Alfa Anderson, the one-time lead vocalist of Chic who sang on classic disco songs including “Le Freak,” “Good Times,” and “I Want Your Love,” has died at the age of 78.
Nile Rodgers, the leader of Chic, shared news of Anderson’s passing on social media on Saturday. A cause of death was not disclosed.
After getting her start as a backing vocalist for artists such as Dionne Warwick and Roy Buchanan and vocal work on The Wiz soundtrack, Anderson auditioned for a role in Chic in 1977. She assumed co-lead vocalist following the departure of Norma Jean Wright in 1978 and went on to sing on some of the group’s biggest solo hits. She was also featured on Chic’s collaborations with artists including Sister Sledge (“We Are Family”), Diana Ross (Diana), and Johnny Mathis (I Love My Lady).
Following Chic’s initial disbandment in 1983, Anderson toured internationally with Luther Vandross.

2024 has been a pretty up and down year for horror so far. Movies like Longlegs have received great reviews, along with some other well-received hits such as Speak No Evil and Smile 2 For some of these titles, critical praise has been matched with box office success. Longlegs, for instance, is the no. 3 horror film of the year, making over $74 million domestically. Two franchise horror films also managed to cross the $100 million at the domestic box office, including Alien: Romulus and A Quiet Place: Day One.
On the other hand, a series of horror films have underperformed their high expectations. Abigail, while well-reviewed, struggled to make a huge impact at the box office, making only $42.7 million. This was not likely enough to recoup its estimated $28 million budget. A similar fate was true for The First Omen, another film whose critical reviews were far more fruitful than its ticket sales.

Michael Bublé is set to host the 2025 Juno Awards in his hometown of Vancouver, Canada, organizers said Friday.
The Canadian crooner, who is currently a coach on The Voice, will host the Junos for the third time on March 30. “I could not be happier bringing the Juno Awards home to Vancouver for 2025. The Junos are such an important part of the Canadian music industry and being able to host for the second time in my hometown makes this night mean even more to me. I’m excited to be surrounded by all the amazing talent we have from coast to coast this March,” Bublé, who has earned 15 Junos and five Grammys over his celebrated career, said in a statement.
In 2017, Bublé withdrew from hosting duties for the Brit Awards and the Juno Awards to care for his 3-year-old son after he was diagnosed with cancer. His son has since been in remission.

Hollywood veteran Kevin Costner may have gained tremendous acclaim and fame for his outstanding work in the Western genre, but that didn’t stop him from trying his hand across other genres too. While his versatility as an actor spread over thrillers, romance, and action projects, it also saw him embody one of the most legendary heroic outlaws from English folklore: Robin Hood.

Like multiple other takes on the character, Costner’s film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves from 1991 was a commercial success but was also met with mixed reviews: Doomed by critics and loved by fans. And while Costner may have been satisfied with the work he did on the movie, Russell Crowe – who also played an iteration of the hero – had some serious scathing criticism for him.

Certain parody movies have managed to surpass their original inspirations in terms of popularity, cultural impact, and enduring appeal. Airplane! is now much more iconic than Zero Hour! Singin' in the Rain is so great that a lot of people don't realize most of its songs were taken from other (lesser-known) movies.
From Airplane! to Blazing Saddles to The Rocky Horror Picture Show, some parodies are so great and iconic that they outshine the movies they originally set out to spoof. Usually, a parody movie only gets made because the film its targeting is a cultural staple. As hilarious as Spaceballs is, it was never going to outdo the Star Wars saga. But some parodies go for more obscure targets; not a lot of people know that Airplane! is practically a shot-for-shot remake of a ridiculous disaster movie called Zero Hour!, or that The Naked Gun borrows its premise from Telefon.

Songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are on the verge of Egot status… that is, if Emmy voters nominate their song from “Only Murders in the Building” and it winds up winning three months from now.
Pasek and Paul — already Oscar winners for “La La Land” and Tony and Grammy winners for “Dear Evan Hansen” — could finally manage that feat with the witty comic patter song “Which of the Pickwick Triplets Did It?,” sung by Steve Martin and co-written with fellow Tony and Grammy winners Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman for the third season of the Hulu comedy-drama.
They are among the many prominent songwriters who have entered songs in this year’s Emmy competition. Voting began Thursday, with approximately 550 members of the Television Academy music peer group eligible to vote in seven music categories. Voting ends June 24 and the nominations will be announced July 17.

The children of Steve Marriott, along with his bandmates and fellow rock legends, are fighting against the potential release of recordings featuring new AI-generated versions of the late singer’s vocals.
According to Variety, the recordings were authorized by Marriott’s third wife, Toni Marriott, to whom the rock icon was married to for only two years before he tragically died in a fire at age 44 in 1991.
Steve’s daughter Mollie, on behalf of her siblings, has issued a statement decrying the potential release of these AI-generated recordings. Her stance has been endorsed by Small Faces’ Kenney Jones and Humble Pie’s Peter Frampton and Jerry Shirley, along with such legends as Robert Plant, David Gilmour, Bryan Adams, Paul Weller, Paul Rodgers, and others.

It took years of searching and too many false leads to count, but the musicians behind the mysterious 1980s pop tune commonly referred to as “Everyone Knows That” or “Ekt” — the real title is “Ulterior Motives” — have been identified: Christopher Saint Booth sang the vocals on the beguiling track, while his identical twin brother Philip Adrian Booth played the guitar. It was originally part of the soundtrack on the 1986 adult film Angels of Passion, one of several porn flicks the pair scored in their youth before embarking on long and...

Arguably the best episode of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" is the season 11 banger "Mac & Dennis Move to the Suburbs," an episode that really only follows two members of the gang but manages to be chock full of laughs. The episode is among the highest rated on IMDb and seems to be pretty universally appreciated by fans. While there are a handful of "Always Sunny" episodes that play with horror elements, like "The Maureen Ponderosa Wedding Massacre" and "Charlie's Home Alone," but "Mac & Dennis Move to the Suburbs" draws from one of the greatest horror movies of all time: Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining."
The episode follows Mac (Rob McElhenney) and Dennis (Glenn Howerton), who are unable to find an apartment that fits their needs after they burned their own place down. They decide to move to a big house in the suburbs, where their rent money will stretch much further.

The concert took place at The Garage in London on Tuesday, where Armstrong and his band covered The Ramones, David Bowie, Bryan Adams, The Strokes, The Clash, and Buzzcocks. The Violent Night soundtrack features a festive collection of classic carols and contemporary hits, adding to the wild style of the movie's bloody mayhem. Despite its violence, Violent Night captures the spirit of Christmas and presents its own twisted version, making it a fun holiday treat. Each song in the soundtrack is strategically placed throughout the film, accompanying key moments and adding depth to the story's chaotic events.
Though it is filled with more bloody violence and R-rated humor than most other Christmas movies, the Violent Night soundtrack is a very festive collection of holiday music, drawing from classic carols and contemporary hits. The songs accompany Santa Claus (David Harbour), as he stumbles into a Christmas Eve robbery. There, he battles his way through a barrage of violent thieves, vowing to rescue a young child, Trudy Lightstone, held hostage inside her father's family home. The Violent Night soundtrack has a...

The end of the 1990s was an odd time for cinema and in general. We were in the midst of Y2K, a panic over clocks and computers needing to roll over from 99 to 00, something people feared more than monsters and cults, something people really feared and fearmongered about. It was expected to be something of an apocalypse by some. So of course, Hollywood ran with it. Technology gone wrong, end of days, Satan coming to Earth, etc. We got films like Strange Days, Stigmata, eXistenZ, Virus, The Matrix, and End of Days (watch it Here), our movie today.
Following a dry patch of work for Arnold Schwarzenegger following Batman & Robin and heart surgery, he didn’t get all that many offers and eventually, it seemed like he would not be coming back. Then, End of Days came his way, and it seemed like a good, if darker than his then-recent work,...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched Season 10, Episode 12 of “The Masked Singer,” “Soundtrack to My Life,” which aired Dec. 13 on Fox.
Oh, oh, here he comes. Watch out boy, he’ll chew you up! Oh, oh, here he comes. John Oates is an Anteater.
Say it isn’t so. John Oates, one half of the most successful rock duo of all time — Daryl Hall & John Oates — was revealed on Wednesday as the Anteater on “The Masked Singer.” Later, Keyshia Cole was also unmasked as the Candelabra.
The Oates appearance comes at quite a coincidental moment: He and Hall have been in the news recently after a falling out (and Hall’s lawsuit) over Oates’ plan to sell his share of their joint venture.
“I can’t really talk about it,” Oates told Variety last week. “I don’t really want to talk about it. It...

Lorna Tucker’s documentary about homelessness and ways to help end it will be heading to UK cinemas in February.
Director Lorna Tucker has turned her own experiences of homelessness into a touching, rousing documentary. Someone’s Daughter, Someone’s Son is heading to UK screens 16 February 2024 and arguably, it’s exactly the film we need right now as we face an unprecedented housing crisis. The film is narrated by Colin Firth.
But the future didn’t always look too bright for Someone’s Daughter, Someone’s Son. The team had to crowdfund in order to secure a theatrical release and they’ve now hit that milestone. Their Kickstarter campaign met the £30 000 goal just recently and Sam Fender, Adam Buxton and Bryan Adams, who wrote a song for the film, are among some of the project’s supporters.

Singer Bryan Adams recalled how he flew hitmaker Amy Winehouse out to his villa in Mustique in 2007, when she reportedly swallowed over $2,000 worth of heroin wraps on the plane, but he is not sure if he was able to make a difference to her struggles as he knows she needed to want to change. There are few people in the music industry who have the presence of Bono. The Irish frontman of U2 knows no limitations when it comes to fighting poverty and hunger, and is constantly in direct contact with world leaders and policy makers in his quest to make the world a better place.
Bono was inspired to get involved in charity work after seeing The Secret Policeman’s Ball in 1979. In 1986 he helped organize Amnesty International's Conspiracy Of Hope tour alongside Sting, who was one of the Secret Policeman’s Ball performers seen by Bono, Peter Gabriel, Lou Reed, and Bryan Adams. He also got involved in the Band Aid and Live Aid projects which were organized by Bob Geldof – another Secret Policeman’s Ball performer, and later helped Geldof organize the 2005 Live 8 project.

In the middle of August this year, three legends of the music industry died within 72 hours of each other: founder of A&m Records Jerry Moss; music lawyer Abe Somer; and my father, the “Black Godfather” himself, Clarence Avant. These three men helped define the recording industry of the past six decades, and what’s more, they were inseparable best friends.
Somer, Moss, and Avant met in New York City in the early 1960s, and in the six decades since, never left one another’s side, never once let their “soul contract” expire.

Singer-songwriter Bryan Adams has participated in concerts and other activities to help raise money and/or awareness for a variety of different causes for nearly 30 years. Some include Live Aid, Amnesty International's “A Conspiracy of Hope” tour, Rock For Amnesty, the Prince's Trust Rock Gala, the Nelson Mandela birthday party concert, Roger Waters' “The Wall” in Berlin, the CBC benefit concert in Toronto for victims of the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake, and Canada’s Live 8 show. In Qatar he raised £1.5M from a performance and the auction of a guitar signed by many of the world’s most prominent guitarists for Qatar’s “Reach Out to Asia” campaign. He also performed in Karachi, Pakistan, to raise money for underprivileged children to go to school and for victims of the 2005 Pakistan earthquake.

The landmark 1985 charity concert, Live Aid, has been turned into a stage musical. Titled Just for One Day, the show will feature songs by Queen, Elton John, Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, and more, and is set to premiere next year at the Old Vic in London.
In a new interview, the original Live Aid’s organizer, Bob Geldof, explained that the show is “based on actual testimony from the day,” and will give a stage to “real people telling their story.” To that end, it won’t be your run-of-the-mill jukebox romp, but rather, a fresh narrative meant to inspire a new generation of rock music lovers.
Among the other artists whose songs are included are: David Bowie, The Who, U2, The Police, The Pretenders, The Cars, Status Quo, Paul Weller, Sade, The Boomtown Rats, Bryan Adams, Diana Ross, and Ultravox.
“This isn’t a tribute thing,” Geldof told the BBC.
