The nominees for the 52nd Daytime Emmys have been announced. We’ll give you the scoop on who was nominated and who we feel was snubbed.
First, let’s get the really disappointing news out of the way: Beyond the Gates isn’t yet eligible for scoring nominations for this year’s show.
Sadly, Beyond the Gates Wasn’t Eligible For This Year’s Daytime Emmys: Better Luck Next Time!
Btg premiered in February 2025, which falls outside the nomination window. Nominations are only eligible if the material was aired between January and December 2024.
Karla Mosley, who plays Dani Dupree on Btg, is the most entertaining character on the show. Mosely had done some incredible work. She’s definitely a shoo-in for next year!

A quick review of the 2025 Daytime Emmy nominations might give you the false impression that only three soap operas aired within the 2024 calendar year of eligibility: CBS' The Young and the Restless (19 noms), ABC's General Hospital (16 noms), and Peacock's Days of Our Lives (13 noms).
However, CBS' The Bold and the Beautiful (four noms), Popstar's The Bay (one nom), and Prime Video's Neighbours (one nom) were also eligible this year, though they were almost completely snubbed by voters.
On the flip side, several contenders received surprising wake-up calls Thursday morning, including most notably Clint Howard. The longtime character actor, whose brother is actor-director Ron Howard, has now been recognized for his highly publicized guest arc as an unhoused man on The Bold and the Beautiful.
Read on for Gold Derby's snubs and surprises of the 2025 Daytime Emmy nominations:

The classic coming-of-age ABC series The Wonder Years -- following the childhood of Fred Savage’s Kevin Arnold, as told from the perspective of his older self -- ended its run in 1993. The popular TV program also starred Danica McKellar as Kevin’s crush Winnie Cooper, and the actor looks back fondly at her experience on the show.
McKellar -- marking 32 years since the show concluded -- posted to Instagram, sharing some behind-the-scenes photos from the final day on set. In one photo, McKellar is shown standing with Josh Saviano, who played Kevin’s best friend Paul Pfeiffer, and Savage. Another photo showed the trio cutting a celebratory cake with Daniel Stern (who narrated the series as an adult Kevin) and others.

During his stint playing Commander William Riker on "Star Trek: The Next Generation," Jonathan Frakes (seen above left) underwent a rudimentary director's boot camp. Frakes was interested in directing episodes of the show, and the producers said he would only be allowed to do so after shadowing other directors for 300 hours. Frakes put in his due diligence, and he ended up directing eight episodes of the series. The producers were so impressed that they also hired Frakes to direct two of the "Star Trek" feature films.
His directorial experience on "Next Generation," he found, could be parlayed into other directing gigs. For one, he remained with the "Star Trek" franchise for decades, coming back to helm episodes of "Deep Space Nine," "Voyager," "Discovery," "Strange New Worlds," and "Picard." He directed the family friend sci-fi adventure film "Clockstoppers" in 2002 and "Thunderbirds" in 2004, eventually moving exclusively into television, overseeing episodes of "Leverage,...

Obviously inspired by the 2020 pandemic, Staycation is a brilliantly dark-humoured look at that bizarre point in time where the world stood still and people argued about what was the “truth” about the situation on a daily basis. In fact Russ Emanuel’s film is probably the most on-the-nose “retelling” of that time – but with a wonderful skewed, laugh out loud, look at how insane the pandemic was. Only the pandemic is not of the “flu” variety – it’s more a zombie apocalypse, with the viruses victims here turning into “wanderers” (aka zombies).
The film’s central narrative follows Professor Edward Bellows (Sean Kenney), a lead virologist striving to develop a cure for the deadly Nix virus. Opening...

The classic coming-of-age series The Wonder Years did not end without controversy, as the show did not conclude with a romantic ending for Kevin Arnold (Fred Savage) and Winnie Cooper (Danica McKellar). However, 31 years after the finale, McKellar herself is hinting that fans shouldn't necessarily give up on shipping Kevin and Winnie.
Originally on the air between 1988 and 1993, The Wonder Years was set during the late 1960s and early 1970s. It centered on Kevin during his formative years growing up as a high school student while Winnie was his on-again, off-again childhood girlfriend. The series finale featured a narration from the older Kevin (Daniel Stern) revealing that Kevin and Winnie wound up marrying other people when they became adults, though the two remained friends. On a recent episode of the Pod Meets World podcast (per Variety), McKellar appeared as a guest and addressed how the series finale disappointed fans who'd...

Not many Jedi's impact can be seen as influencing Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker, or Kanan Jarrus. However, there is one Jedi master who impacted each of these characters in different ways: Luminara Unduli. She has been seen throughout the franchise and is one of the unsung heroes of the Jedi Order.
Her first introduction was in Attack of the Clones when she joined the legion of Jedi at the Battle of Geonosis. She was seen throughout the run of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, including in the Season 1 episode "Cloak of Darkness." Throughout the episode, she taught Ahsoka valuable lessons in discipline and patience but also realized how smart Ahsoka was and what the padawan could become.
Later, Luminara was heavily featured in the Geonosis arc in Season 2 of the series. She worked with Anakin, Ahsoka, and her own padawan, Barriss Offee, to bring down the Geonosisian leader, Poggle the Lesser,...

The Wonder Years is a beloved series chronicling life in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The Wonder Years ended after six seasons with a controversial and rushed finale in 1993. The show returned for a reboot in 2021, earning critical acclaim but facing setbacks that eventually led to its cancellation.
ABC's The Wonder Years was one of the most notable sitcoms of the 1980s, well known for its theme song and generally saccharine tone. Going on for five years and six seasons, the show accumulated over 100 episodes and is a seminal series in the history of American television. Sadly for fans of the beloved TV series, The Wonder Years came to a close in 1993, and it did so in a way that not many appreciated. Featuring a hastily done voice-over and a future that was not what people expected, the surprising but realistic ending for the show is still a sore...

Q forgot about Tng's Amanda Rogers in his Star Trek: Voyager return. Rogers disproves Q's claim that no two Q ever conceived a child before himself and Miss Q. However, Q may not have counted Rogers as a true Q offspring due to the unique circumstances surrounding her parents and birth.
Q's (John de Lancie) return to Star Trek: Voyager season 3 forgot about Amanda Rogers (Olivia d'Abo) from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Q is one of the most prolific characters in all the Star Trek TV shows, appearing throughout the franchise's 1990s era and even in more recent series like Star Trek: Lower Decks or Star Trek: Picard. Although Q first made a name for himself on Tng, his appearances on Voyager fleshed out more of his character and provided some never-before-seen backstory for the Q Continuum.
Much of this backstory was seen in Q's first two appearances on Voyager.

“That which does not kill us makes us stronger,” reads the Nietzschean maxim that serves as epigraph for writer-director John Milius’s 1982 adaptation of Conan the Barbarian, thereby encouraging viewers to plumb the philosophical depths of this rousing sword-and-sorcery epic starring Arnold Schwarzenegger from the get-go. So it’s sort of ironic to consider that, given the film’s commercial success and subsequent cult status, Milius no doubt contributed to the seemingly endless proliferation of this slogan across multiple platforms, emblazoned on everything from motivational posters to coffee mugs.
Milius’s seriousness of intent is signaled from the opening scene when Conan’s father (William Smith) advises his young son (Jorge Sanz) to trust nothing in this world but his sword. Critics at the time believed this solipsistic bit of paternal advice to reflect the ruthless individualism of Reagan’s America. But things are a bit more complicated than that,...

Commander Riker had numerous romantic relationships throughout Star Trek: The Next Generation, but his true love was always his Imzadi, Counselor Deanna Troi. Riker experienced various romantic encounters, including a planet leader, a holographic character, and a colonist's daughter, among others. Despite several flings and crushes, Riker and Troi eventually rekindled their romance, got married, and had two children, solidifying their beautiful love story.
Over the course of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Commander William T. Riker (Jonathan Frakes) justifiably earned the reputation of being a ladies' man. Taking over the moniker from Captain James T. 1984’s Conan the Destroyer was an attempt to soften Arnold Schwarzenegger’s titular barbarian into a PG-rated fantasy film hero. The result was a movie that was only a middling success in theaters, being overshadowed by Arnold’s other big 1984 movie, James Cameron’s The Terminator. Conan the Destroyer proved to be the last time Arnie would play Robert E. Howard’s Cimmerian icon, and in the decades since its release the movie’s reputation has been pretty atrocious. Hardcore fans prefer John Millius’s darker, R-rated Conan the Barbarian to Richard Fleischer’s lighter, family friendly version which seemed to owe a lot more to eighties fantasy movies like The Beastmaster than Millius’s original. It’s a deeply silly film, and one of the cheapest Schwarzenegger’s films of the eighties, with him essentially forced into making this and the following year’s Red Sonja to fulfil a...

Q was one of Star Trek's greatest villains, and the omnipotent space god starred in some of the very best episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Debuting in the show's very first episode, Q returned on many occasions throughout The Next Generation's seven-season run to vex the crew of the USS Enterprise with his shenanigans. Played by the incomparable John de Lancie, Q had a bombastic personality, and he seemed to enjoy grinding the gears of Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart). Despite every problem he put the captain through, Q's curiosity was his strongest aspect, and he always elevated any Star Trek story he was a part of.
Gifted with seemingly endless power, Q used his unique set of skills to put the humanity of the Enterprise crew through many tests, and he often lorded over the universe as Star Trek's resident space god. Though he was...

Since 1990, Law & Order and its many spinoffs have produced some of the longest-running and most well-loved crime dramas of all time. While most may be familiar with the original Law & Order and the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit spinoff that's still running now in 2022, there are others that have more than earned their attention from the fan base.
Law & Order: Criminal Intent focused on the NYPD's Major Case squad that mainly investigated high-profile cases. Its broad case focus added variety to the episodes season after season, but every season had an episode that viewers and IMDb users appreciated more than the rest which is shown in the user ratings.

Shot during the pandemic and set on May 30, 2020 — just a few days after the death of George Floyd during an arrest by the Minneapolis Police Department — “Traveling Light” is an experimental attempt at social commentary that fails to provide any insight, emotion or even entertainment of the most basic kind. Nearly a year after its weird-fit premiere at genre-focused Beyond Fest in Los Angeles, this scrappy Covid-era quickie from eclectic director Bernard Rose (who made the original “Candyman”) opens today in New York and Seattle, with other cities to follow.
It seems Rose was aiming for a loose riff on “The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie,” focusing on a gathering in the Hollywood Hills of the followers of a self-proclaimed guru/prophet (Danny Huston), where everyone drinks a concoction spiked with an unnamed hallucinogenic and eventually line-dances while chanting “Hare Hare,” even though there isn’t a single Hare Krishna in sight.

The recent round of reboots hasn’t set the world on fire when it comes to winning accolades. But that changed with ABC’s “The Wonder Years,” which premiered last September. A big reason is it’s a complete reimagining. Instead of being a coming-of-age memory comedy about a young boy growing up in the late 1960s in a middle-class White family, the new version revolves around a Black family living in that pivotal decade in Montgomery, Alabama as seen through the eyes of a 12-year-old.
The reboot has already followed in the original’s footsteps earning a prestigious Peabody Award in June for “its willful depiction of Black Joy.” The initial version picked up the award in 1989 for “pushing boundaries of the sitcom format and using new modes of storytelling.” So will Emmys be far behind for freshman series starring Elisha “Ej” Williams as 12-year-old Dean Williams and Dull...

Exclusive: Sierra McCormick (American Horror Stories), Tony Todd (Candyman), Katie Sarife (Annabelle Comes Home), Gina Hiraizumi (Doom Patrol), Emmy nominee Morgan Fairchild (Murphy Brown) and Nicky Whelan (The Binge) have boarded Robin Givens’ mockumentary-style comedy, The Nana Project. They join an ensemble that also includes Oscar and Golden Globe winner Mercedes Ruehl, Nolan Gould and Will Peltz, as previously announced.
Set primarily at Timeless Acres Retirement Home, the film follows a documentary crew who develop an interest in one of its star residents—feisty chess master Helen “Nana” Lewis (Ruehl). With the help of her friends Jennifer (Whelan), Francesca (Fairchild), Jack (Todd), Esther (Tilton), Kitty (Beth Broderick), Gladys (Margaret Avery) and Lisa (Hiraizumi), Nana begins training for an upcoming chess tournament. She plans on dominating the competition but her real plan involves reuniting her estranged grandsons, Andrew (Gould), a dedicated veterinary student, and Cody (Peltz), a flashy male model and influencer.

Lee Daniels’ “Wonder Years” reboot pilot at ABC has added two new cast members.
“Psych” and “The West Wing” alum Dule Hill has joined the series as Bill Williams, Dean’s father and patriarch of the central family. Per ABC, “He’s a music professor by day and a funk musician by night – described by Adult Dean as ‘the baddest guy I knew.’ Almost always calm and composed, his favorite words are ‘be cool.’ Bill wants his family and their black, middle class neighborhood to remain self-sufficient and he puts his money where his mouth is.”
Newcomer Laura Kariuki will play Bill’s daughter and Dean’s teenage sister, Kim Williams. Lee Daniels’ upcoming reboot of “The Wonder Years” has found its new Kevin Arnold… er, Dean.
The ABC pilot cast Elisha “Ej” Williams to play Dean, the 12-year-old boy that serves as the center of the show, much the same way Fred Savage’s Kevin Arnold did in the original “Wonder Years.”
Here’s how ABC describes the character: “”Dean is an inquisitive and hopeful 12-year-old kid coming of age in a turbulent time. It’s 1968 in Montgomery, Alabama — and Dean is trying to figure out his place within his Black family and the world at large. Though a little insecure, a tad awkward and a bit self-conscious, he is determined to make his mark on the world around him.”
Williams joins Saycon Sengbloh, who will play his mother, Lillian, in the pilot.

Saycon Sengbloh will star in Lee Daniels’ reboot of “The Wonder Years” at ABC, which currently has a pilot order.
Sengbloh will play Lillian Williams, the mother of the family at the center of the show. The new version of the classic TV series will shift the focus to a Black middle class family in Alabama.
Here’s how ABC describes the character: “Sharp as a tack, Lillian is confident, kind, perceptive and has a good sense of humor. She knows exactly the right thing to say to convince you of anything. As a mother, wife and full-time accountant, she’s organized, efficient and hard-working, but she always puts family first.”
Put into development last summer, “The Wonder Years” reboot will be set in the same era as the original 1980s series, with “Dave” executive producer Saladin Patterson writing and executive producing. The “Empire” creator executive produces alongside Marc Velez of Lee Daniels Entertainment.

I say at last, but I’m not sure it was at the top of anyone’s list of movie treasure troves. ABC has handed a pilot production commitment to The Wonder Years, a new iteration of the network’s 1980s family comedy-drama. It comes from Dave executive producer Saladin K. Patterson, Empire co-creator Lee Daniels, the original series’ breakout star Fred Savage and 20th Century Fox TV.
Written by Patterson inspired by his experiences growing up in Montgomery, Al, the new incarnation of Wonder Years chronicles how a middle-class Black family in Montgomery in the turbulent late-1960s — the same era as the original series — made sure it was the Wonder Years for them too.
The approach is reminiscent of the successful current reimagining of the classic family sitcom One Day at a Time with a Latinx family.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was keen to pay homage to the franchise’s past in many ways. One of the coolest was the vocal cameos from many stars from across Sw history in the big climactic fight between Rey and Palpatine. When it looks like the heroine is out for the count, she’s spoken to by the Jedi of the past who imbue her with renewed strength and allow her to stand up against her evil grandfather and save the galaxy.
There are many overlapping, whispering voices in the mix during this scene, so it can be hard to pinpoint them all. This new promo video for the Rise of Skywalker digital release showcases a few of them, though. And as you can see in the tweet below, the clip plays the relevant audio over footage of the Jedi in the flesh.
The Force surrounds you… let it lift you.

There’s a lot of baggage that comes with trying to make a movie that serves as a climax of a nine-movie saga, and so “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” had a lot of obligations to fulfill. And we figured that one of those obligations that it would fulfill was to feature some cameos from past characters in the franchise. And at the end of the movie we were delivered a bulk order of cameos, including some from the animated TV series “Rebels” and “Clone Wars.”
So in the climactic battle, Rey’s been knocked flat on her back, Palpatine having sucked the life force or something out of her and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). Earlier, Palpatine had bragged that the spirits of all the Sith lords...
