The second season of Anthony Mackie’s Twisted Metal has just been released, and it is dominating Peacock. While Anthony Mackie is best known for playing Captain America, he has several other notable works that are better examples of his acting skills, and this series is one of them. Even though the season has just been released, Flixpatrol shows that it is the second most-watched series on its streaming platform, sitting just behind Love Island.

While it is difficult to compete with reality television, Mackie’s series is certainly giving tough competition. Starring several notable names like Stephanie Beatriz, Neve Campbell, Will Arnett, and even Thomas Haden Church, season two of the series seems to be doing even better than the first, and the numbers are showing it perfectly.

The Austin Film Festival will bestow the Bill Wittliff Award for Screenwriting to writer/director Rian Johnson, as part of this year’s Writers Conference, happening Oct. 23 – 26. The festival will also screen Johnson’s “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery,” the third installment in the filmmaker’s whodunnit series after “Knives Out” and “Glass Onion.” Both screenplays were nominated for Academy Awards.

“Wake Up Dead Man” sees Daniel Craig return as private detective Benoit Blanc, investigating a new murder and interrogating a new set of quirky suspects. Video game adaptations don’t have the best track record, but Peacock’s Twisted Metal was a breath of fresh air, taking the games’ premise and using it to create something rather different. While the second season is seemingly made more with the goal of appeasing fans in mind, it does so mostly without losing the show’s unique appeal.

The second season of Twisted Metal picks up seven months after the first season, with John (Anthony Mackie) and Quiet (Stephanie Beatriz) having moved on to their own lives on the inside and outside of the wall, respectively. However, when a mysterious figure offers the chance for them to enter into a driving tournament to the death, with the winner earning a wish of their choosing, they find themselves teaming up again to try to win.

Rian Johnson’s Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery will make its international premiere as the opening film of the 69th BFI London Film Festival, running from October 8 to 19.

It marks a return to the festival for Johnson’s murder mystery franchise after the original 2019 movie played in a gala screening at the 63rd edition in 2019, and the second instalment Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery closed the 66th edition in 2022.

“We’re honoured to be opening the BFI London Film Festival with Wake Up Dead Man. London is the birthplace of the golden age of detective fiction and it’s a thrill to be back!,” said Johnson.
