; you’re a slacker. You remind me of your father when he went here; he was a slacker, too.” Really the only thing that would have made this shot better was if Claudia Wells (Jennifer Parker) was by Fox’s side. As the caption reads: “Slackers never change and Mr. Strickland will be sure to remind you. Michael J. Fox and James Tolkan reunited at #FANEXPONewOrleans2025 today...

Nintendo Switch 2: Why A Reveal This Week Seems Very Possible
Image
Nintendo announced the existence of the Nintendo Switch 2 all the way back in May 2024. Since then, there have been so many rumors and leaks surrounding its design, the games releasing for it, and, perhaps most importantly, when Nintendo will finally officially reveal it. Over the past few months there have been a number of leaks that have claimed it'll be revealed soon, only for that to never happen. It is fair to say that everyone is definitely tired of all the false hope.

Recently, leaker Nate the Hate claimed there will be a Switch 2 reveal this week, which has, naturally, sent fans wild. Of course, many are still skeptical, wondering whether the Switch 2 will actually be revealed or if it will lead to even more disappointment. However, while all rumors and leaks should be taken with a grain of salt, a Nintendo Switch 2 reveal may finally be on the horizon.

'Slackers Never Learn': Michael J. Fox and Back to the Future's Strickland Actor Reunite in New Photo
Image
"Jesus, didn't that guy ever have hair?"

Back in 1985, Michael J. Fox starred in Back to the Future, the time travel adventure story that has since become established as one of the greatest movies in cinema history. Another one of the stars of the franchise, James Tolkan, memorably played Principal Strickland at the high school attended by Fox's Marty McFly (and his parents three decades earlier). At FanExpo New Orleans 2025, Fox and Tolkan came face to face once again in a special reunion photo. The two appear to be channeling the feud between their characters, as Tolkan is pointing sternly at Fox with the latter giving the former a scowl in return. Shared on social media, the caption of the image stated, "Slackers never change and Mr. Strickland will be sure to remind you."

We Don't Need Another Zelda: Breath Of The Wild
Image
According to a new rumor circulating, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild might be getting a remastered version to mark the start of the Nintendo Switch 2 announcements. Due to some recent leaks surfacing, a revitalized version of the acclaimed title is reportedly in development stages for the upcoming next-generation Nintendo console. There has been no actual confirmation of the return to Calamity Hyrule by Nintendo, but why is Nintendo choosing to spotlight Breath of the Wild compared to a new Zelda franchise addition as they did with the Wii U and Switch?

Many people forget that Breath of the Wild debuted as a Nintendo Wii U release and was then announced for the Nintendo Switch a few years later. If these Breath of the Wild leaks turn out to be true, then Nintendo seems to be relying too hard on the critical success of Botw instead of exploring new avenues.

A Sequel To Back To The Future 3 Exists And Made Christopher Lloyd's Doc Brown The Main Character
Image
Back to the Future 4 might never get made, but there is an official sequel to the original Back to the Future trilogy that made Christopher Lloyd’s Doc Brown the star of the franchise. Robert Zemeckis has made it perfectly clear that he’s not interested in continuing the Back to the Future series with a fourth movie, and he won’t let any other filmmaker or money-grubbing studio do it for him. This is probably for the best — those legacy sequels rarely work out — but it is a shame that this story is over.

It would’ve been a joy to see Doc and Marty McFly share the screen one last time for one last time-traveling adventure. The franchise has continued in the form of video games and a stage musical, but none of them have been a direct continuation of the cinematic saga; it’s not the same...

As Nintendo Switch Nears Its End, It's Clear That Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Was Its Definitive Game From Day One
Image
It's safe to say that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one of Nintendo Switch's best offerings. Being one of Nintendo's most ambitious games at the time of its release, Breath of the Wild was the start of an incredibly successful era for the company that included some of the biggest titles in its history. The Switch has been home to a number of groundbreaking, revolutionary games that have transformed some of Nintendo's most beloved franchises, and Botw is certainly one of those titles.

Yet, Botw is far more important to the Switch than it first seems. While multiple titles have contributed to the Switch's overall success, Botw was crucial to getting the system off the ground. Its role in helping Nintendo to redeem itself after the Wii U's disappointing performance, and its influence on the Switch era as a whole, solidified Botw as the system's definitive game from day one.

Pause Back To The Future Part II At The Right Moment & There's A Nsfw Detail You Probably Missed
Image
Though it's well-known as a family movie, Back to the Future Part II has some jokes that aren't safe for work, and one can only be seen by pausing at exactly the right moment. While there were some things Back to the Future Part II got right about 2015, not all of its predictions were right. From self-lacing sneakers to flying cars, there were a few wild predictions about the future in one of the best Back to the Future movies. One such prediction was only in a few seconds of the film, and finding it means finding a dirty joke that wasn't intended for young audiences.

Michael J. Fox played several McFly family members in the Back to the Future trilogy, and one of his most prominent roles was as Marty McFly Jr. in the second installment. Marty Jr. was, basically, the butt of many of the movie's jokes. He...

Doc & Marty Were Not Back To The Future's First Time Travelers
Image
The Back to the Future franchise may revolve around them, but neither Doc Brown nor Marty McFly were the world's first time travelers. This is a point that many viewers can overlook about the movie, since it certainly feels like Michael J. Fox's Marty is the first one to go back in Doc's time-traveling DeLorean - but he gets beaten by a technicality. The fact Marty got to use the time machine Doc Brown spent 30 years building first must be heartbreaking in itself, though Doc doesn't show any signs of bitterness about this within the Back to the Future trilogy.

Of course, Doc and Marty weren't the only people to use the DeLorean either. Marty's girlfriend Jennifer (Claudia Wells/Elisabeth Shue) and Old Biff (Thomas F. Wilson) also took spins in the machine - though series director Robert Zemeckis later regretted including Jennifer in the trip to 2015, since she...
