Grease premiered in 1978, and its popularity is still high today, 47 years later. The iconic musical starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John started a franchise that led to a sequel, a prequel series, and an upcoming film, Summer Lovin', currently in production.
Travolta, who rose to fame thanks to the role of the rebellious, bad boy Danny Zuko, is still hopelessly devoted to the role. In a new post on Instagram, the actor revealed he made a surprise appearance on Friday at a Grease sing-along at the Hollywood Bowl. The actor's appearance wasn't complete without a Danny Zuko-approved leather jacket.

Landman Episode 8 did not skimp on bringing in exciting guest stars, as Ben Browder, Maxwell Caufield, and Kamen Casey joined the cast of the Paramount+ series.
With two episodes left in Season 1, Episode 8 has a lot to address ahead as conflict arises between Rebecca and Cooper regarding the settlement money for the bereaved families of the gas explosion that happened in the show's debut season.
Elsewhere, Ainsley defies her father's orders by following her desire to be with Ryder while Angela continues her "calling" in the retirement home.

As we slide into the final episodes of the season, this crazy world is getting even crazier.
From heart attacks to the National Guard playing war games on M-Tex land to curb the drug cartels, it’s clear the story is building toward an explosive finale.
Landman Season 1 Episode 8 proves the narrative has no intention of slowing down, and I couldn’t be happier about that.
(Ryan Green/Paramount+) Just When I Thought Ainsley Was a Lost Cause…
From what I can tell, Ainsley isn’t anybody’s favorite character. She’s teetering on the brink of adulthood without the essential tools any successful adult needs to survive.
It still shocks me that she had never seen a retirement home. On Landman Season 1 Episode 7, her childlike reaction to the realization that people congregate together to die was mind-blowing.

The Netflix rom-com The Merry Gentlemen takes the typical Christmas movie blueprint and throws it out the window. Britt Robertson and Agent Carter alum Chad Michael Murray star in the film, which has a feel-good premise: successful dancer Ashley returns home to save her family's business. But there's an edge to the proceedings, as Ashley's plan -- and her budding relationship with local handyman Luke -- heats up very quickly.
Cbr spoke to Robertson and Murray about what drew each of them to The Merry Gentlemen. Robertson discussed what she loved about Ashley, while Murray detailed diving headfirst into the dance sequences required for the movie's all-male revue that gives the Magic Mike films a run for their money. Plus, what was it like to make a Christmas movie that was so atypical?

Dallas‘ spin-off, Knots Landing, ran for 14 seasons, from 1979 to 1993, and got a two-part sequel movie in 1997. Dynasty’s spin-off, The Colbys, barely squeaked out two years on the air, from 1985 to 1987. Knots Landing may be streaming on Amazon. But The Colbys is perfectly positioned for a weekend binge. Netflix's The Merry Gentlemen and Mother of the Bride have three things in common they premiered in 2024, feature Chad Michael Murray, and weren't well received among critics and audiences alike. While the reception of both films is quite disappointing, the good news is that Murray's next movie (a long-awaited Disney sequel starring Lindsay Lohan) will likely be a hit given its hype and precedent. The actor just has to leave The Merry Gentlemen and Mother of the Bride in the past and look ahead to bigger and brighter things.

The Christmas season is the season of nostalgia, there is no doubt about that. Cozy classic movies to get into the Christmas spirit, hot chocolates with tiny marshmallows warmly hugged by whipped cream, fuzzy socks, and ugly Christmas sweaters. It doesnt really get better than this. Or does it?
Netflix seems to have accepted the challenge, as the streaming service showed that maybe it is time to add something new. Something that no one would even think of. Some spice, if you will, and the conversation is not about a gingerbread spice mix. Netflix did just that. The Merry Gentlemen is only one of the new Christmas movies on Netflix which takes on a rather new approach.

Netflix's new Christmas movie with a Magic Mike twist has become their No. 1 film just days after its release. Since 2017, the streaming service has been producing original Christmas movies, starting with A Christmas Prince. Over the years, the streaming platform has established itself as a top destination for holiday films, including The Princess Switch starring Vanessa Hudgens, and The Christmas Chronicles starring Kurt Russell, both in 2018. Last year, one of Netflix's most popular holiday movies was Best. Christmas. Ever!.
In 2024, several of Netflix's Christmas movies have already topped their Global Top 10 chart for the past three weeks. In the first full week of November, Meet Me Next Christmas ranked first on Netflix's Global Top 10 films with 18.1 million views, followed by Lacey Chabert's Hot Frosty the following week with 16 million views. Chad Michael Murray joins the various famous actors starring in Netflix's 2024 Christmas movies with The Merry Gentlemen, which is reminiscent of the actor's former TV show, Gilmore Girls. Murray starred as Tristan DuGray in The WB's successful comedy-drama series about the relationship between a single mother and her teenage daughter. Unfortunately, Murray only appeared in 11 episodes over the course of the first two seasons of Gilmore Girls before he exited the show.
The Merry Gentlemen is just one of many holiday movies coming to Netflix in 2024. Others include Meet Me Next Christmas, Hot Frosty, Our Little Secret (starring Lindsay Lohan), and That Christmas.
Tristan was one of Rory Gilmore's classmates in Gilmore Girls who was also kind of a bully. He would often tease Rory, most notably about her virginity. As the episodes continued, though, romantic tension between Rory and Tristan began to form, making him a...

As the Thanksgiving holiday and the end of the year quickly approach, there's going to be much more down time from school and work. That means it's time catch up on Netflix new releases and have lots of movie marathons and binge-watches. Thankfully, there's lots coming to our watch lists soon.
Going into the weekend before the week of Thanksgiving, the Netflix top 10 most popular TV shows ranking includes recent releases such as Cobra Kai, which dropped the second part of its final season ahead of its series finale next year, and animated series Arcane.
As for the most popular movies on Netflix right, the sexy Netflix original holiday rom-coms The Merry Gentlemen and Hot Frosty are still bringing in viewers, but there's still plenty more movies to discover on the top 10 ranking and in the weekend's new release lineup.

Peter Sullivan’s “The Merry Gentlemen” (2024) is an entirely bland, uncharacteristic Christmas glossy romance. It’s silly, sporadic and hyper-contrived. The proceedings flatten in a lump of dullness. Charm is amped up between the characters when what exists instead is a complete lack of chemistry. The film is just hollowed out by an absence of specific texture. What could have been a frothy, harmless breezy watch quickly turns tiring, predictable, and terribly uncool. Nothing seems to propel it. It runs on empty. Marla Sokoloff’s screenplay collapses to triteness from the very opening stretch.
You wonder how deeply the makers have invested any thought in strands of the narrative. Conclusion springs easily that none of the considerations in fleshing out a lively, compelling story jump-start. The characters lack a zing in their interactions. Banality crowds the film. A town coming back to life, a dancer replaced in showbiz, and a...

The Holiday season is upon us, and so is the season of unoriginal Christmas-themed rom-coms. With an obvious attempt to disassociate myself from The Grinch, I would like to add that I am quite the sucker for films that embrace the Yuletide cheers. Originality is not the first thing I look for when it comes to Christmas Movies, although it does not hurt when something uniquely joyful wanders into our path at this time of the year — like 2019’s “Klaus” for instance. However, I can look past the obvious, the cliched, for the predictable comfort of a half-decent Christmas movie.
Having said that, there is a fine line that separates the familiar cheers from the absolute trites. And Netflix’s “The Merry Gentlemen” is too hackneyed to be taken seriously. Even with the leniency reserved for films that have more than three Christmas songs, and the leniency that the Holiday season demands of us,...

Starring One Tree Hill and Freaky Fridays Chad Michael Murray and Brit Robertson, the film debuted at the top of the global movie chart. For anyone who has been following this years weekly drop of Christmas cheer from Netflix, it should not come as a surprise at all. T’is the season — for male strippers? Yes, actually. Yes indeed.
Netflix’s new Christmas movie “The Merry Gentlemen” is now streaming, telling story of a young dancer who comes home to find that her parents’ business — and thus, her whole childhood, essentially — may be going under. So, to help save it, she organizes a Christmas-themed male revue to pull in ticket sales.
The movie features a lot of familiar faces, but perhaps some new ones for you too. So, we’ve got you covered.
Here are all the major players in “The Merry Gentlemen.”

“The Merry Gentlemen” is a Netflix romantic comedy starring Britt Robertson and Chad Michael Murray. It is directed by Peter Sullivan.
Today, Netflix adds another romantic comedy to its lineup, this time making a significant contribution to the field of philosophy (disclaimer: we’re being ironic): it brings us a group of handsome men performing striptease acts.
Don’t expect anything that would offend the most traditional families: “The Merry Gentlemen” is the quintessential romantic comedy for the holiday season, perfect for watching, smiling, and then forgetting about within five minutes.

To describe “The Merry Gentlemen” as “The Full Monty” meets a Christmas-themed Hallmark movie might be overselling the goods. However, that’s essentially the elevator pitch for this feature, in which a big-city dancer returns to her small town to save her parents’ concert venue by having hunks go shirtless on stage. Yet director Peter Sullivan and writer/co-star Marla Sokoloff’s offering in the Netflix Holiday Cinematic Universe is uninventive, uninspired and presented with noticeably sloppy wrapping. Not only does the story flail trying to find its footing after a well-presented first act, some of the more cost-conscious aspects detract from the picture’s meaningful, understated sentiments.

The Merry Gentlemen delivers an undercooked Christmas movie that struggles to make sense of itself and the humor falls flat. While Netflix is known for producing new movies and shows at a break-neck speed, it's fair to say that a lot of them feel well-thought-out and executed. The same can't be said for The Merry Gentlemen, which follows in the footsteps of hollow Hallmark Christmas movies that fail to tell a cohesive or engaging story.

Warning: Contains Spoilers for The Merry GentlemenThe Merry Gentlemen is a whole new kind of Christmas film for Netflix, taking more inspiration from Magic Mike than Frosty the Snowman. The Merry Gentlemen follows dancer Ashley as she returns home for Christmas to find that her parents' performing arts venue, The Rhythm Room, is close to closing down. In order to save her parents' business, Ashley hatches a plan to host a Christmas-themed performance by some of their town's most eligible bachelors.
With the help of her friends and family, Ashley creates the revue of a lifetime. The Merry Gentlemen is infused with both classic Christmas spirit and entertaining fun, boasting both heartfelt scenes and upbeat dance sequences. All around, The Merry Gentlemen is a fun time and keeps viewers entertained, and much of what makes The Merry Gentlemen work is the skill of its actors, and their performances as dancers.

The internet has decided that Rex Manning Day from the 1990s coming-of-age comedy Empire Records deserves to be celebrated in real life as much as it does on film. Opening to negative reviews and a poor box office performance, Empire Records could have easily been forgotten as another knock-off of The Breakfast Club, but time has been kind to the Allan Moyle-directed teen comedy-drama. Thanks to some '90s nostalgia, the later success of Empire Record's cast, and a reappraisal of its tight and funny story, the film is now a cult classic.
Empire Records is filled with catchy dialogue and references that might go over the heads of some younger viewers. Characters are noted for their similarities to Warren Beatty and Sinad O'Connor, say things like "Wassup", and engage in ironic anti-establishment banter that's pro-Empire Records, which is itself an establishment. Empire Records did not change the movie game in any way,...

Netflix is ready to bring the Christmas spirit with a spicy twist in the trailer for The Merry Gentlemen released Thursday.
In the trailer, Britt Robertson’s character, Ashley, a former big-city dancer, is determined to save her parents’ small-town performing venue, The Rhythm Room, from closing down. As a means of bringing in more customers, she stages an all-male, Christmas-themed revue.
“We are going to make this show something truly special. Something this town has never seen before,” Ashley says.
With help from Chad Michael Murray, who portrays romantic lead and contractor Luke, and others who work at The Rhythm Room, Ashley creates a new holiday entertainment spectacle known as the Merry Gentlemen (think a tamer Magic Mike but for the holidays.) Though the new show generates excitement, sparks may also fly between Ashley and Luke.

In the trailer for Netflix’s holiday rom-com “The Merry Gentlemen,” Britt Robertson stars as a former big-city dancer who dreams up creative (and sexy) way to save her parents’ small-town performing venue: an all-male, Christmas-themed revue.
Sparks fly between Robertson and Chad Michael Murray as he strips down in the first teaser. “We are gonna make this show something truly special. Something this town has never seen before,” she says as shirtless dancers perform body rolls on stage.
Beth Broderick, Michael Gross, Maxwell Caulfield, Hector David Jr., Colt Prattes and Marc Anthony Samuel also star in the film from director Peter Sullivan and writer Marla Sokoloff (who also acts in the film).
Jeffrey Schenck, Barry Barnholtz, Brian Nolan, and Sullivan serve as producers for the steamy flick, which drops on Nov. 20.
“The Merry Gentlemen” is one of four holiday rom-coms hitting the streamer this season.

The trailer for The Merry Gentlemen has arrived. The upcoming Netflix Christmas movie, which stars Chad Michael Murray and Britt Robertson, follows a young woman attempting to save her family's local performance venue The Rhythm Room by staging a Christmas-themed burlesque revue featuring shirtless beefcakes. The movie's ensemble cast also includes Grease 2's Maxwell Caulfield, Sabrina the Teenage Witch's Beth Broderick, General Hospital's Marc Anthony Samuel, Dirty Dancing (2017)'s Colt Prattes, Wizards of Waverly Place's Maria Canals-Barrera, and The Practice's Marla Sokoloff.
Netflix has now unveiled the official trailer for The Merry Gentlemen. It kicks off by introducing Britt Robertson's character and what the stakes are for The Rhythm Room, which needs to earn a great deal of money before Christmas. However, her idea to stage a Magic Mike-esque burlesque show becomes slightly more complicated when she has strong chemistry with Chad Michael Murray's lead dancer.

Chad Michael Murray is getting his freak on for a “Magic Mike”-tinged Netflix holiday rom-com.
The “One Tree Hill,” “A Cinderella Story,” and “Freaky Friday” alum strips down for “The Merry Gentlemen” in a cabaret-style show to save one small town’s beloved theater. Sounds a little like “Magic Mike’s Last Dance” meets Hallmark? Yeah, we thought so too.
Britt Robertson leads the film as a “former big-city dancer” who “decides to stage an all-male, Christmas-themed revue.” Cue Murray’s character, who also realizes that sparks fly with Robertson’s lead even off-stage.
Marla Sokoloff, Beth Broderick, Michael Gross, Maxwell Caulfield, Hector David Jr., Colt Prattes, and Marc Anthony Samuel co-star. Peter Sullivan directs from a script by actress Sokoloff, who also has starred in and directed Lifetime films like “Christmas Hotel” and “Blending Christmas.”

We mustn’t dwell… no, not today, not on Rex Manning Day. Today marks the 30th anniversary of Rex Manning Day, the fictional day celebrated in the Allan Moyle disaffected teen comedy Empire Records. Rex Manning Day is celebrated to honor the memory and legacy of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, who on April 8th was found dead in his Seattle mansion on Lake Washington Boulevard from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after dying on April 5, 1994.

Sequels to beloved movies often struggle to replicate the success of the original due to cast changes, hiring different directors or writers, or losing the unique spark. Grease 2, Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights, and American Psycho 2 are examples of forgettable sequels that failed to capture the magic of their predecessors. Despite attempts at sequels and prequels, such as Dirty Dancing 2 and Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, the originals like Dirty Dancing and Grease remain the most beloved and enduring films in their respective franchises.
Sometimes a successful movie spawns a whole franchise, and other times, it may lead to a sequel that no one even remembers a few years later. There is no success formula, but critical reception and box office numbers do play a huge role in whether the sequel joins the original movie on the pedestal of eternal fame. There are narrative flourishes and then there are narrative flourishes. And one in the new film from director Amy Glazer (Seducing Charlie Barker, The Surrogate) is a doozy. How much you appreciate this heartwarming drama about a female pilot who discovers that her grandmother may actually be a legendary figure in aviation history will depend on how much you’re willing to go along with its major plot twist, which won’t be revealed here but is relatively easy to figure out. But if you’re willing to suspend some disbelief, 7000 Miles, recently showcased at the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, offers myriad pleasures, not the least of which is a terrific performance by Wendie Malick. The veteran sitcom actress (Dream On, Just Shoot Me, Hot in Cleveland) anchors the film with her charismatic turn in a rare leading role that Katharine Hepburn would have killed for.

Gettysburg is considered one of the greatest battles of the Civil War, and its 1993 movie accurately depicts the famous Little Round Top scene. Both Union and Confederate armies faced ammunition shortages during the battle, as portrayed in the film. The Union's successful defense and counterattack on Little Round Top was achieved through a well-executed military maneuver, which the movie effectively illustrates.
The 30-year-old Civil War movie Gettysburg ages well with a near perfect historical depiction of battle scenes. Written and directed by Ronald F. The cast of Gettysburg, portraying real military figures, included Tom Berenger, Jeff Daniels, Martin Sheen, Maxwell Caulfield, C. Thomas Howell, Richard Jordan, and Sam Elliott.

Grease 2 is the 1982 musical follow-up to 1978's Grease, which starred John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. The sequel featured minimal returning cast members, with Pfeiffer taking the lead alongside Maxwell Caulfield. However, Grease 2 failed to impress, with many seeing it as a lackluster retread of ideas from the first film.
Pfeiffer took to Instagram to defend Grease 2 after she saw herself being misquoted about the film. Her story features a screenshot of an article with her name misspelled alongside quotes attributed to the actor disparaging the film. Pfeiffer quickly points out that the quote is inaccurate, instead speaking on how much the movie ultimately meant to her. Check out Pfeiffer's passionate defense of Grease 2 below:
