In a resurfaced episode of the Powerful Truth Angels podcast from Jan. 30, Glaudini recalled one scene where the film’s star Depp was doing a monologue and director Ted Demme (who died in 2002) instructed her to “burst out laughing” when he said a specific line.

Usually, when we think of holiday movies, we picture feel-good family comedies filled with light-hearted shenanigans and bittersweet life lessons. Okay, and the occasional violent slasher. While we love plenty of those movies, they’re often missing crucial elements of the holidays we experience in real life: sordid disagreements, petty bickering, and, in the words of the great Frank Costanza, the airing of grievances. Well, there’s at least one-holiday dramedy that accurately depicts how the most wonderful time of the year can bring out the worst in us: Ted Demme’s 1994 film The Ref, which tells the story of a cynical cat burglar who makes the biggest mistake of his life when he takes the wrong couple as hostages. Because these two would wear down even the most composed of criminals. It’s a snarky, acid-tongued little gem of a movie, although not necessarily one you’d want to watch with grandma and grandpa.

The reimagined global iteration of the MTV hip-hop series will premiere on Paramount+ on Tuesday, May 24, the streamer announced Monday. In addition, Paramount+ released the official trailer, key art and lineup of featured guests.

Produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, “Yo! MTV Raps” is a comprehensive deep dive into the current state of hip hop. “Yo! MTV Raps” was created by Peter Dougherty and Ted Demme, and launched in 1988 — originally hosted by Fab 5 Freddy, and later by Doctor Dre and Ed Lover. The series ran until 1995.

Convicted drug smuggler George Jung has died. Famously played by Hollywood A-lister Johnny Depp in the 2001 biopic Blow, Jung reportedly died on Wednesday morning at his home in the Boston area. He was 78 years old. A cause of death wasn't revealed, but Jung had recently been experiencing liver and kidney failure. He had been placed in home hospice care since this past weekend, and his girlfriend, Rhonda, and his friend, Roger, were by his side when he passed. Word is Jung will be cremated, though it's not clear what will be done with the ashes.

“Coming 2 America” proves that audience are still itching to see Eddie Murphy onscreen, no matter how long he takes between films. In a recent interview promoting “Coming 2 America,” Murphy bluntly explained why he stopped acting for so many years. “I was making shitty movies,” he said. “I was like, ‘This shit ain’t fun. They’re giving me Razzies…Motherfuckers gave me the ‘worst actor ever’ Razzie. [So I thought], ‘Maybe it’s time to take a break.”

The news comes just before “Once Again” bows in the Market Premieres section of Spain’s Malaga Festival Spanish Screenings, which run Nov. 17-20.

Rojas’ directorial feature debut, which he also wrote, “Once Again” weighs in as one of the more substantial features in the section, clocking in at 112 minutes.

Former Hulu content chief Joel Stillerman is partnering with Endeavor Content on a new television production company.

Variety has learned that Stillerman is launching the Endeavor-backed Content Superba, which will be based in Los Angeles. In addition, Shudder and Sundance Now executive Owen Shiflett has joined the company as senior vice president of development and production.

“We believe the changes in how we access our content are just the tip of the iceberg,” Stillerman said. “The real change that’s upon us is a reimagining of storytelling itself as these new platforms emerge and evolve. Former AMC Networks and Hulu top programming executive Joel Stillerman has launched Content Superba, a Los Angeles-based TV production company backed by Endeavor Content.

Stillerman, who has more than 20 years of experience developing, producing and writing for film and television, has brought in AMC Networks executive Owen Shiflett, most recently VP Development for Shudder & Sundance Now, as Svp Development and Production of the new company.

“We believe the changes in how we access our content are just the tip of the iceberg. The real change that’s upon us is a reimagining of storytelling itself as these new platforms emerge and evolve,” Stillerman said. “There has never been a better time to be the new kids, and along with our partners at Endeavor Content, we’re formally inviting the dreamers, rule breakers, innovators, and inventors to come and play with us.”

“Yo! MTV Raps” is getting a makeover, with fresh versions of the iconic hip-hop show launching around the world. The first of the reinvented “Yo! MTV Raps” will launch in the U.K. later this month; production is underway. A German version will follow next year, with African and Southeast Asian shows in 2019.

It will be the first time that the MTV International-produced series has gone local in these territories and regions. Each version of the show will have two local presenters, with talent announcements coming soon. Highlights will be repackaged for MTV’s social channels internationally. The initial runs will extend to four or five episodes for each market, with about 20 new installments expected in all and the potential for longer series orders.

After a months-long search, Hulu CEO Mike Hopkins announced today that Joel Stillerman will join the company as chief content officer.

In the newly-created position, Stillerman will be responsible for evolving and driving the overall content strategy for the company, and will oversee Hulu’s content acquisitions, originals development and content partner management teams.

Stillerman will join Hulu’s senior management team this summer and will report directly to Hopkins.

Craig Erwich will maintain his current role as Hulu’s senior vice-president and head of content and increase his focus on the company’s original programming.

Hulu’s ready to go beast mode, and has recruited AMC’s programming chief to help it grow its footprint as one of TV’s key streaming services.

Joel Stillerman, who spent nearly 10 years at AMC Networks – most recently as president of original programming and development for AMC and Sundance TV – has been named Hulu’s first-ever chief content officer.

Stillerman’s mandate? Come up with a content strategy that will grow Hulu’s advertising revenue (don’t forget, unlike Netflix, a good chunk of Hulu’s users see ads) and subscriber growth.

Hulu’s subscriber base was around 12 million last year, and at its upfront presentation last week, the company reported 47 million total unique viewers. Director Jonathan Demme, who won an Oscar for directing the 1991 Best Picture winner The Silence of the Lambs, has passed away earlier this morning at the age of 74. According to a source close to the family, the filmmaker passed from esophageal cancer and complications from heart disease. The filmmaker had been treated for esophageal cancer in 2010, and while he did recover, the cancer came back in 2015, and sources said his condition had deteriorated in recent weeks.
