Quick Links The Creation of the Ferengi in Second-Wave Star Trek Quark Was the Surprise Favorite Character From Deep Space Nine At Times, Quark Was More Logical Than Even Vulcans How the Dominion War on Deep Space Nine Further Changed the Ferengi
On Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, the Ferengi were complex figures with an outsiders' perspective on Starfleet instead of the joke characters they were on Star Trek: The Next Generation. The aliens were created by Gene Roddenberry and Herbert J. Wright, and were originally meant to be significant antagonists in the 24th Century. That didn't happen. Instead, the early seasons of The Next Generation had troubles, particularly with the writing staff, and this perhaps led to these villains' failure to launch. Instead of fearsome foes for the crew of the USS Enterprise-d to face-off with, they ended up being comic relief characters.

G Herbo has pleaded guilty to wire fraud and lying to federal agents after being indicted in 2020.
The Chicago rapper, born Herbert Wright, was charged alongside five associates with using stolen identities to accumulate about $1.5 million in fraudulent purchases, including private jets, a trip to Jamaica and “designer puppies.”
Wright faces up to 20 years in prison but according to court records, will likely receive a lower sentence with probation.
The plea agreement stated, “Wright used the proceeds of these frauds to travel to various concert venues and to advance his career by posting photographs and/or videos of himself on the private jets, in the exotic cars, and at the Jamaican villa.”
The agreement also alleges that Wright lied to a U.S. federal agent regarding his relationship with Antonio Strong, his rap promoter, who is accused of being the mind behind the identity theft plan. He claimed to have...

Warning: This article contains Spoilers for Star Trek: Picard season 3, episode 2, "Disengage."The introduction of Ferengi gangster Sneed (Aaron Stanford) in Star Trek: Picard season 3 finally pays off the original vision that Gene Roddenberry had for Star Trek: The Next Generation's villains. The Ferengi were created by Gene Roddenberry and Herbert J. Wright as new antagonists for the crew of Tng's new USS Enterprise-d. As the Cold War came to an end toward the end of the 1980s, it was felt that Tng should have a new conflict to replace the tensions between the Federation and the Klingon Empire which had defined Star Trek: The Original Series.
To conceive the Ferengi, Wright took inspiration from the "greed is good" philosophy of Ronald Reagan's America in the 1980s. The idea of capitalist barbarians in space felt like a logical choice of antagonist for Gene Roddenberry's egalitarian utopia. Unfortunately, the...

Star Trek: Picard season 3's new Ferengi villain, Sneed (Aaron Stanford), has links to some big names from Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. The Ferengi broker appeared in Picard season 3, episode 2, "Disengage", in which he was visited by Commander Raffi Musiker (Michelle Hurd) as she investigates stolen weapons. As a violent and conniving gangster, Sneed is a more sinister Ferengi than beloved DS9 barman Quark (Armin Shimerman), and is therefore more like the more antagonistic Ferengi originally conceived by Gene Roddenberry and Herbert J. Wright for Tng season 1.
In a Twitter post by Star Trek: Picard season 3 research assistant Jörg Hillebrand, it was revealed that this isn't the only thing that links Sneed to Tng and DS9. Sharing a screengrab from Sneed's intelligence file, Hillebrand reveals some surprising blink-and-you'll-miss-it information about the Ferengi broker, his criminal record, and his known associates.

In Chicago, many kids are exposed to two sides of the same coin. There are the joyful traditions, experiences, and summertime fun that define Black childhood in the city. And then there’s “Chiraq,” where G Herbo, born Herbert Wright, saw his first casualty of gun violence when he was just eight years old. It’s where kids and teenagers, already burdened by poverty, get thrust into adulthood after seeing their childhood peers die.

Herbert Wright was a ten-year-old kid living in Chicago when Lil Wayne released Tha Carter II. It was the first Wayne release made after Hurricane Katrina pushed him from his native New Orleans. The album ushered in an era in which Wayne would tower above the rest of the rap world as the genre’s ravenous antihero. That resonated with the young Chicagoan. “I just felt the hunger,” Wright says of hearing the album when it came out. “Hearing the hunger in his voice, seeing what he meant to music...

It was supposed to be her last appointment of the day. When real estate agent Beverly Carter arrived at a home in Scott, Arkansas in September 2014, she planned to show the vacant property to a perspective buyer. But the 50-year-old realtor vanished, leaving a stunned community searching for answers. Police quickly focused on 33-year-old Arron Lewis as their suspect, and they say he led them to her body, which was buried in the concrete plant where Lewis had once worked. A month later, his estranged wife, Crystal Lowery, was also arrested and charged with the murder. Sixteen months later, Lewis...
