Krysten Ritter Hints at Unfinished Business as Mia in Dexter: Resurrection and It Could Change Everything
Image
Dexter: Resurrection has been one hell of a ride and has served fans in ways they couldn’t have imagined. But it isn’t Michael C. Hall’s Dexter Morgan who stole the show, but Krysten Ritter’s enigmatic and hot serial killer, Mia.

A seductive and charming character who infiltrates a serial killer club and ends up setting up a brilliantly carried out mysterious ‘suicide’ setup, Ritter revealed in a recent interview with Collider that Mia’s time in the series might not be over yet.

For me, this role was absolute candy, and I had so much fun doing it. So, we’ll see. Maybe it’s not the end of this character. We’ll see.

While Episode 6 gave viewers a better look at Mia’s motivations and tangled connection to Dexter’s new world, Ritter’s hints suggest that her arc may be far from over...

Rewatching Scandal Reminds Me: Olitz Was That Couple
Image
Listen, if you’re Team Jake. Or hell, even if you’re Team Edison (they do exist!), I need everyone to really think about which man it was always going to be for Olivia Pope.

Whether you liked it or not, she was forever tethered to one man and one man only: Fitzgerald “Fitz” Grant III.

Rewatching the series back now has only strengthened my belief that, at the end of the day, Olitz was simply just meant to be.

(Hulu/Screenshot)

If you’re screaming in righteous indignation right now, keep screaming, of course, but the thing about it is that you never deny that Olitz chemistry.

It’s one of those rare television pairings that works on every single level: quality acting, intense on-screen connection, and open rapport.

You can not manufacture the kind of on-screen connection Kerry Washington and Tony Goldwyn had.

Image
Warning! This article contains Spoilers for Dexter: Resurrection season 1, episode 4.Krysten Ritter has a prominent role in Dexter: Resurrection as Mia, a serial killer named "Lady Vengeance," but she almost had a role in the original Dexter 19 years ago. Mia is one of the new serial killers Resurrection introduced, and she's already drawing comparisons to Dexter's Lumen Pierce for her choice to exclusively target sexual predators.

During an interview with ScreenRant's Ash Crossan at San Diego Comic-Con, Krysten Ritter spoke about how special it was to be cast in Dexter: Resurrection and revealed that she was offered a small role in Dexter season 1 back in 2006.

[Dexter]'s such a cultural staple, and it's one of the great shows and the fact that these characters get to keep going and telling story the way the great shows do [is] rare. Now it feels like a lot of television is...

Major Law & Order Star Makes A Shocking Exit After 3 Seasons
Image
Mehcad Brooks will not be returning to Law & Order for its 25th season. Brooks played Detective Jalen Shaw for three seasons, replacing Anthony Anderson in 2022. The actor, who was previously seen on ABC's Desperate Housewives and who will reprise his role as Jax in the upcoming Mortal Kombat II, was a favorite among Law & Order fans.

Brooks' exit was reported by Deadline. His decision to leave the show was reportedly mutual and due to a desire to explore other acting opportunities. Brooks' exit from the franchise marks the third departure of a detective character since the show's revival in 2022, following both Anderson and Jeffrey Donovan.

Breaking Bad Star's Disturbing Horror Remake Finds Life on Streaming 16 Years After Leaving Critics Disappointed
Image
The Last House on the Left has entered HBO's streaming charts, drawing new audiences to the 2009 horror remake. The film is not for the squeamish, but fans of violent, explicit revenge movies will find it cathartic.

2009's The Last House on the Left is HBO's tenth most-streamed movie as of Jul. 18, per FlixPatrol this week. A remake of Wes Craven's 1972 revenge flick, The Last House on the Left followed the original's story beats; it also doubled down on the graphic violence. The film received mixed reviews but was a modest commercial success, grossing $46 million against a $15 million budget. It still ranks as one of the best horror remakes, despite its (gratuitous) depiction of torture and sexual violence.

Craven agreed to produce the remake if it improved on the original's pacing and scope. A bigger budget also allowed for more creative leeway, including bringing director Dennis Iliadis onboard. The film...

'Law & Order’ Season 25 Faces Major Shakeup as a Significant Cast Member Exits
Image
Law & Order faces a major shakeup ahead of its landmark Season 25. Deadline reports that Mechad Brooks, who plays Detective Jalen Shaw, is exiting ahead of the upcoming season. Brooks starred as Detective Shaw for three seasons. Deadline reports that the "parting of ways" was mutual and Brooks is already "exploring other opportunities." Deadline confirms, however, that Tony Goldwyn, Reid Scott, Hugh Dancy, Odelya Halevi, and Maura Tierney, will return for the Dick Wolf police procedural's 25th season. Brooks' Detective Shaw replaced Anthony Anderson's Detective Kevin Bernad, and now there is a new vacancy at the 2-7 once again. Fans noticed Detective Shaw's quiet, minimal presence in the back-half of Season 24, with Detective Shaw not even in the crossover event with Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

'Law & Order' Is Not the Only Show Facing Shake-Ups

It seems that most of the Dick Wolf procedurals are facing changes ahead of their respective seasons.

‘Law & Order’ Shocker: Mehcad Brooks Exiting Ahead of Season 25
Image
Law & Order is once again losing a detective. Mehcad Brooks, who has played Detective Jalen Shaw since Season 22, having been introduced in the premiere, will not be returning, Deadline reports. The finale in the spring didn’t even hint at his exit, so the Season 25 premiere will have to explain what happened, likely in a conversation between his now former partner, Vincent Riley (Reid Scott), and the new detective or Lieutenant Jessica Brady (Maura Tierney). The outlet reports that everyone else will be returning for Law & Order Season 25: Maura Tierney as Lieutenant Jessica Brady, Reid Scott as Detective Vincent Riley, Hugh Dancy as A.D.A. Nolan Price, Odelya Halevi as A.D.A. Samantha Maroun, and Tony Goldwyn as District Attorney Nicholas Baxter. Goldwin and Scott’s contracts had previously only taken them through Season 24. Mehcad Brooks Exits ‘Law & Order’ After 3 Seasons
Image
Mehcad Brooks has solved his last case on “Law & Order” after three seasons, TheWrap has learned.

The actor, who joined the cast as a series regular in Season 22 as Detective Jalen Shaw, has left the series ahead of Season 25. The decision was mutual from both Brooks and the show’s creative team, as the actor pursues other opportunities.

It’s unclear if Brooks’ character will receive a farewell on the show or if his exit will be explained off-camera. Casting is underway for a new detective to join the cast in his absence.

The rest of the “Law & Order” team is set to return for the milestone season. That includes Tony Goldwyn and Reid Scott, whose contracts were also up for renewal this year. The rest of the ensemble includes Maura Tierney, Hugh Dancy and Odelya Halevi.

Mehcad Brooks Leaving ‘Law & Order’ After 3 Seasons
Image
Exclusive: Mehcad Brooks is departing NBC’s Law & Order after three seasons as Detective Jalen Shaw ahead of the venerable crime drama’s upcoming 25th season, Deadline has learned. According to sources, the parting of the ways was mutual, with Brooks already exploring other opportunities.

The rest of the Law & Order main cast, including Tony Goldwyn and Reid Scott, whose contracts were up at the end of last season, Hugh Dancy, Odelya Halevi and Maura Tierney, are set to come back, sources said. As Deadline reported in May, most actors on NBC’s Law & Order and Chicago franchises will be in fewer episodes next season as part of a cost-savings measure.

Brooks stepped in as a detective on Law & Order in 2022, filling the void left by the departure of Anthony Anderson. Casting of a new detective has just gotten underway.

Christopher Nolan's $976 Million Thriller With 93% on Rt Dominates the Global Streaming Charts
Image
Christopher Nolan has directed a series of successful projects in different genres, including superhero films, sci-fi, and biographies. The latter turned out to be his most successful release thanks to Oppenheimer.

The biopic was part of a greater cultural phenomenon in 2023, alongside Barbie, and it ended the year as the third highest-grossing title. Oppenheimer was also the highest-grossing biography of all time, and an awards darling, taking home several, including Best Achievement in Directing for Nolan. Per FlixPatrol, Oppenehimer's success continues on streaming as it dominates the charts on Prime Video.

Oppenheimer was a big success in theaters as well, as well as on streaming after its release on Peacock months after its theatrical run. As Nolan is working on his next project, the star-studded The Odyssey, viewers (re)discovered Oppenheimer on streaming. The biographical drama found success on Netflix worldwide, where it was predominantly popular in Europe.

‘Ghost’ at 35: How Jerry Zucker pivoted from ‘Airplane!’ and ‘Naked Gun’ spoof comedy to an unlikely Best Picture nominee
Image
At first glance, Jerry Zucker wouldn't seem like the kind of filmmaker to have a ghost of a chance at crafting a Best Picture-nominated film. But that unlikely event came to pass 35 years ago when the codirector of spoof comedies like Airplane! and The Naked Gun made the supernatural romance Ghost. Released on July 13, 1990, the film went on to become the year's biggest domestic box-office hit and a surprise Oscar powerhouse.

Zucker rose to Hollywood fame as a member of the Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker trio that included brother David Zucker and their friend, the late Jim Abrahams. Together, they wrote The Kentucky Fried Movie before helming seminal comedies Airplane! and Top Secret!.

Hot on the heels of their 1986 non-spoof comedy hit Ruthless People, the team locked down a two-year deal with Paramount Pictures. That deal launched with a bang thanks to The Naked Gun, based on their short-lived TV series, Police Squad.

Dexter Can’t Stay Dead. So Here Are 37 Thoughts From My Rewatch That I Couldn’t Keep to Myself
Image
You can’t keep a good serial killer down — especially not when there’s IP to exploit.

Dexter Morgan is set to return (again) in Dexter: Resurrection, despite being definitively killed off in New Blood and then casually voiceover-resurrected in Original Sin (a show I loved).

But before Showtime unpacks another bloody chapter, we took a trip down memory lane. And let’s just say… wow. The things we overlooked the first time around? Absolutely unhinged.

(Showtime/Screenshot)

Dexter is poised for yet another chapter. And frankly, it’s the perfect time to revisit the madness that got us here.

While rewatching the series, I noticed just how many moments — big, small, and plastic-wrapped — have aged into either brilliant nuance or total unhinged chaos.

From bizarre kill rituals to forgotten guest stars, these are the 37 things living rent-free in my head.

The 6th Day (2000) – What Happened to This Sci-Fi Action Movie?
Image
It may be hard to remember today with all we’ve been through as a people in the last twenty-five years, but back in the late 90s and early 2000s, cloning was a scorching hot news topic. Though we don’t agree on mostly anything these days, back then there were legitimate reasons for vehement opinions on both sides as the ability to clone pets and humans began to feel eerily reachable. Naturally, Hollywood stepped in to do what Hollywood does. They gave us a humorous but sneakily deep-thinking Sci-Fi/Action flick about all of the discourse surrounding cloning, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. And he almost died making it. This is the story of what happened to The 6th Day.

When husband/wife writing duo Marianne and Cormac Wibberley sold the second script they’d written together to Disney to break onto the scene, they were shocked by how quickly they...

5 Reasons Why an Arnold Schwarzenegger Cult Classic Outplayed ‘Mickey 17’?
Image
Bong Joon Ho possesses a once-in-a-generation directorial voice, which made the banality of “Mickey 17” all the more surprising. In theory, a sprawling sci-fi epic about clones helmed by the “Snowpiercer” director should’ve been another sleek, genre-bending masterpiece. Instead, it stumbled and faltered at the box office, receiving mixed reviews.

While it’s by no means a bad film, a plucky 2000 action flick starring Arnold Schwarzenegger tackled the concept of cloning with a stronger plot, greater stakes, and a bit more fun. “The 6th Day” wasn’t groundbreaking, but it left a more substantial impact on the genre than anyone could’ve predicted. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s cult classic might even outlast “Mickey 17” as the definitive cloning movie of this era.

Here are five reasons why Schwarzenegger’s campy clone adventure makes “Mickey 17” look like an underbaked replica.

Adam Evolves. Mickey Just Suffers.

As an audience, we’re...

Dennis Iliadis' 2009 revenge film "The Last House on the Left" is about Mari (Sara Paxton), a young woman who, while hanging out with her friend Paige (Martha MacIsaac), is brutally kidnapped by a group of recently escaped prisoners. The prisoners attempt to drive off with their victims, but there is a fracas in the car when Mari and Paige start to fight back, causing them to accidentally crash into a tree. In revenge, the prisoners stab, sexually assault, and then shoot their captives.

Seeking shelter, the prisoners arrive at a local lake house ... not knowing that it belongs to Mari's parents (Tony Goldwyn and Monica Potter). Of course, it's only a matter of time before the latter duo figures out what's happening and discover what the prisoners did to Mari. Amid How to Train Your Dragon's Success, Gerard Butler's 2-Year-Old Action Thriller Continues to Thrive on Streaming
Image
Gerard Butler has always been a popular action actor, and that continues to be true to this day. As he enjoys a lot of success with the live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon in theaters, the actor also found success on streaming.

Butler's two-year-old action thriller Plane is now continuing to thrive on streaming. The film was a critical and commercial success when it hit theaters in 2023. Per Tudum, the success continues as, shortly after its release on the platform on June 12, Butler's Plane is already a streaming hit.

Netflix Is Now Streaming All 7 Seasons of One of the Top TV Hits of the 2010s
Image
If you’ve been craving a new binge-watch you can really sink your teeth into, Netflix just added all seven seasons from one of the best Shondaland series from the ABC era — the extremely juicy political drama, “Scandal.”

The acclaimed hit series stars Kerry Washington as the now-iconic Olivia Pope, former media consultant (and lover) to the president, who shaped his campaign from a diamond in the rough to the leader of the free world … until she decided to strike out on her own with her esteemed and feared crisis-management firm.

Creator Shonda Rhimes is a familiar name on Netflix, where her Shondaland banner has produced the juggernaut period romance hit “Bridgerton,” as well as its spinoff series “Queen Charlotte,” Emmy-nominated miniseries “Inventing Anna” and, most recently, a return to the White House in the charming murder-mystery “The Residence.” But before her beaucoup bucks streaming megadeal with Netflix, Rhimes was...

The Partnership: ‘Hacks’ Stars Jean Smart And Hannah Einbinder On Upcoming Season 5, Wanting To Do Stunts & The Importance Of Shooting In LA
Image
In ‘Hacks’ rollicking rollercoaster of a fourth season, comedy cohorts Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder traversed all-out war, touching reconciliation and a shocking outcome. As Smart’s veteran comedian Deborah Vance reached for the brass ring of a talk show hosting gig, her fear of failure created a world of hurt for Ava Daniels (Einbinder) and much disruption for their agents Jimmy (co-showrunner Paul W. Downs) and Kayla (Megan Stalter). But, as always, Deborah and Ava led viewers through it all with a chemistry that leaps off the screen and has served the HBO Max show’s hit status all the way to its recent Season 5 renewal. Here, Smart and Einbinder describe a bond so tight, they often seem to finish each other’s sentences, and how it felt to shoot a season filled with vitriol toward each other—a risk that would ultimately pay off, but required trust and the bedrock of true friendship.

‘Hacks’ Renewed for Fifth Season at Max
Image
Hacks is entering the record books at Max.

The streamer has renewed the series for a fifth season, which will make Hacks the longest-running live-action show in Max’s (admittedly not very long) history. Series creators and showrunnners Paul W. Downs, Lucia Aniello and Jen Statsky announced the renewal Tuesday evening at an Emmy FYC screening in Los Angeles.

The pickup for the Emmy-winning comedy from Universal Television comes two days before its fourth season finale. The current season has seen Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) realize her dream of hosting a late-night talk show — though with more strings attached than she would like — with Ava Daniels (Hannah Einbinder) as her head writer.

Hacks premiered in May 2021, when the streaming service where it runs was known as HBO Max. It has continued since the platform changed its name to Max in April 2023 — and with the renewal, season five will stream on...

But we don’t take for granted how fortunate we are to get to do it. We were really excited because we’ve always known where we want the story to conclude, and so to be able to continue to build towards that is so satisfying.”

It’s no surprise that Max renewed “Hacks.” So far, the comedy has been nominated for 48 Primetime Emmys. The series...

Jason Statham’s Franchise-Starting Classic Finds a New Streaming Home
Image
As we head into the month of June, Peacock is inviting subscribers to enjoy a heavy dose of high-octane action, as the Jason Statham favorite, The Mechanic, is set for a streaming release. The title will fall in line with numerous other favorites on NBCUniversal’s platform beginning on June 1. This is the perfect opportunity for those who haven’t yet taken the dive into the Statham-led series of films to jump into the action and see what it’s all about. With a 54% critics’ approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s obvious that the movie was a divisive production upon its theatrical arrival in 2011, but given that it eventually received a sequel just a few years later, there’s certainly still plenty to love for the Statham fans out there.

In The Mechanic, Statham stars as Arthur Bishop, a professional hitman known as a “mechanic” who has the uncanny...

Paul W Downs is spilling the tea on a celebrity who turned an appearance on Hacks, not once but three times!

The 42-year-old star and co-creator of the hit Max series recently went on Jimmy Kimmel Live and revealed the A-List star who simply just doesn’t want to guest star on the comedy.

In the show’s fourth season alone, there have been several big name guest stars, including Helen Hunt, Tony Goldwyn, Rosie O’Donnell, Melissa Etheridge, Carol Burnett and more.

Paul W. Downs Reveals The Hilarious Way Cher Turned Down A Cameo Appearance On ‘Hacks’
Image
Despite the Hacks creative team’s best efforts, it seems Cher did not, ahem, believe in the need for her cameo role on the HBO Max comedic satire.

Earlier this week, co-creator Paul W. Downs appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to discuss the fourth season of the Emmy-winning Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder vehicle, which is coming to its season finale on Thursday. As the show finds itself in the world of late-night comedy, Downs along with co-creators Lucia Aniello (to whom Downs is married) and Jen Statsky were able to convince many a famous person to cameo as themselves — Kimmel among them — but there have definitely been some rejections, though perhaps none as brutally honest and funny as from Cher.

“Oh, yeah,” Downs replied when asked by the host if anyone had declined an appearance. “Well, one person in particular we asked to be on the show Seasons 1, 2 and 4 — and that person is Cher.

‘Hacks’ Blows Up Deborah Vance’s Dream in Episode 9, and Hits the Reset Button
Image
Note: This story contains spoilers for “Hacks” Season 4, Episode 9.

“Hacks” blew up Deborah Vance’s dream Hollywood job in Thursday’s latest episode, and the Max series now heads toward its latest metamorphosis.

The Max comedy series hit the reset button with Season 4 Episode 9, titled “A Slippery Slope,” after a controversy erupts in Deborah’s (Jean Smart) now No. 1 late night show. After she is encouraged to book the star of a franchise movie owned by her show’s parent company, Deborah gets into trouble after a joke she makes alluding to troubling allegations against the actor.

The network tells her to cut the joke from the broadcast and she acquiesces, much to Ava’s (Hannah Einbinder) disappointment. While licking her wounds about being forced to help launder a man’s reputation, Ava accidentally tells her former employer, the producer of a another show called “On the Contrary.” This led...

‘Hacks’ Star Tony Goldwyn on Deborah’s Shocking Sacrifice for Ava & Wrestling Jimmy
Image
[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Hacks Season 4, Episode 9, “A Slippery Slope.”] Hacks delivered its biggest twist to date in the latest Season 4 installment, “A Slippery Slope,” as Deborah (Jean Smart) essentially blew up her dream by defying the powers behind her late-night show, Bob Lipka (Tony Goldwyn). After Winnie Landell (Helen Hunt) was fired when Deborah complained about her, Bob became more directly involved in the day-to-day operations of Deborah’s show. When he suggested that Deborah host Ethan Summers (Eric Balfour), an actor accused of abuse, who she and Ava (Hannah Einbinder) had previously agreed would not appear. Bob wanted it done to cross-promote the company’s film with Ethan, Shadow Soldier, and so Ava and Deborah took the opportunity to craft an interview that would put the actor on the spot with a joke. In the end, the joke was nixed, and Ava was really upset, which led her to vent to former...

Image
Warning: The following story contains spoilers about the ninth episode of Season 4 of Hacks, "A Slippery Slope."

Not to be hyperbolic, but Thursday's episode of Hacks might be its most important one yet. "It is the most pivotal episode of the series so far," co-creator, co-showrunner, director, and star Paul W. Downs says on the latest episode of Awards Magnet.

In "A Slippery Slope," written by Downs and fellow creators and showrunners Lucia Aniello and Jen Statsky, the repercussions of network head Bob Lipka (Tony Goldwyn) doing Deborah (Jean Smart) a "favor" the previous episode by firing Winnie (Helen Hunt) start to build when Bob asks Deborah to have scandal-ridden movie star Ethan Sommers (Eric Balfour) on her show. After Deborah acquiesces when she's asked to cut her joke about his secret Snapchat, a peeved Ava (Hannah Einbinder) spills all to her old On the Contrary boss Lewis (Aristotle Athari...

ABC's best Tgit classic sets streaming return on Netflix this summer
Image
One of Shonda Rhimes' best shows is about to make a triumphant return to streaming, landing on Netflix just in time for a summer binge. No, it's not How to Get Away with Murder, but it is another Tgit staple. It's the smash hit political thriller series Scandal, which introduced us to the brilliant and impeccably dressed crisis manager Olivia Pope, played by the incomparable Kerry Washington.

With its return to Netflix this summer, it'll be the first time in five years since Scandal streamed on the platform. After adding the seventh and final season in May 2018, Netflix removed the entire series from its platform two years later in May 2020. The political thriller was streaming on Hulu for a while, though it has since been removed. As of May 19, the political thriller is available to stream on Tubi with ads.
