One of the best things that has made Game of Thrones such an ongoing phenomenon, even almost six years after its finale, was its iconic cast of characters. The biggest thing that has made those characters so memorable wasn't just due to the writing, but the casting. It's hard to imagine anyone other than Sophie Turner as Sansa Stark or Kit Harrington as Jon Snow. Throughout the series, however, there were quite a few supporting characters that did end up being recast for one reason or another, whether it was personal, creative, or both. Given the length of time between their appearances, not all of these recasts were noticed by the fans, and some of them were even considered to be improvements over the ones who played the characters originally.

In the trailer for the second season of Apple TV+’s psychological thriller Surface, Gugu Mbatha-Raw’s Sophie is still looking to uncover the truth about her past, this time in London.
After season one ended with Sophie embracing her former identity as Tess Caldwell and going back to the U.K. in search of Millie Brady’s Eliza, whose bloody face has been haunting Sophie, the season two trailer finds Sophie still across the pond and having reconnected with Eliza’s posh British family, the Huntleys.
Eliza is shown recalling how Sophie, whom she knows as Tess, used to work at their family’s stables and the two were friends before Tess disappeared.
But Sophie’s not just seeking to reunite with old acquaintances. She’s overheard saying that her mother was murdered when she was very young and that she thinks the Huntleys were involved in her death.

When it comes to Game of Thrones characters whom fans want to see again, there are a couple of usual suspects. Jon Snow is often mentioned; in fact, actor Kit Harington was even working on a follow-up series before it was shelved. Fans have also expressed interest in seeing what happens next to Arya Stark (Maisie Williams). There are hints that something could be in the works there, although nothing definite.
But Game of Thrones had a ton of characters beyond those two. Recently, Bang Showbiz asked Tara Fitzgerald (Selyse Baratheon) if she'd ever be interested in coming back. “Oh god, of course yeah! That was something that I was really blessed to have been a part of that show," she said. “I love that show. I really love the show. So, of course. I’m sure any of the other actors would say ‘yes.’"

Tara Fitzgerald loved the “poeticism” of 'Portraits of Dangerous Women' director Pascal Bargamin. The 57-year-old actress plays Tina in the Swiss filmmaker’s comedy drama film about three women - school caretaker Tina, unhappy teacher Steph (Jeany Spark) and smart teenager Ashley (Yasmin Monet Prince) - who are thrown together when two of them both run over a dog in their separate cars and she admitted the helmsman’s passion and connection with his cast was one of the reasons why she said yes to the project. She exclusively told Bang Showbiz: “He’s very passionate. Super smart. He has a sort of poeticism and sort of understands artists. “I think that’s a very big draw about the film - it talks about artists. I think it’s a very important part of my life. And he has that sensitivity. “But he’s also really good at...

Portraits of Dangerous Women transports viewers to a strange narrative realm that questions established storytelling conventions. The film, directed by Swiss filmmaker Pascal Bergamin, revolves around an unpleasant road event involving a dog that brings together three women: an unhappy teacher, a strange caretaker, and a troubled artist. This arrangement feels fanciful and perplexing, reminiscent of Jean-Luc Godard’s humorous narrative technique.
Bergamin balances between hilarity and poignant moments, reflecting contemporary cultural fears about connection and authenticity. The cinematography captures the grandeur of rural Britain, while the editing incorporates jarring shifts that mirror the characters’ shattered lives. This unique design highlights the themes of disconnection and unexpected friendship in the film.
Finally, Portraits of Dangerous Women bridges the gap between indie and mainstream cinema, providing a new viewpoint on how we relate to one another in an unpredictable world. It is a reminder of the film’s ability to mirror societal complexities,...

Surface, fans. We have some good news for you! The last time we saw a new episode of the psychological thriller starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw was in September 2022 on Apple TV+. Only a few months later in December that year, the streamer announced that it had renewed the show for a season 2. However since then, we've been waiting to see what comes next in the complicated life of Sophie/Tess. Well, we finally have an update.
Surface season 2 premieres sometime in Winter 2025 on Apple TV+, per a press release. I know this is still a bit vague and not an exact release date. But you know what, I'm going to take what I can get at this point because since the streaming service announced the renewal news, we haven't gotten much updates.
So this release window means that the show will most likely return and begin streaming at some point between...

Anthony Waller’s newest scary story, the Pied Piper of Hamelin, is based on a story from hundreds of years ago and turns into a terrifying modern nightmare. This movie brings an old German myth about treason, supernatural revenge, and the effects that last for generations to modern Hamelin, giving it new life.
At its heart, the story is about Liz Haines (Elizabeth Hurley), a history teacher who moves to Hamelin with her teenage daughter Amy (Mia Jenkins) and falls into a dark magical trap without realizing it. The town’s famous story about a mysterious musician luring away children as punishment for people breaking their vows is more than just a footnote in history.
The movie combines the original folktale with modern horror elements, making the Pied Piper into an angry ghost that still walks the streets of the Middle Ages. In contrast to other retellings, this one delves deeper into the mind,...

Three unlikely women are pitched together by a muddled plot with results that are short on both drama and comedy
This bafflingly peculiar and lifeless dramedy comes from Swiss film-maker Pascal Bergamin, who is based in Zurich and London and has released some English-language work in the past. This film has a rural British setting with British characters played by British actors, but it has the feel of something Google-translated from another project, perhaps with a European setting; there is a repeated and weirdly emphatic reference to two art dealers from the German town of Cottbus, mysterious individuals who never appear on screen, and whose existence does not serve any satisfying or interesting purpose.
But that objection could be raised against every single character in the film. A strange – and strangely unconvincing – event brings three women together. Steph (Jeany Spark) is an unhappy teacher; Tina (Tara Fitzgerald) is a...

Paul McGann takes on extra business while Tara Fitzgerald brings sparkle to this low-key tale of a funeral director who gets mixed up with a local gangster
This low-key thriller, set in the late 1950s-early 60s judging by the costumes, harks back to the regional British crime flicks of that period, the sort of movies where penny-stakes gangsters and spivs in shiny suits clash over who will control the ration-card black market. Writer-director Michael Wright clearly has a yen for this milieu and takes care to get the argot right in this tale of Arthur Morel (Paul McGann), a reticent funeral director who gets mixed up with local hoodlum Finlay (Roger Barclay) in a northern town. Finlay needs a bit of help burying the excess bodies his shady business generates, or “loose ends” as he describes them.
It’s not immediately clear why Arthur agrees to take on this shady extra business,...

Exclusive: Byron Allen’s Freestyle Digital Media has acquired and set release dates for Kindling, a coming-of-age drama starring George Somner with Mia McKenna-Bruce, and Objects, a documentary from Vincent Liota.
Watch the trailers for both below.
Inspired by true events, Kindling follows the story of a group of young men who return to their hometown to turn their terminally ill friend’s final summer into a celebration of life, love and friendship. Facing mortality, Sid (Sex Education‘s Somner) wants to create a legacy and be remembered forever. With his obsession for astronomy and the atmosphere, he comes up with a plan. He gives each boy a category — love, home, friends, family and location — and asks them to find an item that connects them all with the word they’ve been given. Together, they’ll burn the items on a gigantic fire, making the particles and his memory a part of the atmosphere forever.
