Mariah Carey famously operates in her own orbit, so it’s hardly shocking that she only recently learned about Katy Perry’s brief flight into space.

Despite the widespread coverage of Perry’s 11-minute sub-orbital mission aboard Blue Origin, Carey seemed stupefied when asked in a BBC interview if she’d ever like to follow in Katy’s lead.

“Did she go to space? Where did she go?” Carey responded, before being informed of more details. “She’s like floating in the… and this is true? Wow. All right, Katy… I’m not mad at her, that’s pretty amazing.”

When Breakfast Show host Scott Mills repeated his question about whether she would like to go to space, Carey answered, “I think I’ve done enough” with a hilarious deadpan and huge smile.

The songstress, who is typically known for her holiday cheer, is instead releasing her new album, “Here For It All,” in September. Carey announced the new album on her personal Instagram, teasing a short clip of the new track that the album was named for. According to Variety, this is not the first hint of what is to come. The Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame inductee also released another track, “Type Dangerous,” earlier in June.

Mariah Carey has shared the release date for her upcoming 16th album Here For it All, with the pop icon confirming the record will come out September 26.

Carey shared the news on her Instagram Monday morning, sharing a brief snippet of her vocals on what seems to be the album’s title track. Here For It All marks Carey’s first album since 2018’s Caution, which released through Sony’s Epic Records and debuted at Number 5 on Billboard’s 200 Albums chart.

Back in June, Carey had disclosed that she signed a multi-album deal with Larry Jackson’s independent music company Gamma, and she subsequently released the album’s lead single “Type Dangerous,” which debuted at 95 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and marked her first non-holiday single to hit the chart since 2017. “The Secret of Life” comes not even two years after she published her massive 970-page memoir, “My Name Is Barbra,” which was accompanied by 48-hour audiobook that she read. She is also in production of a multi-part documentary about her life directed by Frank Marshall.

Even so, Streisand insists, “I’m very lazy. I don’t like to have to work.”

She adds, “I like to be free. I don’t like to have commitments.

After multiple editing delays, Mariah Carey has finally dropped the music video for “Type Dangerous,” her first original solo song since 2019’s “In the Mix,” the theme song to the short-lived ABC sitcom Mixed-Ish. The video for the new single was directed by Joseph Kahn, who previously worked with Carey on her videos for 2003’s “Boy (I Need You)” and 2013’s “#Beautiful.”

Co-produced by Anderson Paak and based around a sample from Eric B. & Rakim’s debut single, “Eric B. Is President,” from 1987, “Type Dangerous” is a midtempo R&b track that finds Carey shading her past lovers, including Tommy Mottola, whom she divorced in the late 1990s and not-so-diplomatically refers to as “an evil king” in the lyrics. The song is the singer’s first solo Top 10 hit on the R&b chart since 2008’s “Touch My Body.”
