Alicia Silverstone lit up the ’90s when she waltzed onto screens as Cher Horowitz in Clueless. She was out there serving sass, charm, and outfits that still live rent-free in pop culture’s memory. Her whip-smart, sunshiney take on the Beverly Hills matchmaker turned her into an instant teen queen, and her sweet, slow-burn chemistry with Paul Rudd’s Josh gave rom-com lovers one of their favorite comfort couples. The film hasn’t just aged well—it’s practically immortal in the teen comedy hall of fame.
After riding that wave, she slipped into Batgirl’s sleek suit for Batman & Robin (1997), then kept her filmography fresh with everything from the haunting The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017) to the offbeat Bad Therapy (2020) and the slow-burn mystery Reptile (2023). But beyond the big titles, there are corners of her story that many might not know. Here are ten unknown facts about...

Ever since its premiere in 2018, True Detective has become one of the best anthology series on TV. With new suspense, themes, and atmosphere in each season, the show has unraveled four different mysteries, some of which are known for their noir style and great performances, while some miss the mark.
However, despite that, each season delivered its best with its stellar cast, story, acting, and great execution. Still, there has been a progression with every season that affects the audience’s reception and their status as the best, making some emerge as the best, while others remain disappointing.

Early on, actor Adam Scott thought he should have a career like fellow star Ethan Hawke. The actor admitted to being inspired to emulate Hawke during his early days in Hollywood, going so far as to dress and cut his hair like the star.
“If you saw me in, like, 1994, when I was starting out, I was looking at pictures of Ethan Hawke and just being like, ‘Ok, this is what I need to do. My hair, my jacket,'” Scott told THR. “I mean, Ethan Hawke was and is so cool. So of course that’s what I wanted to be.”
Scott was alongside Walton Goggins, Cooper Koch, Diego Luna, Eddie Redmayne, and Jeffrey Wright for the annual Drama Actor Emmy Roundtable. Scott is in the Emmy running for his turn in “Severance” Season 2. It took years for Scott to embrace his own unique acting stardom, rather than try...

Justin Hartley is teasing what fans can expect from his “Tracker” character, Colter Shaw, in Season 3 of his hit CBS series.
“I know we’ll get to the nitty-gritty of why my mother hired this guy,” he told Variety Wednesday at the premiere of his new movie “Bride Hard” in Los Angeles. “Was she protecting her kids? Was an affair happening? Was the government involved? Was it strictly just my mother? Why did she hide that from us for so long? Why did she lead me to believe that it was my brother who was involved when he wasn’t? It seems like this divide-and-conquer thing that she’s doing. It was just an odd thing to do with your children. There’s some deep psychosis there. We’ll unpack that.”
Hartley said he admires the mysterious element of Colter.

Rebel Wilson, who we all know for her bold comedy, has turned into an action heroine in Bride Hard. The movie is directed by Con Air and Lara Croft: Tom Raider’s creative Simon West, so the expectations were quite high. People were looking forward to watching this no-nonsense story with a lot of action.
The feature also stars Anna Camp, Anna Chlumsky, Stephen Dorff, and Justin Hartley. Bride Hard has crashed into theaters with a premise that’s essentially Die Hard with a wedding backdrop. But does Rebel Wilson save the day in Bruce Willis fashion? Let’s break it down!

Rebel Wilson wants to see her “Pitch Perfect” character, Fat Amy, get married in the fourth installment of the comedy franchise.
She hopes the movie will film sometime next year. “There’s a lot of us who are directors now,” she told Variety on Wednesday night at the premiere of “Bride Hard.” “There are many candidates – Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow, Kay Cannon, who is the original writer and Elizabeth Banks, so we’ll see. I’m about to direct another movie, so that keeps me busy until early next year. Hopefully, it’ll go into production next year.”
When asked about what’s next for Fat Amy, Wilson said, “I think there should be a wedding.”

Women can have everything but a personality in director Simon West’s offensively bland work-life balance comedy, “Bride Hard.” Rebel Wilson stars as an American spy on the hunt for a single redeeming quality in Magenta Light Studios’ wedding party-turned-hostage negotiation. It’s been 13 years since Anna Camp broke out with Wilson in “Pitch Perfect,” and the box office success of that franchise made the actresses’ reunion in a new movie inevitable. Still, they deserve a better match than “Bride Hard.”
The problems start with Shaina Steinberg’s misguided and shallow script. A pale imitation of “Bridesmaids” (which earns its punny association with the Bruce Willis action classic even less), Wilson and Camp’s latest film sets out to answer, “Should these childhood besties stay friends?” Instead, it collapses into an ad-laden sameness that is not only deeply unfunny but recalls the infamous “Game Night” question: “How can that be profitable for Frito Lay?...

With the likes of Disney’s 2025 Lilo & Stitch and DreamWorks’ How to Train Your Dragon remake in theaters, the task of having to tackle the current US box office is no mean feat. With that in mind, positive early responses become crucial as word-of-mouth helps to boost ticket sales. Sadly, one of this weekend's box office debutants has had anything but a positive early response, with Rebel Wilson's Bride Hard failing to capture any glowing first reviews.
Because of this, Bride Hard, which was promoted by some as Bridesmaids meets Die Hard, falls far below the bar set by either, earning a poor 27% critics' score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. Although only from 15 reviews to date, this score is likely to stay at a similar level as more are left disappointed by a lackluster comedy with a healthy measure of action. Not even a Pitch Perfectreunionwithco-star Anna Camp could seemingly save this movie,...

A new action-comedy movie featuring a reunion of two of the stars of Pitch Perfect franchise has been met with derision from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. The trilogy of musical comedy movies, which followed the exploits of the college a cappella group the Barden Bellas, debuted in theaters between 2012 and 2019, followed by the one-season Peacock spinoff Bumper in Berlin in 2022.

What do you get when you combine a wedding, some mercenaries, and a world-class secret agent into a 105-minute film? If your director Simon West, you get an absolutely horrendous flick. That's according to critics over on Rotten Tomatoes, at least, who've given Bride Hard just a 10% rating, with some going so far as to call it the "worst movie of the year." Ouch!
West, of course, is the director behind such hits as Nicolas Cage's Con Air and The Expendables 2, so he definitely knows how to make a good action movie. Unfortunately, comedy just isn't his forte, as critic Andrew Parker from The Gate notes in his review that Bride Hard is "a near perfect zero of a film," adding that it's "devoid of anything approaching genuine laughs, mirth, suspense, or decent action." Ben Sherlock from Screen Rant also had harsh words for West's latest, saying:

Rebel Wilson had a bloody accident while filming her new action comedy “Bride Hard.”
In a recent interview with Access Hollywood, Wilson recalled a “massive injury” she sustained during the production of her new film, which resulted from a mishap in fight scene choreography.
“In a fight scene, a gun accidentally got whacked across my face,” Wilson said. “It was just a freak accident, and my nose got split open, so I left set. It was really my last night of shooting. I was like, ‘How unlucky can I be?'”
She went on to say that the accident, which occurred during “the last fight sequence” on the shooting schedule, resulted in a “pool of blood.”
“I was freaking out,” she added. “They take an ambulance and they have to call a plastic surgeon, because if they didn’t, I would have been permanently disfigured. So we got the plastic surgeon,...

I never had high expectations for Bride Hard, but I’ll admit that my fondness for Simon West’s early work – especially the action classic Con Air (1997) and Angelina Jolie’s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) – kept alive a faint hope of finding at least a shred of charm or personality here. Unfortunately, not even that thread of nostalgia was enough to save this production from being one of the most forgettable, poorly executed films of the year.
Written by Shaina Steinberg (The Babysitter: Killer Queen), Bride Hard is led by Rebel Wilson (Pitch Perfect), who plays Sam, a secret agent who agrees to be maid of honor at her best friend’s wedding. What starts as a weekend full of bonding, confessions, and celebration quickly turns into a rescue mission when the event is hijacked by a group of armed criminals. You’ve seen a pitch like this before, maybe in a game design document. It’s the “one-versus-many” setup, but dropped into the middle of a wedding comedy. Bride Hard presents an action-comedy framework built on this simple, chaotic premise.
We meet Sam, a secret agent whose professional life is a series of successful missions, but whose personal life is a mess. The film’s central tension appears when her duties as a Maid of Honor are violently upended. The wedding she’s supposed to be supporting becomes a combat zone when mercenaries crash the party.
The action unfolds on a picturesque private island estate, a stage meticulously set for a perfect ceremony. This idyllic backdrop of floral arrangements and champagne fountains is swiftly shattered by the arrival of an armed force, turning a celebration into a fight for survival.
The structure immediately asks a fundamental question about its hero.

In all likelihood, the pitch for “Bride Hard” was “‘Bridesmaids’ meets ‘Die Hard,’” as it’s a smart shorthand for an easy sell. Audiences who’ve seen both films will instantly recognize the story beats in an innovative mash-up centered on a spy who must win back her friendship with a bride while also juggling wedding festivities that go sideways when mercenaries wreak havoc. Though a bit rough in its execution, made worse by janky visual effects in the third act, the film is buoyed by the gentle comedic charms of the ensemble, sweet thematic resonance and Jackie Chan-style stuntwork. Sam (Rebel Wilson) and Betsy (Anna Camp) have been BFFs for more than 30 years — but maybe not forever, as fissures in their friendship are showing. Sam’s high-stakes job as a secret agent, working for an elite firm on classified missions, has taken priority over everything in her life.

There’s an old expression that goes, “If you can’t think of anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” I propose we update that a little. “If you can’t think of anything nice to say, you’re probably talking about ‘Bride Hard.’”
Let’s be perfectly frank, since I don’t know any other frank way to be: A lot of comedies aren’t very funny, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re terrible. A movie can be light and good-natured and get you through your afternoon even if it doesn’t have a single thigh-slapper. I don’t even think I’m a tough audience for comedies. If you make a bright and competent movie without a lot of laughs I am usually willing to hand wave the whole experience away as a harmless trifle.
But “Bride Hard” harms. It’s abrasively hard to watch.

‘Bride Hard’ Review: Rebel Wilson’s Laugh-Free Action Comedy Is an Invitation You’ll Want to Decline
When a movie is so dire you begin to suspect you’re in for a bad time before the title card drops, you cling to what tiny scraps of fun are to be found like shards of wood in a shipwreck.
So: Oscar winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph deserves much, much better than her minor supporting role in Bride Hard, but she’s respectably game serenading an unborn baby with “My Neck, My Back” or shamelessly flirting with a man of the cloth. Justin Hartley offers some nice bits of physical comedy as an arrogant idiot who incorrectly fancies himself a badass.
Heroine Sam (Rebel Wilson) describing her bridesmaid look as “like if Ariana Grande joined the Real Housewives” and “like the dancing girl emoji” is funny, and accurate. Her use of curling irons as impromptu nunchucks is inventive, though minus a point for the non-zinger “Oh no, your masturbating hand...

"She's not who I thought she was...! She's a total badass secret agent." Magenta Light Studios (a brand new distributor in town) has revealed the first official trailer for Bride Hard, a totally ridiculous action comedy arriving in theaters nationwide in June this summer movie season. A very cheesy concept mashup - take a spy comedy and wrap up with a wedding comedy about a maid of honor who also happens to be an assassin, and here we go. Also looks similar to JLo's Shotgun Wedding last year. It's directed by action movie veteran Simon West. This summer – you are invited to one unforgettable wedding. "Grab your bride or die." When a mercenary group takes a lavish wedding hostage, they have no idea what they are in for as the Maid of Honor is actually a secret agent ready to rain hell-fire upon anyone who dares to ruin her best friend's wedding.

Today, Magenta Light Studios cordially invites us to enjoy the Bride Hard trailer featuring Rebel Wilson as a bridesmaid badass with a wedding to salvage and a nefarious plot to foil!

Pitch Perfect fans might still hold onto the hope that a fourth film gets made, but in the absence of updates, Rebel Wilson's next comedy might help to fill the void. The actress is reuniting with fellow Barden Bella Anna Camp in Bride Hard, playing Sam, a special agent whose latest mission is to be a bridesmaid at her best friend's luxurious destination wedding. Although blending in isn't particularly her forte, the protagonist will be challenged to not blow her cover when the celebration is hijacked by a team of mercenaries, who threaten to ruin the big day with their machine guns and bazookas. Filled with action and Wilson's comedic flare, the upcoming film will arrive in theaters just in time for wedding season.

Westerns can do it all, folks. Celebrated actress Heather Graham can as well, by the way. Dating back to the days of Twin Peaks and Drugstore Cowboy, Graham has graced the screen via a vast array of projects, dabbling in virtually every film genre. That includes the Western genre, both in 2024 when MovieWeb spoke with Graham about Place of Bones, and now as the female lead in yet another Western, Gunslingers. The new film also stars Nicolas Cage and Stephen Dorff — the latter of whom plays her romantic interest of sorts.
Gunslingers lays out a complex backstory involving Graham's character Val and Dorff's gunman persona, Thomas — who has a criminal brother in the mix named Robert (Jeremy Kent Jackson). Adding fuel to the fire, Robert also has love ties to Val. So, why not have them all reunite in a bloodthirsty Kentucky town, which sets the stage for the bullet-laced events of the film?...

This past week marked 35 years since Twin Peaks debuted on ABC, a bittersweet anniversary given that co-creator David Lynch passed away not long ago. The iconic director's cult classic series featured a vast array of famous actors, including Heather Graham as Annie, a diner waitress from Season 2 who was also a love interest to Special Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan). MovieWeb recently caught up with Graham while she was promoting her latest Western film, Gunslingers, and the celebrated actress took time to reflect on her involvement in Lynch's small-screen project — especially as his daughter recently unveiled Lynch's mysterious Hollywood gravestone.
"I'm very grateful to be in Twin Peaks. So many people, it was so meaningful to them, and I'm just grateful to be part of that amazing TV show," Graham told us. "And, you know, he told me to learn how to do Transcendental Meditation, so I'll always be...

The fourth and final season of HBO's spiritual satire The Righteous Gemstones may be its wildest yet. This week's episode, the fifth of the season, wears its cinematic influences on its sleeve, with two plotlines drawing inspiration from two lesser-known films by two of the 20th century's most visionary directors. In a new interview with IndieWire, the show's creators discuss how elements from Stanley Kubrick's Barry Lyndon and George Romero's Monkey Shines made their way into "You Shall Remember."
Barry Lyndon served as the inspiration for a face-off between Jesse Gemstone (Danny McBride) and rival preacher Vance Simkins (Stephen Dorff), complete with slow zooms and Franz Schubert’s “Piano Trip No. 2." Says McBride, film history "is always a point of reference for us, and sometimes that means taking something like Barry Lyndon and injecting it into the stupid s*** we do to try to create something special." Meanwhile,...

Edwin S. Porter’s 1903 “The Great Train Robbery” is widely regarded as one of the first major narrative films — using a then-advanced clutch of techniques to tell a real, almost epic (at 12 minutes) story rather than simply to record a vignette. It also helped solidify the Western as a form specially suited to this new medium, even if it was shot in New York and New Jersey.
Telling a tale that begins that same year, Brian Skiba’s new “Gunslingers” is another “eastern Western,” shot in Kentucky. But the prolific writer-director’s latest provides an illustration of how the genre became somewhat fossilized via formulaic writing and overexposure even before 1950s television began churning out Western content in bulk. The modern-day equivalent of a Poverty Row “oater,” it’s more violent and profane than the sagebrush programmers of yore. Still, those factors can scarcely hide a serious lack of conviction...

From the ‘80s all the way to the early 2010s, Nicolas Cage was one of the most popular actors in all of Hollywood. I became a fan of his after watching Con Air and Face/Off on a loop because they were on TV all the time. But while most of his films were released on the big screen first until 2013, he turned a page in 2014 and didn’t stop starring in direct-to-video movies until 2017. Many were perplexed as to why Cage was tarnishing his image like that, but I think he didn’t shy away from admitting that he was doing it to pay the bills—bills with a lot of zeros in them. It seemed like he was en route to starting a new era by featuring in projects like Mandy, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and Pig. And he kind of did. Nowadays, while he does show up in...

It doesn't take too much to lead to conflict in a Western, and Brian Skiba's Gunslingers understands this. There's no drastic reinvention nor unexpected twists in this tale; instead, it's a recognizable film consisting of pieces from other well-known Westerns from yesteryear. The problem is, all these parts were better executed by their respective influences. Stop me if you have heard this before: The most wanted man in America – Stephen Dorff's Thomas Keller in Gunslingers – rides into a small town and wants to disappear. There's a bounty on his head, but the townsfolk help him to live out...
Writer-director Brian Skiba’s Gunslingers is the filmmaker’s second western to reach theaters this year, following Guns of Redemption just last month, and it feels no less hastily assembled. While the cast of Stephen Dorff, Nicolas Cage, and Heather Graham alone is an upgrade over that of the earlier film’s, there’s little else to keep Gunslingers from blurring together with Guns of Redemption, or any other modern western of its ilk that was always destined to disappear into the limbo of VOD.
Thomas Keller (Dorff) is a wanted man on the run in the Kentucky wilderness. Looking to put his violent past behind him, he arrives at the town of Redemption, which, as its name bluntly suggests, is a haven for outlaws wanting to start their lives over. With the help of the town’s reformed criminal populace, Thomas fakes his own capture and execution, in order...

In a cinematic world overflowing with superheroes in capes, CGI spectacles, and neatly drawn battle lines, a character like Kraven the Hunter stands apart. Kraven the Hunter isn’t just another superhero film—it’s a raw exploration of obsession, survival, and identity. Driven by instinct rather than justice, Kraven’s journey invites comparisons to films that blend action with inner conflict. This list brings together six gripping movies where men are tested by nature, fate, and their own morality, similar to Kraven The Hunter. From vengeful loners to philosophical hunters, these stories echo Kraven’s brutal, introspective spirit in powerful and unforgettable ways.

Get ready to meet The Beatles. In the penultimate episode of "The Righteous Gemstones" season 3 — aptly titled after the Bible verse Isaiah 42:6 — "I Will Take You By the Hand and Keep You," Kelvin Gemstone (Adam Devine) and his longtime confidante Keefe Chambers (Tony Cavalero) finally admitted to each other what audiences (and the entire Gemstone family) have known for years, these two are in love and it's not worth fighting it anymore. Coming to terms with one's sexuality is difficult and can take many years for someone to come to terms with their truth, especially for someone like Kelvin who not only grew up in an extremely religious environment but also in the public eye since birth.
From the show's debut, Devine's performance as Kelvin has been arguably one of the toughest tightropes to walk (and not just because he insists on doing most of his own stunts) as the intentionally closeted youngest son of a world-famous megachurch pastor,...

It's official — Westerns are in. After a couple of decades when cowboys have seen diminishing returns on the big screen, the classic film genre has been returning in a big way. That is all thanks in part to Taylor Sheridan and his Yellowstone universe, but also to some great Western remakes, Kevin Costner's epic Horizon saga, and Oscar-winning films like The Power of the Dog. 2024 was a great year for Westerns, but 2025 is shaping up to be a good one, too, and the upcoming film Day of Reckoning is joining the ranks. The new film stars Billy Zane, Zach Roerig, Cara Jade Myers, Scott Adkins, and Trace Adkins. Directed by Shaun Silva, written by Travis J. Opgenorth, produced by Ali Afshar, Christina Moore, Daniel Aspromonte, and Don Lepore. Esx is bringing the film to theaters on March 28, 2025. Check out the synopsis below:
