Joe Epperson, the three-time Emmy-nominated camera operator who had long stints on All in the Family, The Jeffersons, Full House and The Tonight Show, has died. He was 80.
Epperson died Saturday of cardiac arrest at Southwest General Health Center in Middleburg Heights, Ohio, his wife of 58 years, Patty Epperson, told The Hollywood Reporter. He had been in and out of the hospital and rehab since April 29 when his appendix burst.
Known for his skill with hand-held cameras, Epperson in 1981 shot from the Roxy in West Hollywood The Pee-wee Herman Show, which ran on HBO and put Paul Reubens and his hilarious alter ego on the map.
He also trained his lens on Frank Sinatra, Liza Minnelli and Sammy Davis Jr. over three nights at the Fox Theatre in Detroit for a 1989 Showtime special and worked on the James Keach-directed Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me, the 2014 documentary that followed...

Prince Edward celebrates his 61st birthday today as the former “Prince Brat” is now seen as one of the most valuable members of the royal family.
“It’s A Royal Knockout” Was Critically Butchered
However, this was not always the case. The Duke of Edinburgh infamously hosted a reality TV show in 1987 called “It’s a Royal Knockout.” It’s memorable, but not in a flattering way.
Royal Family members would dress up in period costumes. They participated in a celebrity medieval tournament in a theme park, and the show quickly became a PR disaster.
Edward, Princess Anne, Sarah Ferguson, and Prince Andrew participated in this drivel, and the show bombed spectacularly.+
In addition to its royal participants, some of the celebrities on the show included the likes of Meat Loaf, Sheena Easton, Christopher Reeves, and John Travolta.

Tim Burton's "Batman" was designed to look timeless. Burton made his Gotham City look like a German expressionist film from the 1920s, using impossible, elongated structures and eerie shadows to construct a bizarre, artificial world. Burton figured that outsize characters like Batman (Michael Keaton) and the Joker (Jack Nicholson) couldn't exist in the real world, so he constructed a fake world they would logically live in. The resulting Gotham City looks like it could be 1939, but video screens and video tech make it look like the near future. The actual era of "Batman" was meant to be elusive.
Of course, the soundtrack betrays the film's timelessness. Warner Bros. hired Prince to write a soundtrack for "Batman," and his royal badness was equal to the task. Prince's "Batman" featured hit singles like "Batdance," "Partyman," "Trust," and "The Arms of Orion," which he sang with Sheena Easton. The presence of Prince...

The 2025 Oscars were shaken (not stirred) by the most famous spy in the world.
Sunday’s 97th annual Academy Awards ceremony featured a tribute to James Bond and the franchise’s long-running history of legendary and Oscar-nominated and -winning theme songs, including winner “Skyfall” (which was performed and cowritten by Adele)
The Bond franchise has received six Oscar nominations for its many indelible songs, including “Live and Let Die” from 1973’s Live and Let Die (performed by Wings and cowritten by Paul and Linda McCartney), “Nobody Does It Better” from 1977’s The Spy Who Loved Me (performed and written by Carly Simon), and “For Your Eyes Only” from 1981’s For Your Eyes Only (performed by Sheena Easton and written by Bill Conti and Mick Leeson). Famous tracks performed by Shirley Bassey (“Goldfinger”), Nancy Sinatra (“You Only Live Twice”), and Duran Duran (“A View to a Kill”) were snubbed by the Academy.

Get ready to shake your martinis to the iconic sounds of James Bond theme songs, as the longtime producers of the seminal cinematic franchise are set to be honored with a musical tribute at the 97th annual Academy Awards. According to reports, producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson will be honored on the main stage after receiving their own Honorary Oscars at the Governors Awards.
In a new report from Variety — though the Academy Awards themselves have not yet commented on the matter — it was confirmed that Wicked will not be the only musical moment to take place during Sunday's Oscar ceremony. Though details on specifics remain scarce, Variety had this to say about what they did know about the musical moment:
"It is unclear whether the tribute will focus solely on Oscar-winning and nominated songs or take a broader approach to celebrating all 26 Bond themes. However, according to sources,...

While some of this documentary following the making of the Scottish songwriter’s second album falls into cliched soul-baring territory, Capaldi’s wit and talent shine through
‘A global pandemic is only in the top three weird things that have happened to me in the last three years,” Lewis Capaldi notes at the start of this generically made but nonetheless startling Netflix documentary about his rise. After years strumming in Scottish pubs and clubs, his raw piano ballad Bruises went viral and lift-off was vertical: his debut album became the biggest seller in the UK in both 2019 and 2020, and its single Someone You Loved, a seven-week chart topper in the UK, made him the first Scottish solo artist to reach US No 1 since Sheena Easton in 1981. An endearing goofball on social media, Capaldi won even more fans by puncturing influencer culture with his blithely unglamorous image, but his japes disguised...

Several James Bond theme songs have been nominated for an Oscar for Best Original song, and only a few of them have managed to walk away from the ceremony with the golden statuette. As a series of big-budget action movies, the Bond franchise rarely gets any attention from the Academy. An actor playing 007 has never been nominated for Best Actor, none of the scripts have been nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay, and a Bond movie has never been nominated for Best Picture. However, it does appear that the theme songs stand out the most, particularly because the lyrics are fitting with the spy genre and resonate deeply.
Ever since Shirley Bassey recorded her iconic title theme for Goldfinger, theme songs by contemporary pop artists have become a fan-favorite staple of the Bond franchise. Just like megalomaniacal villains and trips to exotic locales, Bond fans expect a catchy theme song...

It’s been 60 years since “Dr. No” introduced the most famous fictional spy to movie audiences, opening with a black and white graphic of an eye, inserted with the image of a man turning and pointing a gun – accompanied by one of the most famous instrumentals in cinema history. In the six decades since, there have been 25 Bond films with six different actors portraying the suave spy, as well as 25 accompanying theme songs ripe for debate over which is best.
Monty Norman‘s “James Bond Theme” was so perfect that it has been used in some form in every Bond film since, but each installment also has its own theme, featuring some of the most prolific composers, songwriters and performers of their time. In the 1960s, John Barry took over as composer, eventually working on 11 of the films, and collaborating with a variety of lyricists and artists, ranging from “Oliver!

The James Bond franchise is the gold standard for long-running film series. Sixty years of 007 have not only come with new takes on the secret agent himself but what the franchise should be for each generation of the character. This has meant consistent alterations to every aspect of the movies, as one star takes over for another, from ditching the overt sexism on Bonds past when Daniel Craig took over the role to embracing the absurd in the early years, namely the later Sean Connery films and the majority of the Roger Moore era.
Even the music has changed with each theatrical adventure. From absolute classics, such as Matt Monro’s “From Russia With Love” and Shirley Bassey’s “Goldfinger,” to more modern hits like Adele’s “Skyfall,” each new Bond song is as big an event as the movie itself. But not all Bond songs are equal, and...

It's almost unfathomable to think about how long James Bond movies have been around, but after six decades and seven different incarnations of the character, the series is an absolute cinematic treasure. Not only are the films some of the most beloved throughout history, but the music has also been consistently phenomenal, so much so that /Film's own Jeremy Smith considers the music to be the most powerful throughline of the whole franchise. The most recent Bond film, "No Time To Die," marked the farewell of Daniel Craig as the titular character, and brought on sadgirl pop sensation Billie Eilish to perform the titular track. Eilish's eponymous theme nabbed her a Grammy, Golden Globe, and an Academy Award, allowing the final three Daniel Craig Bond films an Oscar hat trick for "Best Original Song."
As it turns out, Eilish almost didn't get the Bond gig, as musician and "Game of Thrones...

Selma Blair performed blindfolded on Dancing with the Stars to help with the “sensory overload” caused by her multiple sclerosis.
The Cruel Intentions star was diagnosed with the chronic condition, which affects the brain and spinal cord and can lead to symptoms including problems with vision, muscle spasms and fatigue, in 2018.
Due to her mobility being impaired, Blair often walks with a cane for support.
The 50-year-old is currently competing on DWTS and, during Monday (3 October) night’s episode of the US dance competition, performed a Rumba to “For Your Eyes Only” by Sheena Easton.
However, for the majority of the performance, Blair was completely blindfolded.
Her dance partner Sasha Farber explained that the blindfold should help the actor handle her Ms, which often leaves her with sensory overload, as well as improve the trust between the Legally Blonde actor and Farber.

“Dancing with the Stars” will get shaken, not stirred, when it celebrates Bond Night on Monday’s episode.
To mark the 60th anniversary of the release of the first James Bond film, “Dr. No,” the top 14 will perform to Bond theme songs on Week 3. But you won’t hear one notable tune: Adele‘s “Skyfall” from the 2012 film of the same name and the first Bond theme to win the Best Original Song Oscar. The subsequent two Oscar-winning themes, Sam Smith‘s “Writing on the Wall” from 2015’s “Spectre” and Billie Eilish‘s title track to last year’s “No Time to Die,” will be represented on the show.
And with the moody nature of most of the tracks, you will not be shocked to learn that there will be lots of rumbas — eight of them, to be exact. Definitely a missed opportunity not to make it 007.

Exclusive: Having rallied in recent months against censorship-advocating Republican politicians and the loss of abortion rights in America, Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider is going back to the past to spotlight our potential future.
The heavy metal lead singer has teamed with Magilla Entertainment for a documentary series about the efforts of Tipper Gore and the Parents Music Resource Center 37 years ago to excise so-called obscene music. Confounding all expectations, Snider appeared with Frank Zappa and John Denver before a Senate committee in 1985 and proved a compelling and insightful advocate for freedom of expression and creative license.
“To be in the crosshairs of this bipartisan attack on free speech caught me completely off guard,” Snider told Deadline. “All of my rock and roll dreams were finally coming true, and the Pmrc was trying to shut me up,” the “We’re Not Gonna Take It” singer added of the heyday of hair metal.

As Boromir might have said in some deeply unorthodox, parallel universe adaptation of Lord of the Rings: One does not simply walk into a Bond movie. For most artists, recording a signature song for a feature film is a task performed once the contract is signed. Not so on Bond, with its long history of iconic musical credit sequences. On a Bond movie, artists line up for a shot at winning the gig, writing and recording songs on spec in the hopes they’ll get picked.
No lesser musician than Johnny Cash, for instance, recorded a song for Thunderball, which was nixed in favor of Tom Jones, who also beat Dionne Warwick to the gig. Alice Cooper’s “The Man with the Golden Gun” lost out to Lulu’s song of the same name. Blondie had to step aside for Sheena Easton on For Your Eyes Only. The Pet Shop Boys,...

When it premiered in cinemas on June 24, 1981, the James Bond thriller “For Your Eyes Only” was notable for two main reasons. First, it was the grittiest and most realistic Bond adventure since “From Russia with Love” almost two decades earlier. And second, it instantly established an iconic new theme song that was embraced by fans as one of the best in the blockbuster spy series’ history.

The line, from the 1984 original movie, was a contrite explanation for his impulsive decision to choose the now-iconic, pillowy “destroyer” form of ancient evil entity Gozer for its attack on the Big Apple. Now, the 32-years-awaited follow-up to the franchise’s original iteration is bringing back Mr. Stay Puft—miniaturized and multiplied. Thusly, speculation on Gozer’s prospective return is potent.

Kenny Rogers always knew when to hold them, when to fold them, when to walk away, when to run. The beloved country-pop stud died Friday night at 81, after a career full of hits that defined his silver-fox mystique. Kenny was barely north of 40 when he sang his signature song, “The Gambler” in 1978, but he came on like a grizzled old sage who’d seen it all. His hits were full of sensually growled wisdom: walk away from trouble when you can, don’t fall in love with a dreamer, never...

Kenny Rogers, whose music went beyond the country music genre he is known for, died at home in Sandy Springs, Ga., Friday night, according to the New York Times. He was 81.
“The Rogers family is sad to announce that Kenny Rogers passed away last night at 10:25Pm at the age of 81,” his family said in a statement to Twitter. “Rogers passed away peacefully at home from natural causes under the care of hospice and surrounded by his family.”
Rogers was known for duets like his chart-topping pairing with Dolly Parton, “Islands in the Stream,” and crossover hits like “Coward of the County,” “Lucille,” “Lady,” and his signature song, “The Gambler.” But the Country Music Hall of Famer went through all genres in his musical journey, from playing upright bass in a jazz band, through subtle Vietnam War commentary with his cover of Mel Tillis’ song “Ruby” to psychedelic swing...

There are few more transcendent in pop culture than the late, great Prince. Not only was he a master performer, songwriter, singer and guitar player, he was also a massive music fan who lent his genius to all genres, including country. He often enjoyed working under a pseudonym: Prince had many in his too-short life, from “Jamie Starr” to “Camille” to “Alexander Nevermind” and, of course, the infamous symbol once entirely substituted for his name.

Many artists put their stamp on Prince songs, but nothing compares to the Originals.
Prince had an ear for talent and an overactive imagination no single record label or artist could contain. He is known for iconic songs, which feed into the legend of his artistic mastery. Any one of his hits could have defined another artist for their musical life. Prince wrote songs which defined, refined, and redefined other artists as well. Prince wrote the 1984 hit “I Feel for You” which marked the next step in the evolution of Chaka Khan. Sheila E.'s renditions of “A Love Bizarre” and “The Glamorous Life” earned her a lifelong place in Ringo's All-Starr Band. He broke through "Sugar Walls" to reinvent Sheena Easton after the nine to five girl clocked out. All those songs were originally recorded by the artist himself and the Prince estate, in partnership with Warner Bros. Records and Tidal,...

In the all-new eighth episode of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” on April 18, the eight queens still competing on season 11 were given the chance to compete in a nautical-themed version of the legendary Snatch Game. “Veep” co-stars Tony Hale and Clea DuVall were the guest judges of their endeavors. Which contestant came out on top and was chosen as winner of episode 8 of season 11? And were Gold Derby’s predictions correct that A’Keria C. Davenport would be eliminated this week?
In episode 7, A’Keria came perilously close to being bounced but Ra’Jah O’Hara went home instead. Both had to strut their stuff to the Sheena Easton classic “Strut.” Texas toe-tapper Ra’Jah counted some missteps among her moves. In the end, RuPaul Charles opted to throw a lifeline to Dallas darling A’Keria.

On the seventh episode of season 11 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” Ra’Jah O’Hara was eliminated. Vote in our poll below and be sure to sound off in the comments section with your thoughts on episode 7, “From Farm to Runway,”which aired April 11 on VH1.
A’Keria and Ra’Jah, who both hail from Dallas, ended up in the bottom two after failing to impress RuPaul Charles and the two guest judges — Grammy-winning singer Kandi Burruss and supermodel Amber Valletta — throughout the seventh series of competitions. The queens got extremely catty — and a little bit corny — on Thursday’s episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race, which began with some good ol’ fashioned boobography. (Speaking of which, we’d like to preemptively thank Ru for providing us with an addition to our 2019 TV Dictionary.)
This week’s mini challenge gave the remaining nine queens 20 minutes to strap on some quick “bodacious drag” for one of the franchise’s classiest events to date: a “slow-mo, jugs-a-jiggling” potato sack race in which speed didn’t matter quite as much as… bounce. This article marks Part 16 of the Gold Derby series analyzing 84 years of Best Original Song at the Oscars. Join us as we look back at the timeless tunes recognized in this category, the results of each race and the overall rankings of the winners.

“People Alone” from “The Competition”

“Out Here on My Own” from “Fame”
“On the Road Again” from “Honeysuckle Rose”
“9 to 5” from “9 to 5”

Throughout his film career, John Carpenter was always ahead of the curve; whether finalizing the blueprint for the modern slasher or offering an ever prescient political take on alien invasions, Carpenter always seemed to be ahead of what the next big thing would be, often to decreased box office receipts. So it came as a surprise to many (myself included) that he started up Body Bags (1993), a would-be anthology series ala Tales from the Crypt for Showtime. The bigger surprise though is that it didn’t fly, because this one off is terrific entertainment.
Originally televised on Showtime on August 8th, Body Bags was met with critical approval and fans of the genre enjoyed it. However, the brass had already decided that this would be a one and done, hence the truncated anthology film format for the three segments already filmed. What a shame, because while Carpenter in front of...

A review of the Mr. Robot season 2 finale coming up just as soon as I go find my manual... "Ready to look at what we accomplished?" -Wellick In my review of the first half of "Python," I suggested the episode might have played better had the whole finale aired on the same night, because the first hour was all teases (plus that surreal interview with Angela and the little girl) for revelations that were presumably coming in the season's concluding installment. "Python, Part 2" did, in fact, reveal several things: That Darlene survived the Dark Army's assassination attempt (but Cisco did not), that Dom has apparently known for quite some time that Elliot was the true mastermind of the 5/9 hack, that Scott from Evil Corp has been the one sending Joanna all the gifts and messages, that Wellick is really still alive and not just another personality inside Elliot's fractured mind,...

With Prince's shocking death, the monumental scope of his influence on music is just starting to become clear. The rock, funk and R&B icon has inspired dozens of today's award-winning artists and has crafted numerous albums that ended up greatly reshaping our current musical landscape. He is not just Prince; he is a king. And unlike some royalty, Prince loved to share his wealth, writing numerous songs for his fellow artists and allowing his music to be covered by other performers as well. Some of Prince's successful pieces may surprise you, especially since he doesn't sing a word on the tracks.
