Nick Offerman Could Have Played One Of Marvel's Most Iconic Characters
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Hugh Jackman is pretty inseparable from Wolverine at this point. Troye Sivan in the opening flashback of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" and a certain cameo in "Deadpool & Wolverine" aside, Jackman is the only actor to play Logan on the big screen. He's been doing it for 25 years (almost) straight at this point, too. ("Till you're 90.")

But back in the late 1990s, when the first "X-Men" movie was still coming together, Jackman was a musical and theatre star not hugely famous outside his native Australia. Suffice to say, he wasn't the instant number one pick for Logan, so "X-Men" held auditions to find the right actor.

For starters, the role of Wolverine was famously Dougray Scott's, but he had to drop out to film "Mission: Impossible II." Jackman's career as Wolverine began with him being the understudy. Scott wasn't the only unused Logan,...

Trump’s One Big, Beautiful Bill Clears Congress After Marathon House Vote; Hakeem Jeffries Delivers Record-Breaking Floor Speech In Protest
Image
The signature piece of Donald Trump’s legislative agenda cleared Congress on Thursday as the House of Representatives gave its final approval after a marathon overnight session.

The vote was 218-214, with two Republicans. Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania joining all Democrats in voting against it.

Trump is expected to sign the bill Friday during a White House ceremony.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and Trump worked through the night trying to persuade holdouts, while they managed to flip almost all Republicans who initially voted to block the bill from even coming to the floor.

As things dragged on, Trump wrote shortly after midnight: “Largest Tax Cuts in History and a Booming Economy vs. Biggest Tax Increase in History, and a Failed Economy. What are the Republicans waiting for??? What are you trying to prove??? Maga Is Not Happy, And It’S Costing You Votes!

Hakeem Jeffries Breaks House Record With Speech Bashing Trump’s Tax Bill
Image
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries spoke for eight hours and 44 minutes on the House floor on Thursday, in a marathon speech delaying the passage of = Donald Trump’s Medicaid-and-food-assistance slashing, tax-gift-for-the-wealthy abomination of a reconciliation bill. The speech breaks the record for longest ever delivered on the House floor, previously held by former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

Jeffries spent much of his hours-long “magic minute” speech reading statements, letters, and stories from individuals who have benefited from Medicaid and other programs, or have written in opposition to the legislation’s...

C-Span Faces A Funding Crisis Amid Cord Cutting, Even As D.C.’s Drama Makes Its Mission Ever More Important
Image
Over the past week, C-span has covered the narrow, early morning vote on Donald Trump’s “big beautiful bill.” It carried in full the president’s at-times bizarre Oval Office clash with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. It captured the heated exchange between Secretary of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Sen. Patti Murray (D-wa).

At times the source of humor for its comprehensive coverage of extremely wonkish TV in an era of ever-shorter attention spans, C-span has nevertheless been a go-to destination for the unedited moments in D.C. at an unprecedented era of hyper-partisanship, high anxiety and heavy drama.

The irony is that the network, launched in 1979, finds itself at a crossroads. Funded by the cable industry, it has seen its revenue fall as consumers cut the cord, while the most popular streaming alternatives have yet to carry the C-Span channels to make up for the loss.

This The Last of Us Star Once Auditioned to Play Wolverine (& Learned a Valuable Lesson in the Process)
Image
As one of the most popular comic book characters in history, the role of Wolverine is very coveted among working actors. Hugh Jackman became synonymous with the role after spending over two decades as Logan, but if he hadn't landed the part, it could have been beloved actor Nick Offerman.

Known in part for playing Ron Swanson in the hit sitcom Parks and Recreation, Offerman more recently impressed critics and fans with his guest role as Bill in the much more dramatic series The Last of Us. This kind of range further demonstrates Offerman's capabilities as an actor, and some fans may even be able to picture him playing a live-action incarnation of Wolverine. While speaking with Kevin McCarthy to promote his newest film, Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, Offerman spoke about two franchise roles that got away, with one of them being Jackman's Logan.

Maga Is Losing Its Mind Over an Instagram Post Calling for Trump’s Ouster
Image
Former FBI Director James Comey is under investigation by the Secret Service after posting a picture of seashells spelling out “8647” on Instagram — which conservatives claim is a secret call for President Donald Trump’s assassination.

On Thursday, Comey posted an image to his social media of a “cool shell formation” he found during a walk on the beach. The first half of the shell formation spelled out “86,” ostensibly a reference to common hospitality slang. The second half, “47,” was seemingly a reference to Trump, the 47th president.

To “86” something is an...

Even Maga Republicans Are Torching Trump for Accepting Jet From Qatar
Image
It’s getting increasingly difficult for Republicans and even the Maga faithful to defend Donald Trump’s unconstitutional or otherwise misguided actions as president. In the case of Trump accepting a $400 million luxury jet from Qatar, they aren’t even trying — and some of them, including some of the president’s most loyal defenders, are going out of their way to bash the brazenly corrupt act.

Laura Loomer, the far-right conspiracy theorist and diehard Trump supporter (and adviser), was quick to respond to the news on Sunday that the administration...

Since the start of his second term, President Donald Trump has been busy triggering constitutional crises, setting due process and other basic rights on fire, rocking the U.S. economy with a trade war based on horrifically bad math, wielding the Justice Department and other agencies to target his political enemies, and bringing a level of lawlessness and corruption to the federal government not seen since, well, maybe ever — all while his lieutenants work around to clock to grant him the authoritarian powers of a mad “king.”

The Howling (1981) – Wtf Happened to This Adaptation?
Image
Not all of the classic Universal Monsters were based on classic stories. While Frankenstein and Dracula came from the minds of Mary Shelley and Bram Stoker, The Wolfman, and previously Werewolf of London, was based on folklore dating back centuries rather than fiction. While the character has had a hard time coming back into the limelight with the disappointing Wolfman from 2010 and even more disappointing Wolf Man from 2025, the myth has done well for itself even while not being as in the public favor as the Zombie or Vampire. Those original films may not be based on books but that didn’t stop writers from creating their own stories or studios from adapting them. This includes the likes of Hammer Studios Curse of the Werewolf being adapted from The Werewolf of Paris and The Wolfen getting turned into the 1981 movie Wolfen. Speaking of 1981, there were two other rather small werewolf...

‘Zero Day’ TV Review: Robert De Niro’s Netflix Political Thriller Fights To Make America Function Again
Image
“When is the last time the country was able to solve any of its problems?” ambitious congresswoman Alexandra Mullen (Lizzy Caplan) screams at her father and former Potus George Mullen (Robert De Niro) in Netflix’s just-launched Zero Day.

It is a fair question for the six-episode political thriller, and for America 2025.

Certainly, in a week that has seen a sitting U.S. president parroting Kremlin bullet points while his manic billionaire buddy takes a blowtorch to the federal government, the political thriller created by Eric Newman, Noah Oppenheim and Michael S. Schmidt and starring De Niro, Caplan, Angela Bassett, Joan Allen, Jesse Plemons, Bill Camp, Connie Britton, Dan Stevens, McKinley Belcher III and Matthew Modine, may provide a much needed sugar high of hope — fictional or not. At the same time, ripped right out of the toxic underbelly of modern America as much as the headlines, Zero Day will show it can happen here,...

Mike Johnson Wins Reelection As House Speaker After Persuading Two First-Ballot Holdouts To Switch Votes
Image
The first major drama of the new Congress took place as the House of Representatives sought to elect a new speaker, with Mike Johnson managing to secure a majority after finally winning over two holdouts.

The vote was 218 for Johnson and 215 for Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries. All Democrats voted for Jeffries. After two Republican holdouts initially voted for other candidates, denying him a majority, Johnson huddled with them and, after a protracted period in which the first ballot was held open, they changed their votes for the Louisiana Republican.

Had no speaker been in place, House members cannot be sworn in and, technically the House could not conduct the business of certifying the results of the presidential election on Monday. Trump had endorsed Johnson, hoping to stave off the confusion of a January 6th without an elected speaker.

With C-span cameras allowed independent access to the chamber to capture candid moments,...

Mike Johnson’s Reign as Speaker Under Threat Despite Trump’s Support
Image
President-elect Donald Trump may have endorsed House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) on Monday, but some Republicans aren’t ready to fall in line. While Rep. Thomas Massie has come out strongly against Johnson, other House Republicans are undecided, meaning Johnson may have a difficult time keeping his position.

Johnson’s role is up for a vote after the new House is sworn in on Friday. Republicans are expected to hold a slim, 219-215 majority, with one vacancy. Democrats are expected to back House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-n.Y.) in a united front.

Dems Troll Trump by Calling Elon the Real President

Elon Musk has not been elected to any public office, but after tanking Republicans’ most recent attempt at a stopgap funding bill to avoid a shutdown, some right-wing lawmakers are entertaining the idea of installing him as speaker of the House. Democrats, by contrast, are pointing out that if the party — which claims to loathe the unelected bureaucracy — is going to let themselves be controlled by the social media posts of the world’s richest man, they may as well hand him the keys to the White House.

Body Snatchers | Why Abel Ferrara’s 1993 sci-fi horror deserves a second look
Image
Abel Ferrara’s sci-fi horror Body Snatchers was largely overlooked in 1993, but it’s aged remarkably well in the decades since.

Movie-goers and film scholars have argued for decades over which side of the political divide director Don Siegel and his collaborators fell on when they made Invasion Of The Body Snatchers at the height of the Cold War in 1956. Did it tap into contemporary fears of an insidious communist takeover, or was it a Crucible-like jab at McCarthyist witch hunts?

Siegel always maintained that he didn’t have politics in mind when he made the film, adapted from author Jack Finney’s novel, The Body Snatchers; he simply intended it to be an entertaining, disturbing thrill ride. And what a thrill-ride it is: starring Kevin McCarthy as a small-town doctor who’s slow to realise his patients – and gradually the entire town – is being replaced by soulless pod people – it’s a tense,...

After Withdrawing As Attorney General Nominee, Ex-Rep. Matt Gaetz Launches A Cameo Account Charging $525 For A Personalized Video
Image
Former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Florida) has created an account on the video-sharing website Cameo, where he charges people more than $500 per video.

On Friday, Gaetz, who is facing allegations of misconduct and illegal drug use, started charging $250 a video but soon increased that price to $500. As of 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, he started charging over $525 and had a five-star rating on the platform.

Matt Gaetz Withdraws From Consideration As Donald Trump’s Nominee For Attorney General
Image
Matt Gaetz said today that he was withdrawing from consideration as nominee as Donald Trump’s attorney general, as Republican senators expressed concerns over a House ethics investigation of sexual misconduct.

He wrote on X, “I had excellent meetings with Senators yesterday. I appreciate their thoughtful feedback – and the incredible support of so many. While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance Transition. There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle, thus I’ll be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as Attorney General. Trump’s DOJ must be in place and ready on Day 1.”

Gaetz has been accused of having sex with an underage girl, an allegation that he has denied. The Ethics Committee has been drawing up a report on its investigation of him, but it deadlocked...

Donald Trump Nominates Matt Gaetz As Attorney General; Florida Congressman Resigns Seat — Update
Image
Updated, with Gaetz resigning his congressional seat: Donald Trump has nominated Rep.. Matt Gaetz (R-fl) to serve as attorney general, a surprise pick that will please the president-elect’s Maga allies but may prove to be a flashpoint in the confirmation process.

There already are doubts that Gaetz will have the Senate votes, even with the Republicans set to control the chamber.

The selection of Gaetz, a key ally and partisan flamethrower, also is raising alarm among Democrats over the independence of the Justice Department, as Trump has vowed to enact retribution on political enemies.

More than anything, Gaetz has been in lockstep with Trump over his view of the DOJ.

Trump said in a statement, “Few issues in America are more important than ending the partisan Weaponization of our Justice System. Matt will end Weaponized Government, protect our Borders, dismantle Criminal Organizations and restore Americans’ badly-shattered Faith and Confidence in the Justice Department.

The Last Republican Review: An Insider Look at Courage Against the Tide
Image
The Last Republican shines a light on a pivotal moment in recent history through the eyes of former politician Adam Kinzinger. As one of the few Republicans willing to break ranks after the 2020 election, Kinzinger knew speaking out could spell the end of his career. But with democracy itself feeling fragile, looking the other way wasn’t an option.

The documentary details Kinzinger’s final months in office. By then, he’d already drawn ire from his party for voting to impeach Donald Trump over the January 6th attack. When asked to join the committee investigating the insurrection, Kinzinger took the unpopular step of cooperating—not because he wanted to, but because our system of government was at stake.

Delving deep into this conscience-driven choice is director Steve Pink. An unlikely pair at first glance, Pink the liberal and Kinzinger the conservative find common ground in their concern for America’s future.

This Classic Donald Sutherland Movie Remains One of the Best Remakes of All Time
Image
Mention the late Donald Sutherland, and chances are the first thing that springs to mind is the horrifying final shot of Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978). His frozen face and alien howl put the finishing touches on a truly frightening motion picture. Sutherland made recurring but infrequent appearances in the horror genre, never lightly and always with something interesting to lend to the production. None of them landed with quite the power of Body Snatchers, which continues to resonate to this day. The film is doubly impressive considering that it's a remake.

The original Invasion of the Body Snatchers from 1956 is widely considered not only one of the greatest movies of the decade, but also one of the greatest sci-fi horror movies ever made. Yet, the 1978 version, directed by Phillip Kaufman, tops it in almost every way, which is a remarkable accomplishment considering the masterpiece that preceded it. Other remakes have improved upon the original,...

Joker 2: Todd Phillips Reveals How He Took the Most Perfect Shot in Comic Book Movie History
Image
Joker: Folie à Deux has one of the greatest shots to come out of a superhero film. Revealed in the trailer of the movie, the shot has Harley Quinn painting a red smile on her side of a transparent pane, with Arthur Fleck moving his head to align with the smile, and then cracking on of his own, perfectly aligning with the one created by Harley.

Todd Phillips, the director of the original Joker and the sequel, talked to Kevin McCarthy about how he managed to shoot that particular sequence. Getting the perfect shot with the right alignment allegedly took over an hour to get right, with the director worrying the entire time if the shot was cringy or cool.

The Twilight Zone: The Only Episodes Without Rod Serling's Iconic Ending Line
Image
In "The Twilight Zone," the twists always come at the end. Our protagonists -- soldiers, criminals, salesmen, astronauts, movie stars, and more -- spend the majority of the episode wondering exactly what the hell is going on, only for Rod Serling to serve up a curveball of epic, sometimes shocking proportions at episode's end. The series invented and perfected plenty of classic TV twist ending tropes, but it also featured some less guessable twists, like the circumstances surrounding "Five Strangers in Search of An Exit," or the bait-and-switch conclusion to "The Invaders."

In a few rare cases, though, the most surprising part of "The Twilight Zone" comes even later on, when Serling himself closes out the show with his signature concluding sign-off. As the show's creator, head writer, and host, Serling was our guide through the strange and uncanny place he dubbed the Twilight Zone, and he often appeared on...

‘The Last Republican’ Review: Adam Kinzinger Makes an Engaging Doc Subject in Portrait of an Anti-Trump Conservative
Image
It’s a sign of the truly bizarre political times in which we live that the new documentary about former Illinois congressman Adam Kinzinger was made not by any of the usual filmmaking suspects. The Last Republican, receiving its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, wasn’t helmed by, say, Michael Moore, Errol Morris, or Barbara Kopple, but rather Steve Pink. It only makes sense when you find out that one of Pink’s previous directorial efforts, Hot Tub Time Machine, is Kinzinger’s favorite film. “It’s the thing that sold me,” Kinzinger jokingly comments, well aware of the director’s ultra-liberal leanings. “You have contempt for what I believe, in terms of political viewpoints,” he acknowledges.

Now that Kinzinger has become a media personality, best-selling author, and darling of the Democratic Party (he recently spoke at their national convention), it’s easy to gloss over how...

Kamala Harris “Proud” To Have Dick Cheney’s Vote, VP’s Team Says After Ex-vp Offers Support Over Trump — Update
Image
Updated, with Cheney statement & Kamala Harris statement: Former Vice President Dick Cheney will be voting for Kamala Harris in the November election, his daughter Liz Cheney said today. The announcement by the former Wyoming Congresswoman was soon followed by confirmation by the ex-vp himself, and then follow up with words of thanks by the current vice president.

“Dick Cheney will be voting for Kamala Harris,” Liz Cheney said at the Texas Tribune Festival, where she was participating in a Q&a with The Atlantic’s Mark Leibovich.

Her father later released a statement, saying that “there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump. He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him. He can never be trusted with power again.”

The elder Cheney added, “As citizens, we each...

In TIFF World Premiere ‘The Last Republican,’ Former GOP Congressman Adam Kinzinger Zings Trump, Likens Republican Party To Drunk On A Bender
Image
Exclusive: To the delight of Democrats, and outrage of many Republicans, former GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger addressed the Democratic National Convention on its final night last month, sharing his observations about the party he served for 12 years in Congress.

“The Republican Party is no longer conservative,” he said. “It has switched its allegiance from the principles that gave it purpose to a man whose only purpose is himself.”

Any guesses who he was referring to? If there’s any doubt, it will be dispelled in the documentary The Last Republican, set to make its world premiere on Saturday at the Toronto International Film Festival. Steve Pink (Hot Tub Time Machine) directed the film, an acquisition title at TIFF. We have your first look at the film in the exclusive clip below.

Inside One Governor’s Crusade to Tear Down the Wall Between Church and State

Jeff Landry And Donald Trump Jr. kept their eyes peeled for a bumpy, thin snout as their guide navigated a silver mudboat. It was a September morning in 2018, and Trump Jr. had brought his new girlfriend, Kimberly Guilfoyle, to the Louisiana attorney general’s annual alligator-hunt fundraiser. Trump met Landry back in 2016, when his father was running for president; Landry had been an early supporter of Donald Trump. Days before the hunt, locals had hung rotten raw chicken — the stinkier the better — on fishing line to tempt gators. But so far,...

Activate The Hot Tub Time Machine! Doc Talk Podcast Soaks In TIFF Nonfiction Lineup With Festival’s Chief Documentary Programmer
Image
Take one conservative anti-Trumper, add a liberal Hollywood filmmaker, toss them in a Hot Tub Time Machine, and what comes out? One of the most talked-about documentaries set to premiere at next month’s Toronto Film Festival.

In the new episode of Deadline’s Doc Talk podcast, TIFF’s chief documentary programmer Thom Powers joins the show to discuss the festival’s 2024 nonfiction lineup, including The Last Republican. That film “stars” former GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger, an ex-member of the January 6th Congressional investigating committee who turned on President Donald Trump after the insurrection and hasn’t let up since. Powers explains how Kinzinger ended up telling his story to filmmaker Steve Pink, a self-described leftie best known for 2010’s time-traveling hot tub comedy.

The revelations don’t stop there. Powers shares how he and his programming team narrowed...

Rep. Matt Gaetz Mocks Nemesis Ex-House Speaker Kevin McCarthy As A ‘Loser’
Image
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Florida) won the GOP nomination for Florida’s first congressional district against the former naval officer Aaron Dimmock.

The Florida representative led Dimmock 70.52% to 29.48% with only the early voting and mail-in ballots counted, the Florida Division of Elections reported.

Dimmock was backed by former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. Gaetz was one of the eight Republicans who voted to oust McCarthy in October 2023.

Gaetz mocked McCarthy’s backing of the ex-naval officer and his opponent’s post-military career, which involved training corporate managers in diversity. He labeled Dimmock as a diversity, equality and inclusion (Dei) instructor, which has become a derogatory term in Republican politics. At one campaign event, Gaetz stated that Dei was “anti-white racism.”

A McCarthy-aligned super Pac known as Florida Patriots Pac spent $3.5 million on ads against Gaetz,...

Perennial Bachelor Sen. Tim Scott Marries Fiancée Mindy Noce In A South Carolina Wedding Ceremony
Image
Sen. Tim Scott (R-South Carolina) married his fiancée, interior designer Mindy Noce, during a ceremony at their hometown chapel, Seacoast Church in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.

Among the readings at the wedding ceremony, which took place on Saturday, was a Bible passage that started with the reflection, “Two are better than one.”

Founding Seacoast Pastor Greg Surratt, a longtime friend and close mentor who counseled Scott while he weighed a 2024 Republican presidential bid, officiated. The groom’s older brother, Ben Scott, was his best man.

The congressman, Eli Crane, represents a large swath of northern Arizona. He is a Navy veteran who was deployed with the SEALs, and later created a business selling bottle openers fashioned out of giant 50-caliber rifle shells, a company that was featured on Shark Tank.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) Revisited – Horror Movie Review
Image
With the passing of Donald Sutherland, I was looking through his catalogue for stuff I hadn’t seen yet as I like to look at the entire catalogue to find some hidden gems. What I was reminded of while looking was his stellar horror output over the years. Fallen, The Puppet Masters, Don’t Look Now, Virus, the Salem’s Lot TV miniseries, and of course Dr. Terror’s House of Horrors are all fun to great but for my money, his turn in Invasion of the Body Snatchers (watch it Here) and really the movie in general, is his best stuff. After buying the wonderful 4K from Kino Lorber and rewatching it, I’m also ready to crown it as the best San Francisco based horror movie too. While it can feel every bit as long as it’s 1 hour and 55-minute runtime, it uses that slow build tension to...

Rep. Matt Gaetz Mocked For Odd New Appearance During RNC Speech: ‘An AI-Powered Inflatable Sex Doll,’ GOP Rep. Says
Image
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Florida) was mocked on social media for the appearance of his face during his RNC speech.

“Gaetz forgot to set a Botox limit,” wrote one user in an X post. “Shoulda Venmo’d that particular salad.”

“Wtf did Gaetz do to his face,” criminal defense attorney Ron Filipowski asked on X.

Another user compared the images to how Real Housewives stars evolved.

The words “Housewives on their first season” were placed above the first image, while the words “Housewives on their fifth season” were placed above the second image.

“RNC debuts first AI powered inflatable sex doll to speak at a national convention,” Rep. Derrick Van Orden stated on the platform on July 18.

Gaetz is no stranger to social media dust ups. Earlier in the week, he confronted his nemesis, former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, on the convention floor.

In 2017, during a congressional hearing, Gaetz read an...

Trump’s Convention Feels Like a 2024 Victory Party. Some Fear He’s ‘Gonna Blow This’
Image
Milwaukee — This week’s Republican National Convention has the air not so much of a nominating celebration, but of a jubilant Trump 2024 victory party.

After her convention speech on Tuesday night, Republican National Committee co-chair Lara Trump made a late night appearance at the Lone Star Social, a glitzy afterparty for the Texas delegation, held in an ornate, columned hall called the Grain Exchange, where waitstaff served glasses of champagne and platters of deviled quail eggs.

The nominee’s daughter-in-law highlighted RNC plans for turning out the vote, and insisted...

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy & Rep. Matt Gaetz Get Into A Heated Confrontation At RNC
Image
A heated feud between former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-California) and Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Florida) erupted once again on the floor of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee on Tuesday evening.

The two longtime political rivals exchanged tensely as Gaetz repeatedly taunted his former colleague.

As McCarthy conversed with other individuals, Gaetz approached him to repeatedly tap his shoulder and inquire about McCarthy’s speaking slot at the convention. Despite attempts to shoo Gaetz away, the congressman persisted and warned McCarthy that he would be “booed off the stage” if he took the podium.

As Gaetz walked away, another individual on the convention floor could be heard telling him to “shut up” and not “be a–hole.”

In a subsequent interview, McCarthy addressed the confrontation and stated that Gaetz’s behavior “shows exactly who Matt Gaetz is.” When asked whether he believed he would be booed off the stage, McCarthy firmly said,...

Former House Kevin McCarthy Says He Was Removed From Office Because Rep. Matt Gaetz ‘Had Sex With An Underage Girl’
Image
On Friday, former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy blamed his nemesis, Rep. Matt Gaetz, for leading the charge against him “because he had sex with an underage girl.” The former Speaker is referencing an incident the House Ethics Committee is investigating. He claims that Gaetz demanded that he drop the investigation as a condition of his support.

McCarthy’s jab on HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher was the latest in his long-running campaign against Gaetz.

Host Bill Maher went on to say that McCarthy went to Mar-a-Lago to “kiss” Donald Trump‘s “a–” after the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021.

McCarthy suggested the former president for never prosecuting “his political opponents,” facetiously asking Maher if Trump ever indicted any Democrats.

“He himself was indicted. That’s the point,” Maher replied, referencing the charges brought against the former president for his alleged efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

Who’s Speaking At Donald Trump’s Republican National Convention: Tucker Carlson And Amber Rose Among Celebrities; Melania Trump Not On List
Image
Tucker Carlson is among the celebrity names slated to speak at next week’s Republican National Convention, reportedly in a plum spot on Thursday night before Donald Trump himself accepts the party nomination.

In addition to a long list of elected officials who are backing Trump, the speaker lineup also includes celebrities like Amber Rose, the model, rapper and former stripper; Dana White, the CEO of UFC; and Savannah Chrisley, the TV personality whose parents are serving prison time for fraud and tax evasion. Also on the bill: Lee Greenwood and Chris Janson.

Notably missing from the lineup: Former First Lady Melania Trump and the former president’s daughter, Ivanka Trump. They each spoke at the 2016 and 2020 conventions.

House GOP leaders like Speaker Mike Johnson, Majority Leader Steve Scalise and Majority Whip Tom Emmer are on the list, but Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Minority Whip John Thune and Republican...

Bill Maher To Kevin McCarthy On Trump: “You Went To Mar-a-Lago And Kissed His Ass”
Image
Bill Maher challenged former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy on Donald Trump’s election denialism, as the two sparred on Real Time on Friday over McCarthy’s trek to Mar-a-Lago shortly after the January 6th attack on the Capitol.

“Did he win that election, Biden?” Maher asked McCarthy.

“Yes,” McCarthy insisted.

“I said from the beginning. I have no qualms with that,” McCarthy said.

“And you actually told that to Trump?”

“Yes,” McCarthy said.

“And then you switched,” Maher said.

McCarthy protested, before Maher said, “You went down to Mar-a-Lago and kissed his ass after that.”

McCarthy called that “bulls—” and said, “You’re so full of crap.”

“I was going to see Donald Trump. He’s my friend. I served with him. Just like I do anybody else.”

McCarthy trekked to Mar-a-Lago on Jan. 28, 2021, a week after Trump left office. The visit was viewed as the former president’s first step toward political revival.
