Exclusive: Price Productions’ period drama Death of a Brewer is shooting in Iowa and Illinois with

Jefferson White (Yellowstone, Civil War), Crispin Glover (Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, Alice in Wonderland, Back to the Future), Mena Suvari (Reagan, American Beauty) and Tyler Posey (MTV’s Teen Wolf, Queen of the Ring) starring.

Mokotsi Rukundo (East of Middle West) directs and wrote the indie, which is set against the backdrop of 1884. A young doctor becomes entangled in a deadly conflict between a brewing empire and a radical temperance movement, forcing him to confront his morals in a world where survival and loyalty are at odds. Andy Dispensa, Sydney Pierick and Mickey O’Sullivan also star.

Keli Price of Price Productions negotiated the deals on behalf of the production. Price is producing along with Doug Alberhasky, who is executive producing alongside Ron Kirchhoff.

Kahn updates his Y2K swagger for a 2025 audience in his narrative comeback, which acts as a VFX-fueled meditation on nostalgia, disaster films and Gen Z’s cultural dominance. Alien invasion films seem to be having a bit of a comeback (with Spielberg even coming back to the subgenre next year), but they often follow a similar formula. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but it’s often either the Independence Day or Invasion of the Body Snatchers approach. In the film, Kahn explores the chaos unleashed by a mysterious entity known as the Ick. The synopsis reads, "For almost two decades, a viscous vine-like growth known colloquially as “The Ick” has benignly crept into every nook and cranny of American life while the residents of small town Eastbrook remain blasé about its existence. The exceptions are former high school football star-turned-hapless science teacher Hank and his sardonically perceptive student Grace who are thrown together by Grace’s mom Staci’s closely-guarded secret and a mutual suspicion that the Ick is about to unleash some monstrous mayhem."

Brandon Routh is widely recognized as one of the best versions of live-action Superman, and he deserves every bit of that praise. But wait, what if he ditched the Man of Steel to become Spider-Man? Sounds unbelievable, yes, but that’s exactly what he did at the recently held San Diego Comic Con (Sdcc) 2025.

As can be seen in the videos currently making rounds on the internet, the superhero from Superman Returns really left pretty much everyone’s mouth hanging wide open when he took the stage during the All-American Rejects’ set while clad, neck to toe, in the web-slinger’s red and blue costume (via @getFANDOM on X).

Brandon Routh, most famous for portraying the iconic superhero in the 2006 feature film Superman Returns, has now declared his support for the film, with the actor having a surprisingly emotional reaction to the Dcu reboot.

The world is ending and nobody cares in Ick, Joseph Kahn’s latest genre offering after 2017’s Bodied and 2011’s Detention. Despite only making four features in 20 years, Kahn is ubiquitous in pop culture from his background in directing music videos for major artists like Britney Spears and Taylor Swift. He also directed 2004’s Torque, a film received so disastrously even he pokes fun at it. That might explain why, after making one studio film, he’s directed all of his following films independently––including Ick, a riotous take on the creature feature and a scathing satire of society’s apathetic attitude in the face of existential threats.

It takes almost no time to see that Ick is very much Kahn’s own creation. This film runs rampant without a single studio note.

When James Gunn’s “Superman” was released earlier this month, former Man of Steel Brandon Routh cheered its arrival on Instagram.

A July 12 post featuring a trailer for the movie was accompanied by Routh’s message, “Go see #Superman in theaters now!”

He also wrote, “Seeing it soon! But at @fanboy_expo in Nashville— talking to all the amazing Superman fans who have seen it already, and we are very excited to see it soon! Same as me!”

Routh, who starred as the DC superhero in 2006’s “Superman Returns,” tells me he has now seen the movie.

Saban Films and Roadside Attractions have just released the trailer for the chilling new found footage horror film Strange Harvest. The movie comes from writer-director Stuart Ortiz, who is known for Grave Encounters. Strange Harvest is a hauntingly grounded thriller that introduces “Mr. Shiny,” a serial killer at the center of a terrifying and otherworldly mystery. The movie uses various methods of voyeuristic point-of-views in a twist on the usual found footage formula as we see the action through webcams, news outlets and body cams.

The official synopsis for Strange Harvest from Saban and Roadside Attractions reads,

“Detectives are thrust into a chilling hunt for “Mr. Shiny”—a sadistic serial killer from the past whose return marks the beginning of a new wave of grotesque, otherworldly crimes tied to a dark cosmic force.” The movie stars Peter Zizzo, Terri Apple, Andy Lauer, Matthew Peschio, Janna Cardia, Travis Wolfe Sr. and Christina Helene Braa.

Detention director Joseph Kahn makes his horror-comedy return with pulpy creature feature Ick, and Fathom Entertainment has dated the film for theatrical release this summer.

Fathom will screen Ick in select theatres in New York and Los Angeles for a one-week theatrical run starting Thursday, July 24, before expanding to theaters nationwide July 27-29.

Day of the Dead is heading back to theaters for its 40th anniversary. The zombie classic is the third installment in George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead series.

Per Bloody Disgusting, Romero's 1985 horror classic will be returning to theaters and drive-ins for its 40th anniversary for a limited run between July 1 and October 31. "As the world is overrun by zombies, a group of scientists and military personnel sheltering in an underground bunker in Florida must decide on how they should deal with the undead horde," reads the synopsis for Day of the Dead. The movie, written and directed by Romero, boasts an ensemble cast that includes Lori Cardille, Terry Alexander, Joseph Pilato, Sherman Howard, Jarlath Conroy, Richard Liberty, and Gary Klar. Exclusive: Radiant Films International has boarded worldwide sales for Cannes on the psychological thriller Closure starring Michael Kelly from The Penguin, Kevin Pollak, Mena Suvari, and Dennis Haysbert.

Will Wernick, whose credits include Follow Me, directed from a screenplay by Jason Rosen, and they produced alongside Rosen, Kelly Delson, Jeff Delson, and Kyle David Crosby.

The December 1987-set story finds a grieving law enforcement officer tasked with investigating a death inside a prison that harbours a sinister presence.

Closure filmed entirely on location in and around Moundsville, West Virginia, and is currently in post-production.

“The performances drive the narrative,” said Wenick.

Good news for American Pie fans. Two sequels from the theatrically released entries will be getting new physical media releases. The bad news is that these particular releases are from a British distributor, and the normal Blu-rays are Region B. However, American Pie 2 will get an Ultra-hd 4K remastering on a region-free Blu-ray so North American consumers can enjoy it as well. According to Blu-ray.com, 88 Films is releasing the first sequel and the last sequel to the 1999 teen virginity comedy. Both Blu-rays are due to hit retailers in June.

Exclusive: Magenta Light Studios has acquired North American rights to Salvadoran Civil War drama Fireflies At El Mozote starring Paz Vega (Spanglish) from Premiere Entertainment Group.

The film was written and directed by Ernesto Melara. The story is set in 1980s El Salvador and recounts the story of a 10-year-old boy (Mateo Honles) who survives the massacre of his village and his quest to bring justice to his dead family in the middle of a bloody civil war.

Juan Pablo Shuk (Narcos), Yancey Arias (Queen of the South), Jeff Fahey (Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1), and Mena Suvari (American Beauty) round out the key cast.

Richard J. Bosner is making his directorial debut with Devoted, a new horror film featuring a strong cast. Mena Suvari, Skeet Ulrich, Elizabeth Marvel, Lin Shaye, Alicia Sanz, and Nick Stahl have all signed on for the project.

The movie tells the unsettling story of a woman, played by Suvari, who takes in her estranged sister (Marvel). Her sister is the only survivor of a mass cult suicide, and what starts as a hopeful reunion quickly turns into a nightmare. As her sister’s dark influence grows, the woman and her husband (Ulrich) find their lives spiraling into terror.

Bosner, known for producing Fruitvale Station and Black Bear, is directing and writing Devoted, which is based on his short film Devotee. The short premiered at the 2024 HollyShorts Film Festival and was also featured at Beyond Fest.

Exclusive: Filmmaker Jonathan Baker has announced Standing on the Shoulders of Fate, a behind-the-scenes documentary by Adam Davis on the making of Jonathan Baker’s feature Fate, which was set to star Donald Sutherland. The iconic actor died last summer before production started.

A highlight of the film is its portrayal of Baker’s year-long collaboration with the legendary Sutherland on what was intended to be his final film role.

Harvey Keitel ended up playing Sutherland’s role.

Highland Film Group has taken international sales for Fate.
