Harrison Ford Candidly Reflects On His Only Oscar-Nominated Role After A Recent Channel Surfing
Image
Harrison Ford, widely revered as a cinematic treasure, has enjoyed a career spanning over seven decades, earning recognition as one of the world's highest-grossing actors. His career began in earnest with modest appearances in George Lucas' American Graffiti (1973) and Francis Ford Coppola's The Conversation (1974), hinting at his future promise.

Ford's breakthrough came with his iconic portrayal of Han Solo in Star Wars, a character he embodied across five installments over 40 years. His legacy was further solidified through his role as adventurer Indiana Jones, along with memorable turns as the brooding replicant-hunter Rick Deckard in Blade Runner, and Jack Ryan in political thrillers of the early 1990s.

These performances cemented Ford's image as a rugged, charismatic action star and one of Hollywood's most commercially reliable leading men from the late 1970s to the 2000s. Despite numerous accolades, including multiple Golden Globe and SAG nominations, Ford has only received a...

Christopher Nolan's Inception Had A Prequel That Is Impossible To Watch Today
Image
It's hard to convey just how much hype there was around Christopher Nolan's "Inception" leading up to its release in 2010. The mysterious marketing campaign, the vague teaser trailers ... it all pointed to a cinematic event that would take the culture by storm -- and it did. Nolan certainly benefitted from the critical acclaim of his previous film, "The Dark Knight." Add in Leonardo DiCaprio, a stacked ensemble, and a "Matrix"-esque concept, and you had a massive hit on your hands.

While the film's trailers are well-remembered (thanks in large part to that musical "Bwahhhh" sting that quickly infiltrated all future trailers forever), one piece of the marketing lead-up to "Inception" has been lost to time, and unfortunately, it's the piece with the most actual narrative content. Before the movie came out, fans were treated to a prequel motion comic entitled "Inception: The Cobol Job," featuring the voice talents of the real cast.

Harrison Ford's 94% Rotten Tomatoes Crime Drama Roger Ebert Called “Electrifying” Is Now Available to Stream for Free
Image
If you’re tired of buddy-cop shootouts and action-comedy hijinks, it’s time to trade the explosions and wisecracks for something with a little more heart — and a lot more craftsmanship. Witness, Harrison Ford’s haunting 1985 crime drama, is now available to stream for free on Pluto TV starting July 1. It’s a hidden gem that defies genre expectations and delivers one of Ford’s quietly powerful performances.

Directed by Peter Weir, Witness begins like your typical on-the-lam thriller. A young Amish boy, Samuel (played by a very young Lukas Haas), witnesses a murder in a Philadelphia train station. Enter Detective John Book (Ford), who takes the boy and his mother, Rachel (played by Kelly McGillis), under his protection. But when Book discovers the killers are corrupt cops, he retreats with the pair to their Amish home in rural Pennsylvania — where the true story begins.

What sets Witness apart from...

Randall Emmett & WGA Settle Unpaid ‘Pump’ Writers Dispute; Producer Coming Off Strike List
Image
Exclusive: After five years in the Writers Guild of America’s really bad books, The Irishman producer Randall Emmett has settled his debt with the Guild over not paying four scribes for work on a TV series.

Under an agreement with the Guild worked out over the past few weeks, Emmett wired $630,000 to the WGA West this morning. The Guild confirmed to Deadline that the funds have been received, but had no further comment.

Emmett will be coming off the Guild’s Strike/Unfair List, I hear.

The producer has been on the WGA Strike/Unfair List since 2020 after two of his companies — Emmett Furla Oasis Films, LLC and Pumped, LLC — failed to pay an arbitration award of $477,000 to four writers for work they did on the never made TV series Pump. The show was supposed to star Arnold Schwarzenegger but he exited the project, bringing it to a premature close.

Natasha Lyonne Says Paul Reubens Told Her He Knew Her Rehab Stint Was ‘Inevitable’: ‘Remember, I Met Your Mother’ | Video
Image
Natasha Lyonne has seen a lot of life in her 46 years, and it all started with her on-screen debut as a child actor on “Pee-wee’s Playhouse.”

The lifelong performer — best known for her recent string of streaming hits “Orange Is the New Black,” “Russian Doll” and “Poker Face” — has never shied away from sharing her struggles with addiction in her teen and young adult years, a battle that culminated in a 2006 court-ordered stint in rehab. And in a recent interview on Amy Poehler’s “Good Hang” podcast, Lyonne revealed a touching memory of how “Pee-wee’s Playhouse” creator and star Paul Reubens was there for her through that time.

As recalled by Lyonne, to hear the late Reubens tell it, he was not all that surprised when things “went south” with her health. He chalked it up to the upbringing he saw firsthand working with her on his beloved children’s program.

These 15 Space Movies Are a Must-Watch if You Like ‘Apollo 13’
Image
After 30 years, if Apollo 13 had you holding your breath and biting your nails when Tom Hanks said, “Houston, we have a problem,” then buckle up, we’ve got a whole galaxy of movies you’ll want to launch into next. These space flicks bring the drama, the danger, and yes, the floating-in-zero-gravity slow-motion shots we all secretly love.

Some are based on real NASA-level heroics, others are full-blown sci-fi rollercoasters with exploding planets and rogue AI, but they all have one thing in common: they’ll keep you stuck to your seat like Velcro in a spaceship.

From astronauts having identity crises to missions gone sideways faster than a rocket launch, these movies pack thrills, emotion, and a lot of “don’t push that button!” moments. So, if Apollo 13 was your jam, these 15 picks are your next mission. No space suit required, just snacks, curiosity, and maybe a stress ball.

Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, and Andy Garcia in Ocean's Eleven (2001)
High Rollers review – John Travolta leads a charmless casino raid of staggering stupidity
Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, and Andy Garcia in Ocean's Eleven (2001)
Travolta and a team of misfits are forced to raid a tawdry gambling den, but the stakes are disappointingly low in this ineptly made work

Here is a cheap-ass knockoff of Ocean’s Eleven starring John Travolta that makes the Soderbergh film look like something by Andrei Tarkovsky or Ingmar Bergman. High Rollers is a heart-slowing work of staggering stupidity and charmlessness, ineptly made and quite frankly dull except when its flaws become so egregious you can’t help but guffaw.

The idea is that Mason Goddard leads a rodent pack of skilled thieves and conmen. The gang is first met at the beach wedding of two of the group’s younger members, tech whiz Link and dim hunk Caras (Swen Temmel). Alas, the nuptials are interrupted when international criminal Salazar (Danny Pardo) and his henchmen swoop in and kidnap Mason’s wife Amelia. Salazar demands that Mason and his crew,...

Studios and Films We Like as a film decidedly ahead of its time.

Breakfast of Champions

High Rollers Review: Charm vs. Coherence on the Bayou
Image
Mason Goddard (John Travolta) returns with his ragtag crew for a casino caper that picks up where Cash Out left off—though you’d never know it if you hadn’t seen the predecessor. They sweep from a sun-baked beach wedding straight into a drone-drift cinematics sequence, chasing a digitized MacGuffin through the glittering halls of Zade Black’s Louisiana palace.

In this sequel-lite, the South’s storied gambling culture doubles as a metaphorical crucible: where chance and greed converge, the house doesn’t always win.

Travolta’s Mason, equal parts cocky philosopher and smooth operator, guides us through smoky poker rooms that feel like modern-day forums for economic desperation. His younger brother Shawn (Lukas Haas) reminds us that family ties can be as brittle as playing cards.

This film snaps between high-altitude drone shots and sudden close-ups so jarring they seem intentional—a visual wink at our own fragmented attention spans.

Our first official look at Nicolas Cage's Spider-Man Noir is here, and it's perfect
Image
Spider-Man is one of the most popular Marvel superheroes ever created, which means he's had no shortage of adaptations over the course of the years. However, there will be no better time to be a fan of the web-slinger than 2026. Next year will see the release of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Avengers: Doomsday (in which we hope Peter Parker appears), and, of course, the first-ever live-action Spider-Man Noir adaptation.

Nicholas Cage will portray a darker and more violent version of Peter Parker who isn't afraid to use guns in the MGM+ and Amazon Prime series. Expectation was already at an all-time high given that the beloved actor did a flawless job voicing Spider-Man Noir in the Spider-Verse saga. But to take things a step further, set pictures of the live-action adaptation revealed that the wall-crawler is set to sport a comic-book accurate look, which...

Here’s your first look at ‘Spider-Noir’ starring Nicolas Cage
Image
The Spider-Verse is spinning off.

At its annual upfront presentation Monday, Amazon gave a first look at Spider-Noir, the upcoming Spider-Man installment coming to MGM+ and Prime Video in 2026.

Nicolas Cage stars in the series, which is his first regular TV role. The Oscar winner voiced a version of the character in the animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, but the series is live-action. According the official description, "Spider-Noir tells the story of an aging and down on his luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero." It's based on the Marvel Comics series Spider-Man Noir.

Episodes will first air on the MGM+ linear network and stream the following day on Prime Video. And in what might be a TV first, the series will presented in both black and white and color.

Spider-noir First Look Reveals Nicolas Cage's Spider-Man Noir In Upcoming Amazon MGM+ TV Series
Image
With the first Ironheart teaser expected to be released tomorrow and Superman's trailer confirmed for Wednesday, it's shaping up to be a busy week for news.

As for Monday, we're kicking things off with an official look at Nicolas Cage's Spider-Man in Amazon and MGM+'s Spider-Noir TV series.

The wall-crawling private investigator has already been spotted in set photos, but this spectacular black-and-white image is like seeing the comic books—and 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse—come to life in live-action.

Cage can be seen striking an iconic Spider-Man pose and will clearly be able to shoot webs in the show. Whether Spider-Noir can right the ship for Sony after disappointments like Madame Web, Morbius, and Kraven the Hunter remains to be seen.

It's interesting that this still has been presented in black-and-white because Spider-Noir star Lukas Haas previously said, "We filmed it in - I...

'Spider-Noir' Image Shows Nicholas Cage as Aging Spider-Man Superhero in Prime Video Series
Image
Fans have finally been given their first official look at Nicolas Cage as Spider-Noir. While there have been several leaked set images of Cage taking on the live-action role he first played in Sony's Into the Spider-Verse, a new look at the character was shared by Amazon ahead of their Upfront 2025 presentation.

Peter Weir
Witness - Antoni Konieczny - 19642
Peter Weir
Outrageously billed as a story about a cop becoming Amish to solve a murder, Witness is no mere procession of thriller and culture-collision tropes. Instead, it unfolds as a patient, affecting study of human connection in unusual circumstances. The hybridised identity of Peter Weir’s film - Amish neo-noir? - signals a refreshing narrative approach that’s never in a rush, and all the better for it.

A young Amish boy, Samuel (Lukas Haas), ventures outside his insular, pacifist community for the very first time. Things take a brutal turn when he witnesses a murder in a Philadelphia train station restroom. John Book (Harrison Ford), the hardened detective assigned to the case, learns that his mentor is involved in the crime. Severely wounded and wanting to protect the boy, he returns Samuel and his mother, Rachel (Kelly McGillis), to their self-sufficient farm community - a world that has resisted change for centuries.

It's hard to believe the latter film was released 10 years ago at this point, the sole film that has earned Leonardo DiCaprio an Academy Award for Best Lead Actor. Alongside him in The Revenant was a talented ensemble that included longtime performer Lukas Haas, whose latest film, High Rollers, is now available on demand and digital. MovieWeb recently caught up with Haas while he was promoting the movie, and the actor took time to share about his experience working with Iñárritu — especially as the director's star-studded next film is taking shape.

"We stay in touch here and there. I have not heard much about his new film, but it sounds really cool.

‘High Rollers’ VOD Review
Image
Stars: John Travolta, Gina Gershon, Lukas Haas, Quavo, Noel Gugliemi, Natali Yura, Danny Pardo, Demián Castro | Written by Chris Sivertson | Directed by Ives

High Rollers is the sequel to 2024’s sleeper B-movie Cash Out (which I did see but barely remember) reuniting audiences with John Travolta’s slick criminal mastermind, Mason Goddard. Directed by the enigmatic “Ives” (which I guess is Randall Emmett hiding behind a pseudonym). This casino-heist actioner aims to up the ante from its predecessor’s modest thrills, trading small-time bank jobs for the neon-lit excess of a Louisiana gambling empire. With a bigger budget (while still constrained) and a glossier sheen, High Rollers wants to be the Ocean’s Eleven of the straight-to-streaming world. With this entry it could quite possibly hit that mark. Still, on first watch it’s somewhere between a guilty pleasure and a really enjoyable watch, a film that’s sporadically entertaining but...

Could Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Noir series get a black-and-white release?
Image
I’m really looking forward to Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Noir, and one actor on the series has teased that it could double down on the film noir aspect. While speaking with ComingSoon.net, Lukas Haas said Spider-Noir could be released in black-and-white. I’d be into that.

“We filmed it in — I think it may come out in both black and white and color, but when we filmed it, the monitors were all black and white, so you got this feeling and it looked very, very authentic,” Haas said. “To the point that I would actually go and look at the monitor and think I was looking at some older footage, but it was actually just a monitor of what was on the camera at the time. They did a beautiful job with the filters and all that stuff, making it look like genuine old 1930s, black and white film.

'Inception' Star Shares Hilarious Story About Slapping Leonardo DiCaprio in Christopher Nolan's Action Movie
Image
Lukas Haas, the star of films like The Revenant, First Man and Lady White, has revealed a startling detail about his experience making Inception with Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio. In Christopher Nolan's acclaimed sci-fi action thriller, Haas gives life to Nash, one of the "architects" that DiCaprio's Dom Cobb works with. While his role is small, Haas recalls having to get physical with DiCaprio's character when Nash is forced to wake him up from a deep sleep. A big no-no in the world of Inception. The actor recalled that, per DiCaprio's standards, he was pulling back when having to slap the actor, but DiCaprio gave him the green light to slap him harder to make the scene more authentic.

Haas is currently promoting his latest movie, High Rollers, and he spoke to ComingSoon about his experience on the film, his upcoming superhero project Spider-Noir, and working with Christopher Nolan...

'Spider-Noir' Star Lukas Haas Praises Nic Cage & Brendan Gleeson
Image
If one of your favorite versions of the famed webhead from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) was Spider-Man Noir — voiced to perfection by Oscar-winner Nicolas Cage — then fret not. That's not the last you've heard from the scene-stealing webslinger. In fact, Cage will be reprising his role in glorious live-action form with a highly anticipated new Spider-Man series for MGM+, Spider-Noir. It features a stellar cast alongside the celebrated star, including longtime performer Lukas Haas. MovieWeb recently caught up with Haas while he was promoting the release of his new caper film High Rollers, a quick follow-up to last year's release Cash Out. Haas also took time to reflect on his experience shooting Spider-Noir.

"It was a really, really cool project to be a part of. I had a great time working on that. Nic is so cool and awesome," Haas told us. "And Brendan Gleeson is amazing. He plays my boss.

'It Looked Very, Very Authentic': Nicolas Cage's Spider-Noir Co-Star Teases Black and White Release
Image
Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming live-action Spider-Noir series is shaping up to be one of the most visually distinct Marvel adaptations to date.

Set in a gritty, crime-ridden version of 1930s New York, the show will introduce a unique take on the Spider-Man mythos, starring Con Air's Nicolas Cage as the hardened, noir-inspired hero. While Cage previously voiced the character in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018), this will mark his first live-action portrayal of the fan-favorite alternate-universe Spider-Man.

While many details about Spider-Noir remain under wraps, the series is expected to fully embrace the classic film noir aesthetic. According to Spider-Noir co-star Lukas Haas in an interview with ComingSoon, Spider-Noir was shot in a way that captures the shadowy, dramatic visuals of classic noir cinema.

“It was just an incredible project,” Haas shared in the interview. “We filmed it in—I think it may come out in both black and white and color,...

Nicolas Cage's 'Spider-Noir' Live-Action Series Could Release Color and B&w Versions
Image
Amazon's upcoming Spider-Noir series has received a surprising update from actor Lukas Haas, who has suggested that viewers may find two different viewing experiences available to them when the series finally arrives on Prime Video. Living up to its name, Haas has suggested that, as well as being able to watch the unconventional superhero show starring Nicolas Cage in color, there is a chance that a “noir” black and white version will be released as well.

Compared to network television, streaming opens many options up when it comes to how shows are put into the world, including the ability to vary episode lengths, episode counts, and how many versions are released. Speaking to ComingSoon, Haas said of the upcoming Marvel-based series:

“It was just an incredible project. Everybody involved was amazing. Brendan Gleason, he plays my boss. Just getting to, to do that noir thing. It was very genuine film noir,...

Spider-noir Star Believes Upcoming TV Series Starring Nic Cage Could Be Released In Black And White
Image
Spider-Noir remains in production and, if the set photos we've seen are any indication, the web-slinger's first TV series will put a unique new spin on Spider-Man.

Screen icon Nicolas Cage plays Ben Reilly, a private eye who moonlights as a superhero. We've seen him swinging into action on set, suggesting the series will be very much in line with the comics, even though those featured Peter Parker under the mask. Why Spider-Noir is named after his clone hasn't been made clear.

Lukas Haas has landed a mystery role in the show and, during a recent interview with Coming Soon, suggested the series could be released in black and white as well as colour.

"It was just an incredible project," he told the site. "Everybody involved was amazing. Brendan Gleason, he plays my boss. Just getting to, to do that noir thing. It was very genuine film noir, the way they filmed it,...

1 of Bruce Willis' Last Films With 8% Rotten Tomatoes Score Finds New Success On Streaming
Image
Bruce Willis is one of the most prolific and popular action heroes, often playing hard-edged characters in different films. Although the actor has retired from acting, his movies continue to attract a lot of interest, even those with poor reviews.

Before retiring, Willis starred in many low-budget independent thrillers and sci-fi films, often collaborating with production company Emmett Fula Oasis. One of the films he last starred in was 2021's Midnight in the Switchgrass from the same production company. Although the movie was critically panned, the crime thriller has become a hit on Netflix, Tudum reveals.

Midnight in the Switchgrass just debuted on Netflix and, between the week of March 3 and March 9, reached number seven in the global Top 10, with 4.5 million views and 7.5 million hours viewed. This is quite an achievement, considering theonly country the film reached the Top 10 was the U.S., taking over the third spot just behind...

'High Rollers' Review: John Travolta Robs a Casino in 'Cash Out 2'
Image
Taking a different route from past beloved movie franchises, the filmmakers behind John Travolta’s new caper sequel opted for a standalone title rather than simply Cash Out 2. The mildly entertaining initial feature hit the masses barely a year ago, and the production of High Rollers had already been completed by the time Cash Out was being promoted, as confirmed by our 2024 interview with star Lukas Haas.

Hass plays Travolta’s brother, with their latest high-stakes crime story taking them from a uniquely modern bank heist to a snazzy casino robbery this time around. It’s a breezy popcorn flick that seems to convey just one message to viewers by the end, as noted in our recent interview with another one of the stars, Swen Temmel: Never try to rob a casino. Have you seen the security intel?

Bruce Willis & Megan Fox's Crime Thriller Flop Is A Streaming Hit On Netflix
Image
In 2021, producer Randall Emmett took a shot at directing his own gritty police drama with "Midnight in the Switchgrass," based on the real story of a Texas-based serial killer which stars Megan Fox, Emile Hirsch, and Bruce Willis. Not only would the film eventually be mired in controversy — Emmett was accused of following loosely in Harvey Weinstein's footsteps when it comes to running a "casting couch" for young actresses and was reportedly even abusive to an ailing Willis on set — but it was a huge flop when it released, which it only did in limited theaters and on video-on-demand. Still, according to FlixPatrol, it's now one of Netflix's most-watched films after just a handful of days on the platform.

So what is the movie about? Well, Willis plays an FBI agent named Karl Heller who, alongside his partner Rebecca Lombardo (Fox), are working to take down a sex-trafficking...

This Epic WWII Film Based on a 63-Year-Old Novel Features 1 of the Greatest Casts of All Time
Image
War films tend to follow a familiar path, focussing on the action and camaraderie between soldiers. The Thin Red Line takes a different route. Directed by Terrence Malick and adapted from James Jones’ 1962 novel, the film is less about tactical victories and more about the inner lives of the men sent to fight.

Yet, beyond its emotional depth, The Thin Red Line also boasts one of the greatest casts in cinema history. Big names like Sean Penn, Nick Nolte and Elias Koteas share the screen with rising stars like Jim Caviezel and Ben Chaplin. But just as striking as the cast itself is Malick’s unconventional approach – where even major stars were reduced to mere minutes of screen time or cut entirely. The result is a film that defies expectations, standing apart from other World War II epics with an accurate representation of the U.S. Army’s involvement in the Battle of Guadalcanal.
