Geri Halliwell’s husband, Christian Horner, has officially been fired from the Formula 1 Red Bull team one year after being caught in a sexual relationship with a female staffer.

“Red Bull has released Christian Horner from his operational duties with effect from today and has appointed Laurent Mekies as CEO of Red Bull Racing,” a Red Bull spokesperson said in a statement.

Oliver Mintzlaff, Red Bull’s CEO of Corporate Projects and Investments, made a heartfelt statement about Horner.

“With his tireless commitment, experience, expertise and innovative thinking, he has been instrumental in establishing Red Bull Racing as one of the most successful and attractive teams in Formula 1,” Mintzlaff said. “Thank you for everything, Christian, and you will forever remain an important part of our team history.”

Horner’s dismissal comes one year after the team discovered a series of explicit WhatsApp messages and photos sent between the F1 pro and a female staff member.

However, now that the Honey Badger has retired, there exists a huge chasm in the space that he once used to fill with his brimming confidence and infectious laughter. While it will be difficult for Drive to Survive to find a fitting replacement within the current lineup of F1 drivers, the series can make a full 180° turn and go for the ultimate villain to fill the vacancy left by the ultimate hero.

One can understand the fascination behind an icon like the Spice Girls regularly gracing the Formula 1 paddock with their presence. However, even for Drive to Survive, shifting their focus on Christian Horner’s wife aka Ginger Spice Geri Halliwell is a new low.

In a video shared to Instagram by David Beckham, Victoria’s husband, all five of the original Spice Girls — Geri Halliwell, Mel B, Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton and Mel C — stood together while dancing to their 1997 hit song “Stop.”
