Jason Statham's Divisive 42% Rotten Tomatoes Thriller Leaves Streaming Soon
Image
If you’ve been putting off watching Homefront, consider this your official warning: The Jason Statham revenge flick is leaving Prime Video on July 31. Yes, the same film that’s somehow managed to outstream Titanicin 2024 is about to be pulled from your queue — and you really shouldn’t miss your chance to see Statham at his most Southern-fried and skull-shatteringly effective. Released in 2013, Homefront is a blue-collar, bullet-laced action thriller directed by Gary Fleder and written by none other than Sylvester Stallone himself. The premise is peak "Dad Movie": Statham plays Phil Broker, an ex-DEA agent trying to raise his daughter in a sleepy Louisiana town. Unfortunately, this particular town comes with meth labs, backwoods crime, and one James Franco chewing up the bayou as local drug kingpin Gator Bodine. Things escalate. Bones break.

It’s the kind of role Statham was born to play — tight-lipped, tank-topped, and terrifyingly competent in a fight.

'Game of Throne' Star's Western Dethrones Jason Statham and Sylvester Stallone's Thriller on Streaming
Image
Out of all movie genres, Westerns have a charm that attracts all kinds of viewers. There’s something about the dry, rugged, brutal world that keeps the viewers engaged and connected to the story. This charm has now helped Peter Dinklage’s The Thicket to dethrone Jason Statham’s Homefront on streaming charts. Per FlixPatrol, a day after the Tubi original’s debut on Amazon Prime, the movie has risen to the #8 spot, while Statham’s Homefront dropped to #10. With The Thicket debuting in the top 10, we can expect the movie to rise to a better spot on the charts in the coming days and weeks.

12 Years Later, Jason Statham's Divisive 42% Rotten Tomatoes Thriller Remains a Global Streaming Hit
Image
You know what never goes out of style? A bald guy with a British accent punching people in the face. Case in point: Homefront, the 2013 action-thriller starring Jason Statham, which just muscled its way back into the global conversation. According to Flix Patrol, Homefront is now the eighth most-streamed movie on Prime Video as of June 27 — beating out not only The Beekeeper (another Statham special) but even James Cameron’s Titanic. Let that sink in. Titanic sank twice.

The film's comeback is no fluke. Originally released in 2013 and directed by Gary Fleder from a script by none other than Sylvester Stallone, Homefront follows ex-DEA agent Phil Broker (Statham), a man just trying to live a quiet life in small-town Louisiana with his daughter. Unfortunately, he picks the wrong town, and soon finds himself tangling with local meth kingpin Gator Bodine (played with backwoods flair by James Franco). Toss in Winona Ryder,...

Jason Statham & Frank Grillo's Forgotten Action Thriller Climbs the Streaming Charts 12 Years Later
Image
One of Jason Statham and Frank Grillo's most underrated movies is now a streaming hit.

Per Flix Patrol, 2013's Homefront has officially reached the number eight spot on the list of the top 10 films streaming on Prime Video for June 27. This marks a two-place climb from where it previously sat, with Homefront now leading ahead of both The Beekeeper and Titanic. The top spot is currently dominated by The Accountant 2, which is followed by Deep Cover and The Accountant in second and third.

Directed by Gary Fleder from a screenplay by Hollywood icon Sylvester Stallone, which itself was adapted from the novel of the same name by Chuck Logan, Homefront stars Jason Statham as Phil Broker, a retired DEA agent whose last raid involved the takedown of a drug lab owned by Chuck Zito's crime boss Danny T. When Phil's daughter Maddy is bullied at school, her...

Jason Statham Knocks Down Tom Cruise With 42% Rotten Tomatoes Thriller Climbing Streaming Charts
Image
After kickstarting 2025 withA Working Man, Jason Statham is riding a wave of momentum — but not just from his newest blockbuster. Homefront, the 2013 action-thriller penned by Sylvester Stallone, is suddenly one of the most-watched movies on Prime Video. As of mid-June, it’s sitting at #9 on the U.S. Top 10, one spot ahead of Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, which holds at #10. Not bad for a film with a 42% Rotten Tomatoes critic score.

So what’s fueling the resurgence of Homefront? Call it the Statham effect. When he’s not blowing up international box office charts with recent hits like A Working Man — which grossed nearly $100 million worldwide — fans are diving back into his catalogue for more of that no-nonsense, knuckle-breaking catharsis. And Homefront delivers exactly that.

Directed by Gary Fleder, the film stars Statham as Phil Broker, a former DEA agent hoping for a quiet life in small-town Louisiana with his daughter.

‘Ballerina’ Shoots Past Jason Statham’s Forgotten 42% Rotten Tomatoes Thriller at Global Box Office
Image
After a tremendously difficult production that reportedly saw a significant chunk of it being retooled, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina debuted theatrically last week, only to go from the frying pan into the fire. The movie opened in the wake of two major releases, Disney's Lilo & Stitch remake and Paramount's Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, which certainly took the wind out of its sails. Ballerina underperformed in its first weekend of release, both domestically and worldwide. However, the action movie has already outperformed several comparable titles, such as three major Jason Statham films — Crank, The Transporter, and Expend4bles. More recently, the movie surpassed the lifetime global box office haul of Statham's largely forgotten 2013 release, Homefront.

Directed by Gary Fleder, the movie also featured James Franco, Winona Ryder, and Kate Bosworth. Homefront ended its run with $51 million at the worldwide box office, and earned a so-so 42% Rotten Tomatoes score.

Jason Statham's 12-Year-Old Action Thriller Written by Sylvester Stallone Rises on Streaming Chart
Image
Prime Video subscribers cannot get enough of Jason Statham. Two of his action movies have made the streamer's Top 10 list, and one of them was released over a decade ago.

Per FlixPatrol, a site that tracks viewership across the streaming platforms, Statham's 2013 action thriller Homefront is sitting at No. 9 on Prime Video's Top 10 Movies list. The actor stars in the Gary Fleder-directed and Sylvester Stallone-written movie as retired Drug Enforcement Administration agent Phil Broker, who leads a peaceful life with his daughter Maddy. However, trouble begins to brew as the father and daughter get entangled with local crime boss, Gator, played by James Franco, due to a school bullying incident. Winona Ryder, Kate Bosworth, Frank Grillo, and Clancy Brown also star in Homefront, which was adapted from the novel of the same name by Chuck Logan.

Jason Statham's 42% Conspiracy Thriller With a 'Stranger Things' Star Dominates Prime Video's Top 10
Image
After kickstarting 2025 with A Working Man, Jason Statham is seeing a major resurgence—this time from a decade-old action thriller that’s suddenly found new life on streaming. Homefront, the 2013 conspiracy flick co-starring Stranger Things alum Winona Ryder, has cracked Prime Video’s Top 10 in the U.S., currently holding the #6 spot as of late May. So why the comeback? Part of it’s the Statham effect. When he’s not obliterating box office charts with recent hits like A Working Man—which grossed nearly $100 million worldwide—fans are revisiting his back catalogue for more hard-hitting, skull-cracking catharsis. And Homefront delivers.

Written by Sylvester Stallone and directed by Gary Fleder, the film follows Phil Broker, a former DEA agent hoping to leave his violent past behind in a quiet Louisiana town. The Boys' New York City Vought Tower Is Actually One Of Toronto's Fanciest Places To Listen To Music
Image
Although "The Boys" is famous for its over-the-top violence and supe-related sexual mayhem, what it should be most famous for is its absurdly non-New York depiction of New York City. The show's first four seasons were filmed in Toronto, and the final season will be filmed there too; this isn't a new practice for American TV, but rarely has a show put so little effort into disguising what it's doing. Even "Scream VI," a movie whose setting was easily identifiable as Montreal to any Canadian viewers, put more effort into the New York aesthetic than "The Boys" has.

Perhaps the coolest example of "The Boys" shamelessly showing off Toronto is with the Vought Tower. In the show, the tower is an imposing skyscraper, with a top floor that the Supes in the Seven can use to gaze down at the city. Most of the building is fake, but the base...

Jason Statham And Sylvester Stallone's Gritty 2013 Crime Thriller Is Prime Video's Latest Obsession
Image
When Sylvester Stallone wrote "Rocky" as a way to launch his career, he infused his script with plenty of heart and character development, revealing himself to be a talented writer with a sensitivity for which fans of his action filmography don't always give him credit. That said, there's no doubt that the man has a talent for bombastic action. 1982's "First Blood," in which his John J. Rambo debuted, was all the better for having Stallone in the lead role, with the star making changes to the script by removing much of the macho posturing in favor of a more restrained approach. Stallone added what became the defining feature of "First Blood" to the script, and ever since, has been crafting engaging action tales.

As the years went by, however, Stallone frequently embraced a formulaic approach. The retired badass with the "I don't do that any more" attitude exists, in part,...

Jason Statham's Thriller Movie Collaboration With Sylvester Stallone Trends On Streaming 12 Years Later
Image
Jason Statham’s thriller movie collaboration with Sylvester Stallone is a streaming hit 12 years later. Stallone and Statham have shared the screen four times, playing mercenary comrades Barney and Christmas in the Expendables series.

The Expendables stars’ numerous collaborations indeed represent a union of two different movie eras. Stallone was the co-ruler of 1980s action, alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger. Statham established his own stoic action-hero persona beginning with his early Guy Ritchie films, and continuing through a string of hard-hitting vehicles, culminating with his arrival as a big-budget franchise stalwart in the Fast & Furious series.

Jason Statham’s 42% Rotten Tomatoes Conspiracy Thriller Is Chasing ‘Reacher’ on Streaming Charts
Image
After opening up the year with A Working Man, one of Jason Statham’s older movies has resurfaced on streaming charts more than 10 years later. Statham stars alongside Stranger Things veteran Winona Ryder in Homefront, the 2013 conspiracy thriller following a former DEA agent who moves to a quiet town but soon begins to get tangled up with a drug lord and his local meth operation. Homefront falls just behind Reacher, the action series led by Alan Ritchson, which sits at #8. Statham’s action film earned a 42% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but the audience-driven Popcornmeter lands at a slightly higher 61%.

The 13 Jason Statham-est Jason Statham Movies, Ranked
Image
Jason Statham wasn’t always an action movie legend. He started out as a competitive diver, and even modeled for Tommy Hilfiger and Levi’s. But as soon as he made his big screen debut in Guy Ritchie’s “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” it was obvious. A star was being born.

Statham’s gravely voice, martial arts talent and toned physique served him well, and he quickly became one of the most recognizable action heroes of the 21st century, starring in billion dollar blockbusters and quirky crime thrillers, with a smattering of tough as nails or just plain weird genre films in the middle. And sometimes he also pokes fun at his grizzled persona, proving that he’s having just as much fun as we are.

Not every Jason Statham movie is great, but a lot of them are better than they get credit for. And even the silly ones are often 100% pure Statham.

Stallone also wrote the screenplay for the 2013 Statham action film Homefront, which was directed by Gary Fleder and based on a novel by Chuck Logan. Now, Statham and Stallone are continuing their working relationship with the action thriller A Working Man, which also reunites Statham with his The Beekeeper director David Ayer – and looks to be very much along the same lines as that film. A Working Man is set to reach theatres on March 28th, and in anticipation of its release, we decided to put together a list of everything we know about the movie. Here we go:

Hollywood is now mourning actor Gene Hackman, 95, and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, 63, who passed away in February this year. The actor, who won two Oscars, was a big movie star with over 100 acting credits.

The news of his death came as a shock despite his age, especially with the deaths initially labeled as suspicious. Their causes of death have since been revealed, with Awakawa reportedly dying as a result of hantavirus pulmonary syndrome and the actor passing away of heart disease and complications from Alzheimer's. Gene Hackman's $80M Penultimate Movie Lands On Netflix's Global Chart 22 Years Later
Image
One of the last movies of the late Gene Hackman has entered the Netflix Top 10 Global Movies chart 22 years after its initial release. Hackman was one of the most revered and successful actors in movie history, and enjoyed a strong filmography, which included a diverse mix of both blockbusters and character-driven dramas. He shot to prominence with early roles in movies like Bonnie and Clyde and I Never Sang For My Father before achieving global recognition and leading man status with the role of Popeye Doyle in William Friedkin's crime thriller The French Connection.

Hackman won an Oscar for his performance and reprised his role in the follow-up The French Connection II. He then went on to star in a number of successful and critically acclaimed box office hits, including Superman, Superman II, Mississippi Burning, and Unforgiven, for which he won his second Oscar. The John Cusack & Gene Hackman Thriller Sitting High On Netflix's Top Charts
Image
The recent death of Gene Hackman has prompted many cinephiles to revisit their favorite films featuring the two-time Academy Award-winning actor -- though, really, regardless of what's going on in the world, any movie lover worth their weight in celluloid is never far removed from watching a Hackman flick because the man made so many classic, rewatchable pictures. The most valuable thing we can do as film buffs right now is to turn younger cinephiles on to the man's multitude of brilliant performers, because some of these kids were born after his 2004 retirement from acting.

For those just becoming acquainted with Hackman, it's important to understand that there's no ideal way to watch his movies. You can throw a dart at Hackman's filmography, and even if you hit a lousy movie like "Loose Cannons" or "Superman IV: The Quest for Peace," you're at least going to get Hackman being an...

Dustin Hoffman Compares “Genius” Gene Hackman To Marlon Brando: “A Giant Among Actors”
Image
After more than 60 years in Hollywood, Gene Hackman has left an indelible mark on his fans and peers alike.

Dustin Hoffman, who starred with Hackman in the 2003 feature adaptation of John Grisham’s Runaway Jury, paid tribute to his longtime friend in a heartfelt statement after the 2x Oscar winner died at age 95.

“I met Gene in acting school, at the Pasadena Playhouse, when he was 27 and I was 19. We used to play congas together on the roof, trying to be like our hero Marlon Brando,” he said.

“And Gene was like Brando, in that he brought something unprecedented to our craft, something people didn’t immediately understand as genius,” added Hoffman. “He was expelled from our school after three months for ‘not having talent.’ It was the first time they ever did that. He was that good. Powerful, subtle, brilliant. A giant among actors. I miss him already.”

The former military operative appears to be lucking into an arc of fate when he rescues a young man named Richard Beck from being snatched. It leads to Alan Ritchson's Reacher bonding with him and becoming part of his father Zachary's criminal empire.

This all turns out to be by design. Reacher is a spy who infiltrates this criminal organization in a way that fans of the Fast & Furious movies and The Departed would love. However, as his quest unfolds in the three-episode premiere, it turns out to be part of his most dangerous...

A classic Alex Cross thriller is headed to a new streaming home for the new year.

Per Paramount+, 1997's Kiss the Girls will be joining the streaming platform's library on January 1. 15 Movies Clearly Inspired by Pulp Fiction
Image
Quentin Tarantino's influence on modern-day filmmaking is undeniable, but unlike most artists, his impact was felt almost immediately upon his emergence as a director, especially following Pulp Fiction. Imitation is said to be the sincerest form of flattery, and in the aftermath of the release of that movie, which Roger Ebert once prophetically said would be "the most influential film of the next five years," the market was flooded with a host of imitators.

In short, Pulp Fiction became a formula. Take one helping of eccentric (if not sympathetic) criminals, combine it with a cast of either rising stars or reclamation projects, a script that avoids chronological convention, a soundtrack composed of underappreciated hits, and, most importantly of all, copious amounts of dialogue sprinkled lovingly with numerous pop-culture references. Quentin Tarantino didn't invent any of these ideas; he simply synthesized them in such a way that inspired others to try themselves.

Cross | Trailer released for James Patterson series on Amazon Prime
James Patterson
James Patterson’s Alex Cross book series is heading to the screen once again, and here’s the trailer for Cross.

Thus far, James Patterson’s Alex Cross action thriller novels have only been seen on the big screen. Morgan Freeman first took on the role of the detective for 1997’s Kiss the Girls, directed by Gary Fleder, and 2001’s Along Came A Spider, directed by Lee Tamahori. Both were well received and feature strong casts, including Ashley Judd, Carey Elwes and Michael Wincott.

A reboot landed in 2012, directed by Rob Cohen and starring Tyler Perry. However, Alex Cross was a critical and commercial failure, and plans for a sequel were dropped.

That brings us to Cross, a television series coming to Amazon Prime Video which follows Reacher's template of using the protagonist’s surname as the title.

The synopsis reads as follows:

Alex Cross (Aldis Hodge) is a detective and forensic psychologist,...

The Correct Order To Watch The Alex Cross Movies
Image
If you're a big fan of trashy, popular airport mystery paperbacks, you probably know who James Patterson and Alex Cross are. Patterson is a highly successful author (he's the first person to ever sell one million e-books), and while these days he seems to let other people write for him and then just slaps his name on the cover and cashes a check, his early books were authored solo. And when he wrote those early books, he created Alex Cross, a character who has appeared in several books now. Cross is a brilliant Metropolitan Police Department detective who often hunts down twisted serial killers. He's the type of ready-for-the-screen character that people love to watch, so it makes sense that there have been multiple Alex Cross movies — and there's a new Alex Cross TV series on the way, too, headed to Prime Video.

For now, we're just going to focus on the movies.

Morgan Freeman' James Patterson Thriller Kiss the Girls Storms the Global Netflix Chart
Image
Kiss the Girls gains new audience on Netflix after its initial 1997 release. Despite poor critical reviews, the film resonated with audiences and performed well at the box office. Prime Video's new series Cross starring Aldis Hodge may capitalize on the Netflix success and Reacher's popularity.

Kiss the Girls is storming the Netflix chart almost three decades after bringing James Pattersons Alex Cross to the big screen for the first time in 1997. Although the film was critically panned at the time of its release, like many older movies, the films arrival on Netflix has given second life to a movie that would otherwise be languishing on DVD shelves and relying on occasional airings on network television to reach new audiences.

Directed by Gary Fleder and adapted from James Patterson's best-selling novel of the same name, the film stars Morgan Freeman as forensic psychologist Alex Cross and Ashley Judd as Dr.

Update: Sony is changing-up its platform of the Tom Hanks movie A Man Called Otto. The pic will now go exclusive in LA and NY on Dec. 30 followed by limited break on Jan. 6, and a further wide on Jan. 13, the latter point always part of the plan. The studio is pivoting their release plan over three phases given the great word of mouth they received on the title. The Marc Forster directed movie made its premiere to LA audiences last night at the Academy Museum.

In addition, they’re pulling their Screen Gems horror film True Haunting off the schedule for the time being. That pic most recently planned to go on Jan. 6, 2023. The Gary Fleder directed title follows the terrifying story of the first televised exorcism on NBC in 1971. The NBC news segment was a success, the exorcism was not. Instead, it made things worse for the Becker family who lived there.
